After being told by many local friends this is a good place for Take-Out. So we orders Hot/Sour Soup, & Wonton Soup the Soups were OK? And also ordered Kung Pow Chicken and Pork Fried Rice. Both VERY DISAPPOINTING. Texture was good but NO FLAVOR Zero Kung Pow 0 heat just frustrates me to Spend $50 and subpar BLAH food. We will not be going back. read more

Working in Boulder came across this place. Is nice and clean and the Staff was so helpful. Especially the owner Joy she is super nice! Got the Beef with Veg with fried rice and an egg roll. We ordered food to go for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. His family has been coming to this restaurant in Boulder for years and years and years. I ordered the chicken coconut curry, which I found to be superb. My boyfriend had orange chicken, which was much spicier this time than it normally is, so unfortunately, he could not finish his meal. We also ordered eggrolls, ribs, beef, and everything was pretty good. The menu here is VERY LARGE. It's available for both lunch and dinner. It has Starters, Soups, Noodles, Rice, Seafood, Poultry, Fish, Pork and Beef. It is very authentic in it's delicious food offerings. The service is fast and friendly. When you walk in you read the menu, the Team takes your order and your name. Once prepared your name is called and you receive your food and you take it to your table. The inside eating area is large for the size of the restaurant and the outside eating area offers a view of the Rockies. Great food, awesome service in a very comfortable environment. I ordered shrimp and lobster sauce to go and when I got home (which is 45 mins away) I saw there were mushrooms in it. I am allergic to mushrooms and the menu does not state there are mushrooms in it. So I called them and told them and they said they would refund me. 3 days later still no refund. I callled them and they said they had refunded it but it takes a couple of days. Not true because refunds don't take that long anymore. And I did give sufficient time for the refund. When I called them to confirm they had done the refund he hung up on me. This is the owner. I have been going there for many years (when I am in Boulder like I said I live 45 kinda from there) I don't recall mushrooms being in this dish but I'm also not going remember who does and does not use mushrooms. So I need the menu to tell me the ingredients. I will never go there again. What an a hole. read more

Decent timing for a delivery order! Came earlier than expected, which is always welcome. I ordered sesame chicken, white rice. I appreciated the tang of the sauce and the contrast of the white rice, the generous portion of sesame chicken. Reasons why "only" 3/5 stars: pic showed broccoli/veggies, but it didn't come with any; was tasty but overall I'd describe it as average. Yum!!! Hot & Sour soup followed with Twice Fried Pork with fried rice upgrade (+ $1). Ate inside. Only 4 stars due to fired rice. Expected more egg and frying - perhaps personal preference. Hot & Sour was perfect temperature and flavor balance. Great standard starter. Twice fried pork was deliciously crispy without being too chewy. Onions and green peppers were super fresh and lightly cooked. Sauce was sublime. Casual, intimate dining. Order then counter pickup. Jug of lemon water, utensils, seasoning. Very clean. I went yesterday with my brother, my 16YO grandniece and her 14/15YO best friend. Teenagers being fussy eaters, we elected to order off the menu instead of the chef special dinner (although that meal looks fabulous), I did order the Hong Kong crispy fish and it was SUPERB! We also ordered a to go order for another four members of my family. We ordered A LOT of food and it was about the same price per head as the special although they was a coincidence. We were extremely pleased with. Our meals. I tipped 20% because they were just so nice and the food was so good. Our sole complaint was that there was an account on the interstate road we took part of the way, near the Vasquez exit and traffic leading up to it creeped along extremely slowly. Our 46 minute drive actually took about 90 minutes because of it. But I always allow extra time and we still got there early enough that our order did not interfere with service of the special. People crawled in at different times, likely due to the traffic issues on the interstate. It was a pretty full house. It seemed like all reserved spaces got filled. We definitely would return. P.S. this is largely a casual dining restaurant where you normally pay upfront and they do a lot of to go orders. read more

