I get up to the counter he goes 23.92 . I was like but that just does not add up . I said you said they were this much . He states yeah my bad they are 2.75. What ?? Such a disappointing experience today... went to the new Lenox store to order a small tiered cake and iced cookies for a bridal shower... was told I could not order tiered cakes at that location.. had to go to Mokena.... Drove to that store yo be told they are not taking orders... even 3+ weeks away... not even small ones... they don't have the help... I could see if it were a shorter time but 3 weeks.. and I had to drive to the second store to be told no orders.. the first store should of told me and or should be on their website... I get no help.. I guess... but more communication would be nice.. who would of thought I had to call ahead and specifically ask that question.., I needed to do in person to bring on the invitation to match colors.... It was my sister's birthday last month and this is one of her favorite bakeries, so it's only fitting I got her cake here. I got a vanilla cake with buttercream filling and whipped topping. The cake was delicious. Everyone in my family loved it. The staff here is also very courteous and professional. When I went to go pick up the cake, I also tried the red velvet cupcake. I was on the hunt for a delicious king cake in Illinois and Fleckenstein's did not disappoint! I chose their traditional style cinnamon king cake and it was a light sweet bread with a nice amount of cinnamon flavor. Reminiscent of a cinnamon roll, but with the customary king cake sugar crunch. Delicious and highly recommended! I also sampled four different flavors of their cupcakes and they were all delicious. My favorites were the German chocolate cupcake and the turtle cupcake. I also enjoyed their decorated sugar cookie. It was my first visit, but I will definitely be back! I am adding an update to this review: I made it to four bakeries in Illinois for king cake this year and Fleckenstein's king cake was my favorite! You know you are visiting a scrumptious place when you see people sitting in their car eating their goodies. Yes! The items are so enticing you will want a bite before you get home. The line was long but moved impressively quick and smooth. The staff was helpful answering questions and recommending alternates for sold out items. We opted for the carrot cake birthday cake, cupcake samples, cookies, brownies, and kolaches. The only disappointing item was the mint brownies. I have never ordered a cake from here. I have the donuts and cup cakes and they are amazing. I drive pretty far to come here. The staff is always great. Sometimes funny. They make their stuff fresh. I've been there a couple times where they ran out of my favorite donut. That's ok though. At least they've never given me something old. I'm just impressed with this place. Owner was very rude towards us on when we told him we did not want fondant for our wedding cake and we wanted whip cream. He had us go though his sample pictures of the cakes and have us pick what we like and he will tell us if it's fondant or whip cream, the cake we picked was whip cream. He seem upset we didn't pick fondant. He kept pushing us on how his fondant is the best. My wedding was fall colors and when I got to my wedding I wanted to cry when I saw neon colors instead of fall colors. We have tried custard donuts, cookies, atomic cake and even had a custom cookie order filled when we were in the area for a few days. After getting pastries at Orland Park bakery, fleckinsteins could not come close to matching our expectations. Some issues we had. Donuts not filled very much with filling, cookies tasted stale. Selection small. The atomic cake was ok but nothing like Orland Park bakery or creative cakes in Tinley. I would have given 2 stars but customer service was ok and the prices were ok. read more

