I had wanted to try a float spa for a long time and after researching float spas in San Diego, I decided on Float North County. I booked on-line in advance. The facility is easy to find, located in a corner of a strip mall in Solana Beach, just east of the I-5 off Lomas Santa Fe Dr. I recommend you give it a try! ~Spotlessly clean facility. ~Friendly employee on the desk who was very clear and informative with instructions and tour of the facility. ~Plenty of free parking right outside. ~Check-in and then wait in the waiting room where there are chairs, a water cooler, a salt lamp, tissues, and membership information. Note: Bring your own water if you want some with you in the float room. ~Large quality bath size towel and washcloth provided. I would have liked a hand-towel in addition for my hair. You could always bring your own extra towel. ~There are about 4 float rooms/tanks, plus a couple of infrared saunas. We used the couples float tank which was located in a low-lit closed room which you can lock. There are robes on the back of the door which you can use if you happen to need to go to the restroom in the middle of your float. (Restroom is just down the hall--definitely used it before the float). Also in the room is a bench with hooks for your clothes and bags. There's a basket for your used towels, a trash can for your used ear-plugs and a shelf which has on it a box of tissues, a jar of ear-cleaning buds, packets of earplugs, sachets of petroleum jelly for any cuts you might have, hand sanitizer and vinegar/water solution to help with any salt water that might have seeped into your ears. There is also a shower in the room with nice quality shampoo, conditioner and shower gel for showering before and after your float. ~Malleable ear-plugs provided -- my advice is USE THEM! We didn't use them at first and had to get out of the tank after a few minutes when we found water was getting in our ears. Three days later, our ears were still crackling from the salt water, so we used a 50/50% water and white vinegar solution to relieve it. They do provide a solution of this at the spa, but we didn't use enough. The earplugs also help with the music, which I found too loud. I didn't want to turn the music off completely, but I couldn't seem to turn it down either. ~They also provide a foam 'halo' to rest your head on. I would recommend you use these! Again, we didn't use them at first, but grabbed them after a few minutes. My husband found his neck and shoulders were a little tense throughout the float, but it helped if he put his hands behind his head, 'hammock style'. I put my arms down by my sides. ~It took us about 15 minutes or so to really settle down by the time we got the earplugs, the foam halo and we both got salt in our eyes for which we had to get out and rinse our eyes under the shower. This is all the result of being first-time floaters and we would know better next time! ~Our float tank had a ceiling of twinkly stars and low blue mood lighting which you could turn off. Afterwards the employee told us it's good to try it with the lights and music completely off to really relax the senses. ~When the float is finished (after 75 mins), a gentle 'gong sound' plays. You then exit the tank, shower and get dressed. One note, it's a little hard to dry off as the room is very humid. I would recommend wearing flip-flops and minimal clothing for ease of changing. We wore swimsuits in the float. ~Down the hall is a room you can use afterwards to dry your hair and touch-up make-up, etc. They have a hair dryer and complimentary quality toiletries like hairspray, spray conditioner, etc. There's also a sink, large mirror, a close-up mirror, ear-cleaning buds and combs, etc. It was a very unique experience, that I'm glad we've tried. For us, we both found it difficult relaxing completely, but maybe that's just due to our personalities! I found I couldn't switch off my brain and kept worrying about how long we had left. Maybe a second-time around we would know what to expect and it would be easier to get into. The employee also recommended that instead of a couples tank, a single-person tank is more relaxing. I would also try turning off the lights and music in the future. Either way, the facility was quite busy with patrons coming and going while we were there. They offer memberships and packages with the infrared saunas. I highly recommend you give floating a try at Float North County!

