This place is awesome. Brandon is a great guy to get a hold of and works with and around your needs. I planned a last minute trip for my three guy friends and myself due to one being on leave from the Navy and they had a blast. Patrick and Gus happily greeted us, even upon our late arrival and we were on our way. We purchased the go pro deal and the group package(so that they can take all four of us out, rather than having two at a time). The only inconvenience was that the go pro died, but Patrick was awesome enough to film through his phone (high definition) and capture the memories. I haven't seen the outcome of them yet.. but I'm hoping it'll be a good turnout. We were suited up in our life vests and headed off to open water in the docks. We each enjoyed a brief "s turn" tutorial so that we can get used to turning with the jet packs on our feet. We each got to stand up on our own and when in the right position, the pack launched us into the air. Depending on your stability, you can get some pretty high air. It was an exhilarating feeling, but I was also more focused on balancing so that I could get higher. My guy friends did great and all got pretty high. I would definitely do this again, with more experience and courage. Also with our time more planned out so that I could void the rescheduling fee. Overall though, we had a blast and you would definitely want to try this either as a group, tandem or even just yourself. Depending on the quantity of people, the more time you can get individually since they only have one jet pack. read more

This was back in June. After so many hours thinking and searching what to give my boyfriend for his birthday I was super glad to find the Groupon for an hour flight with video and photo footage. It seemed like the best gift I would ever give to anyone. Indeed, he was pretty impressed for this idea and we both couldn't wait to go fly. Unfortunately, when I started dealing with FlyJet sports over the phone, things didn't go so smoothly. I called in to schedule an appointment, followed precisely the instructions of the automated machine, sent them an email with all the required information and there was no reply for couple weeks. When I called again, Gus told me he couldn't find any emails so I had to schedule the appointment, which would be another 10 days wait minimum. And again, no confirmation was sent to me, as was promised, nothing happened for another couple days. I called again, and reached Brandon, who explained everything clearly and had me scheduled for August 4th. Now the fun part begins! We drove down to Newport beach on that day, which is a 2 hour drive from us, and about an hour before our assigned flight time I get a call from Brandon that there was an equipment malfunction and he will try to fix it that very same day, so there was a possibility we could still fly. So we stayed there till the evening in hopes that we would fly but Brandon never called back, or answered his phone. I called him 2 days later to deal with the situation, and after discussing all the confusion and his apologies I decided to try again and scheduled 2nd appointment a month later, September 8th. Again, there was nothing before this date - no calls, no confirmation sent, so I had to call and ask for it. Moreover, I was told that I had to drive to their another location in Dana point, which is a longer drive. Needless to say I was already completely irritated, but we still went there and guess what? same story - equipment malfunction just an hour before my assigned flight time. For me, this was already too unrealistic. I tried calling back the same day to discuss my options, but obviously no answer. This was completely unacceptable. Don't be tempted to buy this groupon, unless you want to deal with horrible customer service. Thank God, Groupon customer service was understanding enough to give me a refund. So sad we didn't get to fly. AVOID. read more

Stay away! Despite some bad reviews on yelp we decided to give jet fly sports a try, since there were also some great reviews. Lesson learned! Everything started out fine, we had to pay ahead, which was a bit strange but given that we were sure to do it, we trusted them and paid ahead. Unfortunately exactly on our flight day the weather turned really bad and we called Brandon from Fly jet sports to see what our options are. Brandon asked us, if we wanted to cancel and we said yes. Then he asked us if we wanted to be refunded and we said yes of course and he replied literally ' ok, I will proceed the refund'. That's it. 2 days later we receive an email saying we can't be refunded because we canceled out later than 48 hours ahead. He offered that we can reschedule the flight, but we couldn't since we had to leave back to Europe. More than $200 are lost. Not only did he lie to us on the phone by saying he will process the refund, also did he not mention the 48 hours, when we called him. I mean, why do you ask someone if he wanted to be refunded when you KNOW it is not possible? If he had told us right away that its not possible we at least could have planned differently and change our plans and flights to do the water jet flight another day. He screamed at me on the phone and I slowly got the feeling that we got caught in a scam, especially by reading all the other bad reviews, that had similar experiences. Apparently they don't even have an operating permit. If you want to loose time and money and gain anger and bad experiences, go with fly jet! Other than that, please stay away. Don't make them same mistake as us. We are so disappointed! I hope Brandon and his team are going to buy some customer service and functioning gear with our $200! read more

