    Alumnae Happy Hour
    Helene S.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Fun place for an alumnae H-APP-Y Hour.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great turnout to support my alma mater and connect with collegiate classmates.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Lots of trays of appetizers. Fried pickles. Fried cheese curds. Bavarian pretzels and cheese. Nachos. Tater tots. Wings. Perfect snacks. (Although it took a while for them to bring out small plates). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Plenty of places to sit at the bar, high top tables or regular tables. Nice to have a large space sectioned off.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Had a variety of mocktails. Mint mojitos. Virgin margaritas. Cranberry mules. Thanks to the busy bartenders who accommodated special requests and modifications. Decent sized parking lot was available. Street parking also an option. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Fun place to meet for an alumnae happy hour.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

It was a cold and super rainy night, and I needed to eat somewhere that is "somewhat" close to the grocery store. I had previously tried to come here months ago, but it was closed due to your typical busted water main that forced them to close until it was repaired by the city. It was definitely worth the wait! We were greeted with a smile by the hostess, who ended up also being our server. We jokingly told her that we wanted to sit outside, and she said that was great, but she wasn't going to be our server if we did. While some may have been offended by the response, we actually thought it was funny because it was a smarty comment to our smarty request to sit outside since it was cold and rainy out there. Perhaps on a nice day, we will sit out side. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Surprisingly for a Saturday night, the place was not very crowded, which was fine by me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I started with the Old Fashioned for a drink and the chicken flautas. The flautas were tasty! They came with a side of guacamole, queso and green salsa. For my meal, I ordered the grilled shrimp tacos, which came with 2 tacos. The portion was just right and the flavor was great! My husband ordered the hot dog and he said it's one of the better hot dogs he has had in a while. We topped it off with the churros for dessert, but honestly we were getting full at that point. The churros, while not the best I have ever had, they were pretty good. They came with a caramel sauce on the side. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is spacious, clean and has a huge outdoor patio, so we are looking forward to coming here again soon.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

FM Burger (8oz) + bacon with totts

Great place for a burger! I got the 12 oz. It was nice and juicy. Decent size menu with a good variety to choose from. Next visit I'll try the Brussels sprouts, club sandwich, fried chicken sandwich, or green chili burger. It all sounded good! Ate at the bar and the service was fast and friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place has a sports bar vibe to it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also a great outside patio that accepts dogs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Feel like pickle ball? PKL Social is right next door and shares the same bar and kitchen. Bar menu looked good, but I didn't see Bloody Mary's. I didn't ask if they had them, but I was thinking that might have hit the spot.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat on the covered enclosed patio and the fans were on.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had a larger group so service moved a little slow but the margaritas were good and so was the spicy chicken sandwich. Also you have to get the fried pickles.

Really good, well executed food! The menu was simple American fare but sometimes that's exactly what you need. I felt that the ingredients were very fresh and seasonal, so my chicken sandwich felt like it was made with high quality ingredients. The batter on the chicken also felt reminiscent of Popeyes spicy chicken, and I loved that. The restaurant is in an area currently undergoing a facelift. There's a new pickleball joint next door and some storefronts across the street. There's a parking lot as well so it's fairly accessible.

We did not expect this. The place looks very laid back. It's one of the best New york steaks I've ever had. They have steak night on Thursdays, and I got one of the two last ones for the night. Great drinks and absolutely cool ambiance. Great place for sports watching. Our service was fantastic and amazing overall value.

