Fun retro styled arcade located on the main street in Newport. My "kids" (19, 22, and 23) loved coming here with their friends. My husband and I enjoyed watching them play throwback games and also enjoyed the virtual roller coaster ride. This is a fun spot to bring your kids or for a laid back date night with your significant other. It has 3 floors and a variety of games and machines. You'll actually win some stuffed animals on the claw machine (some places make it extremely difficult) I've been dozens of times and got several stuffed animals here. They are always replenishing the claw machine with fun and different items. It's in a great location with so many things to do. Visited Ryan Family Amusements with a few friends after dinner downtown on a rainy Saturday evening. We were very full from our dinner so we weren't ready for another restaurant/dessert/dink. Put $20 on our card and got a $8 bonus, so the total was $28 to spend on games and experiences. We were 4 adults and it took us about 30 minutes to finish the card. In the end, we had $0.99 left so the attendant let us load $0.01 onto it to make $1 flat! That gave us one more game to end the night. We earned about 650 points and walked out with a few super balls and lots of candy. Fun way to spend a bit of time, especially on a rainy day. Pro tip: skee ball is in the way back, up the stairs! read more

Our kid's love Ryan's it is small but they have a great variety of games and we've never found it overwhelming busy even though we go in the height of summer at times. They have a great prize collection which often gets switched up, so there are always new prizes. You can get bonus credits when you purchase a card with higher amounts. I like arcades and hope they stick around for a while. This one was crowded with games at the forefront of the game room which is great to get people to come in. It dwindles towards the back. The back has more of the appealing games for couples or adult games like air hockey, skee balls, pinball machines some racing games. I would love more of a variety, maybe a versus games or shooters but that's just me. And I think all the games require a player's card which is a bummer for people who just want to play a game or two and go. Overall Service: It's well maintained. We didn't interact with any of the staff but from just looking around, they were taking care of business here. read more

Interesting little place in the middle of Newport! They are super generous as my son's friend lost his game card and they reissued another one after we looks up the number and realized that some jerk found it and spent his points. A good variety of games- they even had ski ball! A little pricy for games but I suppose we are in Newport‍. Claw machines were pretty good. That's all these kids wanted to play. I'm sure we will be back when the kids remember we still have points to spend! read more

Located right in the middle of Thames- this was a nightly stop for my 8 year old throughout our vacation to Newport in June 2021. It is a small arcade that maximizes the best use of space. If louder, older kids get in the mix- it can be off putting to younger kids- but it was a never a major problem. There are enough parents with younger children to help maintain a kid- friendly environment. We usually vacation on the Jersey shore, so not having a boardwalk or rides was the challenge after dinner for entertainment for my kids. This arcade and a "rickshaw" ride back to our house served for very suitable entertainment for my kids. My son scored a box of Pokémon cards with his reward tickets- like I said- we went. Every. Night. He was VERY happy with this win given the shortage of Pokémon cards- we all made our "covid" sacrifices (rolls eyes). We will definitely return!!! read more

Pretty solid way to keep two kids occupied for 30-45 minutes for only $20 total. I really liked that the games are listed in prices instead of by points, like at Chuck E Cheese or D&B's. For instance, skee-ball is 79 cents here, as opposed to whatever 163 points is at the big chain arcades. Also, play some air hockey. $1 gets you either a 7-minute game, or first to score 7 goals. Kids had a blast. Small arcade but games were pretty fun for my kids ages 4,6,8 and 10. The prizes were decent and didn't overly rip you off with the point system. It does get crowded in there with little room to maneuver. Seemed like the only arcade option in Newport so we really had no other option. Always come here when we are in Newport. They have w greet selection of games and lots of good prizes at well & for a reasonable amount of tickets!! Last time we came here we walked out with literally a bag full of toys! The games are reasonably priced; especially for Newport but definitely higher than a lot of arcades. Solid arcade for all ages under 14. If you're looking for adult games like at Dave and Buster's you'll be disappointed.

