I received a phone call last week from one of the managers at Tenenbaum who had recently had my review come across her desk. She said that she was mortified by the way the situation was handled when I brought my ring in and was hoping that she could make things right. At this point it had already been 2 weeks since I had brought the ring in so I had long since taken it to another jeweler to have the ring repaired. She was very apologetic and invited me to come back in the store whenever and to contact her personally. I appreciated that she reached out and acknowledged my experience. It doesn't negate the interaction I had with my sales associate and the jeweler but I do respect that she followed up and while I cannot say that I will be a returning customer at this point, I would take it into consideration. My daughter got her GORGEOUS art deco engagement ring here. When I came to town, she told me to pop into the store to see for myself how beautiful everything is. She was right. I came in by myself and fell in LOVE with a unique 24 carat gold and sterling silver vintage ring. I wasn't ready to make the purchase but I was not hard-sold or threatened that it might be gone. When I returned with my daughter, her sister and sister-in-law to be, to look at wedding bands, I asked to see the ring I'd fallen in love with again. Tenenbaum Jewelers really came through in my time of need. My mother recently passed and I needed her wedding rings cleaned. Mind you, I wish I had taken before and after photos, because y'all- these rings were full of calcium and buildup. When I asked the gemologist if I could verify the laser etching on a diamond ring we had resized, she was incredibly rude and condescending and initially refused to allow me to view it using their microscope. Tenenbaum Classic Jewelers is what I hope heaven looks like. I loved their older, much smaller location; it always reminded me of a tiny jewel box. However, their new location is a huge, sparkling treasure trove! Sheer bliss; whether you're there to shop, sell, or to simply browse. Everyone there is so friendly and seems to be genuinely happy you're there. I recently visited the store to inquire about selling some jewelry not long after I had taken my dog to a vet appointment and was wearing flip flops and jeans covered in dog hair. I was feeling a bit self-conscious about entering such a gorgeous store looking like a not-so-hot, furry mess, but that feeling quickly dissipated upon entering the store, where I was greeted warmly and offered a drink and snacks while I waited for Cristina to take a look at my items. The jewelry displays are BEYOND belief; seriously, this is the stuff dreams are made of! Not only are there pieces that I would happily sell my house and maybe an organ or two for, there are also plenty of items to fit in any budget. If you are ever wanting to treat yourself to a piece of jewelry to mark a special occasion or just *because*, stop here first. I'm pretty sure you won't need to look anywhere else. This is also a great place to sell jewelry. I love jewelry, but I tend to be fickle and a bit impulsive when making decisions about buying the bling bling. I have sold my pieces at Tenenbaum several times the past several years, and I always walk away happy. In my experience, no one else in Houston offers such fair prices, and it's such a much more pleasant experience than hassling with eBay. Took my girlfriend to look at rings this morning and thought we would make a fun morning of it, by going to brunch afterward. Parked at Tenenbaum as soon as we got out of the truck a bald head rent a cop began yelling at us. I was on a business call at the time. He walked up to me as I ended my call and told me to go valet at Bosskat. I asked him why. He told me" your going there anyways. This is parking for Tenenbaum employees " the signs said Tenenbaum customers only. I told the security officer, " I was going to go to Tenenbaum to look at jewelry " he looked me up and down and said" no your not" and when you leave and go to Bosskat. I'm gonna tow you". I suppose they did not like the way I was dressed! So, I'll shop for her engagement ring elsewhere! And never shop at Tenenbaum again. read more

I love jewelery stores. And being married to someone who has a slight obsession with watches has made me a connoisseur. Tenenbaum's used to be in the Galleria (as far as I know, they were one of two stores in the entire mall that still required you to be buzzed in through their front door), but moved to their new location a few months ago. It is a great improvement! There is so much more space in this store and they can actually have a lot of their jewelery out on display. In their old store, most of their merchandise was in the safe since there just wasn't enough room to show it all off. I'm not sure if the bigger space has made the employees happier, but they are much friendlier in this new location. They were even helpful. And they were shockingly knowledgeable. Tenenbaum's has a great collection of estate jewelery that I have yet to see matched in Houston. They have vintage watches and gorgeous stones. Everything is in great condition and they really go to great lengths to find out the history of each piece. If you're on the hunt for some unique estate pieces, I would definitely keep Tenenbaum's in mind. They have plenty of parking and enough sparkle to keep you busy for quite some time. read more