As someone who's floated in many floatation tanks, in many spas, I can happily say that North County Float has been my best experience to date. Tucked away in an outdoor mall (that plays Christmas music in the parking lot), North County Float isn't much to look at from the outside. Once inside the space, it becomes much more inviting. The entry/lobby area is somewhat small (compared to other spas), but cozy, and it begins to set the mood for what you'll find down the main darkened hallway. The lobby is also home to two Clearlight infrared saunas, a great addition to any float spa. The real experience begins once you pass thru the lobby area and into the back hallway. Like most spas, it's a quiet space with gentle music playing, but they take it up a notch with a main hallway that gives you the feel of being underwater. The flowing blues on the walls and doorways starts the relaxing that the float tank will continue. There are several private rooms, each with private rain showers, changing benches, complimentary robes and all the showering necessities. The rooms are bathed in a relaxing blue hue and the floors have just enuf texture to make you feel secure walking in wet, bare feet. The floatation tanks are just that, tanks, not pods like so many other float spas offer. North County gives you a full size cabin-like enclosure with matching lighting to keep the mood consistent. There are simple controls inside each tank space for lights and music if you prefer. There is also an indoor ceiling of twinkling lights, think night sky. You can play your own music as well via the bluetooth controls, but the best way to experience a float is in silence with the lights out and your eyes closed. As your body floats effortlessly in a foot of heavy salted water, you can loose the feeling of even having a body as you drift into higher dimensions. The tank is large enuf for you to stretch out without ever touching the sides, which makes the experience even more surreal. My float started with a 30 minute infrared sauna which warmed me up for 90 minutes in the float tank. Even the gong sound used to let you know your time is up is zen. I left North County Float in a relaxed, super smooth skin, state of bliss. Everything about this spa, from all the employees who helped me, to the vibe they've created to the equipment they use was first class. The only thing I might have changed would be the music played in the parking lot, although I'm pretty sure that didn't come from North County Float. Highly recommended.

The tank provides "sensory deprivation" which, as a trauma survivor, this was the best emotional release for suppressed trauma. I experienced many emotions in the tank but I recommend going with the flow, literally.

I can not say enough how float is more than a float. It brings healing, calm, and clarity. The staff are kind, helpful, and professional. The establishment and baths are clean and they are Covid safe! Each room is a bit different and helps you step into where "you need".

I have told so many people about this place that it's high time I wrote a review. I've been coming to Float North County approximately once a month ever since November 2016 to de-stress and rejuvenate. (Gee, I wonder what could have happened in November '16 that would cause me to feel stressed??) I didn't know quite what to expect at first, but now I know that for me a floating session is like a central nervous system reset. Although there are physical benefits, to me, the best thing is that if I've gotten cranked up for whatever reason, afterwards I feel like I've been taken down about five notches on my anxiety scale and I sleep so much better afterwards. I eventually got a membership so I bank a session every month. Then if I know I'm going into a stressful time (e.g. a week of taking care of my dad after he had surgery) I book a float as soon as I can and it helps me to get through it. The people who run the place are super nice and chill, and I look forward to going every time. Just try it and see for yourself. read more

The staff were super chill (Not surprised bc they get to freaken float for free i assume) but anyways this was my first time float and i had so much expectations going into it. By far probably the most relaxed i ever felt. I actually visualized myself somewhere in an island paradise and was actually hearing crickets. Floating has health and relaxation benefits. After my float I felt energized, well pampered, and at ease. Floating could be described as getting in a super-sized salt bathtub and relaxing for 1 hour. After about 40 minutes into my float, I turned on the light, and went from pitch dark to a blue light. It was a completely different experience. Floating is something everyone should try at least once in their lifetime. read more

I love Float North County! I started doing floats last year and felt a lot of benefit in improving my sleep especially. When I came to North County, the longer float time (90 mins) instead of 60 and the Ocean rooms were an amazing combination. It's hard to go anywhere else now! I received my first float as a gift. I was stressed and finding it hard to focus. At first, I was a little worried about how I would react to floating in a small room in the dark for 90 minutes, but after settling in and relaxing, I found the experience to be very peaceful. The lights and music turned on before I knew it. I came out of my float with a better attitude and feeling revitalized. The staff is super friendly and made me feel very comfortable. I highly recommend this experience and Float North County for anyone who wants to de-stress and unwind. read more

