Last night we made our second visit to Florida Cracker Kitchen the first time we had the shrimp and grits and I thought they were very good. Stopped by when we were visiting family in Spring Hill. Nice spot for breakfast, we split an omelette and french toast. Both were tasty, the biscuit and gravy was my favorite. We really enjoyed the tap room next door to really make the most of our break from the family as they had a nice selection of local beer. read more

I recently went to the new Jacksonville, FL location. The ambiance is a neat place although it seems like the place has a personality disorder as it is a bar, gift store & breakfast/ lunch establishment as all three exist under the same roof. The wait wasn't too bad but would have been non- existent had more tables been added and less bar space. I'm not understanding the bar area if the place closes at 2:30PM what the purpose is, just have a breakfast place that serves alcohol beverages & put more tables in. Regardless, as mentioned I liked the ambiance even though it does not make the most sense in my opinion. A store/ restaurant seems to work well for Cracker Barrel- not sure if FLK will have the same draw. The staff was very friendly and helpful although you could tell it was a new restaurant and they seemed a bit disorganized & trying to learn the new ordering screens instead of using a pad/ paper to take orders. The food- this is where they lost me. I ordered the Cowboy Hash breakfast. DO NOT order this if you are expecting to receive a better version of the typical (dog food texture) corn beef hash. The hash here is more like pieces of corn beef mixed in with some greasy potato slices. You may think it is great but I found it not palatable. I guess I should have asked if I could see it before ordering it but what turned me off even more is that my eggs were cold on arrival. The party I was with ordered other things and seemed pleased which was a good thing. The funny thing is I was speaking with someone later that asked if I had tried FCK & I mentioned the corn beef hash and they said the same thing that they did not care for it- they did say the cinnamon buns were amazing but unfortunately I did not order those. Needless to say I think I would much rather go to Metro Diner and wait for a better quality meal than to take a chance with this place again unless of course I am dying to have a bloody mary with my meal. read more

Great restaurant. My husband loves their Shepherd pie. They have a great gift shop and carry lots of yeti products for sale as well. I highly recommend this restaurant and very country. Will return soon. They also make a delicious fruit salad and their is always a line to eat their so you know it's good. Small Place. Always Packed. Was taken over a year or two ago, and it was great before, and definitely Still Great! I wish they still had my Mango Chicken on the menu, but I think Key West cafe kept that recipe :) But they've got recipies of their own! Homemade Bread, they even make their own syrup! Everything is homemade! Huge Biscuits and gravy, and any shrimp dish rocks! They have a Tomato Gravy Shrimp dish that is definitely great! Don't let tomato gravy scare you because it was the best thing all day I put in my mouth ha ha! Breakfast is the best I've had in the area and I love their breakfast potatoes. Definitely recommend the spot and worth the drive into Brooksville if you live in Spring Hill! Friendly and knowledgeable wait staff, They get em in and get em out! My wife and I had breakfast the FCK this morning and were quite disappointed, as this is one of our very favorite breakfast spots. We were pleased to be seated immediately in a corner booth. However, there was a speaker directly over the booth blaring completely inappropriate music WAY too loudly. It made conversation very difficult. We had heard so many good things about the Cracker so yesterday we decided to try it. Sunday was apparently not a good time to do this. There was a 40 minute wait. It was raining but they had a little "touristy" store there to browse through. After 45 minutes of waiting and several people go through I asked the girl at the store counter to check for us. She informed me that it was like this on weekends. So she wouldn't check. After waiting another 10 minutes we decided to check for ourselves. We were informed that our # was never put in line. Her comment was "sorry about that"! We were seated at the next available table! This was on the porch with surrounding plastic that didn't reach the floor, overhead heaters that were either too hot or not warm enough. The food was served fairly quickly. It was good but was it worth all of this? Not in a "million"! Would we go again? Yes if there is no more then a 10 minute wait! read more

