I went here for the first time after hearing a lot about it, and I was in the city which is about 2 hours from where I live. They had some really amazing things to SEE but absolutely not to buy. I shop at a couple different MCM businesses and in comparison their prices were approx 50% higher than should be. For example one dansk ice bucket was priced at $350 at flower child and it goes regularly for 80-110 online. Other than that it's fun to look around, especially if you love vintage and cool home decor. When you're ready to buy, go elsewhere unless you absolutely love the piece because it will be at premium price. read more

It's a genuinely neat store! I came here a few days ago with friends and found something I immediately fell in love with. The price didn't bother me one bit, and the staff were super nice! I don't understand why people get so uppity about the price of items, all of these items are priced according to the period they come from and the condition they're in; of course you're going to see items in really good condition get pricier. If you want to see some high quality vintage furniture and clothing, this is the place to go! If you're looking to thrift, don't bother because this isn't that kind of store. read more

The new location is HUGE and way better. With more space and better organization, it feels less overwhelming and you're more likely to find something rather than having to "dig" through piles and racks. We came here purely to look at the mid century modern furniture so we didn't peruse through clothes and only briefly looked at some of the smaller decorative items. Prices here are a bit high, having shopped at other antique stores in Columbus and nearby cities. I'd definitely come back when I have more time blocked off, as there are so many cool old fashioned things in this store...you could spend an hour here easily at the very least. They have dish ware, records, decorative pieces, jewelry, men's and women's clothes, accessories, shoes, furniture, and other miscellaneous items from back in the day. There's only street parking and a small dirt gravel lot in the back that's not clearly labeled for the store. If you do park there, there's an entrance in the back to enter from, again not clearly marked...just looks like a door that only employees would enter through the back of a warehouse. read more

The hippy in me wanted desperately to get to Flower Child. How could he not? The allure of a hippy-themed second hand store in a town full of great second-hand stores to yours truly is hard to overstate. The Flower Child didn't quite live up to my lofty expectations but the hour or so I spent wandering around in awe of the extensive collection of clothing, housewares, furniture, toys, media and gewgaws was an hour well spent- if ultimately fruitless. It's not that I didn't find anything I wanted at Flower Child. Far from it. There were at least two retro lunchboxes that I desperately wish I had an excuse to buy, some old Nintendo hand-held games that I would have killed for in elementary school and some vintage books and postcards that were worth the cover price for the humor factor of their anachronicity. Unfortunately I wasn't in the mood to shop for basically useless items, but if you're looking for retro toys there's a case on Flower Child with your name on it. No, what I wanted to see were the men's clothes. In that regard I was mostly disappointed. The selection was pretty vast but none of it really caught my eye except for a single shirt that would probably be my favorite shirt if I owned it, but which was insanely expensive for my budget, approaching $100. It was a bitter defeat and I left sore. I never went back, as afraid to discover that I'd missed buying the shirt as I am to discover I still have the chance to blow all that cash on a single shirt. read more

What a neat place! I wasn't sure what to expect. it's a little bit of a maze but start at the top (either the left or the right), work your way down, and then go for the other side. Furniture, knick-knacks, magazines, records, art, clothing, and shoes can be found here. I was looking for cuff links. They had a nice variety and were very reasonably priced. New cuff links are $25 and up and kind of all look the same. Some of these were vintage and others were handcrafted at half the price. read more

