From the dinner menu, we ordered the wild boar with polenta, and the bison rib eye. we chose the bison ($55) as opposed to the regular rib eye($43) since we were told regular rib eye is fattier, but the bison also had chunks of fat. FlintCreek staff are helpful and nice, and the food tries to be inspired and good tasting. Several things we had were good. Cocktails were nice. However, never order the duck. Why this is 3 stars is the duck should have utterly embarrassed those responsible, and no staff along the way (cook, deliverer, server) should have approved putting this dish in front of me. It was obviously over cooked and burnt and shriveled, and was dry and bad consistent with its appearance. I did not send it back because it was edible, and I hate wasting food; the point is everyone involved should have aborted delivery instead of challenging me to accept it (reusing the meat in their other duck dish). Also, after discussing dairy 3 times, they served a dish with dairy on it, which I could avoid carefully, but clearly there was a lack of attention to overall quality. If the price was half what I'd paid, I could see a higher rating, but at their price point and the risk of getting entrees like I had put it at 3 stars or middling experience. read more

Hello vegetarian, are you afraid of this place? You need not fear.. the mushroom bolognase is here! I kid you not. I end up at this steak house all the time (and yes, the steak is so good, as is the burger...but I'll talk about that in a moment) I crave this dish and need to have it at least once a month all winter long. My husband who is a sworn meat eater will also get this...granted he'll find meat in an appetizer instead but yes. he loves it too. My mom and her friends also gave it a go and they both nearly licked their plates clean it's that good! Also if you like pickled things, don't miss the pickled veggies in tahini blue cheese. So freakin' amazing! Now another key thing...happy hour. If you get there before they run out the burger with a beer back is a nice treat..it's cheap ($10 or so) for all of it. Came here with my boyfriend last night and the food and cocktails were incredible! Fun atmosphere, beautiful ceramic dinnerware. We will definitely be back! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is our server seemed visibly irritated and was a little unfriendly when she realized we weren't going to be ordering more. We ordered cocktails, a few appetizers, a main and a small plate, and she was pretty curt with us and insisted we change the small plate to a main. We said no problem, we ordered two mains and they were wonderful -- I'm actually glad she recommended it! Loved my experience here on a Friday evening. The service were friendly, accommodating, and efficient. They even made a dessert for one of our party who couldn't eat any of the offerings because of an allergy. The establishment is spacious and industrial, though it can be a noisy when a full house. The food is spectacular! The wild boar potato gnocchi was rich with each bite making me more and more sad that my experience was almost over. The duck confit was equally as mouth pleasing. It was perfectly cooked and rubbed with a subtle spice and herb mix. The duck leg sat on top picked vegetables and caramelized lentils which offered a nice complement to the flavors of the duck. The dish was beautiful and complex. The eggplant salad was also a hit. It leaned on a sesame dressing and the natural flavorings of the vegetables incorporated in the dish. Gorgeous space, undoubtedly with the structure of the building already having been beautiful when it housed an antique shop before the restaurant. Pleasant hostess and great waitress. Food...we had a bunch of their "favorites" including the boar gnocchi and a duck dish..My date commented that the regular chefs must be off tonight because the gnocchi was his fave dish and the pasta itself looked as if someone was too lazy to form the shape. Just large globs. The duck was like salty duck jerky. Dry and grossly over salted. I think we had the brussels or beets also but again, meh. I was trying to pretend like everything was tasty but the last straw came with the cheesecake. Cheesecake, ya know, creamy, guilty sensations with each bite...nope. This had the oddest consistency of steamed dry eggs. Zero delishness. We each had a bite and a half and stopped. Don't know how this place has high ratings. I never leave negative reviews but this was probably one of the worst places I've ever experienced. The small plates and starters were good-- got the mussels, eggplant, and pommes. However the main course was mediocre-- the medium rare steak was extremely chewy compared to how it's supposed to be. I've been to many steakhouses and this tasted like low quality meat. When we expressed our concerns, our server left abruptly without any explanation and it took awhile until the manager came to speak with us. They didn't apologize, but they did take it off our bill. There are plenty of better steakhouses out there. read more

Finally made it back here and it was just as good as I remember. Got a devil from tobago cocktail to start off and it was nice. Strong but reminiscent of a tiki drink. We got some of the seawolf bakery sourdough bread and the burrata with serrano ham. Delicious, I'm not a huge bread fan but it was really flavorful and the butter was fresh whipped. The burrata was amazing because of the nice pistachio and flavoring on it plus with Serrano ham. It also had some warm fresh cherries (depitted). The cherries were nice but didn't really add much for me. I think because they're warm I couldn't really taste anything unique from it. For the main I got the pork chop again. It is definitely the best pork chop I've ever had. It's so tender and delicious and filling. The cabbage with was nice too, small bite sized pieces to go with the grits and red eye gravy. Friend got the scallops with corn salad which also tasted very fresh! I wish there was a bit more flavor/gravy with it though and it still didn't beat the pork chop for me. read more

