I was so excited when my sister and I found this boutique. We both bought several items, and I purchased a ring for $334 after taxes. The customer service was great--until I needed help. Four days after purchasing the ring, the stone fell out during normal wear. A ring at that price should last much longer than four days. At that point, I no longer trusted the quality of their jewelry, which is why I requested a refund, not an exchange. Why would I exchange it for another ring if I had already lost confidence in their products? Instead of taking accountability, I was given the runaround. I was told people were on vacation and someone would call me when they returned. They're all back now, and I still haven't received a single phone call. When I told them my bank advised me to return the ring as part of the dispute process, they began closing the store earlier than their posted hours, making it impossible for me to return it after work. Then they told me they would never accept the ring back, that "that's not how banks work," and that I would never win my dispute. The employee I spoke with was incredibly dismissive and even implied that because I didn't buy an expensive ring, I shouldn't expect more. $334 is not cheap, and no customer should be made to feel like they're asking too much when a product breaks after only four days. I was also told their stones are not glued in, yet when mine fell out there was clearly adhesive on the setting. Rather than acknowledging a possible defect, they denied responsibility. The broken ring was disappointing, but the way I was treated was worse. A business should stand behind its products and treat customers with respect. Why have I not stopped here before??? A little bee caught my eye and I had to stop on and I was almost bedazzled by all the gorgeous handmade bespoke jewelry here. The salesperson was helpful and brought out the bees and other insects. I paired my bee pendant the last large one with oxidized silver black pendant it's a rather cool look and I don't have any of this at home yet. I also held this breathtaking amber and honeycomb necklace wowzer I didn't dare put it on I didn't think I would be willing to take it off! Lovely selection! I spotted so many items I wanted but I'll have to save up some money first! There are items that are totally affordable too! I actually finally found some sterling silver mini hoop earrings for like $20! Unfortunately, the bag fell out of my purse at some point yesterday after I bought them, but hey for $20 I'll go back and buy another pair! My boyfriend also got me a lovely silver ring for $48 with this beautiful honeycomb pattern to it. There are gemstones of all kinds on rings, earrings, charms, and necklaces. Even the the items that I couldn't afford seemed pretty reasonably priced all things considered! The woman who helped me was very nice as well I think her name was Amanda? I can't remember, but she was a great help! Also the entire store is just gorgeous inside and outside. The music was right, the decor was consistent, and the outside of the store has a cute cat mural painted on it! The location is perfectly situated near a ton of awesome stuff too, including an ice cream shop and a coffee shop. I used Fly high to resize and replace a small diamond on a double banded engagement ring. On the first go around the diamond fell out within a week so I returned to get it fixed again but when I picked it up they had bent one of my bands and drilled a much larger hole than needed so the second diamond replacement fell out with in days again also making another fall out next to it. So now I have a bent engagement ring missing TWO diamonds. Not only did they mess up twice but they made me pay twice also. Do not let them repair your meaningful pieces. read more

I came in this morning looking to get my mom a gift for her 50th birthday. I wasn't sure what to get because my mom is very specific with what jewelry she wears. An employee named Alicia was so kind and helped me pick a gorgeous dainty necklace for my mom. I noticed the price was a little higher than I expected and I was only carrying cash. I told Alicia I was only carrying cash and she was quick to help me negotiate the price. The necklace we picked out was around $150 but Alicia brought the price down to around $80. I must admit, I liked the store quite a bit more before I actually went in. I live nearby and love the fanged bunny rabbit sculpture on the roof. I don't like gold for some odd reason and almost exclusively own silver. Every time I passed by I thought, "gee willikers, I need to go there someday." There were lots of interesting jewelry options, but I didn't see anything I HAD to have. (For example: anything with a fanged bunny on it... hello, no-brainer!) The most surprising and ultimately disappointing feature was the high pricing strategy. When visiting an establishment with "eclectic" world jewelry I am accustomed to an equally "eclectic" range of prices. I couldn't find a pair of earrings marked less than $32 and the bulk were much more. I'm not suggesting they were over-priced, probably just that the selection was skewed towards nicer pieces on the pricey end of the spectrum. I am a cynic by nature, maybe that's why I'm a scientist, and the pseudo-anthropological musings were a bit much to swallow. We discovered Fly High about 15 years ago at the old location on South Shepherd and West Alabama, and my wife fell in love. Unfortunately for me, she really enjoys fine jewelry and had been frequenting the usual suspects in The Galleria area. Fly High became our 'go to' boutique for gifts for any occasion. We were always impressed with the high quality of the merchandise and the diversity of the artisans. Shopping is not my favorite activity, but I could always kill an hour poking around in there! We moved to NYC for a time, and when we returned were disappointed to find the shop closed. We recently moved back into The Heights and were excited to see the unmistakable Fly High logo appear on a stand alone shop at 19th and Rutland. The newly opened space is cooler than the old shop and packed with greatness. My wife has already done some damage there, today was my first chance to stop by. I met Sandra, who took the time to show me around and shoot the breeze. It's a very relaxed vibe, and the merchandise is still amazing. I ending up buying a chunky sliver ring that I