This is by far the best Chinese restaurant I have eaten at in the Boulder area. Every time the food is fresh, the vegetables, crisp, the portions generous, and the staff is great. If you are looking for a formal, sit down restaurant, this is slightly different. You order at the counter and they call your name when your food is ready. But it is served in beautiful dishes and easy to take to your table. Don't let that stop you; try it today! PS. If you are vegetarian, make sure to ask for all dishes, including vegetable dishes, to be ordered vegetarian, otherwise they are made with chicken broth. read more

Love the takeout typically but the amount they give you has decreased drastically, and it's no longer worth the price unfortunately. Hardly any sesame chicken anymore, not enough for 2. This is my favorite, family owned Chinese restaurant in Boulder. I've been coming here since I was 8, and now, 14 years later, the food is as tasty as ever. I highly recommend the fried chicken wings to get your taste buds warmed up! My family usually gets the West Lake Chinese Soup, spicy beef tendon, any dish with Yu Shang sauce, and the fried rice. Their Shanghai menu is quite extensive! The portions are huge, so you'll have yummy leftovers for the next day. The food here is pretty darn authentic for those culturally picky eaters out there. The same family also owns Shanghai out in Louisville. The food here is arguably has an older, traditional flavor that I personally adore. Best in Boulder -Chinese- in my opinion, Boulder severely lacks in decent Chinese. China Gourmet is the best you're going to find here. We had mu shu veggies w/tofu, Kung Pao Chicken and veggie egg rolls. The egg rolls were horribly lacking in any quantity of filling. Both entrees were delicious and ample size servings. China Gourmet is our local Chinese restaurant. I usually enjoy the miso soup and the orange chicken. The eggplant with hot garlic sauce can be good, but sometimes it can also be bland. Consistency is not always a thing at this restaurant. The most important thing that I look for in a Chinese restaurant is that they never poison people who have shellfish allergies. China Gourmet is a restaurant we keep going back to - the food is fresh and delicious. We live in South Boulder, and the drive to the other end of town is worth it. They are gracious with making things vegan, and so it works for everyone in our family. I appreciate that there are a variety of vegetables in the vegetable dishes with different colors and textures. They have decent food with good (but not organic) ingredients. Meh, some fine dishes and some weak ones. Like the Americanized Chinese of my youth, and only a middling execution. General's Chicken was quite reasonable. White rice as well. The dumplings were the weakest of our order --- dried-out filling, and overly floury dough. Several other dishes (Vegetarian Delight, Singapore noodles, Beef & Broccoli) ranged between forgettable and poor; most were pretty oily, and the Singapore noodles were surprisingly tough, though flavorful. We were looking for basic, workaday Chinese food... and this didn't hit our bar. I'd probably only get the General's chicken again. read more

I had the General Tso's chicken delivered. It was probably the best I've had in Boulder. The sauce started to get that jelly consistency as it cooled, which I always find a bit gross, but maybe there is no avoiding that. The portions were generous, including the amount of broccoli. CASH ONLY! This place is owned by a Taiwanese family and has Chinese/Taiwanese Chefs, they also own Spice China in Louisville. Great food at great prices for Boulder, this place has yummy food with white or brown rice as your rice choices. Not many Chinese restaurant like this would offer brown rice option, only in Boulder. :) Took away a star because I hate places that cattle call people. This place is no exception. You place the order at the counter, find your own seat and get your own water. When your food is ready, someone would hollar your name really loud on the intercom. I rather you have a numbering system... maybe I'm just picky but if you called 'Number 7 please' sounds better to me than "Se-ra! Se-ra!!!" (That's Sara with an accent.) Good thing they don't make you bus your own tables. My favorite thing is no longer on the menu, so if you go you should asked them about Basil eggplant with tomato dish. My goal is to have enough people ask for it that they make it part of their regular menu. It has basil, chicken, eggplant and tomatoes in it and it's one of the best dishes I have ever gotten here. Soooooo delicious! *drool* You have to try the chicken wings, fried extra crispy. Get some hot chili oil and mix it with soy sauce on a separate plate and use it as a dipping sauce. Be careful not to burn your mouth cuz that's happened to me a few times. The wings were very tasty and I always ordered those when I come here as an appetizer. I really enjoy their mongolian beef dish and also lately they have this shrimp asparagus special that I really love as well.