If you love the seventies or the sixties or the fifties or even the eighties, you'll undoubtedly have a cosmic calling and head straight for Flower Child. This is one of the biggest stores in the Short North. There's a top floor with probably seven or eight rooms, and then there's an enormous basement with one large room and one small room. They have EVERYTHING you would ever remember seeing at your grandma's house. They have cups and hats and toys and prints and couches and Christmas ornaments and magazines and baby toys. Seriously, they have everything. It's a bit overwhelming when you look at it. And it's all organized from room to room as a house would be. There's an entryway, a living room, a kitchen, a bedroom, and, of course, a junk room. The owner, Joe, lives and breathes retro. He's really knowledgeable and will talk your ear off about the adventures of scavenging for throwback items if you'll let him. The window displays are usually good. The storefront is really elongated, so the Flower Child crew has plenty of space for creativity. The Christmas display that is currently up is pretty good. It definitely looks nice from the stoplight on Second Ave. There are two things outside that I can't stand. One is a wooden statue of a hippy. I think it looks so goofy. It's constantly getting knocked over and battered too. I think there must be other people out there who hate this thing as much as I do. The second thing is the bubble machine. While it's a clever concept, the bubble machine, which is right above the entryway is a nuisance. It spits out a constant stream of bubbles that blow in the wind and inevitably end up in my eyes or my mouth. Yuck. Some of the things they have are worthless. I have seen several high school ceramics projects there. But, for the most part, the wares are interesting and worth the trip. The prices are almost fair, just a bit too steep. The stock is always changing. Every time I go, I find something new. There is also a location in Cleveland. If you need a white elephant Christmas gift, I suggest Flower Child. The pricing and quality of items here baffles me. I love vintage/antique shopping and fully understand the markup of a unique item that isn't currently being mass produced, but this place is a bit out of touch. $3,200 for a waved wood desk, $800 for a cigarette burned side chair? The new space is a lot bigger, but it also seems to be more pricey than it was before. They have some really cool stuff (some of the dresses are just drop dead gorgeous new old stock) but they aren't cheap. While you probably won't find a bargin here, you will find a lot of really nice pieces. Staff was very friendly and helpful as well. read more

I really want to like Flower Child more. The concept is great - Vintage stuff stuffed to the ceilings. But that's part of the problem. I walk in and within 3 minutes, I'm too overwhelmed to continue looking. There's just so much stuff that unless you have hours, which sadly I don't, it all just starts to blend together. *sad face* Also, the last 2 times I've been there there has been bugs in the clothes in the basement. Have I seriously not reviewed this place yet? I freaking love Flower Child. It is all of the best goods you would find at a thrift store, but sans all the work of rummaging through the non interesting junk. The fun store windows are changed seasonally and are always very meticulously designed. The inside of this store is a lot larger than it looks from the outside. There are two levels that consist of rooms and rooms of great vintage finds. My favorite rooms include the kitchen wares room and the basement with all of the vintage dresses. Although obviously more expensive than what you'd find at a thrift store, the prices here are reasonable compared to the same stuff you'd find at a vintage store in a bigger city like NYC, San Fran, etc. My favorite thing to do is grab a bubble tea or tea beverage of some sort across the street at Zen Cha and then go peruse the amazingness of Flower Child for an hour or two. read more

If you are looking for vintage kitchenwares, this is your place! I've walked past this place for years thinking that it was mostly just furniture and clothes (which it has plenty of) but there are rooms stuffed full of kitchenwares that look like they came straight out of your grandma's kitchen -- Formica table tops, glassware, Pyrex, aluminum, and all! There's also a whole hallway full of owl things, which I thought was a little creepy, but if you're looking for owls, they've got plenty. I also saw a vintage poster of the Enterprise, Peanuts drinking glasses, and some awesome old lamps. There's an entire downstairs area full of clothing that I barely ventured into, since I'm more focused on furnishing my apartment right now, but I will keep this in mind for the next historically themed Yelp party! read more

The newly renovated warehouse is wonderful place to browse vintage clothing, furniture, home goods, jewelry and decor. What a great store. It is pretty overwhelming, with the enormous amount of stuff they have in the many rooms. They have a lot of vintage items I recognized from my childhood. I did wonder how they expect to sell the vintage clothing (lower level) at what I felt were high prices, but maybe there is quite the market for it. I would go back to browse some more. As far as vintage goes...this is where I go! A lot of thrift or "vintage" stores around here try to sell current styles or knockoffs and I find that annoying. If you want truly 30s-70s (?maybe they go up to 80s?), this is your place. Lots of rooms, prices vary, and friendly staff. While I can' really fit into many of the clothes (long dresses/skirts), I love their home decor. Definitely a great place to visit and right in the Short North. read more

UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATER SOURCE!!!! H. G. Wells would be proud. His novel The Time Machine and the movie that followed is in the same wheelhouse swing as Flower Child. My, oh my. This place seems a combination of "walking down Memory Lane" with that of Silence of the Lambs movie,...in a good way. The nooks, crannies, small display rooms, larger furniture and accoutrement rooms,.... fitting rooms, clothes that have been begged, borrowed and stolen. It's all natural for Flower Child. I heard and then saw a 2-foot high James Brown doll singing Christmas tunes. I purchased a Santa's cap, one that finally fit my big arss head (size 8) for under $9 and was happy. But I just guess the over, Over, OVER stocking of items that people trade-in, sell and then get recycled is overwhelming. A-OK is my rating only because I didn't find my Ugly Christmas Sweater. J/K of course. Look. Plain truth. If you want nostalgia to hook you into buying something your parents, aunt or uncle or even grandparent once owned (old radios and clocks were very cool but just retro looking) then you'll be a 4 or 5-star voter. As I waited to purchase my Santa's cap I watched as a seller as he haggled with the counter staff on some poly-shirts circa 1970...... and waited... and waited ... to watch a $19 transaction. I was visiting this fair city to see my inlaws and Flower-Child was a complete shock for me! Honestly, we weren't expecting much in the area and then we stumble upon Flower Child and everything has changed! The selection is so great that you need at least half an hour to wonder all the rooms and the basement. Some things are pricey, whilst others are a bargain! They have clothes, accessories, sheets, glassware, furniture, books, toys, media, and the list goes on! My brother in law snagged a pair of new-looking, vintage boots for $24....you can't beat that! If I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely be coming back! read more

You'll be able to spot Flower Child if you're driving around in the Short North by the bell bottom clad hippie statue in front of the store. The store is split into two levels, with the ground floor as a showcase of orange, green, and purple furniture from the 60's and 70's. Coffee tables, lamps, vases, and posters are set up in the individual rooms so you can gaze at the perfect collection of kitsch if you pocket book could afford it. There's a room full of kitchen ware including all the collectible drinking glasses from the past few decades. The basement offers Men's and Women's clothing as well as barware with the stairs lined with ice buckets from across time. Mothballs and a slight moldy stench encompasses the basement but don't let that keep you from the find of the century. You'll find there are some discrepancies as far as pricing. I found a great dress for only $18, but my boyfriend had to turn down a fantastic cowboy shift that was priced at $48. No doubt you'll be able to find some fantastic clothing or home decor, but be prepared to open up your pocketbook nice and wide. read more

Flower Child is great. They have a TON of items and it's easily the best organized vintage store I've been in. Items are organized by era and product type which makes finding items you'll like way easier than a normal store where everything is just thrown together randomly in piles. The prices are a bit inflated but what you're paying for is a clean, organized store that's easy to pick through based on product-type. Normally it's unreasonable to go into a thrift/vintage store expecting to find a specific item but here I'd say it's definitely more plausible than most places. I went in specifically looking for a weird small ceramic cat and I found one on a wall specifically designated for ceramic animals. Will definitely return. read more