Arrived on Sat at noon for lunch Reviewed business online first and also to scope out the parking situation since some places in Houston/Heights/River Oaks don't have private parking. Although they stated they had a huge parking lot it really is only about 60-70% marked and usable (see pics) They do not have entire lot marked with parking spaces and really need to have it redone as the spots they do have are very small and my small suv barely fit between the lines. A full size truck or suv would not fit between the marked lines but would still be able to park. When you walk up to bldg they have a huge outdoor space with tables, multiple tvs, covered and uncovered seating, fire pit and allow dogs which is pretty cool. Inside is a large open space nothing special with a few tvs on the wall near small bar area and music playing low as back ground noise. We were seated quickly and the waitress greeted us promptly and answered our questions and brought us waters. We ordered 3 items, 2 FM 8oz burgers and a brunch item chicken fried steak with eggs and hash browns. All the food was very good tasted great. Here are 2 odd things in my opinion and it wasn't a deal breaker but I may not return next time when want a really good burger. First when you look at the menu it states FM burger 4oz or 8oz, now I ordered the 8oz (1/2 lb burger) and was expecting a single 1/2 lb patty on a large bun. What I received was a small bun with two 4 oz pattys so basically it was a small double cheese burger! The smaller bun didn't hold all the ingredients well and is hard to hold and the double patties makes it a little harder to eat. A single 8 oz patty on a larger bun would be so much better. They need to fix the menu to state you can order a single or double but not have it read as if you were going to get a single 8oz patty. The other thing is they don't have sweet tea! I know it's not mandatory to have it but 90% of restaurants in Texas have sweet tea. Waitress did offer regular tea and sugar packets. I say if your gonna have regular tea then you need to have sweet tea also or don't have any tea at all. They have cokes/soda in cans so they could stock Arizona sweet tea as an option if they don't want to have to make sweet tea. Overall the waitress was great, service was great, the place has a cool vibe and laid back, not to noisy and we were able to have a conversation without yelling. I will return for a brunch meal or other item but not for a burger. I really love a great Burger but was disappointed with the FM 8 oz burger.

Good experience for my first visit! They have a nice outdoor patio that is covered with lots of TVs and heaters. Indoor space is pretty nice as well. Service was great - food and drinks came out freaky fast. I got the FM Club which was shredded chicken, lettuce, tomato on bread and got a side of tots. Decent quality and price! I would come back for sure!

The food was just okay nothing special got a grain bowl but it was more like a salad with some grains on top . like i said nothing special . The music was loud so that wasn't great but the place is cool on the outside and the greats are yummm

I can't believe I live so close and have never been here before! After a birthday disaster with The Toasted Coconut, these guys stepped in to rescue my birthday plans. They have a huge patio with plenty of seating both covered and uncovered, great happy hour specials, a solid cocktail list, and the Harvest Salad (excellent green goddess dressing) was one of the absolute best salads I've had in a long time. I've craved it and gone back a few times now just for that salad. We tried their brunch and the chilaquiles (my favorite) and chicken fried steak was really good. The drink prices are reasonable and they have a mimosa carafe special for $18 which serves the various options for juice on the side so you can make your ideal ratio, which I really appreciate!

We lost power during the May 16, 2024 storm and came here for lunch, AC, TVs, and the kind staff even charged my phone. Good service, good food, lots of TVs, and a solid music playlist. Great overall spot!!

So we walked on over to this little speakeasy and were immediately greeted by the bouncer. On a Thursday night, it was quite crowded, but were able to find the last remaining seats at the bar. We were seated at the left end of the bar, which was nice because we had our own little "nook" away from the rest of the bar. Adjacent to us was the server station - the one server tending to the tables, Marilyn, frequently came by and we immediately befriended her. She gave us excellent recommendations and provided her opinion on several drinks. Robin was the bartender who took care of us throughout the night. She was super friendly from the moment we sat down and gave us stellar recommendations on food and drinks. She was happy to tweak a couple of their seasonal drinks to our liking, and even offered to mix other drinks that weren't on the menu. Fantastic service from Robin throughout the night. I started out with Tommy's Margarita - this was just their take on a classic margarita, nothing super special. I then ordered the Oaxacan Old Fashioned - think of an old fashioned made with tequila and mezcal in lieu of bourbon. I was a bit cautious about this one since I am not a fan of mezcal, however the smoky flavor was not very apparent in this one, which was a huge plus! I also got the Ardilla - very unique drink made with mexican corn whiskey, cocoa nibs, sherry, and a milk punch. I award this drink for most unique I've had in a while, definitely give it a try if you're up for something new. To finish, I had the Cariña - their take on an espresso martini made with reposado tequila. I really liked this espresso martini - it was a great way to finish out the night and I left feeling inspired to make my espresso martinis at home using tequila now! With the little room we had left in our stomachs, we tried the Pato Tinga Memela, which was duck leg (no bone) with beans and onions and cilantro atop a memela. I haven't had memela specifically per se, but consider me a fan. It is basically a mini "cake" of masa that is pan fried to a slight crispiness. An Oaxacan speciality, where else can I find these in Houston!? We also tried the Guacamole y Tostadas. The guacamole was unique in the sense that it was Oaxacan style, so contains pepitas, pickled onions, and queso fresco. The tostadas were super crispy and reminded me of how they serve guacamole in Mexico (rather than with chips/totopos). Fun fact is that this bar is owned by Goode Company. Next door to this is Goode Co. Cantina, so it's nice that they created an adjoining restaurant + speakeasy concept within the same strip. At one point in our visit, Levi Goode was standing next to us. We didn't know until after he left and Marilyn informed us, that that was THE man. Just doing a casual check-in of his bar. We really had a good experience at Bar Buena and look forward to returning. The food menu has quite a few offerings I wanted to try had I not come from a cooking class. We were also told that the seasonal drink menu was set to change shortly after our visit, so I look forward to trying these drinks!

