It may not have been as bad if we were seated at a table or booth but we were at the counter, which was right on top of the cash register. We should have walked out but didn't. The Florida Cracker Kitchen is an amazing place to eat, shop, or just spend time with friends and family ( I might emphasize eat strongly). This is a chain that I am very happy to say has a location in Brooksville. It is a uniquely Florida restaurant and thus perfect for taking friends and relatives from out of town who want to see the real Florida, not just the beach. The term Florida Cracker is a name for a Florida Cowboy or a person who is third generation Floridian. Florida was settled by the cattle business- not the beach and not Walt Disney. Ok so now the important part of the review, the restaurant. This place is clean and the staff are friendly. You feel like you know them. If there is a long wait, you can visit the shop next door which has some pretty cool merchandise- made in Florida. The food is excellent. I like going here for brunch. The fresh made corned beef and hash - never from a can is to die for, as are the omelets. The pancakes with apple cinnamon compote are delicious as well, but you must try the cinnamon roll if nothing else. Made with biscuit dough, these pieces of heaven on earth are a culinary delight which will make you begin to grow wings on the first bite ( forget Cinnabon!). Wow what a hearty breakfast! I love the country atmosphere here and music is really fun. It was about 30 min waiting but it's definitely worth it! I have eaten here a couple of times as we travel through Brooksville and never had a bad experience. Remember if you go to bring cash as they don't take credit cards. They have expanded the brand to include a bar, and retail shops, but the restaurant is still small with tables that can fit 4 large or 6 small people and only around 20 booths. Most of the time there is a line waiting to be seated so be prepared to shop, or drink while you wait. The PA reaches all of the different areas so you can hear when your table is called. They serve breakfast and lunch all day ( 7:00 - 2:30) and everything is cooked to order so its always fresh and hot. We recently had the Panko shrimp, the grilled cheese sandwich with bacon, the cowboy skillet, the cheeseburger and of course the cinnamon roll. Not all at once but when your there you can see everything that comes out of the kitchen that is delivered to the different tables around you and remember what it was like when you ordered it the last time. This place needs a more honest review. Clearly a tourist trap. Has giant Pabst sign: serves no Pabst. Instead you can "enjoy" $6 mimosas and $15 beers. Although as a private citizen I can accept credit cards 4 different ways, this establishments is cash only and said they do not have their credit card system up yet. After waiting 35 minutes in the gift shop/bar/cash grab, we decided to go to one of the 10 other more deserving Brooksville restaurants. Sale: $32 bead necklace. Things that need to improve on The picnic tables outside are not ideal for children under 7 you can't put a two year old on that table in a booster seat dangerous also the seating that is outside for waiting needs to make sure the nails that run on the seams of the chairs are nailed in when you put little people on them children they scoot off of them and the nails will scratch the back of their legs it happened to my two-year-old. First and foremost, I love the food at Florida Cracker Kitchen. I have been here twice and I have to say I have had pretty much the best breakfast I will ever have. So why only two stars? Have you ever had service so bad it makes you not enjoy great food.? Let me start at the beginning... The setting of FCK is awesome, with a separate tap room and general store. The general store is mostly YETI products and they could use a better mix, but this review is about the reataurant. A few points to make...they have great prices, mostly due to their cash only policy. The menu is rather small, which allows them to specialize in some great food. I've had a skillet here, the potatoes, and the world's best French toast. So all of this has been positive and you're confused about the two stars... I felt so unwelcome by the servers that it put a bad taste in my mount. On the last visit, we were served by S****y who was downright rude. She was so bad that another customer actually said something to me. This is a neat place and the owner was rather nice beforehand, so I really hope they get things fixed. read more

We found our way on a drive heading out to the coast. We put our name in and were handed a wooden ruler with a number on it. We opted to walk around and look at the old signs, gas pumps and trucks that are on the property. I had the corned beef hash with two fried eggs and an enormous biscuit. The hash was literally the best I have ever had, fresh with chunks of corned beef and potatoes. So delicious and worth the wait! Food was authentic to Florida and beers were on point! The grits with the gravy was heaven in my mouth, aGrilled cheese and gator po boy were the fav at the table. Burger, not so much. Possibly ordered the wrong one. Love the locale bar which only serves local craft beer and delicious sprecher sodas (which were not local, but great pops). Only recommendation is having a second bartender, she was so busy we never ordered a beer from her (ordered one from the waitress). The cute little locale store next to the bar was a over priced, but still fun to browse in. Be prepared to wait, it's was 1.5 hours for us on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm. A family owned one-off where they take real pride in serving a wonderful menu full of genuine house-made fare. Ethan is the real-deal chef/owner and his brother Blair is the brand genius/owner who also is expert at making you feel welcome and assuring you have a fantastic old-Florida experience. There are so many great plates here so I will go over a few of them. They are regionally known for their shrimp n grits. It's not hard to see why! The grits are a hefty crisp triangle thats lightly fried to give the outside some texture and leaves the inside deliciously creamy. They are generous with the sizable shrimp that are never overcooked. Here's where they deviate from any version of this you've probably had... It all comes together with a well-executed tomato gravy that most certainly has a special appeal to us real Florida Crackers. And speaking of crackers, be sure to get the smoked mullet dip served with saltines! They regularly fire up the smoker out back to smoke fresh mullet caught nearby in Hernando County. One of my favorites on the menu. All kinds of other great stuff is available including not your average breakfast stuff. Amazing French Toast, big fluffy omelettes and a breakfast burrito. They are also known for their burgers and sandwiches including a great Club. As if this isn't already a home run, there's an adjacent tap room serving Florida's best craft brews. A really comfortable room to enjoy brews with your friends is paired with a great patio with lots of seating where you'll occasionally smell ribs & wings being smoked on the pair of Primo's along with the freshest oysters being roasted over an open fire. Found this great place by chance looking for breakfast, it's not very big and if you're going fast you could miss it which would be a great shame. Going over their considerable menu I chose the FCK French Toast, sausage, home fries (pictured). With the amount of food served I could've shared with two other men and we'd all been completely satisfied. It's a home town feel place and a true gem of this area. I'll be back soon. We had a large group and they set us up in their outdoor tented in side porch dining area with the heater on and we were thrilled with the food, service with a smile, and oh yeah, the food!