"This store just keeps going and going!" I exclaimed to my friend as we wandered through room after room of Flower Child. Upstairs, downstairs, back room, next door... this shop is bursting at the seams with vintage goodness. It's like a museum of fashion and household items! Of the many rooms, each is organized by theme and era: 1960s, 1970s, or 1980s. The downstairs is hemorrhaging with women's fashions from day-to-day skirts and dresses to old bridesmaid and prom gowns, aprons, shoes, handbags, belt buckles, luggage, nighties and petticoats, panty hose, cowboy boots, hats, swim suits, eyeglasses, jewelry. It's the most extensive selection of vintage wear I've ever seen! The upstairs contains oodles of household goods from tables and chairs to 1960s dishsets and appliances, rotary and corded phones, Elvis lamps, record players, old video and photography cameras... if it existed in yesteryear, it's here! You'll also find that a lot of the clothing is actually homemade, meaning it will stay together and last longer than most new vintagewear in a chain store. Heck, it's already been around 40 years and still looks brand new! I bought two skirts ($8.00 each), a polka dot halter dress, and a pinstripe dress ($22.00 each). It's like the brick-and-mortar version of ModCloth, but with items half of the price! A thorough browse and trying on took about 90 minutes; you can and will lose track of time here. I literally felt like I was in my grandparents' basement circa 1969 or in my dad's bedroom circa 1976 when walking into Flower Child and rummaging around their endless selection of vintage goods. Don't be fooled by its tiny storefront; Flower Child is a literal maze of rooms. Just when you think that you've seen it all, you discover another nook or cranny that you hadn't yet looked in. It's like the Book Loft of vintage stores. I went into Flower Child with no real goal in mind, but I walked out with a couple of snazzy gifts, a few ideas of future purchases to decorate my living room (some of those things still look modern, and you know you can't find anywhere else), and even a couple of accessories for my Halloween costume. There is everything here from clothes to toys to furniture to lighting to jewelry to decorations to kitchen ware: you name it! The majority of it comes straight from the 60s and 70s, and even some from the 80s. I did, however, spot some Spongebob items with the toys which means there are some 90s items scattered about as well. However, that was just a couple of items amongst the literal 10,000 items in the store. Belts, ties, ashtrays, whiskey glasses, vases, tables, boardgames, records, books, Christmas decorations, cameras, eyeglasses...you name it! Because there is such an enormous variety of items, the prices vary enormously as well. However, I'd say the items are priced very reasonably, being that they are hard-to-find vintage items in rather good condition. It really makes me wonder where it all came from and what stories some of these items hold. I would have loved to have stayed for much longer, but, I had money in a parking meter and it was about to expire! Be prepared to spend AT LEAST a half an hour in this store. You won't want to pop in and pop out; you'll want to divulge into each pile of jackets, every stack of magazines, and every shelf of knick knacks. If you are a product of parents from the 60s and 70s, you will have a keen appreciation of all that is Flower Child. read more

Finding Flower Child a few blocks from my apartment was a taste of home, a dream come true. The Cleveland Flower Child was one of my favorite places to wander and dream and play; to try on hats from another era (and often buy them). I was so excited to see the playfulness of the original store maintained here. There's quirky little vignettes of furniture and housewares set up all around the shop, depicting a lifestyle that for many was and is more of an interesting idea than reality. Cheeky jet-setting 60s types with an Austin Powers pad, dressing in go-go boots and minidresses. Tiki paradise for kitchens and dining rooms. It is every fad of a bygone era. It's hard not to fall in love with the exuberant presentation. This store is a little less packed to the gills than their Cleveland companion. The Cleveland sister store is so packed (not necessarily in a bad way). You could scour the place seven days a week and still find new treasures that had been buried by other items. You can spend hours in both stores, to be certain, but I feel more room to breathe and take in everything at this location. There's still a ton of items, but more room to think and admire. Most of my energies are devoted to the jewelry cases, and this store does not disappoint. Though my budget is extremely tight right now, I could not walk out of Flower Child without two pairs of rhinestone earrings. As a clip-on aficionado, I am always looking for simple stunners. I found a wacky clear crystal pair with a quirky geometric arrangement for only $7.50. The stones are glued in, not prong set, which explains the price, but they were a fun purchase. I also picked up a set of round pale green rhinestone earrings with an aurora borealis finish. They are in great condition and potentially my new favorite pair! The only downside to this store will be the drain on my wallet. I will have to exert quite a bit of willpower to stay away, but knowing that I can pop in for a cute pair of sparklers when I need a sartorial pick-me-up is such a comfort as I adjust to a new city! read more