I constantly have issue with this business on overpromising and underdelivering and it ends up screwing up my plans for parties. This time, I had called and asked if a certain cupcake was made in a mini size and received confirmation that it was and when I called to place the order (3 days before the party) I was told that the owner said that they cannot do it. Purchased a dozen doughnuts for my cousin's graduation from here. It was about $14 bucks. Every penny was worth it. Doughnuts here were aaaammmazing. Fleckensteins is the best bakery in the area. We have recently found the specialty cupcakes a treat for birthdays instead of cake. There are many different flavors. A nice option is that you can preorder something if you want so you can be sure it doesn't sell out. Just walking in there and looking in the cases puts your sweet senses in overload! I want to taste everything. As a side note, we bought our wedding cake from Fleckensteins 23 years ago. Business was much smaller then but still great items. One of my favorite things about my birthday is that I get to celebrate it with a cake from Fleckenstein's! I switch it up from year to year, but I generally prefer a chocolate cake with either strawberries or chocolate in the middle. I always have the whip cream frosting. It is light and not too sweet. Perfection! Fleckenstein's also has superb cupcakes - mostly of the filled variety. The butter cookies are melt in your mouth delicious and if you get up early enough, make sure you get a donut. The chocolate with chocolate frosting is my number one. It seems impossible, but I do still have some menu items to try. They have every bakery item you could ever want all at reasonable prices. I am updating my review of Fleckenstein's because of how my life had changed and therefore my sugar fix is different here now. I am sure that their glazed donuts are still wonderful but I no longer leave for work between 6 and 6:45 am. This is a huge plus but I haven't seen one of their glazed donuts since I retired from teaching full time. That's OK, I think there should be a reward for early risers who work 5 days a week. That used to be me and sometimes the donuts were what got me out of the house in the morning. Lately, my obsession are their cupcakes. Yes, I know there are boutique cupcake places which are very cute and make delish $4.00 cupcakes. Fleckenstein's is more old school and they make amazing cupcakes for under $2.00. Yes, you read that right. I have brought them to football games. (Hey, cupcake tailgating is the way to go!) I have picked up a selection for when I bring dessert to parties and they are gone in a flash. They have filled ones and non filled ones and those are even cheaper. I recently had a new one there - apple pie with ice cream. It is a cinnamon cupcake with a bit of apple filling and a round ball of frosting which is very light and supposed to look like a scoop of ice cream. It was divine! I also adore their non filled Red Velvet with cream cheese frosting, we have had that for about 6 years in a row for my daughter's bday cake. This past Easter we only had cupcakes from Fleckenstein's for desserts. I bought millions of them and got cupcake boxes for people to bring home a cupcake as a sort of Easter basket. Enough about the cupcakes! They also have great wedding cakes, cookies and birthday cakes! Plus, the dinner rolls are melt in your mouth and make the best bread for a Sloppy Joe sandwich and are small enough so that you will demand seconds. In short, if you like sugar and like it baked into goodies, come here. I would show you the way but then I would be forced to buy more goodies and I have reached my quota for this month! read more

The boyfriend got a birthday cake for me last week and he was very pleased. He reports that they are very courteous and helpful, and he was also happy with the price for the size of the cake. They also personalized it (I don't know how much the cake was, but it certainly LOOKED expensive). I thought it was lovely-- chocolate layer cake with white buttercream frosting and sprinkles on the sides. The cake itself was really tasty, but the frosting was sort of meh. It seems that too often, to get the right consistency in frosting to work with it and have it be sturdy, it has to be grainy and kind of gross. So I've been eating just the cake parts and throwing the stiff chunks of frosting straight to the trash. Even so, I would order from them in the future. read more

Unfortunately for me you have to get to here early to get the best pickings of their freshly made bakery items. Specifically their-worth the groggy pre-sunrise trip to wait in line-donuts. The only time I see 5am is on my way home from the bar. Being in no shape to enter a bakery, although most likely craving cookies, I wouldn't do that to the people of Fleckenstein's. I remember as a kid being especially good on a Saturday night so my parents could get enough sleep and agree to get Fleckenstein's donuts for breakfast. Waking up to that blue and white box meant a good morning. You could savor them all day too. They stay fresher longer than Dunkin's so you don't have to eat them all when you open the box. If you want to impress the people in your office, get up a bit earlier, spend a few extra bucks and bring everyone a dozen of these puppies. You will be Employee of the Month in no time. I definitely agree with Patricia. If there was a rumor you were going to have Fleckenstein's cake at your birthday, you suddenly trumped the kid-with-the-pool in the grade school social scene. I recently went there to grab a dozen cookies for a gift.... er I mean 8 cookies... by the time I got to my destination.