I have not done the float yet. That is tomorrow, so I will update review. Today I just did the 30 mins far-infrared sauna. I was very grateful that there is an infrared sauna near me for healing. I am very familiar with infrared saunas and their benefits. However, my criticisms were: first I am very sensitive to noise. I do not want to wear music nor listen to theirs. I want utter silence. They only have 1 far infrared sauna so I couldn't move and it is right next to the reception desk and waiting room. So I could hear phone calls, customer and worker conversations. So I would come back but for sure wear ear plugs. Second, it is a small infrared sauna made for one person, so you cannot lie down. I came to use the sauna, due to injuries, so being comfortable is key. And I was NOT comfortable. There is another float off Miramesa called Float Spa San Diego and their far infrared sauna is a 6 person size, though still for one person, so you can lie down. I will try theirs. Third, there is no shower after. So you walk out of there still sweating for the next 30 mins. Float Spa San Diego off Miramar, allows you a shower. I am still grateful for Float North County's infrared sauna and look forward to my 90 min float tomorrow. I have done isolation and vipassana and know the immense benefits. x read more

Don't think about this anymore...GO! Floating helps me to drop into a physically relaxed and meditative state very quickly. I love that I can leave the "world" behind while I am floating. Almost just like the place I go to in LA. This place is great, easy parking and most important very clean. Has everything needed for your float, you don't have to bring anything. Some differences I noticed from the other place I go. 10min for music at the start compared to 5 (I don't know if that's a good or bad thing) and the lights don't turn on automatically when the music starts (again don't know if it's good or bad and makes little difference) read more

Quick Update: The second float was even better than the first. It seems that they get better and better with each time. I would highly recommend giving this a try if you need some peace and grounding in your life. A safer alternative to other physical modalities and a unique experience not to be passed up! Totally stellar experience from finish to end. This was my first float and staff prepped me adequately. You get your own little bathroom/changing room equipped with linens, ear-plugs, chair/etc. I was a little tight/nervous when I first got in there, but ambient music helped me relax and after 10 minutes or so, I was in a complete state of relaxation. After the music shut off, I became aware of the total silence/stillness and totally zoned out. To experience my body in its weightless state is a truly unique experience. I found myself during and after the experience thinking thoughts like, "Oh, I didn't know my body enjoyed that position," or "Okay, my mind just went THERE." Next day, I'm pain free, no water in the ears, and ready for my next round. Huge addition to the North County community! read more

I loved my float experience! I felt safe in the tank and secure in the surroundings. The environment was calm, friendly and relaxing from the moment I entered. The owner who greeted me was friendly, professional and informative . Really put any concerns at rest and I felt well prepared for my new experience . The decor was fresh and everything was nicely clean. I have been back 2 more times and my last float was a 2 hour one ! I highly recommend trying to be in as long as you can and be open to longer , for me it has been beneficial towards healing and calming my squirrelly mind ! Definitely a spot to check out if you are a floater - and if you aren't floating yet, why not??? This place is very clean and organized and the owner Glenn is really cool - he runs the place professionally and their website makes it easy to purchase and book floats. I really like that their floats are 90 minutes - I feel like that gives you more time in "the zone" and lets you really deepen your meditation and relaxation experience. They just added some infrared saunas but one thing that is really neat is their Lucia Light Experience - you have to combine this with a float! This thing is a trip - you sit or lay in front of the light and close your eyes and it thrusts you into interstellar overdrive. I like to do that for 30 minutes and then go right into the tank - you are already so relaxed after the hypnagogic light experience that you can slip right into a zen state as soon as you step into the tank. Prices are reasonable for all services and I'm really glad I found them - you will be too! read more

I went one time on a date night with my husband. It was a cool experience, but I definitely agree that you either need longer than an hour the first time or will need to go multiple times to get the full experience. I'm open to trying it again to give it a fair review. read more

