From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by how welcoming this place felt. I was greeted immediately by multiple employees, and the guy at the counter was incredibly friendly and personable. He even joked that they were "out of everything," which got a laugh and set a fun, relaxed tone. The music was rocking when I walked in, which I loved, although it eventually switched to something a little more mellow. Still, the overall atmosphere was inviting and made me want to stick around. I ordered an Iced Americano, and it was solid. You can tell they use quality espresso, but I personally would have liked it just a bit stronger. Next time, I'll probably ask for an extra shot to make it perfect for my taste. The real standout was the cinnamon roll. It had the ideal texture with a gooey, cinnamon-filled center, and they certainly didn't skimp on the cream cheese frosting. There was enough frosting to induce a sugar overdose, in a good way. The shop itself was clean, comfortable, and designed to make you want to stay awhile. They have a huge selection of board games and LEGO sets, so you could easily spend a couple of hours hanging out with friends or family. I also asked about the stage and learned they host karaoke and open mic nights a couple of evenings each week, which adds another fun reason to come back. Cool concept - lunch and supporting a non-profit biz with a mission. Everyone was friendly - employees & diners. The menu is simple with a nice variety of choices. So we ordered the Braised Pork Cuban and Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast with an iced Chai Tea. While you're waiting are table games to play and toys for the kiddos. Of course there's no rush so you can finish your game after food. Our food was delivered very well presented! I didn't expect this - it was a great surprise. The braised pork was excellent & came in between a "King's Hawaiian" tasting bun. The meat was tender and flavorful. The salmon avocado toast was stacked tall. The highlight was the breaded lemon cream cheese tomato. Memorable to say the least. Our meal was delicious with nice sized portions. It exceeded our expectation and in all honesty could have been served at 2-3 times the cost. This is a must do place for a meal. This is a fabulous little cafe. Games on a shelf. Small stage with a couple of practice amps & a drum set Lovely old piano. Good music on the stereo! What a rarity in New Mexico! My hot chocolate was good. My cinnamon roll was really excellent. Recently out of the oven helps a lot. Many event flyers. Clearly a place with both a mission and a place in the community. Saturday evening and I was on my way to watch a play at Musical Theater Southwest. A really wanted a latte, but not many coffee shops were open. Luckily Ancora Cafe was. A little off the beaten path, this cafe is fantastic. The food here was delicious; my breakfast burrito was hot and freshly made, and the coffee was simple and good. A group of us were at Ancora for a small get together. The place was nice. There were plenty of space for parking and it was not crowded (in a weekday evening) at all. P.S. Some of us had a hard time finding a cafe. It is to note that the parking lot is on Quincy St NE but the actual store front is on Copper Ave NE. Also, I guess because not many people go there mid week in the evening, they didn't have any food, just some commercial drinks in a fridge (and limited coffee selection...so...some of us left hungry). But overall, nice, quiet space for a private get together on a weekday evening! Good to support staff/community to get back to work, too! read more

My wife and I stopped in Ancora for a quick bite to eat for breakfast, and we loved every part of our visit! We were immediately welcomed by their staff and we could tell we picked a good spot. I had a drip coffee and she got an iced dirty chai latte, and we split their Orange & Walnut French Toast which was so delicious! Ancora is not only good on the outside, but good on the inside, too. This is a great community cafe. It's part of a sober space resource center for people in recovery. Sometimes these are the folks behind the counter, learning job skills and training. The team is always very welcoming and they try hard to ensure that customers have a good experience. They offer breakfast burritos & sandwiches, coffee, tea, canned kombucha, and a variety of pastries. The banana bread is delicious! I've gone a few times to work remotely for the day - they have a number of tables, outlets, and free wifi. There's also a nice outdoor patio, and stages inside and out for evening music & open mic events. There is free street parking along Copper by the cafe's front door, and a free parking lot around the corner at Perfectly Imperfect's main entrance on Quincy. Ancora Cafe is a bakery/cafe connected to the Imperfectly Perfect recovery space. Truly an awesome concept - it is a cafe that provides vocational training for people in recovery through foodservice and provides a welcoming meeting space for all. We had their smothered veggie breakfast burrito which was easily large enough for two. Their red chile was bold and complex with sweet, smoky notes and an almost mole-like consistency. The green chile had the right amount of heat and was a lighter counterbalance to the red chile. The burrito itself was delicious and noticeably made with care. The beans that accompanied it were well seasoned, not bland. Their coffee is very good. My wife's oat milk latte was creamy and well made. I enjoyed my tea. There are numerous other options such as GIANT tiramisu and cinammon rolls, which are sure to hit the sweet spot. We saw french toast served at another table and it looked so good. This is a wonderful spot for a great cup of coffee and healthy breakfast. My husband and I ordered the avo toast with miso and the traditional breakfast, both very good. My caramel latte was smooth and easy to drink, not overly sweet and just the right temperature to gulp with my meal. Colorful murals are nice eye candy to look at while you wait for your food. Prices are very reasonable and the staff are super-positive. Patronizing this place is a way of giving back to the community because the cafe functions as a job-training program for people in recovery who are looking to build a better life for themselves and their families. What a great neighborhood bakery! Finally popped in after driving by for weeks. They offer a variety of yummy looking muffins, decadent cinnamon rolls, cookies, sandwiches, and turnovers all made in house. There is even a GF muffin flavor! They also have a full service coffee side. I got a ham and swiss turnover and as I was on my way somewhere, elected to warm it up myself at home. I must digress, the turnover didn't make it to the kitchen table, I took a little bite while still in the kitchen and it was all over. Delicious and they've really nailed puff pastry!
