He scaled the difficulty level to see how my son and I were handling it and once he saw we were comfortable, turned it up a little. Boat was brought in to Ossipee Lake Marina for a summer tuneup before the start of the season. I…read morecalled to make sure it was ready to be picked up. I was told it was all set. When I arrived, everyone seemed to be on their lunch break and annoyed by the "interruption" of my visit. They quickly had me sign the receipt and sent me on my way with my boat. They failed to mention that they did not put the BATTERY back in the boat. (Not sure how they tested it after the tuneup if they never put the battery back in the boat). Anyway, it was not until the boat was off of the trailer, and sitting at the boat launch dock trying to turn the thing on (on a lake that was 30 minutes away from the Marina) that I noticed they failed to put the battery back in the boat. When a call was placed to ask that they rectify the situation, I was told that no one was available to bring the battery to us, and that we would have to come down and pick it up. The owner would not speak to me because he was too busy "showing a boat". Seeing that it was 4th of July weekend and one hour had already been wasted waiting for calls back from the marina, we pushed the battery-less boat back onto the trailer... a very aggravating inconvenience.... and headed down to the marina. The owner then called us back as we were en route and instead of starting off with an apology, he said that he wasn't going to listen to me yell at him. Not the best way to handle an aggravated customer before even giving them the chance to speak. He also told me that the paper work I signed said that the battery was still charging and I should have checked it before I drove off with the boat. SERIOUSLY??? I'm sorry, but please forgive me for assuming that when someone tells me the boat is "ready", it means that the battery is back in place and connected. He also was stupid enough to tell me that the battery in the boat was old and it was on its last leg. I told him that we had another problem, because I purchased the battery FROM HIM last year. When we arrived, the owner (who was visibly annoyed) walked us right over to our charging battery and pointed at it, saying nothing. I looked at him and said... "Yes?" He said "We don't sell this battery so you didn't purchase it here." This was VERY interesting to find out, seeing that I said "hello" to the gentleman (Tim) who had installed it for me last year at that marina. When I asked to see a copy of that receipt, (because there were clearly even more issues with his operation than I previously thought) he quickly said that all of last year's receipts were at home. So I'm still left here wondering whose "old battery" he sold to me last year, if they do not carry or sell the type that he put in my boat.

This mountain valley is a place of clouds hanging, so the view is kind of dramatic. East peak was in the clouds and I couldn't see the view, but when I was there in winter there was a view (East peak itself doesn't have a view but there is a view point a bit beyond the summit).

Heave, ho and hoist! What a climb! Ascending Osceola (and East Osceola) via the Osceola Trail was…read morea moderate climb. Most peak-baggers choose to snatch up both Osceola's main peak (4,315 feet) as well as nearby East Osceola (4,156 feet); though you can approach from either the South or the East, I would recommend the Southern trail head off of Tripoli Rd as your base (roundtrip distance: 7.4 miles); 3$ to park at the base. The lower half of the trail was rocky (though I found this quaint on my way up, loose footing on the descent was rather frustrating) and several spots where the trail runs over large slabs of diagonal stone. About 3/4 of the way up to peak 1 there are fantastic views of Mt Tecumseh to the South (a serious temptation and a fabulous motivator to continue on up up UP!). The view from the top is phenomenal; the slab spreads out and reveals the valley far below - the morning of my hike the clouds played kaleidoscope with the sun, skittering shadows on the Earthen treescape *and I'm in love with hiking all over again* Traveling on to the East peak seemed like a cinch, only one mile away over rocky trodden trail. There is a very difficult craig called "the Chimney" as you descent to the col; about fifty-feet of tricky rocky tetris hard-footing. There IS a round-about/"cheaters" route which is considerably less difficult which I would recommend for descent, but I challenged myself on the return (I was VERY thankful to be in a caravan at that point!). East peak is a bit of a let down after the grande sweeping views of the previous summit (just a pile of rocks really, I walked past this "marker" before I had even realized what it identified). There are a couple of peekaboo viewpoints Northeast along this short trail which are quite nice, and made returning to the peak all that more enjoyable. It is easy to understand why this is one of the most popular hikes in the Whites. I passed all typed on my trek: singles, couples, friends, and families - it is a moderate hike with fantastic visual rewards!

I'll post pics here! Sept 2019 - had a great time learning Wilderness Navigation through an all day course on Saturday. I learned a ton and really enjoyed Mike's teaching style. It included classroom time, outdoor time and outdoor bushwhacking time in the woods. I finally understood the map and compass concept from a "does that sense" perspective - not just a mechanical perspective....so it makes much much more sense to me than it had in the last. I could find my way out of the woods now through bushwhacking if I needed to (and I am going to do it on purpose for fun as well!) Thanks Mike!

We had an excellent experience with Northeast Mountaineering. My husband has gone ice climbing with…read morethem before, so we had 100% confidence in technical skills, gear rentals etc going in. For this trip though, we were bringing our 7&9 year olds for their first ever outdoor rock climbing experience. While we were confident that the guide would have the technical skills necessary to support new climbers on this rock, the soft skills needed to support such young children are quite different. Noah, our guide, exceeded all of our expectations. He was a patient and sturdy leader throughout our adventure. He was flexible and adapted to everyone's needs. He was ready with options for a change of plans when things were moving slower or more quickly than anticipated. Our typically 'slow to warm up' child asked on the ride home, "you guys have been friends with him forever, right?" And, although we all just met Noah that morning, he built rapport with our crew quickly and easily. For our son, that made the difference between spending the day cautious around a new person or digging in and enjoying a new adventure.

Otter Rocks only contains one of the two things in its name... but don't let that stop you from…read morepulling over on the Kanc to explore this beautiful area! Lots of lovely flora? Check. Smoothed over rocks from rushing water? Check. A natural swimming hole? Check. (Wait! I guess that makes YOU the otter here!) This area can be extremely busy during the hot weather because it's an actual spot on the Kanc that one can go splashing around in (there are lots of places where this isn't recommended or is totally banned because of the jagged gorges and strong currents). Because it's a bit more "advertised" (and has actual picnic tables and restrooms), it can be insanely busy in the warmer weather. PRO TIP: there are other "swimming hole" areas nearby in this particular vicinity, but you'll have to go hiking for them... CARRY IN, CARRY OUT PLEASE.

We had clear expectations set about river conditions (water was a little low and we had to walk in several places). The kayaks were all in good repair with no issues with performance or use. We will definitely be back, as the group had a wonderful time.