I have been familiar with this establishment for many years. At first, I would only walk by their old store-front in the Galleria. Once I was brave enough to ring that bell, I was pleasantly surprised. Not only does Louis Tannenbaum have one of the most extensive collections of estate and antique jewelry in the city, they also have one of the most expert and friendly group of people I have had the pleasure to work with. Even when I have just been browsing, with no intention of buying, they have been more than happy to let me see things in the cases, discuss them with me and answer any questions I have. I have never felt pressured or like the person had something better to do than talk to me. If you're looking for an engagement ring that would be rather unique and have a history, this is the place. If you're looking for something other than that little diamond ring, this place has that too. Beautiful items made of precious and semi-precious stones and gold jewelery, all made by fine artisans. Deceptive sales, sold a SUPERGLUED ring and lied about it. When they closed down their old store they held a store-wide 50%-off sale. Great, right? We found a lovely engagement ring with a central diamond and diamond and ruby accents. It looked a little dirty and my girlfriend asked about some residue she spotted. They told her that it just needed a good cleaning, which they would do. We bought the ring the next day. Once she got it home, she looked more closely and saw that not only had it not been cleaned, but a ruby calibre piece was missing. We didn't have time to sort it out as we were travelling to London. Once there we had it looked at by six jewelers. Four outright refused to take it for repairs because it was in such poor condition. A fifth was willing to look at it and has a name as one of London's best repairers. We went there wanting a price to find and cut a ruby, and to properly clean it. To our shock they told us that the centre diamond was about to fall out of its collet (setting), and that the residue wasn't a matter of cleaning but was superglue residue. We got a second opinion who agreed that every small diamond and ruby was glued with superglue, that the collet needed repairing, and that two small diamonds were also missing and a third was damaged. I don't mind antique jewelery being damaged, but I do think that should be fully disclosed before the sale. What really gets me is who sells a ring full of superglue and then actively lies about it in the store?! Both London jewelers told us if they had done that, they would be thrown out of their jewelers' trade associations. But oh look, Tenenbaum doesn't belong to any. I'm sure that's just a coincidence though. We of course contacted Tenenbaum. They were... not helpful. The sales person we reached quickly grew flustered and tried to lie to us (telling us that the ring was 50% off because of these issues - nope, it was a store-wide 50% off sale). Then offered us a partial refund that wasn't even half the cost of the repairs. Then stopped talking to us. We took the matter to one of the owners. They had their own repair person quote on fixing these issues and their quote was within 5% of ours. The owner said if we returned the ring they would repair it at no cost to us. (There was never any admission of superglue or that the ring had been sold deceptively). That sounds like a good answer but when I looked into it I found that the cost to us to send it roundtrip UK to the US, with insurance and all fees we'd pay on "importing" it back into the UK, would be over 50% of what we paid for the ring. That is hardly "no cost to us", and I invited the Tenenbaum owner to either cover those shipping costs (obviously absurd), or to pay for us to have the ring repaired in London since they agreed that's what it would cost. They stopped returning emails or calls at that point. Zero contact from then on. I eventually reported the transaction to my bank who after investigating agreed that it was reasonable to contest the credit card charge for the cost of the repairs. Exact words were "goods sold not as advertised" and "goods supplied were defective". However I speculate that Tenebaum have been down this path before. Take a close look at their Terms & Conditions: all sales are "as-is". Learn from our mistake. Do not buy from Tenenbaum unless you have the piece examined by an indepedent jeweler under magnification in good light. If anything is not as Tenenbaum claims, or if they lie to you like they lied to us, then you will have no recourse. Apparently this is not technically fraud because those Terms & Conditions mean we agree that we are buying everything as they actually are and not as Tenenbaum claims they are. That means they could sell you a cubic zirconia ("as-is") and tell you that it was a diamond... but if you bought it, you will have agreed that you bought a CZ and you will be suckered just as we were. They should be ashamed of themselves to sell superglued jewelery, let alone to lie about it. DO NOT BUY. read more

Based upon Tenenbaum's long term reputation in the jewelry business, my husband recently solicited appraisal of his mother's vintage wedding ring set at the Highland Village store in Houston. We were readily assisted in person with the necessary information needed to order a "real appraisal", as opposed to an "insurance appraisal". The stunning solitaire diamond set in platinum was to be appraised with and without the matching wedding band. We were told to expect a 2-3 week wait, and that we would be notified when the appraisal was completed with accompanying documentation. After 2-1/2 weeks, I phoned the store to inquire about the status of the appraisal. I received a phone call later the same day from the appraiser, explaining that she was in the process of appraising an extensive "grouping" of items, with our order next in line. I was assured the work would be completed within the next week. Ten days later, I phoned the store again. I was told that our appraisal was ready, along with proper documentation, and could be picked up during regular store hours. This was one month and 2 days after leaving the ring at Tenenbaum's. Today my husband went to Tenenbaum's for the ring set and appraisal. The appraisal received was NOT an actual value, but an "insurance appraisal", which we had specifically declined initially. This outcome is less than acceptable on several levels. I am astonished that a store of this repute not only failed to communicate with us when the time frame could not be met, but actually performed the wrong type of appraisal, rendering it useless to us after a month long wait. We are back to square one. I am relieved to say that the store waived the cost of the "insurance appraisal". There was no explanation for the mistake, nor did any managerial employee even bother to face my husband in person for a discussion of the matter. This was our first experience with Tenenbaum Jewelers, and it will be our last. I definitely do not recommend. read more

The quoted time-frame for jewelry repair was not honored for my 3 items. I followed-up rather than customer service being proactive (Laura). My 1st item was not even touched when I came to pick it up, though I was told it was ready. Two of the items were sent to New York to an unknown jeweler with an unknown date of return. I was told they were "swamped," to the tune of a 3 week lag-time. I firmly do not recommend them. read more

Louis Tennebaum may be a great place to buy estate jewelry but it isn't a great place to sell it. I took a piece of my grandmother's jewelry to this store when I was in my 20's because I needed to pay for medical treatment. It was heartbreaking to sell a piece of my grandmother's jewelry but I had no choice. I knew this was a well respected store and assumed they would be honest with me. I was asked who had refered me to them several times. Now I understand!! They wanted to know if I had a connection with a good customer. If they found out I didn't get a fair deal he may lose their business. A few years later I found out that the piece was worth ten times more than I was paid! I was heartbroken all over again. I can't do anything due to the paperwork I signed waiving my rights to take any course of action should there ever be a discrepancy. If you are selling a piece of jewelry get an appraisal and don't trust anyone to give you a fair deal no matter how well known they are!!!!!!!! This should have no stars at all!!!! read more
