I consider myself somewhat of a dumpling snob, and without a doubt the soup dumplings I had here were the best I've ever eaten at a restaurant, hands down. SO GOOD. We also had the sweet and sour sweet potato noodles and the Dan Dan noodles. The soups were both delicious but I liked the sweet potato noodles a little better. It's rare in a town like Boulder to find a restaurant that is actually something original. Add actually being good to that and it's pretty much a unicorn. So, here, my friends, is a unicorn restaurant. The food is homestyle Chinese. No deep fried orange food items, but great soups, noodles, and other homemade dishes. I have gotten their wonton noodle soup (don't even think it's like regular Chinese restaurant version) a couple of times. Also, any dish with pork belly is amazing! The veggies in dishes have seemed fresh and not overly cooked. The Dan Dan Noodles were great too! If you can go on Tuesday, they have "Chinese Crepes" which are really really good! But only Tuesdays. This place is small, and has the vibe of a take out counter, but there are some places to sit and the coziness adds to the vibe for me. Don't go expecting to seat a table of six, but there are a few small tables and a lunch bar to look out over beautiful Broadway (facing east, so I'm kidding about the views). This place is run by a husband and wife and their family. Go get it Boulder. Good eats for that day when you want something different. If you need a quick Asian fix, this restaurant will certainly do. The eatery is in a tight space, but the food is served fast and there definitely seems to be a lunch "rush". Love love absolutely love their food!! The ramen is warm, full of flavor, and made fresh right as you order. My favorite of all time is the sweet and sour pork ramen! Noodles are steamed and cooked fresh along with the preparation of the ramen! My only problem is that they add too many peanuts to their dishes that it takes away from the flavor. I was hopeful based upon yelp reviews..... I was even more encouraged when I saw that this was a small "hole in the wall" type place (those are he best ones usually). It was good, and likely authentic, but it was lacking any kind of distinct flavour. I ordered the Dan Dan Noodles extra spicy - what I got was bowl of noodles with a few pieces of bok choy swimming in a chili oil broth. So much oil that the broth was made inedible. Since coming back to the U.S. from China a few months ago, I've been craving some particular dishes and flavors that are just nearly impossible to find here, especially in Boulder. Flower Pepper has the best and most authentic dishes I've found here - spicy, sour, salty and amazing. We had 4 dishes and finished them all! The prices are really reasonable and the staff is great. The owner is a renowned chef in China who ran one of Beijing's most popular Yunnan food restaurants for many years. We are lucky to have him! Couldn't recommend more highly! Just got two meals from this restaurant. It's awful. Won Ton soup neither looks nor tastes like anything I've had. I couldn't even eat it. My spare rib noodle dish didn't have any ribs in it, just about 8-10 small pieces of meat. The shredded chicken salad has about a wings worth of chicken in it. Never again! read more

OMG this place is so awesome! You will want to visit if you want to try some authentic chinese dishes from different parts of China not seen on typical menus! Kind of a cool vibe inside (but small) and there is free parking right behind the restaurant in a covered parking garage for those insanely hot/cold days!! We ordered the xiao long bao (a fave of mine and not had since 2010), the Dan Dan noodles and Beijing Zhajiang noodles. The bao was hot and soupy as it should be with some julienne ginger that was knock your socks off "ginger-y". Dan Dan was like comfort food that you cant get enough of and the Zhajiang noodles were new to both of us and we were struck by how fresh it tasted. the proprietor is looking into opening another outpost and we shamelessly asked her to open in Denver next to our neighborhood. Until then, 45 min drive it is but it will be OH so worth it!! read more

Quite good, authentic, affordable, albeit oily Chinese. They have a $10 off coupon for first time GrubHub users if you order $15 worth of food, by 2/28/16 I think. The dumplings are a must - they are house made and you just can't get that taste from frozen store bought dumplings. Cucumber salad, bok choy, xiao long bao, and potato noodles are fantastic. (Noodle soups are great for cold weather in general!) Try the herbal tea (red can with yellow letters) and the green tea (green plastic bottle, white cap), both with Chinese letters. It doesn't get more genuine than that. Taiwan beef noodles, mapo tofu and mouthwatering chicken are just okay. Chris is super friendly and interesting. Ask him about living in Germany, or anything else, really. I think if they played some music it would greatly improve the atmosphere; otherwise, the soundtrack to your meal is composed of the smacks of other diners' lips and some ominous machinery humming in the back. read more

