I love me a good pupusa and Flores hits the spot. The service was good, they were very attentive. The pupusas were delicious. Crispy with good flavor. Honestly, I like the pork pupusas the best but that's my personal opinion. The veggies were delicious. It had the right amount of tanginess. Their horchata was a bit too sweet though. Overall, I would recommend!

$18...for 3 fried shrimp and some pinto beans. Come on...not even on DD or a different website.

Holy crap this place is amazing. I am Venezuelan but I've never tried Salvadorian food. I figured since I love Venezuelan food this couldn't be too far off. I was delighted with it! The flavors that they put together were uniquely delicious and perfect. I got a pupusa and the grilled steak plate. Both of them were so great. I think I'm still partial towards my Venezuelan food, but if I ever see a Salvadorian restaurant again I will go out of my way to visit. Really highly recommend!

    Chicken meal with papusa.

I ordered the chicken meal and a papusa. Papusa came with a reddish - orange sauce and a coleslaw salad mixture and was wonderful. I wish I would have ordered more than one! The chicken meal came with grilled chicken, seasoned rice, terrier beans and a fresh mix of onion, tomato, cilantro plus cheese mixture with a lime juice flavor. Would be 4 stars but I marked I wanted silverware. Then when you check out it has another option to opt out of silverware I left blank. Im traveling and would have preferred if they had included. Where I am staying did have silverware or I would have had difficulty eating.

Pupusas de chicharron con salsa y curtido de Flores Restaurant in Portland, Maine.

Flores is a tiny, barely noticeable, hidden gem on Congress street in Portland, Maine. If you're familiar with Salvadoran food - especially pupusas (obviously) - you need to stop here. The pupusas are perfect. Not too thin & lacking filling, and not too thick with too much Maseca. They remind me of true Salvadoran pupusas. Their curtido and salsa is perfect. If you've never tried pupusas I'd recommend the cheese and loroco (queso con loroco) or the pork (chicharron). Loroco is a vegetable native to El Salvador. I also love their chicken tamales & their chicken and cheese empanadas. This review comes from a Caucasian woman who has been to El Salvador three times, who has two half Salvadoran daughters. Trust me on this one!

I could've done without the lettuce in the burrito, and I did remove 1 star because it was falling apart when I got home and I ended up having to use my own (store bought) tortilla, which was disappointing after paying $17 for a burrito. Even so, everything was super flavorful! Tacos would be my recommendation to others. I also very much appreciate that the food is all authentic and handmade, they had picnic tables in the shade for seating, and the chef was welcoming and happy to explain the menu options.

I have heard great things and was really hoping they had pupusas available on the truck... but no such luck. Only tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. That's ok because the very kind gentleman on the truck made the 3 Amigos sound really good! It's one pork, one beef, and one chicken taco on homemade tortillas with the standard fixings - onion, cilantro, guac, and salsa. I will say that the homemade tortillas are very good, though different than most I've had. They are soft to the point of almost being creamy? Very very rich, reminded me of the base of a sope. The meats were absolutely delicious and grilled and full of flavor. I loved both the pork and the beef, though the fattiness could've used an extra lime or two. I took one bite of the chicken taco and got a couple little bones, so I didn't eat the rest of that one. The sauces were good, though I was told one of the sauces was VERY VERY hot and I didn't detect a lot of spiciness from it. I think overall, I could've used double garnish, double lime, and a lot of extra heat. There are no prices on the board so I was thinking three tacos would come to like $10 - $12. Turns out they are $20 before tax, holy moley. I admit that my expectations were high before I even took a bite, because that price point is a little crazy. I am super curious about the brick and mortar because I'm sure it's a different experience with the food truck. These tacos were definitely tasty enough to do some more research!

That's on me, though, because this is an excellent local restaurant run by a great family. And it says something that they have been around for so long and have even survived (And expanded!) through COVID. The front counter area is a bit crowded and busy because the door opens right up into it. It's efficient but it does mean making your selection and order can be a little awkward if there are others waiting. After the counter, though, there's plenty of space inside to sit down and there are even several tables outside along the building. The food was great. Like I said, it had been a while for me, so I decided to keep it simple and go for a few tacos. I will say that $6-$6.50 feels steep for a single taco. However, I have watched and listened to many chefs say that the idea that Mexican food should be quick and cheap is a huuuge misconception. So, while I'm no food expert, I think that's something to consider, and of course I understand that prices these days for raw materials have increased considerably. Ultimately it's certainly not a cost prohibitive level at this point. I had the Pollo con Mole (Chicken with mole sauce), Taco al Pastor (Pork and pineapple), and the Barbacoa (BBQ goat) Tacos. My favorite by far was the goat. I'm a sucker for Tacos al Pastor so that was good, and the chicken with mole was great. I got an extra order of chips because I didn't realize the tacos came with chips. So heads up on that if you want some chips with your meal. One of the things I was most excited about was the Agua Fresca. Basically it's a fruit juice. They make those and horchata (rice milk) in house with rotating flavors. The agua fresca was strawberry when I got it and it was absolutely delicious. I definitely need to keep Taco Trio in mind the next time I'm hungry for some takeout. They should not be missed!
