Now THIS is how fried chicken is supposed to be…read more I stopped by Champy's while visiting Chattanooga, and it was the highlight of my afternoon. The fried chicken came out hot, crispy, juicy, and full of flavor. You could literally see the juices coming out of the chicken, and every bite was delicious. The customer service was excellent as well. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout the meal. I also enjoyed the atmosphere. The walls were covered in dollar bills and license plates, which gave the restaurant a lot of character and made it feel like a place with stories to tell. I found myself wondering about the history behind it all.

We got to choose our table and had friendly service the whole time. Note that although the service is pretty good, the food coming out was a little slow. We got the 3 chicken tender basket, catfish basket, the smoked buffalo wings, and banana pudding. The buffalo wings were the highlight. Great smokiness coming through the wings. Just a little bit of heat from the buffalo sauce. Highly recommend. Everything else was pretty good. The chicken was tender, and good crisp to the outside, and good seasoning. The catfish was pretty good too although they were pretty thin so didn't get quite as much of the crunch to tenderness contrast that I like in a catfish. Also, their tartar sauce is too sweet. I prefer more tang on the sauce. I think the sauces run sweet as I thought the champy sauce was a little too sweet over mustard-y. Good fries with great texture and seasoning. I also got the green bean sides which were a little soft but great, depth of flavor as it was clearly cooked with pork. The potato salad was good if not memorable. The kids loved the banana pudding. A little too much of the cream and not enough pudding but otherwise worth getting. All in all a strong chicken spot to visit while in Chattanooga.

Casual, colorful, the kind of spot where you expect someone to walk in wearing flip flops and carrying a fishing pole. Comfortable vibe. Easy place to settle in and see what the fryer can do. First up were the fried green tomatoes. They came out looking like they'd just won a beauty pageant. Crispy outside, tender inside, cooked exactly right. Texture nailed. But flavor-wise they felt like they forgot their gym bag at home. Needed salt. Needed a little personality. A rare moment where the fryer did its job but the seasoning clocked out early. Then the headliner arrived. The fried chicken at Champy's Famous Fried Chicken has a reputation to protect, and thankfully it shows up ready to work. Crisp, flavorful crust. Juicy inside. The kind of chicken that crunches just enough to make everyone at the table look over and get jealous. "If the deep fryer had a Hall of Fame, Champy's chicken is getting a first-ballot vote." And then came the move that sealed the deal. A dip into Champy sauce. Suddenly the flavor level jumped another notch. Salty, tangy, just enough punch to make the crust shine even more. The sleeper hit though? The cole slaw. Creamy, balanced, and actually refreshing next to all the fried goodness. It's the quiet kid in class who ends up acing the exam. Easy to overlook, but absolutely worth ordering. Now for the tiny curveball. I happened to land there on karaoke night. And let's just say... the speakers believed they were performing at an arena concert. Loud enough that conversation required leaning halfway across the table and reading lips. On the flip side, the crowd was clearly having a blast. A few genuinely good singers, a few that were more... enthusiastic than talented, and plenty of people cheering them on. Honestly, respect to anyone with the courage to grab a microphone in a room full of strangers. So no star deductions for that. The people who showed up to sing were having the time of their lives. Bottom line, Champy's Famous Fried Chicken is a fun place with seriously good fried chicken. Order the bird, grab the slaw, lean into the fried side of the menu, and enjoy the show if karaoke happens to be on the schedule. Just maybe bring your singing voice... or your earplugs.

The problem is the cleanliness. Tables and floors felt neglected and the bathrooms were straight up filthy. That alone hurt the experience. Service was fine at best. The server showed up, took orders, and dropped food. No warmth. No real attention. It felt like she was counting down the minutes until her shift ended. Food was a mixed bag. The tamales ($8.00) came out hot and fresh, which is a good start. Flavor was missing. The sauce did all the work. Without it, they were bland to the point of tasting like bottled water. The mac and cheese was average. The noodles were cooked right. The cheese sauce had no personality. No seasoning. Nothing memorable. The chicken tenders ($14.00) were done right. Fresh. Crunchy on the outside. Juicy inside. For a fast casual spot, this was a win. The chicken and sausage gumbo ($12.00) was easily the best thing on the table. Great flavor. Proper spice. This is the dish they should be proud of. The issue is portion balance. Way too much broth and not enough chicken, sausage, or rice. It felt like an 80 percent liquid bowl. Flavor was there, value was not. Also odd detail, real fork for coleslaw, plastic spoon tossed into the gumbo bowl. Overall, Champy's has a fun vibe and one strong dish, but it gets dragged down by cleanliness issues, lackluster service, and bland sides. I left feeling underwhelmed.

After watching Sooooo many pizza reviews, we decided to try the Neapolitan style pizza. Thin crust and cooked in a wood fire oven. So.... First and foremost pizza was good. Being a Neapolitan style, I was expecting a bit more crunch with the slight char. The tomato sauce was very good. You could tell it was fresh crushed tomatoes and basil. Bartender and our waiter were awesome. Talked to us about the local brewery, the styles of pizza, etc. very friendly and cooperative with all the questions we had. We were both pleasantly surprised by this local downtown place. Good atmosphere and good food. A must try when downtown Chattanooga. They do offer Detroit style and New York style pizza as well. It all depends on the way YOU like your pizza cooked! VERY good pizza! I would probably give this pizza, on a pizza scale; an 8.2 which is pretty high. A little flop on the crust, but the crunch, char and the amazing tomato sauce, partnered with the atmosphere and friendly staff made it a must visit pizza place! We finished it off with the local made gelato. I had milk and honey and my wife had chocolate. Both were very flavorful and refreshing on this very hot day. Community Pizza is fitting as everyone either in or around this community should stop by and try this pizza! Thanks for a great afternoon experience!

For three dollars, it just seemed too good to pass up. It came out looking great...but, three or four bites in, I felt something was off. Then it hit me! There was no flavor! It's almost like all you guys got on their case for too much salt, so they removed it from the recipe. lol I also had the adult fried cheese. They were just OK. The dipping sauce was fantastic. I'm not sure why they didn't use that sauce in the DeMarco Pizza. If they did, they did not use nearly enough. I think what I did not like about the fried cheese was that...in my head, I expected something similar to mozzarella sticks with flavorful breading. There was no breading to this...it was like a crisp, if that makes sense. It changed the dynamic. Less of a cheese stick, more of a wonton or empanada. I also love trying new things, so I had the blackberry vinegar drink. I don't know why I thought it sounded good, but it was written in fun, colorful purple chalk as if it was a great thing I needed to try....aaaahhh...marketing mind games strikes again. Maybe it's too sophisticated for me. Place was fun. Service was great. Everybody is super friendly. Very nice vibe to it.