I really must have a soft spot for the tiny places where there is literally only room for the kitchen and a row of seats. Reminds me of a thai spot in Jackson that used to have this kind of awesomeness. I got some kind of cubed beef and vegetable noodle dish. It was awesome. I couldn't tell you what the dish was called now, as it appears the menu changes from time to time. I also got a side of the tiger food, spicy, crisp, vegetables. Yep those were awesome as well. Ordered in and two of the dishes were flavorless. One of those two had so little meat or vegetables on if, was mostly sauce and rice (braised spare rib). Flavor on mouth watering chicken was great though chicken was dry and chewy. The Peking duck rolls were wrapped in flour tortillas instead of rice paper and so most of what you tasted was the wrapper. Redeeming dish of the night were the jia zhang noodles, which had pretty good flavor even if they don't travel well for delivery. Overall disappointing meal. read more

Wow. What a find. Tiny hole in the wall (don't plan on eating in) that packs in a ridiculous amount of flavor into each dish. And it's all traditional home cooked Chinese...nothing even remotely Americanized. The braised beef noodles are unreal. The broth is rich, the noodles perfectly cooked and the beef comes in big chunks to start, but is so tender that it easily shreds apart in the bowl so that you can have meat in every bite. Also try the cucumber salad (that comes soaking in a refreshing soy and ginger dressing) and the soup dumplings (best I've had). read more

Beyond amazing. Their food is authentic, honest and the broth is to die for. I think he broth is the key to their success. Get a dumpling soup and you want to ask for double for the broth. The dumplings are so delicious as well. We got a nice meal today, both got the dumpling noodle soup and got an order of cucumber salad. It's not any ordinary cucumber salad, but it comes in the most delicious broth, spices and firm cucumbers. Can't beat it. We are in the process of moving back to Arizona where we have amazing Asian food but we will miss this place a lot. I went to this restaurant based on seemingly good reviews. I could not have been more disappointed. The waitress behind the register was less than friendly and the food seemed nothing more than microwaved chicken in a bland tasteless sauce. I ordered the sesame chicken and it was a bowl of noodles with microwaved, tough chicken on top with shredded carrots and a white sauce with no flavor on the bottom. I also ordered the cucumber salad appetizer which was under ripe cucumber overly seasoned and a cup of tea with a tea bag thrown in a small plastic cup...and not cheap at that! I grew up in Taipei Taiwan and their braised pork rice is at par to the street food I grew up eating. Probably adding a little pickled vegetable would make it more authentic. Compared to Zoe Ma Ma, they have more menu selection in terms of dumplings and side dishes. Parking is also free so that's another plus. Will come back and try their soup dumplings and other dishes to update my review. 3/5/16 - came back today and tried the Dan Dan noodles, cucumber salad, spare rib rice and xiao long bao. I'm from out of town so this rating doesn't reflect how it compares to other Chinese restaurant in town. I ordered pork belly rice and steaming Xiao Long bum. Xiao Long bum tastes like the best frozen ones you can get from supermarket. And it's warm to cold when i tasted it. Pro belly rice is overall genuine but a bit too salty and could use more soil sauce and sugar. It's debatable between 3 and 4 stars but I feel a bit more towards disappointed than satisfied so decided to give 3 stars. read more

Fresh tasting food, good flavours but very very skimpy on protein and produce. Wonton soup was delicious but the broth far too oily and greasy to eat - had to just pluck out the wontons. Chicken sesame noodles were again delicious and fresh but I honestly got ONE piece of thumb-sized chicken. Pretty shocking considering I ordered chicken - i would not recommend that meal as it will not fill you. Dan Dan noodles were the best of the bunch but again, the amount of pork in the broth could have been more, and there was a half piece of bok choy thrown on top. The Peking duck rolls I got for my partner and he took a bite and spat it straight into the trash (he mostly eats anything you put in front of him) Maybe if you're just looking for noodles with not a lot of vegetables or protein then this is the place for you.