My partner and I came here during our anniversary weekend and we had a total blast! It's a good place to spend some time in the evening when it gets to be freezing cold outside. Some of the previous reviews mentioned lack of Covid protocols and yes, that's definitely the case. I think not as humungous of a concern now that the world has gotten more used to Covid's presence. read more

A gem inside of Newport, which tends to cater towards non-kid owners... This arcade has tons of things for the kids to do, and the adults enjoyed everything too. The air hockey table brings me back, and the kids liked the newer style games too. Only thing I wish I'd seen there were pinball machines. I miss playing them. read more

fastest $20.00 you'll spend. The machines take odd amounts of change off your game card some you never can zero it out and most are over priced for the time alotted. It's fun for a bit to kill some time especially after a few beverages. The skee ball games are often missing balls, but air hockey and basketball and terminator are all ok. Don't count on using tickets for much we usually just give them to a kid to spend. read more

My brother and I visited Ryan's family amusements while on vacation. We ended up winning lots of tickets from playing the arcade games. Once we ran out of credits on our cards we went to cash in our tickets. I wanted to get 4 sour punch and 98 starbursts with my 1600 tickets, but one of your employees seemed really pissed off about my decision. This is not the attitude I would have expected at a family friendly attraction. I then counted my starbursts and discovered that I had only received 93 starbursts. I am disappointed by the actions taken by this employee and will not be visiting this establishment again. read more

Boardwalk arcade... what could go wrong? Well, a bunch. Buck skee ball and air hockey in the back, although half the ramps had scoring flaws and the $1 air hockey actually costs $2. Mention it to the employee to get a free shoulder shrug! On the plus, he comped us two skee ball games because of the 30 point ring bugs. She beat me both times, in case you care. The rest of the arcade consists of too large ticket spitters with a Dave & Buster's pricing scheme. Whatever happened to rounding off to the nearest quarter? Casual passers-by will instantly feel the rip when spending $10 on a player card only to have games cost 69¢, $1.17 or some other random amount that'll never add up to a double zero sum. In the end: lights blink, whistles blow and that 115 ticket nippled squish ball isn't going to win itself. You'll smile, just not ear to ear. read more

Really fun place! I haven't been in this arcade in at least 25 years, not since I was a kid playing PacMan and Frogger, but not much has changed over the years, playing the games is easier now, they use a card system, so much easier than carrying around a pocket full of quarters or tokens! Different games now, but still just a fun, my friend and I spent about an hour here, ended up with a ton of tickets between us too. I'm not a huge fan of arcades, but this place is probably as good as a local family arcade can get. While it is relatively small (there are only three small levels with 4-6 games on the last two levels), there are a lot of options in there. From classic games like skee ball and down the clown, to a strange piano game and crossy road (is it 2016 or something?), there is bound to be something in there for everyone. We spent a total of $10 in there, which allowed us to play roughly ten games since most of the games were $1 each (some costed $0.89, some a little more than $1). At around noon, the place was buzzing with restless kids and even more restless families. The only thing I wished that they had more of were shooter games. Overall, Ryan Family Amusement Center is a solid arcade with a variety of games and quite a bit of prizes to choose from. It's no Dave & Buster's, but it's not too bad for a small-town arcade. read more

We had so much fun here!!!! They have great games and there were not too many people to make me feel uncomfortable. Everyone stayed spaced out and wore masks. Been going to this arcade since I was a kid and not much has changed. Some of the games are still the same but they do have newer ones. The prize station looks the same too as back in the day with cheap prizes to expensive ones. There are 3 floors. Main floor has lots of games and some slot machines now. The second floor has games and an air hockey table. If you want to play skee ball, head up to the third floor. The claw machines here are impossible to win on haha. Ryan's now uses a card system instead of tokens/quarters and prices on the games have gone up. Something that costs 30 credits (30 cents roughly) used to be 25 cents. Oh inflation :( You can load up your card with money with the few machines they have there. Also sign up on their website for a possible bonus. Unfortunately, no bowling alley in this arcade like the others have but they still make popcorn daily! read more

The highlight: Elvira video game ride (Mad Wave Motion Theater) and trading my tickets for Goetze's Caramel Creams The lowlight: Fake Skee Ball (shaking my head) and the only working card machine kept breaking/not accepting dollars. (Probably a good thing, I would have stayed longer--and spent more money--if it didn't) My husband and I were in Newport for our anniversary. He saw an arcade, that meant we had to go in. I was won over by the prospect of Skee Ball. It was Halloween afternoon and we oddly had the entire arcade to ourselves. The "Ice Ball" was a big, giant bust (I'm a Skee Ball purist), but the Elvira ride was fun. The prices were pretty standard, but the photo booth was 5 bucks. Maybe that's standard now? I don't know. My affinity is for old, trashy boardwalk arcades (there should be a fortune telling machine out front, at least) and it's designed for kids but, as an adult no kids, it was still pretty fun. read more

No trip to Newport with kids is complete without a trip to Ryan Family Amusement. Right on the strip facing the water, it's a fun excursion downtown. The place seems clean and it is well lit so it doesn't feel like a gross cave if an arcade. There are fun games and motorcycle-type rides. Not too many shoot-em-ups or zombie type games. The place seems geared to kids more than teens which is nice. We will come back again! read more
