We came in with our 3 kids and glad the place was not too crowded as it is small. Hole in the wall type place. Not my favorite location as a visitor of Vancouver but moving on. The portions are huge and overall worth the price. We didn't enjoy the dumplings. They don't have a way to keep them hot so they got cold quick. They didn't taste very fresh. The orange chicken was good but not great. The chicken noodle soup was good. Green beens were very tasty. The chicken and jalapeño is way too spicy- I don't recommend it even if you like spicy. The fried rice was good but underwhelming. Overall the owner was helpful in helping us pack up food and she even put the bag of food in our stroller and was helpful. We saw this place while walking on Davie street. I love noodles so I had to go. A must try if you're ever in the area. Small mom and pop shop. . Lots of locals go here. I would say get what the locals get, but the Szechuan noodles were soooo good. Make sure you don't wear a white shirt while eating it. Everyone was friendly. Really good portion size. If you don't eat spicy food, you absolutely must order the Lanzhou beef noodles; if you do, you must order the braised beef noodles! I ordered the braised beef knife-cut noodles, and they were so delicious I almost cried! Great value for money, and the portions are very generous--a girl couldn't possibly finish a whole bowl! i decided to try happy noodle house on davie street after seeing so many positive reviews, including a 4.6 star rating on yelp. i also learned that the chef is formerly from peaceful restaurant, which raised my expectations given peaceful's reputation for hand pulled noodles and northern chinese cuisine. i dropped in at around 4:30 pm and spent a few minutes looking over the menu before deciding on what to order. apparently their wonton soup does not come with noodles, which caught me slightly off guard. a picture prominently featuring a roast chicken was unavailable, and the lamb skewers are available but served without skewers. i ordered takeout and chose the yang chow fried rice and the wonton soup. it didn't take long for the food to be cooked. it looked and smelled appetizing, which made me feel optimistic. the yang chow fried rice appeared colourful and hearty, with shrimp, bbq pork, scrambled egg, peas, carrots, corn, and green onions. the portion was generous, and the rice grains were nicely separated. while it was filling, the bbq pork wasn't properly bbq'd, flavour was milder than expected and slightly oily, lacking the depth we personally prefer. the wonton soup came with several plump wontons in a clear broth, topped with green onions and a piece of fried tofu. the wrappers were soft, and the filling was missing shrimp and had a lot of mystery fillers. the broth was light and subtle, which may appeal to those who enjoy a more delicate flavour profile. for our tastes, however, it felt somewhat underseasoned. overall, i can understand why this restaurant has built a loyal neighbourhood following, especially for its fresh noodles and good value. however, we had hoped for a bit more depth and boldness in flavour. while our experience did not fully meet our expectations, those who prefer lighter flavours and generous portions may appreciate it more than we did. still on the hunt for truly standout, authentic chinese comfort food in the downtown area. read more

The shop is located in downtown Vancouver. There was plenty of parking outside on a week day. The place wasn't too crowded. The staff was really nice. The food was okay. We ordered the beef noodle soup and the broth was not too flavorful. The beef wraps was okay. We got xlbs, which was pretty good. The knife cut noodles with chicken was okay. There was a lot of noodles and not very much meat. The most disappointing item was the chive pockets because they were tiny and burnt. This is a hole in the wall restaurant to be sure. We sat at the bar window seats as they were busy. It was a Wednesday night mind you. The revolving door was constant plus lots of take outs. Nevertheless our food came out hot and quick. The only waitress, most likely the owner was curt but she had her hands full. She is very efficient. We ordered chicken chow mein, not my usual go to but I really wanted those hand noodles. Boy do they make a difference! It wasn't just the noodles though, the sauce favors were perfect. I may have liked a little more veggies though. My husband had Spicy Szechwan beef noodle soup. He added 1/4 of the chili spice jar so I guess it wasn't spicy enough. The menu was humongous and we were scoping the plates of nearby diners to see what was good, as the staff wasn't very warm or seem like they were in the mood to answer a bunch of questions. We were a group of five and split the Shanghai chow mein, Eggplant, Pan fried dumplings, and General Tso's chicken. It was the perfect amount of food for us. The real standout was the chow mein -- you could really taste the difference with the hand-pulled noodles versus when you have a comparable dish from a restaurant that uses pre-made.
