Jay refinished my floors back in April (this review is long overdue) and really did a great job. I'm extremely perfectionistic and would recommend him to anyone. He is reliable, knowledgeable, accommodating, and very reasonably priced. His calm, professional demeanor was very much appreciated during all the chaos of moving and coordinating the floor refinishing process. We did have a little issue with the poly in one area but Jay was so gracious in how he handled the situation. I did a TON of research and met with various flooring companies and took a chance on Jay based on the online reviews. If I had any complaint it's that when they stained the floors , a little of it got on the baseboard and stair spindles, but that was probably my bad bc I had mentioned we were having them repainted not knowing that it costs more to repaint something once it has an oil base stain, lesson learned. The FBJ team came over within a day to sand the old finish away and demolish an ugly built-in closet. If there were 6 stars I'd give 7. Jay should have much more business and is a hidden Gem. Of all the contractors I spoke with to finish my floors (everyone else here on yelp) Jay and Damien were by far the best in every way. Jay showed up promptly on a Saturday at 9:30am in a mask, unlike all contractors (which was much appreciated) to review the floors and provide his thoughts. I was immediately impressed since it's impossible to get a contractor to show up on time, even on a weekday to do their job. He clearly had a detailed understanding of what had been and needed to be done and expertise of the various types of products. He had a no-pressure, relaxed demeanor, and did not come off salesy/in a rush. Since I'm a Diy-er I get very into the weeds about which finish, the process and all the details. Jay was incredible, and more responsive than my own brother, answering my many texts with his thoughts and being extremely accommodating. I would message a few questions late at night and either immediately or by 7am I'd have a response from him. This type of service does not exist anymore and it made me much more comfortable with the process. When it came to getting paperwork for the condo squared away, Jay was prompt and responsive providing the required documents and updating as requested, so not to delay the process. To this day, I'm still waiting for other providers to fill out their documents who would "get it to me today". That's to say that Jay is a man of his word which is hard to come by and instills a lot of trust for a customer. When it came to scheduling, Jay was extremely accommodating. We agreed to a date 2 weeks out on a Friday. The plan was to come in, move furniture to another Apt across the hall, do the floors, and come back a few days later to move it back. However, our plans suddenly got pushed up, requiring us to do the job way earlier. No surprise, Jay and Damien rose to the occasion and pulled the work forward by 2 weeks, a mere 4 days after building approval, and got it done first thing that Monday. They arrived on time, worked quickly and efficiently to move the furniture, buff the floors and re-coat, in masks the whole time (again, much appreciated). When it came to moving everything back, again they were super flexible, came in noon on a Saturday and got it all done While I've spent a lot of time on the service, the work and pricing were also exceptional, better than any other provider on Yelp. I spoke to them all and they all fell short, disappeared mid-conversation, or had Primadona egos (I spoke to 8 others on Yelp so you can figure out who on here was brought in for an estimate). Jay was no-pressure, no hassle and didn't nit-pick over the price, payment schedule, deposits, how many millimeters of space the apartment was, etc.. And the floors came out beautiful. We used Loba 2K Supra AT Satin, which I purchased and Jay deducted from his invoice. And with all of that, he was also the most reasonably priced of any contractor on Yelp?! I cannot speak more highly about this experience. If I had more floors I'd hire Jay and Damien in a heart beat. After 20 years we decided to refinish the floors in our old Tudor home. It was my first time doing this so didn't know what to expect or who to trust. I called a few places for a quote but wasn't comfortable until I talked to Jay. Jay wasn't a fast talking salesman like everyone else. He came across knowledgeable, respectable and honest AND he had the best price! A bit nervous about color, jay made himself accessible through text and was very patient with me taking me through my concerns. The day of the job he came by with his mask on ( worked with one on the whole time) and all his equipment and boy I did not realize what a big job it was ! It took him a few days since I had much area to cover but the end result was beautiful ! There's no question I would recommend him as he is a hard worker and does beautiful work - not to mention he is reasonably priced. I cannot recommend Jay highly enough. Jay was the second contractor to put flooring down in our apartment within 6 months. The first was a nightmare, and we were in dire need for a dependent contractor who would help steer us in the right direction. The first thing that separated Jay apart from the rest was his compassion. When we explained our situation, he recommended that he try to fix the floor first to save us some money - he was the only one we reached out to who even thought about this option. With a full rip and replace in order, Jay guided us through every step of the process, including selecting our floors. He was extremely helpful, transparent, and we felt comfortable from the start - he even came by to accept a curbside delivery and get the material into the apartment when we weren't home! The job was done quickly, and he always made sure we knew what was going on each step of the way. Additionally, knowing we were fully moved in, he did everything he needed to get the job done quickly. The end product was flawless and we could not be happier. He was extremely respectful of our apartment and belongings and completed the job without leaving even the slightest mark on anything - this is no small feat for a flooring job!
