Fish lover noodle soup was okay
    Christina L.

I've been here twice. First time I ordered the assembly set where you pour in all the ingredients yourself. It looks cool, but to be honest, the food doesn't taste any better that way. It's just more work for you lol. Second time I ordered the fish lover. It came in one bowl, but it still tasted assembled, meaning they poured pre-cooked ingredients into the soup broth. It's not bad; it's just that you can tell the ingredients weren't cooked into the broth and so they are all bland because they did not have a chance to absorb the flavour from the broth during the cooking process.

This restaurant has the interesting names! It's called Flower and Horse in Spring. It specializes in Yunnan Chinese cuisine with its most notable dish: Crossing the Bridge Rice noodle (guoqiao mixian). The names are pretty much translated from Chinese with Google Translate lol. This restaurant is small and cozy with a lot of color Yunnan province decor. It wasn't very busy and easily got a table. Their menu has even more interesting names such as Holy Cow, Dream Come True, Soft and Smooth, Hardcore, and etc. Also, something of note, there's a minimum charge of $10/person. In other words, we weren't able to share one order of noodles! I don't like being forced to order something I didn't want and spend more money... We ordered the Mushroom Delight Mixian. Each of the mixian comes with a bowl of soup in a super hot pot, and a bowl of rice noodles that was probably the dried variety of Lai Fun. Ours came with enoki, King Oyster, and shiitake mushrooms. It is served with twelve side dishes that will go into the bowl: quail egg, luncheon meat, fish fillet, marinated ground pork, tomato, carrot, bean sprouts, green onions, chives, bean curd sheets, Yunnan pickles, and corn. Be careful now as the bowl is really hot in order to cook the raw sides. The correct order to put the sides in is from raw to cooked, so the fish went in first, then the quail egg, and then after that is what vegetables needs more time first. In this case, it was the chives the everything else. Then plop the noodles on top, mix it around a minute or two, and you're ready to eat. It's basically a build your own noodle soup. The broth was on the bland side for my taste, but the noodles were good and the ingredients used were good. It was a decent bowl of noodles with a homey feel. We also had the Marinated Beef and Tripe in Spicy Sauce as we needed to cover the required $10/person minimum. This was nice and spicy! The beef and tripe were well prepared, and everything was flavorful and tasty. My wife thought it was too flavorful and too spicy. Overall, Crossing the Bridge to Flower and Horse in Spring for a Mushroom Delight was a decent experience. The staff was courteous and helpful, but I didn't appreciate being told that I didn't leave a tip immediately after I paid using my credit card. I was gonna pay cash tip. I thought all Chinese owned businesses love cold, hard cash! I haven't personally had Yunnan cuisine in China, but I've been told that this is how it's supposed to be and every place has their own style of broth. The noodles and ingredients used really felt like a home cooked meal though, and something I can do and probably make better. I just need a bunch of saucer plates!

I love the noodle soups here! Sooooo delicious! I am also quite partial to their appetizer of shredded bean curd sheets tossed with a simple sesame garlic sauce with cilantro. I am surprised that these noodle like strips of ribbony tofu hasn't caught on with all the vegans and vegetarians yet (you can eat them hot or cold). The decor is awesome, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Don't let the chilies in the various photos scare off the spice-intolerant, they can make non-spicy versions for some of them. Definitely worth checking out, especially if the idea of delicious noodle soup sounds good to you.

I'm not very familiar with this type of food but it was pretty good! We shared some house special pickled radish which was a bit spicy. I had the Soft and Smooth which not exactly a soup noodle dish and it had a sesame peanut sauce that was really good and it came with soft tofu and ground meat. The restaurant had really good decor as well and it wasn't busy even during dinner time.

Finally got a chance to walk in and sit down here it was a quaint little restaurant with tons of traditional Chinese decor very cosy with pillows lining along sectional bench seat. They are Covid safe and had many people coming into order takeout or pick up their orders. The server was friendly and attentive and explain to us the dishes we ended up both ordering the spicy lamb dish and what I liked was that instead of putting it all together in the bowl everything is served on a separate plate for us so you can see what's going in there. They are serving Yun Nan food. Noodles are also served on the side.

It's like a DIY noodle assembly place with 17 toppings. I went with the Holy Cow option which came with the 16 toppings on a tray and a few slices of raw beef with your soup. I also chose the non spicy broth. (Although once you put some of the preserved veggies and spiced ground meat in, it gets a little spicy). There's an instruction sheet to help you get started which I totally needed! I thoroughly enjoyed my noodles on a cold rainy Vancouver evening. It's a little on the pricey side at $16.95 per tax but it's a nice little treat and change from all the ramen places.

This was a suggestion from a friend who said this place has some really nice noodles. I was underwhelmed and slightly disappointed. The presentation was amazing as you can see in the picture. The broth was not as strong as I was hoping. The noodles were pretty standard. The veggies were not as fresh as I would have liked them to be. The parking situation was horrendous. I did come at an off peak time and the store was not that packed but the service was slow and took a lot of me getting up to get what I needed, including the check.

Came here for lunch and was seated right away. I was feeling Yunnan style rice noodles and that's exactly what I got. The noodles were pretty great and the beef that came with them were pretty good quality. All of the toppings that you can add in also went well with the noodles. The flavor was a little light but that's pretty typical of this style of noodle.

The best Yunnna rice Noodle in Vancouver! Small restaurant located on busy Robson st, street parking available at $5/hour. When I see the menu I already know it would be very authentic as the dishes would only know by Yunnaness. We ordered 4 different ones to try, all very tasty. Some ingredients they must made by themselves as you won't be able to find it in the market. You can choose how spicy you want the soup to be, the taste can really help me to heal my homesick

I ordered "The Secret." This was my first time having this type of noodle soup, so I don't have much point of comparison, though I'm fairly ramen savvy. I chose medium spicy, and it was actually pretty spicy, which is great if you like spicy food (like me). There were a lot of flavors, and I wasn't sure how to eat it, but I found I liked it better after stiring it up a bit. Quite tasty and filling (and spicy!). Will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes.

This is a very interesting place for noodles from Yunan province in China. The service is great, the place is nicely decorated, and the foods are overall pretty good. It is a little bit on the spicy side, but you can order some cold appetizer or side dishes to cool the spiciness. The price point is a little bit high, but considering it is located right in downtown/West End area so if it is an acceptable and reasonable price point. The noodles are great, but for me the best is the sweet sesame dumplings!

Hotpot with more layers of flavor than your average Mongolian hotpot. Small place with only a few seats.

Dinasty also stays open a little later than most restaurants in town, making this a viable option when in a pinch for food but running late in the day. Will absolutely go back next time in town. Thanks for having us. Comparable to Dough Zone or Din Tai Fung, somewhere right in between with quality and cost. Everything was yummy.
