For $72.50, the cost was not worth it. We got beef nachos, salmon, and blue cheese bacon burger. The beef on my nachos was cold. Tomatoes, what tomatoes, they were maybe 2 cooked in tomatoes. It was awful. Couldn't get the chips apart to eat. Ate just a couple pieces of chips and was still charged for the meal. Salmon was at least edible for my son. They never came back after delivering our food to see if everything was okay or if we needed anything. Never came back to refill our drinks. Ordered 2 sodas and an ice tea. Will not return. Very disappointed today. Took my 2 daughters and granddaughter for lunch. They didn't tell us they were out of fries and gave us overcooked waffle fries, black on the outside fish and grey on the inside. One cheeseburger totally dry no sauce whatsoever ever, and if we did want a refill of anything the waitress couldn't get off her phone long enough to bring it to us. Met my friend here for lunch today, we go here about every month. We had the clam chowder soup bowl and Caesar salad. Very large portions of both and served with super personalized attention. I was intrigued by the decor and location of this place (at the airport right near the tarmac). The food is good too! We were greeted right away and could pick a table near the windows overlooking the runway. There are lots of options on the menu, I had a grilled turkey sandwich which was just right, crisp on the outside and soft and warm inside. Fries were also good. We went on a kind of rainy evening, so not a lot of planes taking off. Food was decent, and pretty fairly priced. Kind of a lowkey crowd, casual vibes. The bar area has high top tables and TVs for sports games. The dining room area isn't entirely private from the bar area, but enough so to block some of the noise and crowd. read more

Saw reviews on yelp and thought I would try out. This place was awesome, from the appetizers to the main dish and the wait staff was great. Sitting on the airfield and watching civilian and military aircraft come and go was an additional bonus to the great tasting food. I ordered the fried pickles to start and they were lightly battered almost like a tempura style. The Rueben was classically done and hit just the right spot. If I come back to Salem this place will be a must visit for me. read more

OK, before you read this, if you remember ANYTHING about what I'm about to say about this place, just do this. When you first go in, turn left right away and go down the hall into the too small, cramped, very old run down and dirty men's room, THAT should tell you right away the kind of place your in, when ANY restaurant cares this little about there restrooms it should speak VOLUMES to you about the food they make. The two of us came in around 7:30 Sunday night (11-3-19) and saying it was unpleasant would be a BIG understatement. The first thing wrong was the loud hillbilly music (it's called outlaw country, think Achy Breaky Heart and you'll understand) the 20's year-old "waitress" greeted us, but was WAY too loud and WAY over the top (on meth maybe?) she brought our drinks over and SLAMMED them on the table. We looked at each other and wondered what the hell was wrong with her. She, her speed freak movements and her "body art" were REALLY obnoxious. We ordered the fried chicken dinner. 4 pcs chicken, mashed potato, corn w/ biscuit. The corn was OK, just stuff right out of a big can. both the chicken and the MP's were underwhelming. The MP's tasted like instant, and the chicken was soggy and not crispy (fried at too low a temperature) with little flavor. I could not bring myself to eat it. Before the food came I wanted to go to the men's room to wash my hands before eating. and looking around you can see the disrepair, and how run down it is. I went to push the sope dispenser and it was out of sope, (ah, how nice) and had to ask a guy in the kitchen (over the load hillbilly music) if he could PLEASE refill the sope in the men's room. I just went to our table by the window (hands still wet) and sat down, wondering what else would go wrong. A young guy was walking past and I asked him if he was the manager, he said yes, and I asked him if he would PLEASE turn the hillbilly music down, turn it off, or change it to SOMETHING ELSE, well, he did. He changed it to 80's BUTT ROCK! I'm NOT kidding! Now just so you know we're not THAT old -mid-50s- but the fact that the "manager" was so clueless that he could not even understand that a set down dinner in such a place should have soft Jazz, classical or even really soft rock. We love rock, but not being 16, we don't want to ROCK OUT to AC/DC and Metallica when we set down to eat. In short, this place is in a nosedive, because the owners are NOT in the control tower, having turned over the flying too low rent hillbillies. Hubby and I have been in Salem for 9 years and never visited the Flight Deck...Salem is not known for having many good breakfast restaurants, sadly.....so first timers there about a month ago.. Of course, the glass wall overlooking the tiny airport is part of the experience. The service (Ashley H.) was very friendly and cheerful...we always appreciate the cheerfulness in breakfast dining...We had the chicken fried steak with eggs and hash browns. I recommend the LITE portion - it is gargantuan! But, for me the BISCUIT was over the moon....it's mini-loaf-bread-sized! and good! Hubby and I brought half of all of our plate home with enough for another breakfast...I told hubby to bring me biscuits from Flight Deck for my birthdays instead of cake...we will return - in better weather to sit on their outside deck.. read more