I had been trying to get to this gem for a bit, and it was worth the wait. After an unsuccessful attempt to get reservations at the last minute, decided to just drop by right at opening and see if anything was open. The hostess was very sweet and tried to accommodate us for a table but advised that due to heavy booking we would only be able to keep it for 1.5 hours. We love to enjoy the experience so we opted out and grabbed a couple of seats at the bar. This place gets busy FAST. Like crazy fast. Most places you can show up around 5:30 or 6 and have a good shot at a seat. We were here at about 4:45 and it was already buzzing, by 5:15 it was jammed! This is one time that the hype lives up to the experience. Bar staff was really great! Friendly, didn't have any problems speaking with us and were answering questions for diners around us. Approachable and efficient. Cocktails are well thought out, really high quality and what you would expect in a better cocktail house. Had a variety of cocktails all of which were great. You could pick any drink on the menu and be pleased! The Food: Of course the rage in dining, small plates and sharable large plates abound. The offerings are "meat-centric"....not necessarily beef but a variety of proteins/game meat, and that pleases me greatly!! Anderson Ranch Lamb Tartare, cured lemon, rose petal harissa, radish, herbs, flat bread, dukkah spice - This alone is worth the trip! I am a fanatic for tartare of all kinds and this was a hit! Treated and seasoned to perfection Warm Duck Confit, frisée, pickled de anjou pears, toasted hazelnuts, sherry gastrique - Normally it's tough to get excited about a salad...but I would eat this all day! Maui Nui Venison Loin "Buck & Brandy," peppercorn crust, parsnip purée, brandy-cranberry gastrique - This was the BIG winner! Really as close to perfection as they could have managed! The peppercorn crust was incredible and exactly what you would dream of....in combination with the brandy-cranberry gastrique it was simply amazing. It did not hurt that it was cooked perfectly and was fork tender! Pommes Dauphinoise, nutmeg cream, parmesan - Get it....thank me later. One of my favorite things when I can make it at home or find it on a menu....a must for the potato lover! I am not usually much of a dessert guy - but broke down and had the Brown Butter Bourbon Pudding.....haysoos cristo.....good! Overall this place is doing it right. Let's start with the good, excellent service, great drinks, the appetizer and sides were innovative and delicious. Halibut was ok but definitely overcooked. The main reason for the 3 stars is the horrible tasting tomahawk. This is the worst $155 steak we've tasted. For a place that prides itself to serve steak, it tasted awful. Simply amazing. We used to live in this neighborhood and walked by this building hundreds of times when it was an antique shop. I always loved the look and feel of it and wished it was used to its full potential. Needless to say; I think it most definitely has. My husband booked a reservation for my birthday. It was busy even at 8pm (he was a little late on the booking haha). They were out of the wild boar with gnocchi (bummer!) but my husband had the bison with blue cheese and onion marmalade and I had the wild mushroom bolognese. Both were fantastic, and the bison was phenomenal. Tender, flavorful, and paired and balanced wonderfully with all the other components. We shared the Riot Act (akin to a Manhattan with a unique spin) and the Mango fireside chat. Both were tasty and well done. The dessert we spilt was the chocolate ganache cake. So decadent. We could have easily both ordered our own, but it was good that we shared it to save the calories! Wonderful staff and atmosphere. Table of 4 of which all members enjoyed their meals immensely. Will definitely put this one on regular rotation. The service & overall feel of the restaurant were spot on. The food was all terrific. Everyone ordered at least two dishes and I think every dish was licked clean. I particularly loved the eggplant (but I'm a vegetarian, so take that with a grain of salt). Speaking of which, I'm a vegetarian and was happy to see several enticing vegetarian dishes on the menu. The menu is definitely game heavy, but even those who aren't that into game found something to love. I'd previously been only for cocktails (3x now) which are well balanced and inventive. Great wine list and a surprisingly eclectic collection of apertifs as well. All in all a great addition to the neighborhood. One final note: I've had dessert here twice now and I have to say, I'll probably skip it in the future. The bourbon pudding was on the gritty side, and the accompanying tuille was weirdly greasy. The dessert menu is very chocolate heavy which isn't my cuppa. I tasted the banana split (large enough to share) and it didn't bowl me over, though others seemed to enjoy it. I really enjoyed the food! I went on a Monday and they were out of a lot of items, salmon, mussels, strip steak and the kefta - but they weren't my choices anyway! I had the Porkchop and it was delicious. The grits were a bit soupy (not Nawlin's style) but that was ok as the chop was rich. My dining companion had the filet - it was perfect. The au gratin cauliflower was really good and like the Baby Gem lettuce salad - a lot. Had fair priced wine and the wine list was good. Skipped the fancy Old Fashioned and just went for a Trace old fashioned (saved $2!). The only thing I hated were the hardwood seats. I had a stool and it was pretty small and extremely hard and uncomfortable. There is more stool seating than hard chair so if you're bring your older parents or are older - be aware. We ordered the Grilled Spring Asparagus, Lamb & Marjoram Sausage, McEwen & Sons Grits, Slow Braised Bison Short Rib, and the 12 oz. Meyers Ranch Ribeye. We also ordered a desert - which was a valrhona chocolate cake with peanut butter. All of the sides, my cocktail, and the desert could not have been better. The Sausage in melted raclette and the asparagus stood out as being really good. The wait staff was attentive and left nothing for want. I docked Flintcreek a star because the main was both members of my party's least favorite item that night. Considering the emphasis on the meat, I found it strange that it was my least favorite course. I may honestly consider such a matter more of a 3/5, but the other parts of the meal propped up Flintcreek considerably. I look forward to giving them another shot in the future. That would happen much sooner would the steak have come out even a little better. Enjoy your experience there and make sure to give the sides a shot. read more