figured my wife would snatch up on her next visit anyway! I've always found the price points here to be very reasonable, from everyday gift items to the high end special occasion pieces. I have visited and made several purchases from here. The customer service has been great each visit - even when nothing was purchased. They were able to match a ring that my ex had lost several years ago and was made at the store. The owners and manager make you feel welcome and do not push anything on you. Liz just in the shop today with my senior cytisine father and my girlfriend, never been in before just looking at the jewelry and admiring everything. On our way out the short dark-haired woman working there freaked out said that a ring was missing begin to question each of us with a conspicuous eye and nasty look. First of all, this is a very neat little shop, with an interesting variety of stuff. The staff has almost always been very friendly and tries to be helpful. HOWEVER, they agreed to order an item for me, and that is when the service went straight to hell. First they forgot to order it. Instead of one week as I was told, it took a month and a half to get it in. Then it was the wrong item, but they wanted me to take it anyway. I refuses and they tried to reordered the correct item, but that also took several weeks to get in, even though they told be it would be only a couple of weeks. I had to call them repeatedly because they never called me when they said they would. Of the approximate 12 calls I placed to them during this 3+ month period, they only returned one call. The second item was also not what I ordered, but they said they could no longer get what I originally wanted so they ordered a substitute that was similar, without asking me. But because they made me pay for it in advance, they would not give me my money back because they said it was a "special order." So 3.5 months after my initial request to fulfill an order that they said would take a week, I was stuck with a $120 item I never even ordered. And to top that, I found the exact same thing that they charged me $120 for at another shop a couple of weeks later for $82. Grrrrr. My experience there was really a bummer, because I initially really like the store and the owners. But it turned into an really bad experience and I felt completely screwed over. Which is too bad, because they really do have some neat stuff and I would have been a repeat customer, but I will never return there. I continued to look for the original item around town and heard from others in the industry that Fly High has had a reputation of being a little ruthless when it comes to orders for quite some time. Fly High Little Bunny...oh how I love you. The location is kind of hard to find unless you are from the area and now where to park etc...But the distorted bunny with fangs is pretty hard to miss. I have at least five pieces from here and cherish them all. The owner travels all over the world finding beauties and puts his own twist on them to sell. I will take some pictures and do and update soon. Personally I do not think it is overpriced. Yes silver is cheap but the stones he finds are not, they are all one of a kind. Just don't go in there unless you want to spend money. The cheapest I found rings for so far was about $50-75.00, and the ones I bought were both very detailed so I was impressed. read more

Those who say this is the "best silver store in Texas" have in fact, not explored Texas. Most Eclectic in Houston yes, however, that's about as far as it goes and that's saying a lot. I'm all about supporting local businesses for sure, but most of their inventory is very one dimensional...a lot of the same thing and, in my opinion, outdated. With that said, if you love stones, can appreciate the natural ones for what they are and know what your talking about, then they do have some nice ones to choose from. This is the exact reason I chose this place to make a rather expensive purchase for my BF's mother for her 60th b-day. My BF is from Denver and just a month after we met, he flew me out there to meet his mother. One of the things I remember the most from that trip was his mother's massive jewelry collection of silver and every stone imaginable...I'm certain even the owner of Fly High would be envious. I recall her pointing out piece after piece and giving me details of each stone. So Fly High isn't exactly my taste but I knew that it would work perfect for my BF's mother (or so I thought)! I chose a matching bracelet and earrings to the tune of around $600. Keep in mind price was no object here. Sent it off to Denver and she LOVED it...mission accomplished....er, not quite. The bracelet, although silver, would not have been considered an everyday piece, rather something you would wear for a special occasion. Within the first year that we bought it for her she wore it twice, once to her nephews wedding and once to the theater....both times it fell off of her wrist. Fearful that she would end up losing it, she put it back in the original box and let us know what had happened. Fast forward a year, his mother sold her home and business in Denver and moved to Texas to be near her two sons. I immediately asked her for the bracelet (she's in the Woodlands) so I could take it in for her to be fixed. Low and behold, they actually charged me to tighten up the clasp, or to do whatever they did to it so that it wouldn't fall off....the fee was nominal, regardless, I was SHOCKED! In my opinion, this is not how a local shop should do business if they want to keep business. You don't charge your customer for something that was never right to begin with? And like I said, the fee was nominal so why would they turn around and make the patron pay for it? How can they not understand that taking on the small fee to fix a fairly high priced item would have us think of them again for our next purchase? This incident took place awhile ago....thank heavens for Yelp, I can finally get this out there! I don't remember all the lame excuses the guy gave to me (trust me, totally lame) I do remember that is was very unprofessional and sadly we will never go back..... So, I'm certain this is a fine place to pick up some charms or some inexpensive silver pieces, just don't bother throwing your money away on any high-priced items as the customer service and customer retention isn't anything to speak of. read more