Clarkwood really does know what they're doing with these espresso martinis! I loved the added touch of the burnt marshmallow on mine, and the coffee seemed pretty good quality too. The second time I visited I also enjoyed their spicy watermelon margarita. Also amazing. It tasted a little bit like a spicy jolly rancher? SO good! They also let us know that if we posted and tagged them on our instagram, that we could receive a free round of shots. So, of course, me and my two friends posted to get some shots too. We were able to try the Mexican candy shot, the raspberry lemon drop shot, and the mini matcha martini shot. Honestly all were really good, but my favorite in order were the 1) raspberry lemon drop shot, 2) Mexican candy shot, then 3) the matcha martini shot. The matcha martini was good but as it's creamier, I think having it as an actual martini than a shot is more appropriate. Still, it's a great way to try a new drink and just sip on it rather than taking it as a shot. Also - the venue is so elegant and charming and such a cute spot for a date night. The music was a littleeee loud for me considering it's such a small space, but that's okay. Either way, I loved Clarkwood and will be coming back again :)

$200 to Get Cancelled On: A Masterclass in Hospitality…read more We had reservations for the 6:00 p.m. cocktail tasting in the Arc Room and were required to pre-pay $200--because nothing says "relaxing evening" like a firm financial commitment. Naturally, if we hadn't shown, we would have been charged in full. However, when we arrived right on time, we were informed the event had been canceled. Apparently, a text was sent. Equally apparently, none of us received it--nor did at least three other couples standing there having the exact same delightful surprise. The double standard was...impressive. The hostess was apologetic but clearly overwhelmed and not exactly presentation-ready (stained shirt, visibly frazzled), which didn't inspire much confidence that this was an isolated hiccup. The proposed solution was to seat us in the bar--with the added charm of a strict "out by 8:00" timeline. A bold recovery strategy for canceling a prepaid experience at the last minute. We ordered the Clarkwood gin and tonic and a lychee martini--both recommended--along with a charcuterie board. Neither drink made it to the finish line. The martini leaned aggressively sweet, and the gin and tonic featured fruit-infused ice that sounded creative but tasted...confused. It also arrived in a shade of neon blue that felt less "craft cocktail" and more "science experiment." The charcuterie board was, somehow, the standout disappointment. The almonds were oily, the meat had those telltale dried edges of something that's been sitting out too long, and the accompaniments included what appeared to be Wheat Thins and plain animal crackers. It was an unexpectedly nostalgic trip to a child's snack drawer--just not one anyone asked for. Overall, this might pass as a novelty stop for a 21 run looking for something flashy, but between canceling prepaid reservations, questionable communication, and execution that missed the mark at every turn, it's difficult to find a compelling reason to return.

The music was giving Sade, Stevie Wonder. Just smooth, grown energy. Not loud and chaotic, but not boring either. Perfect middle ground. I ordered the Fields Forever and it was SO good. Fresh strawberries in it, really well balanced. I ended up chatting with the bartender and even sat there crocheting, yes crocheting while sipping my drink. That should tell you how comfortable it felt in there. I also ordered the Chicken Caesar salad and it was pretty good. It came with a nice sized piece of chicken cut up on top. I did add a little salt and pepper, and I would have liked a bit more dressing, but overall it was solid. And I have to say this. The restroom was a 10 out of 10.