Took my first FLOAT yesterday. Was highly recommended to me to settle my mind and to help w/relaxation/sleep. The facility is very clean and staff welcoming. Had purchased a 90min FLOAT off FB. I used the Pod this time but will try a room as well. I went in, showered, got in the tank and floated! Lights wouldn't go off so I ignored them and tried to get my wacky mind to settle which I feel like took forever. After 30 (I assume) minutes of floating, I reached for the lights once more and got them off and within 10 (I assume) minutes I was half in/half out of sleep and my mind actually stopped racing and settled into a rhythm of thoughts of breathing, floating, etc until I fell asleep. Was woken by soft music at my times' end which came way too soon. I'm going to purchase the 4 for 3 float package and give it a solid try. I truly enjoyed the experience once my brain lets me settle in. **Recommendations** Use the wax plugs and really clean out your ears w/the solution available. I just rinsed in the shower and have swimmers ear. I'll take care of it w/50/50 water/peroxide but I could have prevented it. I did not use the head float donut. Thanks FLOAT. read more

Another year of floating has made life even sweeter. My two+ hours in the float tank each week are the highlight of the week. Everything has changed from regular weekly floating. I cannot recommend it enough. If you want to unwind, relax, settle into yourself, find inner and outer tranquility FLOATING is the answer. FloatNC is by far the best Float center I have found and I always find a float center whenever we travel. Do your body, mind and Soul a favor and give this to yourself. Don't procrastinate. You will be happy you invested this time in yourself. read more

I had never heard of a float spa until my friend recently told me about it so I was curious and tried it. I had no idea what to expect. It turned out to be one of the most relaxing things I have ever done and I will definitely be going back. I almost felt more relaxed than I have after an hour massage. I couldn't believe I was able to fall asleep in water for an hour. The water is skin temperature and there are no pressure points so you feel so comfortable and supported while you float. I didn't think I would actually be able to float but with all the Epsom salt in the water it allows you to stay buoyant. Float North County is a great place to go. It's very clean, quiet and the owner Glenn is extremely friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed the Ocean Float room with the lights on top that looked like stars. The tank allowed me to feel comfortable with enough space allowing me not to feel claustrophobic. I will definitely recommend this place to my friends and family and I will definitely be going back myself. It was a great experience! read more

What a groovy spot! I had been hesitant to try floating because of issues with claustrophobia, but the Ocean Rooms shown on their website looked like they would work for me so I gave it a try this afternoon. The owner Glenn is awesome - was totally supportive of a newbie like me. The place is very attractive and extremely clean - everything needed was supplied and there is total privacy. The float Itself was trippy and I don't know how to describe it - was unlike anything else I had ever experienced. I am normally quite stressed, and now I feel quite relaxed. I definitely want to float there more in the future and would highly recommend it! read more

I love this place! Glenn is so welcoming and guided me through my first ever float in the ocean room. When I went back I tried the pod. I did not notice much of a difference between the two since with the lights off it was completely dark and you couldn't tell how big the space was you were in. The place is clean and serene and I left feeling rejuvenated, grounded and healed. Get your float on! read more

My first float experience was a gift from my partner who is always looking for new and unique experiences that I can try out before he'll venture into them. Float North County was an awesome experience that I'd recommend to anyone with a desire to decompress from the busyness and craziness everyday living can bring. It was a surprise to me that even though I tend to be claustrophobic, I never felt uncomfortable in the float tank. You are completely in control of your environment: door open or closed, lights on or off, thinking mind or quiet mind, it's totally up to you. Floating in a semblance of zero gravity allowed my spine to decompress and muscles completely relax. I felt rejuvenated and focused afterwards. It makes a great gift, both to a loved one or yourself. I'm planning on returning to try the Lucia light before my next float. The facility itself couldn't be more pleasant. It's a soothing environment, very clean and each tank is in your own private area. I highly recommend Float North County! read more

We are known for our big, roomy float tanks as well as a clean and relaxing environment for a calm and relaxing float experience. Established in 2015.

