This was not my first visit to Florida Eye Clinic, but I was finally seen in a reasonable amount of time. Typically, they over book their clients and make you wait for HOURS in the rear waiting room. Either poor planning or no regard for their customers time. I saw one of the bright spots today, Dr. Levando. She is an excellent care giver, who actually listened to my concerns. 5 Star for her. The front desk staff was too concerned with their chatter to really care what was going on in the waiting room. This clinic was referred by Optical Eye Outlet in Tavares where I live. So it was 20+ miles to get to them and it was like a DEI oriented business and the three ladies sitting in the eyeglass selection section were extremely obese. You could not get a real person when calling. They took two weeks to call me back after the referral, and then said they did not take my insurance. After I called my insurance firm, who said they DID take my insurance, I called again and just started pressing buttons to get a real person to schedule an appointment. Then the project manager twice failed to return phone calls after they scheduled me to visit the eye surgery office which was WAY over in Maitland, where you have to visit at least three times. Nothing made me confident in this chain clinic, so I asked my insurance firm to cancel them so I could find another firm like one recommended by a surgeon frient. These guys failed customer service 101 and need to take a course in customer relations from Disney, which is an actual ccourse and our Lake County DMV has gone and are much better than this schlock outfit. Quickly taken back for my eye exam even before I completed the paperwork. Dr Dawson and his assistants provided a thorough exam which I did not receive from a different eye clinic just only one month prior and where I had to wait for four hours. All of the staff were positive and quick to answer questions. read more

After my annual glaucoma check up they did not ordered enough refills and they never answer walgreens' request for my refills. I tried many times to contact them and they never answer the phone instead they have an answer machine but they never respond to your call. i had to go personally to their office for my refills. I've been a patient at Florida Eye Clinic for years, but after my most recent visit, I won't be returning. I was the very first appointment of the day and was surprised to be asked to sign a non-compete agreement simply because my original doctor is no longer there. I was informed that if Dr. Daniel Dawson--who now works at this location--had ever seen me before while at McGruder, I would not be able to be seen. That kind of information should absolutely be communicated before the appointment, over the phone. I was finally taken back at 8:15 AM. I explained to the assistant that I was experiencing dry, itchy eyes. She did a quick vision test, moved me to another room, and left the door wide open. I then sat there listening to employees loudly laughing and joking around, including the doctor himself who came over to join them and chat about a TikTok video. It felt unprofessional and inconsiderate. After about 15 minutes of waiting, Dr. Daniel Dawson entered with another assistant. The computer in the room wasn't even turned on, and they spent 3-4 minutes trying to boot it up. My actual exam lasted about 2 minutes. None of the concerns I had shared with the assistant were addressed, and the doctor seemed completely disengaged. To make matters worse, the doctor's breath was overwhelmingly unpleasant, which made the already brief and impersonal exam even more uncomfortable. I've trusted this clinic for years, but the lack of professionalism, poor communication, and overall dismissive care I received this time made it clear that it's time to find a new provider. 1st Visit) I felt rushed through my eye exam and wouldn't you know it I couldn't wear the glasses I bought with that prescription. So back I go for a rescreening. 2nd Visit) My appointment was for 11 a.m. so I arrived at 10:50 a.m. There were only two other people in the office so I thought this will be quick and easy. No, nothing was quick about today's visit. I did not see the doctor until 12:30 p.m. What took so long you say? I don't honestly know. After waiting for over 90 minutes I started to google reviews for this office. Everyone said the same thing, long wait times are the norm for this practice. I don't mind waiting a reasonable amount of time which I know varies by person but it should not have to take 1 1/2 hours from the time I walked in the door until I saw the doctor then a quick 15-20 minutes for the exam. I wasted 2 hours out of my day today. Needless to say, I will not be returning here. read more

Dr. Shoss is great but his support staff is terrible. They were supposed to call in a prescription on a Thursday but they didn't. I called the office many times on Friday but they never answered the phone. I left several voice messages and emails but no one returned my call until Monday. As a result, I went FOUR days without treatment for a very painful eye disorder. And shockingly, one of the techs hung up on me when I voiced my frustration about the situation. She was rude and very unprofessional. I have left the practice because of this issue and found another ophthalmologist. This one even provides his patients with wifi! read more