It's been a few years since their change up to Flight Deck and I'm pleased to see there are some changes worth noting since my last visit. The place has grown somewhat and the decor has changed for a more modern and contemporary setting. The patio has opened up a bit more for an interesting view of McNary Field. The service is still real good. Staff is always friendly and very honest about their recommendations. The food has been adjusted somewhat, with more standard American fare, than one's average pub food. Where as Roscoes felt more like a cafe, Flight Deck has done a good job in sporting a restaurant quality look, especially with their banquet rooms for bigger groups. I have only been here for breakfast and lunch, which has been a pretty solid. Burgers are juicy and sandwiches they have on their daily specials are worth considering. They claim their breakfast is the "best in town." While I don't know if I'd agree right away, I'd still come back for another go at their breakfast / brunch. Finally, the view is what makes this place what it is. Instead of parking a car outside of the field and watching planes take off, I'd prefer a window side seat here and doing it with some good food and a fun company. When it's drizzly as Oregon often is, I'd recommend dining indoors. read more

After seeing the reviews wanted to check this place out. First, the location is great. The floor to ceiling windows offer a great view of the airport. And on a sunny day it would be awesome. The food was fair at best. We came at their "change over" time between breakfast and lunch. This led to semi-warm food that was ok at best. Then there was the service. We must have had the same problem waitress that was described from other reviewers. She took our order then spent the rest of our time there laughing and flirting with the person behind us. She then left the restaurant for a time with him so someone else helped us. Overhearing the other waitress talking it sounds like this was typical. Still trying to convince the wife to go back on a clear day to give it a try. Hopefully that waitress will be gone by then. read more

This was actually a really delightful place to go. I was judging from the pictures and didn't think I would really enjoy my experience. I agreed to go because my Husband wanted to try it. The servings are huge, the food tastes good, and the staff there were very friendly! I wish I could remember my waitress' name so I could tell you all how awesome she was. The atmosphere matches what you see on their website. Pretty standard. The view is awesome. Clean casual wear is appropriate. We got to watch a couple of private planes park and come in for food, that was a treat for us. I had the mushroom ravioli and my husband had the shepherds pie. Both were yummy. The Flight Deck is solid, they have a good theme that really takes life when you see the planes take off in front of you eating your meal. The view sure does make this place one of a kind The food isn't anything very special, it's good, not amazing but not bad either. The interior isn't anything crazy cool, it's decent and clean and at night it can be a cozy place to have a cup of hot cocoa. I wouldn't have even known it existed if my parents didn't take me, which could be a reason why I haven't seen it get very busy. But I have returned since then and plan to again! The view of the runway is gorgeous on a gloomy evening yet enchanting. We seated ourselves and the waitress Victoria stole the show with her wonderful customer service. She made my family feel comfortable and won my boys over with their whipped cream topped hot cocoa. I know we'll be back and I didn't even get my food yet. We ordered an array of food. Nachos, Onion rings, a Club sandwich, steak and pork chops! Update: Food as great and we got carried away with appetizers! My boys and I had the bacon cheeseburgers and they did it justice with the Bacon! Best Pancakes in Oregon. If that's not enough...the servers are always smart, fast and funny. Pancakes made by a chef. Taste perfect with enough vanilla that you can actually taste it. Cooked nice golden color but still fully hot and perfect all the way through. Most places have the griddle up way too hot to cook faster. That works for meat or eggs or potatoes. But not for pancakes. You can't simply make a cake bake faster by cooking at 500 degrees instead of 350. Tried to have Sunday dinner and got ran off. We got there at 8 pm and they're supposed to be open until 9 pm. As we walk in, the cook points a finger at us like he's shooting a gun. Then the bartender says "I'll be right with you" as he proceeds to clean all the tables. He finally comes by and says they're closing in 20 minutes - so bye, bye. After being loyal customers for all the time Barry and Natalie owned the restaurant we were shocked by the behavior of the new owners staff. Needless to say, never going back. read more