Float North County opened it doors in March of 2015. The founders discovered floating in 2013 and realized quickly that because floating offers so much to so many people that there needed to be a clean, inviting, and comfortable Float Studio in North County, San Diego. We decided to get the best tanks on the market so we bought new large Ocean Float Rooms (7' tall x 8' long x 4.5' wide) and then added two very large Superior float tanks. We knew that people want to have the best float environment free from distractions. People really enjoy our tanks because they are roomy, quiet, sanitary, free from humidity and very comfortable.

You go into an individual pod filled with water super-saturated with epsom salt that's set to a temperature of 95 degrees which is equivalent to human skin temperature. The benefits of using these pods are for relaxation, reduction of pain and inflammation, and stress relief. Once you're in, you basically float in zero gravity. It's hard not to fall asleep because it's so relaxing haha! Customer service was excellent. The young lady helping us was friendly and efficient. It was very easy to book over the phone. You have to call them to get into and out of the parking garage but someone always picked up the phone. The pods were clean and the shower stocked with all essentials including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, and towel. Some tips: - come dressed in casual clothes and sandals so you can use in the shower and in and out of the pod - bring a brush to comb your hair after (they have a hair dryer there) - put in the moldable plugs before you go into the shower and pod to ensure they are tightly in Would definitely recommend everyone experience this at least once! They say to get meaningful benefit they recommend trying it at least 3 times.

I got into my float tank and something felt off. I got out mid-session and started looking around. What I found and documented with approximately 40 photographs was one of the most unsanitary commercial facilities I have ever seen in my life. There was visible black mold growing inside the float tank itself. On the lid seam. On the interior walls. On the door seal. This is the enclosed space that customers pay to lie inside and breathe recycled air for up to 90 minutes. The shower rooms had black mold covering the grout on every wall, every floor, and every corner. The ceiling panels had rust bleeding through them. The HVAC vent had visible mold and rust buildup on the filter screen, which means contaminated air is being actively circulated to every room in the building. The walls had paint blistering and bubbling off, which is what happens when moisture and mold are growing behind the wall surface, not just on it. When I contacted the business and requested a refund, they told me that what I photographed was not mold and was not dangerous. They refused to issue a refund. I have filed a formal complaint with the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health requesting an immediate inspection and suspension of operations until professional mold remediation is completed and the facility passes reinspection. I have also disputed the charge with my bank.

We opted for a 50 minute session and it was perfect for the both of us. For two people, including tax and tip it came out to about $117. Highly recommend this place!! Upon my last visit, I was informed of the new contrast service. I have never cold plunged before. I regularly utilize the cryo tank at least 4 times a year, so I thought why not? I was a little nervous, but the contrast room has the perfect aesthetic, and the combination of the dry sauna and cold plunge was AMAZING! The cold plunge is not for the faint at heart, but after researching the many benefits, well worth it! After my session, I immediately felt the differences. My body is still reaping the benefits well in 48 hours. I floated first, then did the contrast. For me, my dream recovery and refocus services for mind, body, and spirit! Great job, Float State! My only small disappointment, I miss the old staff and their genuine rapport and personalities. When I came in, they new my name and I felt like family. Now, I just feel like a number. No one is rude or unpleasant, their body language and conversation is just low effort. There are a couple of individuals I know by name, but the enthusiasm isn't the same. Like I said, this is relatively small and by no means takes away from the experience.

She was very friendly and took the time to clearly explain how to use the pod, which I appreciated. However, once I stepped inside, I noticed the bottom of the pod felt slimy. I tried to ignore it and continue with the session, but after closing the lid and looking around, I saw hair from other clients floating in the water along with various other particles. I'm not sure exactly what everything was, but it made it impossible for me to relax. Knowing I was floating in water that appeared unclean made me extremely uncomfortable, and I ended up getting out of the pod early. I was told the filters run frequently, but based on what I observed, I found it hard to believe they are working properly. Given this experience, I would not feel comfortable returning to use the pods again.