I came here with my parents after making a reservation on Open Table. The food was certainly excellent & the service was great. We tried the squash with burrata and that was amazing. The cheesy grits with mushroom is pretty tasty also. We then ordered the skirt(strip? Can't remember) steak with the onion jam, it was also excellent. My only complaint is that they charge for bread. We had ordered the olives which came with olive oil & garlic.. PRIME bread dipping food, but no bread. However, our waiter hooked it up with some free bread, so can't complain too much. They also have a pretty strict corkage fee policy. You can only bring wine they don't already sell. So keep that in mind if you plan to BYOW. read more

Overall experience was good. Food was underwhelming. We had the prime 12oz New York and prime 8 oz filet. New York was decent, swimming in butter and salt to the point that was all you could taste. The filet was chewy and it took way more effort to cut than a filet should. Sides were decent, the pommes was great but the baby eggplant was over sauced which was overpowering. Bread and pickled veggies were good. Desserts were decent. Service was great, everyone was pleasant and the place has moderate ambiance. The upstairs where we were seated felt more like a cafe. I have been here twice and enjoyed both times - my most recent a bit less than the first (unfortunately). Flintcreek is a modern, hip restaurant in the normal Seattle style - it's dimly lit like all good steak houses, and has a okay selection of beer and mixed drinks (too many IPA's and not enough dark beers for my personal taste). I had the 12oz Rib eye and the au gratin Cauliflower this time, and enjoyed both - the rib eye was a bit over cooked (I ordered medium rare but it ended up more on the medium side - it was probably too thin of a cut of meat to get it properly medium rare) but still very good, and the cauliflower was cheesy and delicious. For dessert my friend and I both got the Banana Split, which was truly impressive - they caramelized the banana which I had never heard of before, but just really elevated the whole dish. I can't really describe good it was - it was like mixing a creme brule with a banana split and the result was amazing. My previous visit here I had the bone in ribeye, and did get it perfectly cooked medium rare - it was the most perfectly cooked steaks I've ever eaten - hence my slight disappointment. Next time I'm in Seattle I'll stop in again, and try out the bone in ribeye (and update the review!) read more

excited to come visit, we came on a super wet early evening. i grabbed a booth and settled in to wait for my dining partner. i tried, but couldn't hold out. i'm a fan of their montana mule and tried not to order a second one before my friend arrived. i did break down and have the sausage app, which was wonderful. i could have eaten that as an entrée. for entrees, i knew we were going short ribs and then we grabbed the boar and venison. the short rib was a big chunk and maybe a bit on the dry side, but still tasty. the boar was my friend's fave but i liked the venison. we sort of over did it on the ordering and had a bit to bring home. great leftovers! i'll have to come back and try some more goodness. read more

