I always enjoy coming here to work, meet people, or enjoy a treat. That being said, today was a little confusing upon walking in. I wasn't sure if I should order at the counter, wait to be seated, or just seat myself. I think the menu changes have been a little too much. Where there used to be affordable lighter sandwiches for lunch like chicken salad or deli sandwiches, everything seems off balance and over the top now and menu descriptions are not accurate. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which just says grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato, sauteed onions, and pepper jack cheese with a chipotle aioli. When my food arrived and I took a bite of the chicken sandwich, the chicken was covered in so much blackening seasoning that it was really spicy and extremely too salty. The fries were covered in too much salty seasoning too and this is not good for anyone that might have blood pressure issues. It took a while for a waiter to come take my order which I was understanding of but something worth noting. I think the lunch menu needs to be more balanced with lunch like items versus lobster mac and brisket and shrimp and grits. Bring back some items like sandwiches and it could be way better. Also, the smoothies leave a little to be desired. They are overly sweet and just a concentrate mixed with ice in a blender. My family and I chose this place due to its high ratings on various websites - both Google and Yelp. The place looked beautiful on the outside. When my family and I went to sit down outside, we had to wait 30 minutes before the waiter even showed up to work, mind you, we got there at 0830hrs and had to wait until 0900hrs for the waiter. That was fine. We get that things happen, so we went inside to order our beverages and brought them out to sip on until the waiter arrived. No one else was capable of taking our order at the establishment. When the waiter arrived, he apologized for taking time, and took our order. When our food arrived, everything was cold (we all ordered hot food). We also had to go back inside ourselves to get silverware because there was none brought out to us. Also, if you ask for any type of deviation from their intended menu, like swapping toast for a biscuit, they will not do that. I guess it's a good thing they wouldn't allow swapping because the biscuit my aunt got was burnt and hard for her biscuit and egg sandwich. To not, the women's bathroom was absolutely disgusting and dirty and never looked like anyone took the time to take care of it as there was dust and dirt in every crevice. read more

Talk about a quaint coffee shop...this place is really cool! It's a converted home that has tables, TVs and even games in each room to just come and chill out with your treats! Came by on a cold rainy day with 2 teenagers, and we enjoyed Cotton Candy Frappes and played a game of checkers. They also have a selection of baked treats, and a few sandwiches in the display case. They also have ice cream, and frozen yogurt from what I saw. Parking is plentiful beside the building, and on a warmer/sunnier day you can sit outside on the picnic tables and watch the river. So the house is really pretty cool and comfortable. The coffee is above average with good prices. The real problem is a serious lack of customer service here. It seemed like the end of a long shift or general distaste of the job. I certainly didn't want to bother them with questions about the sweets in the case so they missed out on some additional sales. The FoxNews taking up the living room was also something to that seemed a bit off for a coffee shop. read more

My husband and I are still on the hunt for the best ice cream in Charlotte. So far we've had pretty good ones! We've been going to Goat Island for a long time and always passed by this place, however we never stopped until yesterday. We finally decided to try them out, the weather was just perfect and we had a sweet tooth so why not, right? Besides ice cream they have some pastries, coffee, teas ..... I had banana pudding on a waffle cone and my husband had mint chocolate chip. We both LOVED our treat to ourselves. The banana pudding ice cream was simply divine and the best part is the price, the ice cream is really cheap comparing to other ice cream places and so delicious! Today we were at the park again and was really hard not getting ice cream. After all what is the point of working out and eating sugar right after? Cool and kitschy little cafe on the river walk right in downtown Cramerton - the quintessential American town. This shop is almost unexpected here but at the same time a perfect fit. Inside there's more than meets the eye. Seating is spread throughout, including some specially named rooms going towards the back of the building that seem like they could serve as private study rooms. There's even a huge comfy couch. A cork board boasts all the local events and services - just the kind of stuff you'd expect to find at a local hangout like this. But perhaps most importantly (to me at least) this place will rent you a kayak or canoe to make a day of a trip down the river. It flows slow enough that you don't even have to worry about getting carried off in the current. I gotta come back some time, if anything just to sit around in here and read or write. read more

I used to love this place and they do have excellent coffee, ice cream and baked goods. The reason for a 3 and not higher is twofold. 1) it is unpleasant to sit inside with fox news blasting on the TV. I know, don't sit insode. And i don't. But it does mean that when it's 95 degrees outside, i just go elsewhere since i don't want to hear screaming opinions. I go to the coffee shop to relax and get away from such things. 2) i have an immunocompromised parent who, prior to vaccination, was at high risk from covid. I have to be very careful about being a carrier. When the mask mandate was in place F&B was crawling full of maskless faces and too close for comfort distances. So despite that they have a good product, there were safer alternatives that offered drive through and curbside pickup at the time. So i chose to go elsewhere not because i don't like the product, not because i have any beef with them per se, but because i didn't feel welcomed and safe. And now, i've just gotten used to my other options. I just can't feel the same way I once did, but i wish them well. read more