No surprises here - I agree with all of the other reviews on Float North County. Great facility, great management, great vibes. My experience was so positive that it caused me to sign up and submit my first Yelp review. I must caveat that this was only my second float, so I am certainly not a seasoned veteran, but my experience at Float North County was a big step up in comparison to my visit to another company in the Mira Mesa area. That trip to Mira Mesa, my first float, included a facility long overdue for a facelift and poor directions from the staff, so I was left wondering what to expect - including whether or not I would be signaled with music at the end of the session or whether or not the lighting for the room was hooked up to motion sensors. Float North County was a major upgrade: Glenn was extremely welcoming, provided comprehensive instructions, and answered all of my questions, all of which resulted in an enjoyable and relaxing experience. I certainly recommend the Ocean Room Tank. The size of the tank is likely less intimidating for newcomers and the room provides the user with everything they need. I walked out feeling rejuvenated and clear-headed and I look forward to my next experience. I plan to be back in the next few weeks to introduce a first-timer friend to the experience. read more

Float NC is an absolute gem if you are looking for gentle relaxation, mindful meditation, or in my case, relief from a severe injury. I look forward to 90 minutes of a pain free existence where I can withdraw into myself. It is here that I realized there was an eventual end to the lower back and leg pain that was plaguing me. The personal attention given by Glenn and Angelo was nothing less than top notch and genuine. I look forward to floating again..... I had heard so much about this place over the years, and was referred by a local Chiropractor. Well, I must say that I wish I had gone sooner. The place is clean and hospitable, and all inclusive. Just show up and set yourself free. I was skeptical concerning claustrophobia, yet within the first 10 minutes, that issue has fleeted and I was in the zone. I actually have fallen asleep while floating. (This is totally safe) . My experience over this last few months has done wonders for my condition, and I look forward to continuing my visits regularly. BTW.... Organic products in the private rooms. No detail goes unnoticed. next time I would like to try the Infrared spa. ACES! Floating was new to me and I could not have chosen a better place to experience the healing benefits of losing myself in pure epsom salts. Glenn is very helpful in explaining. I started in the Ocean Room and was happy to control the lights and have overhead space. As the floats continued, I found the eurphoria of being in the dark. Eventually, I tried the pod. Now I'm a true floater :) Glen suggested I try infrared sauna before floating, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Benefits for me have been: pain relief from aching muscles and joints (from Ashtanga yoga) as the epsom salts (magnesium) draw out the lactic acid, and stress relief. Floating is my new goto instead of professional massage or chiropractic. Now that I have moved away from the area, I've tried other float tanks. Float North County is a special place, more like a spa. I'll book a session every time I'm back for sure! read more

Floating at Float North County Spa is honestly the best high I have every known. Each floating experience is different and the more you do it, the more you "get it". My progress went from Floating 101a - The benefits of soaking in high concentrations of Epsom Salt... Nothing short of miraculous in how my body has healed and relieved me from aches, pains, and holding on to stress in my body. to Floating 401b - Deep Meditation and Spiritual Connection with your truth. The more you meditate the better and deeper your experience gets. Floating has taken me to the deep Theta state of meditation. What would have taken me years of dedicated practice to achieve, I have been able to achieve within a half dozen float sessions. Needless to say I am hooked...addicted! I floated once before years ago, but it was in a much smaller tank. At Float North County the tanks are much bigger which makes it easier to relax and not worry that you will hit the wall if you move. Bryan at the front desk was very informational and passionate about his work. He takes his time to explain everything to you and share advice and techniques that he or others have found helpful. If you are a first time floater and are not sure what it will be like, just give it a try. It is different for everyone, but is always a relaxing and meditative experience...at least for me. read more

If you have never tried this you absolutely should. I have a bulging disc with nerve damage. Floating takes away all he pain, especially if you go for 90 min sessions. Glen and Brian are great. This beats any massage. You come out like you've just went on the Most relaxing retreat ever. Without saying too much to ruin the experience just try.