This review is of my experience from July 2013. I see that their service has not really improved since then though after reading some of these reviews. I only wish I had read them before I made a purchase. I also don't know how ethical it is to offer people a discount for 5 star reviews. I was very excited to get this deal on Groupon for my husband's birthday gift. I made many attempts and calls and emails before finally getting a response and weeks later I felt "lucky" to be able to make an appointment unfortunately it was so close to the expiration date. I requested noon or 1 or even 3pm and got a 5:30pm appointment. Expressed my concern over the lateness and got the reply that the sun would be out still and warm enough. And that there may be a cancellation for a 4:30pm slot to which I never heard back on so I assumed my appointment would still be at 5:30pm. We arrive 30 minutes early and am given a call that they are not at the dock and will be 20 minutes late (from the 5:30 appt. time). At 5:40pm I am told again it will be 20 minutes away. At 6pm I call them and ask when would the boat be at the dock as it was getting 1.) darker, 2.) later (when we were on time) and 3.) colder! this is a water sport afterall. I was again told they would be back in 20 minutes. Making them arrive for us at 6:20pm which is nearly 1 hour after our set appointment (considering their 20 minutes has stretched several times 6:20pm arrival seemed hopeful! So I ask if I can reschedule for an earlier time when it would be warmer and sunnier as I have dinner reservations for my husband's birthday at 7:30pm which would have worked out had Fly Jet Sports been on time. I am told to reschedule they would charge me $75. Why? This is no my fault of mine that they are late. And explain I was on time. I get the reply that water sports is not an exact timing. I ask for a refund and get the reply of a chuckle then NO. This has been the worst experience I've had with all my groupons. I've never received such poor customer service or disappointment in something I had been so looking forward to. It took weeks to contact someone and then another week to get a reply via email and other emails completely unanswered. Numerous emails were sent before getting a call back. Appointment options were very limited. And then I am penalized for being on time and making my scheduled appointment when vendor is nearly one hour late. Suggesting I do the sport a hour from sunset with limited visibility. My poor husband got the worst birthday gift ever or did not get it as it stands. He wants nothing to do with this company. I would never recommend them or try them again based on this poor treatment and appalling service. read more

The rocks are very jagged and its easy to cut yourself. Make sure to pay attention to ALL the Instructions of setting your appointment. It can be a little bit of a hassle. Wow this is one experience for the books! First, Brandon (the manager of Fly Jet Sports) is SUPER available to all his customers. I probably exchanged about 20 calls and texts with him through this whole process. He replied thoroughly in a timely manner, which I appreciated. Our time on the water was great as well, even though we were a bit late because before we got on the boat, we needed to drive up Balboa to find a bathroom because there isn't one near the dock. We got on a boat through the harbor and were taken to a jet ski by corona del mar beach (but still in 30+ feet depth). I was trained in about 5 minutes by a guy named Fitz and then I was up on the water, flying! It really is an incredible experience. It reminds me of knee boarding/ wake boarding in the sense that you have to balance and shift your weight to the tension of the boat, but in this case the pressure is under your feet. He was super friendly and provided excellent customer service, from the time of my first call to the day of the flight. I think that, like many other companies, these guys had some kinks to iron in the beginning. But it seems to me that they now have all of the systems in place and are able to offer clients an amazing experience. They are courteous, helpful and always available. He explained that there's a ON-GOING PROMOTION that is even CHEAPER than GROUPON-- the 60-min flying time can be split between my bf and I and I can pay for 1 hr first and if there is an open slot on that day, I can always buy an addition hour. He was so honest about the price and the experience. After I paid, Brandon emailed and texted me the confirmation email with time, date, and direction to the dock. This place was SO great!!! A friend took me as a birthday gift and we went for 2 hours and it was one of the most fun experiences I've ever had. Brandon was super nice and he and Bryce were great at showing me how to use the board and encouraging me to try tricks etc. We rented wet suits nearby but my friend didn't even use his, the water was so warm. Parking is tricky there so give yourself plenty of time to park far and walk. Another couple was over 30 mins late but we had to leave them because it was cutting into our time. You have to show up on time. I'd also say 2 hours is def the way to go, too. The first hour takes some time to figure it all out. But by the second hour, you're flying! WHAT A DISASTER!! We bought a full hour on Groupon for 3 of us. 1 hour before we are supposed to start we get a call from Gus who tells us that we need to be re-routed from Dana Point to Newport Beach. We start the drive to Newport and then we get a phone call saying that we are to go back to Dana Point. We show up at Dana Point Harbor and Gus is 30 minutes late. He proceeds to tell us that only 2 people can go and not 3, which is the opposite of what Brandon ( the booking agent) told us. The instructor was some arrogant kid who said, " As long as I get paid for my time, I dont care what happens". My dad, brother and I decide to re-schedule a time so that all 3 of us can ride and they tried to charge us a $99 re-schedule fee. This was the most unprofessional organization I have dealt with in years, and I would be careful when booking anything through Fly Jet Sports. When I called them to schedule an appointment I only got an automated message telling me to send them an e-mail. I followed their directions and sent the e-mail with all the required information. It has been over 10 days and I still have not heard back from them. I also contacted them trough their website and Facbook but wasn't able to make an appointment yet. This is completely unacceptable for any service. I am currently working with Groupon on a refund. If you want to have fun, go with Jetlev America. I repeatedly told Gus I would be in town for my vacation and wasn't from Socal, so I would need to know my appointment beforehand since we were also spending several days in Disneyland. When I spoke to Gus on the phone about receiving my refund he said "Why are you making such a big deal about $189!" and hung up in my face. The staff provide good instructions and give you a chance to perform some different maneuvers, which includes levitating above the water. Their customer service both before and after the sale needs work, however. Scheduling by phone or e-mail can be difficult with sometimes no answer and no ability to leave a message, as well as email messages not returned. After the session is over, the staff offers to send you the video taken of your experience. Despite several emails and texts to try to obtain the video, the staff ultimately did not follow through with sending the video. Besides wanting to see the video myself, I was going to show it to some friends who might have been interested in purchasing their own session, but now that recommendation is not going to happen. read more

