My kids love this place, but I must say the customer service...particularly the manager...is terrible. I purchased a 10 ride ticket for $30 and took my 2 kids on a ride. Then they had to use the bathroom, then came back to the carousel within 30min. I noticed I lost my ticket and talked to the manager and told her my situation. She said "sorry, I can't help you. The tickets are numbered. Nothing I can do". I asked again and still nothing. I understand that I lost my ticket, but no one would try and "steal" carousel rides. I came back he next day and asked the same lady if she was the only manager...she looked at me and said "yup, I'm the only one" and then ignored me. Very disappointed in how the place is run and the lack of customer service. read more

Well done! Flying Horses is an antique carousel with a grab the brass ring feature that everyone enjoys. There's a small snack bar, it's not too hot inside and the lines are tolerable. Prices are pretty decent and the staff are very pleasant. I would recommend it for anyone with kids 12 and under. read more

What is cooler than the oldest carousel in the country? Exactly, nothing. My kids are 5 and 8 and loved riding it so much that we went back 3 times. If you're staying in MV for a week, just buy the punch card. It's $20 for 10 rides instead of $2.50 per ride. You can go on with your kids for free if you aren't riding and just standing next to them. Grabbing the rings is the name of the game and the highlight for the kids. They also have a small arcade area. I recommend the photo booth. Our family had a great time being silly and got a cute keepsake from the trip. read more

Great fun. It's a wonderful location, people of all ages enjoy it. It's a fun time, a really good price. I love it every time. Once the brass ring is dispensed, it's always fun. Grab as many rings as you can, but you can never beat the locals. ;) They always have more practice than anyone. I do think this a must on the island, Oak Bluffs has a wonderful atmosphere. This is a great place to bring little ones. You're right next to circuit avenue. I just suggest going there early, there tends to be a line. Enjoy going! read more

One of my favorite spots to take be kids especially on a rainy day. The kids (adults too) love riding this historic carousel and trying to grab as many rings as possible. Be on the look out for the brass ring that they put in at the end of the ride- if you get it, your next ride is free! There's an inner ring dispenser for the little kids and one on the outer circle for the big kids and adults. They also have a nice selection of arcade games. Check it out! read more

the very poor entertainment that is only open for the summer people. Other than the historical importance of the oldest Vic time piece, there is nothing special about it. It is definitely for WASPY young fathers. the babies do not have any clue how to play while ride the horses. It is located in the center of the noisy and unsafe(during summer season) Oak Bluffs and the local traffic and the cheap eateries around the area deteriorate the summer night scene and I would not bring my own family in this town if I had a better choice. just too plain for a fun ride. and a bad location. read more

My daughter Vivian is not yet 2 and she loves the "horses" as she calls it. My wife grew up here and would ride the flying horses all the time. The beautifully painted antique horses, the music box, the fun of grabbing as many rings as you can, and going for the brass ring (and the free ride that goes with it) makes it a unique experience. There are smaller horses and a second ring dispenser for little kids on the inside ring of the carousel. Even though viv could reach the rings she wasn't coordinated enough to grab them. It is a tradition and a definite must if you are in oak bluffs. read more

Well visiting Marthas Vineyard, you must make it a point to stop in on this attraction for kids and adults alike. This is the oldest carousel in America and is a true antique that needs to be ridden. It is old but well maintained including the brass ring game. It is only a dollar fifty a ride and truly remarkable with the old music box playing and authentic horses. Such a great ride for me and my 3 year old. The staff was very friendly. The horses don't move up and down like I thought they would but it did not take away from the experience. The ride itself lasted quite a bit- which I appreciated. Afterwards we walked around the arcade area and even won quite few prizes! They don't get 5 stars only because there is absolutely no air conditioning. The only air is from the moving carousel! It was still a great time. Definitely made some great memories. read more

You must visit the oldest carousel in the United States while on the Vineyard. It is fun for all ages. The price is reasonable for a ride or two and maybe you will get lucky and get the brass ring. Flying Horses is a fun touristy thing to do while shopping in OB or after getting a famous back door donut. Kids love it, adults love it, everyone loves it, no matter how many rides you do. There are less people later at night in my experiences with the carousel, during the day there tends to be lots of children which is to be expected. They have done a great job keeping up/preserving the horses and the ride itself. Definitely stop by when you have ten minutes to spare! read more

NOT just for kids! I rode the carousel with my husband and my daughters (19 & 21) while visiting the island. I tend to be a competitive person, so it was all about grabbing the rings for me. It is definitely worth the visit (and the wait if there is a line) to experience such a unique place of historic fun. We came to Martha's Vineyard with my parents who were visiting from Peru. My two year old son love horses, so we had to stop at The flying horses, it seemed like a great idea. The place is nice, well maintained and the cashier was very friendly. We decided to buy a 10 ride pass because we mistakenly thought that we could use three rides in a row. We didn't notice the sign saying that we have to leave the carousel and get in line for every ride. It makes sense. When my husband stayed in the carousel to wait for the second ride, the manager Tim Hurlburt, came to explain that we needed to leave and get in line. He was not nice at all, and he started to take the belt off my son, which it is a violation since my son is a minor. We went in line (my son is crying because he thought we were leaving). We realized that the pass was not beneficial any more and we asked for a refund and pay for the single rides that we used. Mr. Hurlburt denied the refund alleging that if he does that he would be unfair to the other customers, and also told us that we can use the pass forever. At this point, we felt that we were dealing with a robot. He was unreasonable and intolerant to understand that we made a mistake on buying the pass that we were not going to use and we wanted to paid for the single rides. He was completely unhelpful and he didn't resolve the problem. He certainly didn't loose the money for the pass, but he definitely lost a customer. Mr. Hurlburt doesn't have any knowledge about management or customer service. He made our first experience in flying horses the worst vacation experience. He ruined our day trip but he saved for the company $20 which is the cost of the pass. When I expressed my frustration saying: "thanks for ruining our vacation" he said "you're welcome" . How sad to notice that this great place it is being poorly managed. read more