This is a wonderful establishment and I finally got to go check it out. The coffee is wonderful and the service is even better. Everyone greets you with a smile. The sweet barista even made my daughter a steamed almond milk and used some chocolate to create her a smiley face on top which made her so giddy. Visiting for the Christmas Town lights! This was a super cute bakery. I'll be honest, I only needed to use the restroom which are for paying guests only. I bought a cider and hot chocolate. WOW did they have smooth holiday flavors! Sometimes the cider has too much cinnamon or a hot chocolate is to watery but this bakery got it just right in my opinion. After relocating to North Carolina I had a hard time finding a quiet place to work outside of my home. My neighbor introduced me to this place. Not only is the coffee strong and delicious, but it's the perfect spot to get in the zone. The owner of the shop is there often and he is ALWAYS so nice. He takes the time to get to know his customers and often calls them by their name. They also serve breakfast sandwiches (I had the sausage, egg and cheese croissant) and they are by far the best ever! I love everything about this place! read more

I've been a regular customer for years and always loved it. The baristas are so nice and they recently moved into a new building that is beautiful with a gorgeous deck out front. The past few times we have been, the bakery selections are very minimal. They used to have wonderful big slices of home made cakes but lately there is none. Normally, I like to visit a place at least twice before I review it. Because I live two hours away, I don't know when I will practically get a chance to visit again, so here's my opinion based on my current visit. This place really rocks, with the locals using F&B's as sort of a community center. Serendipitously, F&B's was established before the local governments established Goat Island Park, a beautiful pedestrian friendly park, just over the footbridge over the South Fork of the Catawba River. Some people complain about skeeters (this is NC, after al), but they're not noticeable, now that the weather has cooled. I am REALLY attracted by the great little private rooms, well, semi-private (they have no doors) that offer cozy options, while being open to the rest of the shop. The wide variety of sturdy furniture is a welcome indicator of the robustness of the place, and the owners' approach to business. A well-planned business, that keeps it customers happy, as evidenced by the amount of traffic. The rest room is super tiny, a reminder of the days before the business was a modern coffee house, though it is functional. F&B's has a nice selection of ice cream, baked goods, and beverages, pretty creative, given the modest size of the space. The other reviews here describe the offerings better than I can, but there are plenty of offerings here, enough that you could visit here every day for a month, and not have the same thing twice. And then, they have seasonal specials, too. I am impressed by the friendly, knowledgable, and quick staff, people who listen closely and take you seriously. The manager is a certified I.A.S.C. Barista, who is well traveled, and takes his job quite seriously, while leading his staff in a friendly and appropriate fashion. If I had a coffee shop, I would want him to run the place. As a customer, he is equally impressive, offering suggestions and interacting well with me. I overheard him empathize with another customer, "Yes ma'am, sometimes I feel your pain." I like this guy. Yeah, I will look for Floyd & Blackie's, next time I'm in this area. read more

Cool vibe, decent coffee, but the one girl working the counter had no idea what she was doing. Also, the bathroom isn't handicapped accessible. Will make this review pretty straight forward. I asked if they had milk substitute. She said no. The person behind me asked for almond milk, all of a sudden she had some. I had already used half and half and asked why she didn't tell me they had almond milk. She said I should have asked. Apparently, she didn't know what milk substitute meant. They weren't that busy, but this same solo employee had quite a crew of friends come by to bring food, eat ice cream, and hang out. I stopped in to warm up with hot coffee or after viewing Christmas lights. The parking lot was easy to access and large enough to accommodate the amount of customers. The batista greeted me immediately, was friendly, and pointed me in the direction of the sugar free flavors menu. I was delighted at the selection of SF flavors. I enjoy the heck outta this place. When my wife and I are out and about on our date nights we almost always end up here at some point. I love that it is clearly an older house converted to a coffee shop. One of the things that always gets me is the tiny bathroom, it reminds me of my grandparents house growing up. I know that has nothing to do with anything but I like it. It hits me in the nostalgia. I think the coffee selection is pretty good and the service is always fast and friendly. I really like the cozy feel to the place. They have bar seating but also several tables that are true kitchen tables. You really get the vibe you're in someone's house, it's cool. As I'm re-reading that, it sounds creepy. It's not, it's cool. Not creepy. Whewboy, now this review is me trying hard to make this place not sound like a haunted house. Jesus, why would I even say that? This place is great...not haunted. Having said that, we usually have our drinks outside, because that one time my wife walked through a cold spot and said "I think I just walked through a ghost". The outdoor seating is nice and you're just a stone's throw from the river and goat island park, so that's nice. It's probably not haunted. read more