I initially saw this through a Groupon deal and got the $189 for an hour to flyboard as a Christmas gift for my girlfriend. She loves the water and used to surf, so I thought this would be a pretty fun opportunity to try a once-in-a-lifetime sport. We just went this past weekend and, since we were beginners, went to the harbor at Newport Beach. Brandon was our contact and he was constantly in contact with me via text or phone call even when I had last minute questions prior to the flight. He was so genuinely nice and accommodating even when I wanted to bring my sister last-minute (which didn't work out, but I know that she'll want to go soon now that my girlfriend and I had such an awesome experience). Our instructor was awesome too, Tobias, he was incredibly encouraging and laid-back but got super-excited any time we did well. That type of encouragement made me less nervous and more determined to try again when I fell (and I did that many many times). The water was really cold even on the beautiful day this past Saturday was so I would HIGHLY encourage getting a wet suit that fits you (I got a wet suit from Frog House that was WAY too big for me, which I didn't realize until I hit the water and I could basically fit a small toddler inside the suit with me; however, it was for an awesome price, $5/hour so that's a definite plus). Also, they let you bring your cameras on the jet ski with you so a friend or the instructor can film you while you fly and I would suggest you do that, the footage is pretty incredible. The experience itself is SERIOUSLY awesome. I'm not a water person at all and was only doing this because my girlfriend LOVES the water. But, after watching my girlfriend do it for half an hour, I needed to try. It was SUCH an amazing experience. It's a little rough trying to position the board underneath you and figuring out how to balance on it, but once you get out of the water, it's AWESOME. I felt like a superhero on this board and the instructor and my girlfriend were cheering me on and giving me tips on how to further play with the board. It was incredibly thrilling and invigorating. My girlfriend and I have decided we are FOR SURE coming back and doing this again. I'm surprised at all of the low one and two star ratings that this place has gotten. Brandon is extrmeley communicative, genial, and accommodating. My suggestion would be to get a hold of him by phone and text rather than merely sending an e-mail. This was so awesome I would recommend it to anyone. Here is the deal you need to bring your own wetsuit the best place to rent one if you don't already own one is frog house surf shop. Each person will want to go for a bare minimum of 30 minutes and you will really want 1 hour to get the hang of it, and anything over 2 hours per person is over kill. Anyone can do this you don't have to be in immaculate shape however if you are athletic it is so fun. Show up 15 minutes early because parking is always tough on the peninsula. I surf, sail, snowboard, and absolutely love anything on the water, this was like no experience I have ever done before and highly recommend it. This is a small business run by a father and son team so don't expect first class luxury service however they are pretty cool dudes and want everyone to have a great time. read more

AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!!!. It has been a complete nightmare trying to cash in our Groupon with Fly Jet Sports. We have been told on multiple occasions to go to Newport Harbor, then Dana Point Harbor, then back to Newport. They are everything but professional. They truly don't care about your experience with Jet Boarding but rather if their time will be worth it to take you out. First I will say, Do not book in Dana Point Harbor. If you do, they won't tell you until you get there that there is a 5 minute drag out to get out of the Harbor before you can start flying. So you waste 10 minutes total (5 minutes out, 5 minutes in) and tell you that the remaining 5 minutes isn't enough to learn and fly so you need to buy more time. After they informed us that a certain number of people could go on the day if we accommodated their flip flopping schedules, they later said that they could not take all of us and some would have to re-schedule when this was b-day gift and not everyone in the party could go on the same day, even though the guy on the phone said we could and it "wouldn't be a problem" The people on the phone are not the same ones you meet at the harbor. Gus and the instructor (instructor has nothing to do with the company, just a tattooed kid who knows how to fly the board and teach) are the ones that usually meet you and truly have no idea what was said on the phone earlier with other employees. So if you see someone write a review about how people have been great on the phone, that's because how hard is it to schedule and ask someone to sign a waiver and send it back? Easy. Of course they will sound nice. They have little to do. If you bought a Groupon, do yourself a favor and call Groupon and ask for a refund.. They are very good about refunding people, and it then comes out of Fly Jet Sports pocket. Hopefully they'll eventually learn that they need to run this business with more professionalism and run it to where the left-hand knows what the right-hand is doing. Until then, find a new company. Seriously. There are others that are doing it with much more professionalism, instead of a guy towing a jet board down at the last minute in a beat up truck and tells you that what you paid was not enough money and you should pay for more if you want to enjoy it. :-/ There is a reason why there are so many bad reviews on here for Fly Jet Sports. Take that as a warning. Refund your money and go elsewhere where you're treated properly as a paying customer. Hope this helps. P read more

I have emailed them 5 times and received two replies, neither of which have got me closer to booking a reservation. I've begged and begged to talk over the phone or anything to get a reservation made, but after four days I'm giving up.