Stumbled in here while shopping and eating on High St. IT IS AMAZING. I live in Austin and I find that almost everything is over priced. Was so thrilled to be able to find a great vintage store where things were in such good condition and reasonably priced. If I had a moving truck I would have moved so many more great pieces back to Austin. Instead, I lugged around a chandelier. It's funny because I walked into the store 2 times in one day and the ladies working were super friendly but they were probably thinking..'is this chick going to buy anything?' 3rd time I walked in and bought the chandelier that I absolutely loved. Couldn't be more thrilled. Getting a chandelier from Ohio to Austin is another task...but the ladies there graciously wrapped up every glass light and found a box for everything for me. I didn't get it shipped but I did get it picked up and everything was in tact when I got it back to my house. Bonus is after my dad and I hung it up, we found that it had a knob that adjusted the lights so that you could have only 3 lights on (there are a total of 8) the top tier on, 5 lights at the bottom tier on, or all 8 lights on. Making it super helpful in setting the mood. I honestly love it! Makes my place look so chic! read more

The biggest vintage shop I've seen around Columbus. There is literally something for everyone. I could spend hours browsing the racks of terrible prom dresses from the 1980s, some even from the 1950s! Try them on and take pictures, they don't mind. I've asked them to take my picture in these seriously hideous (but so fun!) dresses. They also have an array of jewelry, furniture, kitchen ware, vintage telephones, vintage art, etc. You will not be disappointed. Choose among hundreds of vintage ashtrays and lamps! (You love lamp, too??) Parking is pretty convenient, they have a public parking lot next to the building (up to a 3 hour limit, bring your quarters). In a great area, within walking distance of many other boutiques and restaurants. read more

This is a pretty amazing place, filled to the brim with retro clothing, furniture, kitchen stuff, and trinkets--largely from the 60s and 70s but also from the 20s - 80s. It's no thrift store -- the sellers know how cool their stuff is, and price it accordingly -- but it's not terribly overpriced either. And it's an amazing place to shop. Someone spent hour upon hour scouring thrift stores to collect all the prime '60s and '70s nuggets found here. However, it doesn't change the fact that so much from those eras was tacky as hell. I prefer a bit more variety. Nearly everything here plays up the kitsch factor. A tiki room? Ew. The vintage clothing section in the basement is impressive but uninspiring. This isn't your grandmother's antique shop! It is more like your mothers...the stuff is super fun and retro complete with kitchen trinkets in wild colors, shag rugs, vintage furniture and so much more! I decided to stop by here on a whim and fell in love. This store is definitely an experience and it may not be fore everyone. I was so obsessed with how the store was layed out, it felt like i had gone back in time to a hoarders house...but a neat hoarders house. There was just so much odd and cool stuff. Each room has a theme and they are all filled with great vintage finds. I didnt really find anything that I wanted to buy, but the experience of the store was so worth stopping in and checking out. I went in because of a tip about some fabulous Christmas sweater (cats on sleds)... and while I couldn't find the sledding cats sweater, I did find the perfect one and a bunch of other stuff. There is so much stuff here to explore. Just the Christmas rooms alone were vortexes of nostalgia... I mean, I found the same chip art snowman wall hanging that my Parents used to hang on our front door. Flower let me down a little bit when I went in. the whole time I was walking through I kept thinking about how much like the Book Loft it is, except full of old junk instead of books. Downstairs is where they hide all the clothes, but this is some real retro crap. I can't imagine walking into someone's place who has decorated the entire joint with stuff from Flower Child and thinking that it looked good. Upstairs every room has a different theme and some of the stuff seems to go together a little better. I found the kitchen area amazing. Never in my life have I seen so many kitchens worth of utensils in the same place. Entire sets of green, yellow, red, blue and all sorts of colors of full dish sets, all sitting in a room on top of old stoves and appliances. I posed the question to the group I was with - "How many kitchens worth of crap do you think are in this one room?" - to which the replies ranged anywhere from 12 to 20 kitchens worth of junk. One of the other rooms upstairs had a sign over the doorway that said "rent this room." Seeing how the room was set up like a bedroom with some cool early '90's style furniture I though at first that some poor soul was going to try to rent it as a bedroom, but quickly realized Flower Child must be some sort of consignment shop. I can see how some people love it, but I certainly didn't see anything in there that I just couldn't live without. read more
