I asked them to leave them out but they forgot. Not enough dressing. Just blah. Can you come up with something tastier? Maybe put some roasted beets and sweet potatoes in for body. 2.5 stars. I have been here MANY times over the years. It's always been decent. Was just here a month or so ago and it's gone downhill. It seems the quality of people working here has taken a big dip. The cashier was a smart arse and didn't really seem to know what he was doing, the service was quite slow compared to the past, the young gal cleaning up the dishes was wandering around aimlessly in slow motion. I watched my group's food sit on the counter for a good 15 minutes for some reason. i think they were waiting for the last dish to be made? Who knows. The food was good, not great. This place is a dream come true for desserts. I had the chicken Cajun sandwich, it has some greens on it with a special delicate dressing that was unique. Such a bad experience today from the moment we stepped in the building to the time we left. The customer service was really off from all three people helping us. We came here for the overpriced Mac and cheese fully prepared to pay the hefty price tag but when it came out it was so bad. Usually it is delicious but this time it just tasted like buttered noodles with green chile. There was NO cheesy flavor and it was such a disappointment. I really like the Flying Star Cafe. Over the years they have removed 2 really great gluten free products. One was the pumpkin scone which had candied ginger and five spice powder. It was the best GF scone I've ever had. I wish that would return. It needs to be on the menu from September through winter months. The other GF product was the orange chocolate cake. I met up with a friend for coffee and we were able to grab an outdoor seating on a nice weekend afternoon. I like that they have a large space to sit and you can choose to be indoor or outdoors. Bonus that you can actually eat as little or fill your empty stomach depending on how hungry you feel, too. The only drawback was just...even though the place is in a strip mall parking space, even in the afternoon, I almost couldn't find a spot to park. Luckily, I found someone who left right when I was looking for a place for my car. I got the Verano Salad that sounded super refreshing: a summer salad with fried chicken strips in a mix of salad greens, jicama, roasted corn, black beans, avocado, and tortilla strips with a chipotle ranch dressing. But man, when I saw those chicken strips, they were just absolutely annihilated by the fryer. They were charred nearly black with the crispiest of coatings that could cut up the roof of your mouth. Which means...the chicken was dry as the Sahara. Not great. Service leaves something to be desired for. Not only did we see a few people there for pick-up orders having their orders mixed up, we had a few servers come up to our table to drop off the wrong drink, the wrong dish, and a To-Go order we never placed. Service is nearly always fantastic. Large variety of food options for all sorts of palettes and dietary concerns. The patio is a great spot if you can find a less busy time. Disappointingly, the dessert case was stripped almost bare, with only two cakes available and none of the delectable pastries for which Flying Star is known. The baguette on which the egg salad was served was very tasty however the egg salad was not my favorite and I can't pinpoint the underlying taste that I didn't care for.