This place is awesome. If you like southern style and local cuisine this is the place. Cash only (ATM inside) and not too large of a dining area. But they do have a shop and a "watering hole" with a few local beers to kill a little time. My dad and I went here recently after he had drove by a few times and wanted to go but he was never that way when it was open. It closes after lunch time. There is an old truck sitting out front and rocking chairs on the "porch". There's the inside seating and a small patio. We sat outside because the inside was full and it was a nice day. The wait staff were like a well oiled machine. I watched impressed by how seamless their order taking, drink filling, food delivery, clean up was..The floors tables walls were spotless. They didn't miss a beat..which honestly I don't see that too often anymore. I ordered French toast with sausage and grits. My dad got a Mexican omelette with potatoes and toast. Everything was delicious. You can taste how fresh everything was. The French toast was huge slices of bread but easily chewed. Perfectly cooked. The grits were smack your momma good. I am from Louisiana so I'm pretty picky about my grits and haven't had any for a long time because I'm usually disappointed. Not this time. These were the best real grits I have ever had. Almost better than my Mema's. My dad was very happy with his omelette. He put the Florida cracker kitchen hot sauce on it. We both loved the fact that everything is locally made and so fresh. We both ate to our fullest, what's different though is neither one of us felt gross full. Just satisfied full. Usually when we eat that much food it's uncomfortable, maybe the freshness and real ingredients makes the difference. We have found our new spot to go when I visit him in Brooksville! This place is fantastic in every way. Such as: Decor- this place is obviously intended to be charming and it is while it exudes an authentic small town charm. It does this while be cleaner than places that are really going for more of a tablecloth-esq appeal. The people- they are great. They engage everyone and I could hear that they remember people that come in and they genuinely give a damn. They care about the area and make every effort possible to craft their made from scratch food from local resources. The food. It is impossible for it to not be great considering the above. Everything is made from scratch. This isn't a Sisco vendor for sure. They make everything from scratch and even go so far as to bake their own bread. Do yourself a favor and make it into this place. We've been here numerous times now, so I thought it was finally time to rant about the food & service we experience every time! Upon driving up to FCK, it always looks like it is very busy and that you may be faced with a very looong wait time..but fear not! We arrived today to a full parking lot, as well as a generous amount of people waiting outside. We were behind 2 huge parties, and our wait time was no more than 10 minutes - awesome! We had the chicken and waffles, cracker omelette & the French toast. All of it was delicious, but we weren't able to finish it all since we had 2 cinnamon rolls as appetizers. We went there one night and had the crab meat purses as an appetizer and they were delicious. Yum! Blair and his crew really know what they're doing here, so I definitely recommended stopping in if you're a local or even if you're just passing through Brooksville. A Friday motorcycle ride into the country took us first for breakfast here. We each ordered different items and everyone was very pleased with their choices. The food was tasty and the servings were almost too large. My omelet was very moist and filled with goodies. Biscuit was large but not to my liking, so the only think I wouldn't order again. I had the crab cakes and I would have rested then a solid 8, but they were so salty as to cover the flavor. The slaw is made with lettuce, carrots and onions - lots and lots of onions. Fries were good but nothing special, but the sweet potato chips were crusted in sea salt and not to my taste. Would have been excellent without the seasoning. First things first...they only accept cash!!! There is an ATM... so problem solved. Now, for the review. We ordered water with lemon, gumbo, crab cakes basket and Papa gators brisket sandwich. It would be easier for me to tell you what I didn't like...which was nothing! The gumbo was the best I've ever had! Seriously! My husband really doesn't like gumbo but I asked him try this one and he said "oh wow! I don't know what I'm eating but that's real good". I got the crab cakes and they were two thick good-sized cakes! So full of flavor and fresh! So fresh! The collards are done right! The sweet potato chips are so light and crispy! Best breakfast in Hernando! My husband and I go for breakfast every week. The food is delicious and service is fast and friendly. If there's a wait, don't be discouraged. They turn tables quickly. I love the Cinnamon Apple French Toast and my husband can't resist the Shrimp & Grits. We recently tried out the new dinner menu and we weren't disappointed. Presentation is fantastic and it tastes great too! I highly recommend the Crab Purses as an appetizer. I hope they change their dinner menu up occasionally so there is always something new to try. The only thing I wish they served was local wine like Keel and Curley. Love this place and they are constantly making improvements. Try it out but keep in mind that they are cash only.