Day 1 Thursday, April 21, 2022 My Dad had to go here as he scratched his cornea. He went the first time but didn't have his ID so they wouldn't see him. (This is strange because normally when you visit a doctors office they never ask for a ID, but he didn't have it so he left and waited for me to get off work at 4:30 to take him back. We live literally 3 minutes away from this business. We get back at approximately 4:47 and guess what "They are closed, lights off and not a car in sight". We left there went to Walgreens to see if they had a eye patch so he wouldn't irritate it and went back home with intentions to go first thing the next day Fast forward Day 2 Friday, April 22, 2022 We get up early to get here being that he was in pain. he had a copay of $40 no problem. However, as he is in pain and I'm assisting with completing all of the paperwork the Assistant asks for payment and as it couldn't get worst we ran out and I didn't have my debit card. I called my brother to bring my card being that we live so close and the assistant would not have him seen. The strange thing is because another lady who walked in not long after we did left her wallet in the car and guess what the same lady said we can settle you bill later on. How racist was this??!! Same situation she gets to see yet she is able to see through both eyes and he's struggling to see with the one eye he has. How wonderful the service once seen by the doctor was good but the customer service sucked!! Btw my brother did show up with the card we gave it to her and in seconds were called to see the doctor. Just bizarre. I wish i had her name but if your reading this note to self you shouldn't pick and choose who you would like to follow your policy. I would've given this place 3 stars but the fact that the receptionist is racist they get 1 star. I believe y'all need to reflect what is done for one can be done for all. If we have any inclination that we would pay for crying out loud he works for the federal government. This behavior was uncalled for and unjust. read more

Dr. Shoss and his staff helped by brother through a most difficult time in determining that he would need a Cornea transplant. I can't thank them enough for their professionalism and dedication to seeing a successful outcome for him. Even before it was determined that he would need a cornea transplant and he was trying to find his way from Lady Lake, Florida to their Clermont office location on his own, the staff was patient and helped him find appropriate transportation through his insurance. It is true that the wait time in the office can be frustrating, but Dr. Shoss' expertise and professionalism make it worth your while for sure. read more

I was excited to make appointment for the biometric lenses. Although the staff was dismissive and treated the patients like cattle, I continued with high hopes. Two hours and 15 minutes later - I was no longer excited. I asked the attendant how much longer. She responded, "You're next.'" - I was not. If you are retired and have all day to sit at the doctor, this may be a great place. If you expect to be treated with professionalism and timeliness - this is the wrong facility. read more

First time here. Appointment was at 8:05am, wasnt seen until 9:45. Dr. Shoss was good very thorough, personable and you can ask any question. My only issue is that the supportive staff were speaking loudly, saying patients names and diagnosis. Violation of HIPPA. They should put TVs or background music to muffle the noise, or just close the doors when you are on the phone. Some of the technicians were nit overly friendly, they were kind of stand off attitude. read more

I can't find the correct words to express my experience , at the eye clinic today. The staff from the front desk and the eye technicians were far and beyond. Friendly and professionals all the time. I want to take a moment to talk about Dr. Shoss. I came with a lot of questions, concerns and worries about my vision. There were a point In our conversation that I was crying and at this moment, even though he was very busy, he just stop on his chair and start listening with patience, empathy and concern. I felt heard. He was on my shoes. He performed and eye exam like I haven't experienced before, very cautious and very well documented. He gave me a diagnosis with all the posible scenarios. Plan A, b and C were followed solutions are recommended. A the end I felt relieve and hoped. I was in a good hands. Dr. Shoss thanks for your kindness. I had to see Dr. Shoss on an emergency basis. The staff was able to squeeze me in that afternoon. I found Dr. Shoss easy to talk to. The nurses were wonderful, explaining everything as we went along. I was scheduled for surgery in two days. That was also a great experience. What could have been a horrible ordeal for me turned out to work out in the end, I am very happy with this place of business and already have my next appointment scheduled. read more

We had a family emergency of blurry vision. We called the main number and were politely transferred to Clermont where we were told they may have an opening for an emergency appointment. The receptionist in Clermont was extremely professional with a wonderful caring attitude. She listened and with only an hours notice we were told to come in. We naturally had to wait until last appointment of day but received an incredible exam by Dr Shoss and then they scheduled another appointment with a retina specialist within one business day. This was a serious matter and it was such a relief to find an clinic that heard our need for attention and were able to provide it in such a wonderful efficient and professional manner!!!