We went in as we kept driving past the business and the view from the street looks very enticing. Decided to try happy hour cocktails and happy hour food. We ordered two burgers some rib ends and potatoes. The potatoes were 10 bucks by the way... we ordered a medium and a medium well burger... we got medium and medium rare... oops. Took one bite and certainly got turned off by the undercooked meat. The rib ends were stringy... the potatoes fantastic... not 10 dollars fantastic but... great all the same. At this point we became invisible, not one ounce of service after leaving the undercooked burger... not an ounce... even had to finally stop a guy and ask for a bill... Maybe homophobia... maybe not... but hard to understand for certain awful service just the same... I will say that bartender was very impatient with ordering as well. The only decent interaction was the sweet young lady at the door. I do not understand why were treated this way but can assure you it will not happen again! I hate giving bad reviews but I've got to do it for these guys. The reason for the bad review isn't about the restaurant decor or the staff or the service. IT'S ABOUT THE FOOD. Yes, the food; the reason why you're going to a restaurant in the first place. Here's my beef with these guys (no pun intended).. If you insist on having the word "Cattle" in your name and having multiple steaks on your menu, ranging anywhere from $60 to $100 (only for the steak and not including the sides), then I'd hope you can cook and prepare a proper f@#$ing steak. By that I mean, the seasoning is right, the fat is properly trimmed, and most importantly the steak is cook to the right temperature. If I order a steak medium-rare and it comes to the table so purple and bloody that I can see the white fat lines in the steak, I send it back and still comes back AGAIN rare and bloody then there's something wrong with your method of cooking. Maybe investing in a meat thermometer and studying up on proper meat temperature is needed for the chefs. Now you may read this and say "meh, he's being too picky", but I promise you I am not. The steak was sent back 3 times (I kid you not) and at the end it was still rare and I mean rare. Maybe it was because it was thick cut of beef or perhaps the thermometer was broken that day, I don't know, but we ended up eating our side dishes and taking the meat home and cooking it ourselves. I am just so sick of these restaurants charging so much money for improper and sub-par cooking. It's all smokes and mirrors and the end you have to do the cooking yourself. Ridiculous. read more

Came for an early dinner on opening night (Monday 10/24) and I must say FlintCreek is off to a roaring start! We were a table of 4-- me, BFF-couple who live around the corner from 85&GW, and another foodie friend. I completely knocked over a glass of wine and a glass of water while wrestling to separate a slice of Columbia City seeded baguette from the rest of the loaf (their tables are fairly tight), and the staff were completely unphased and lovely. I was so embarrassed but we all convinced ourselves that we had managed to bless the restaurant on their opening night! In keeping with tradition, we all opted to order something different so we could sample as much as possible. We started by sharing a starter plate of "roasted fall figs, bacon lardon, belgian endive, shallots, banyuls vinaigrette, bleu d'auvergne" and the aforementioned slippery baguette. The salad with its bitter endive and touch of fig and bacon was the perfect astringent palate warmer to get our tastebuds zinging in anticipation of our mains! Around the table... - Small Plate: Lamb Tarter (Lopez Island lamb, cured lemon, rose petal harissa, radish, herbs, flat bread, dukkah spice) - Main: Wild Boar Shoulder (fennel braised boar, garlic, sage, fennel sugo, parmesan-potato gnocchi) - Main: Mad Hatcher Chicken (split roasted, fennel spice, sunchoke puree, fall chanterelles, kuri squash, sage) - Main: Wild Mushroom Bolognese (toasted pine nuts, sage, roasted tomatoes, sofrito, parmesan, pappardelle) Um.... YUM! Perfect fall flavors, comforting food done perfectly. The pastas were al dente.. with the right amount of springy-ness, the meats moist and flavorful, and the use of seasonings impeccable. In a tableful of stars, I was especially blown away by my lamb tarter-- quite possibly the best tartar I have ever had (and lord, I've had some good'uns) We finished with coffee and tea (for me, another winner-- verbena mint). Including a couple of glasses of wine each (plus the almost full one I spilled- ugh!!!), our final bill pre-tip came to ~$53 per person which I thought was COMPLETELY reasonable given the amount of food and bevvies consumed ~and~ the quality of everything. This totally lived up to my expectations after long awaiting this opening. Based on my dining experience (even on Day 1 which is typically chaotic!), I am happy to report that I continue to be a H-U-G-E fan of Chef Donnelly and am now convinced there is nothing this guy can't do in the food arena. My wife and daughter are vegetarian, and options were plentiful, diverse, and delicious. The mushroom bolognese was a favorite for them. I had the duck confit frissee - great mix of flavors, especially the pickled pears. The standout for me was the Maui Nui Venison with cranberries and pureed parsnips.
