We found this restaurant using Yelp for our girls' mini-reunion. It is a cute, mid-sized restaurant with a full bar that is clearly used as a meeting place for locals. Everyone seems welcoming. Food is pretty good. However the service is poor. Me and some co workers had visited this establishment 3-5 days a week for almost 2 months and no issues. But the night we invited the Mexican and black co-workers to come eat with us we started having issues. After that night, when we do go. the manager is extremely rude to us and we are only allowed to sit in certain areas. For the guys that smoke, god forbid you smoke outside in the parking lot and not right in front of the doors. The manager will go outside and cuss you and inform you that there is a designated smoking area... most respectful people tend to go to an open area to smoke and not in front of the restaurants entrance. I like to go to local restaurants instead of chains while traveling. Stopped at this restaurant that is also has a bar area. We were able to seat ourselves during lunch and chose a table neat the bar. I ordered the chicken salad plate with fruit bowl on the side. My compatriots ordered subs with either fries or onion rings. My meal was just the right size for me and the subs were huge with lots of meat and cheese. The fries and onion rings looks crispy. Very nice Italian restaurant conveniently located just off the interstate. Food is good, not exceptional but great for traveling families spending the night in Emporia en route to/from Florida. Visiting wonderful Emporia Va on an extended project. Was here a few years ago and back again. Fo Sho was on my lust of places where you can sit down and eat. First night ordered the pizza. Barf Looked and tasted like a cheap frozen grocery store pizza. Ate one slice and left to go to McDonalds. So, a couple nights later wanted a steak. Everyone in the area touts the steaks at their beloved Fo Sho. Ordered the famous Ribeye, cut at a local butcher's shop. Waffle House is better. Menu stated steak, baked potato salad and garlic bread. Got the salad then the plate with what was supposed to be a steak with the baked potato. The "steak" was about 5 inches diameter and about 1/4 inch thick. No bread and when I asked for it the very young bimbo waiting tables said: "Oh! You want the bread too?" It wasn't bad. So, this place is very much a local watering hole run by a bunch of hillbillies and frequented by much the same. Sorry Sadler's, but that's how I see it. My husband and I stopped in Emporia as we were on our way to Myrtle Beach from Connecticut. The manager at the hotel suggested Fo Sho, so we decided to try it, and we were pleasantly surprised. I took a drive from Roanoke Rapids and was wondering what to expect based on the variable reviews. I was pleasantly surprised. This is like a sports bar atmosphere with TVs and lots of noise. I and the wife have eaten there many times. Most of the time the pizza are good to great. However tonight was the worst meal I have had in long time. The pizza was cold and was one that had been left over and reheated with extra topping to try and cover the fact that they forgot to make what we ordered. Waitress confirmed it was reheated. Shrimp most likely frozen, tasteless and over cooked. My husband had chicken piccata that was smothered in onions??? A first for him. All he could taste was onion. Fried calamari was definitely frozen and thrown in the fryer. Scrapped off all the coating and it was rubbery. My toasted BLT was beyond dry. Crunchy toasted whhole wheat break. Bacon that was cooked hours ago and cold . Entire sandwich fell apart before I could eat it. Hubby ordered Chicken Parm and said he had never tasted the sauce at all . I have to trek down to the booming metropolis (read: truck-stop town) of Emporia regularly this year on business and have decided to patronize each non-chain restaurant in the area at least once. I'll admit to feeling skeptical about Fo Sho from its silly name alone, but from my visit tonight I learned that one can indeed judge a book by its cover. First, the ambiance, summed up in an easy equation: High ceilings + Metal paneling everywhere + The dueling noises of several huge TVs + Blaring country music + Shrieking toddlers with absentee parents + Cursing truckers at the bar = Hellish 20000000-decibel dining atmosphere. Additional entertainment was provided in the form of two obvious locals seated next to me, whose thorough verbal abuse of their poor server was appalling. Maybe they were feeling cranky because it was about a million degrees in this place? Anyway, they sent their food back before even tasting it, rudely informing the waitress that it was "the worst food we've ever gotten here," and complaining about the "long wait" of approximately 5 minutes. Then again, McDonald's does spoil a woman. Needless to say, I was curious to try my own food after the above-mentioned drama. My side salad of iceberg lettuce, shredded cheese, roma tomato, cucumber, and red onion was nothing special, but good enough and fresh. I liked the zippy Italian dressing, which seemed homemade. I was very perplexed when my eggplant parmesan arrived all by its lonesome on a huge plate. I asked my waitress where the pasta was and she seemed confused, but offered to bring me some. I texted a few friends to make sure I wasn't being crazy, but 5/5 agreed they would assume that an order of chicken or eggplant parm would automatically come with pasta. This iteration, a HUGE serving, was low average to average, I'd say. No meat was discernible in the meat sauce, and the pasta was overcooked. The accompanying garlic bread was nothing special either. My waitress was very sweet, but service took FOR. EV. ER. I had to sit pointedly staring at all staff who passed by for about 10 minutes before I managed to flag someone down for my check. So you're stopping off in Emporia and want a hearty meal at a local place? Here's my advice: head down the street about 3 minutes to Franken Stube for delicious, authentic, home-cooked German food that costs less than Fo Sho's bland, low-quality Italian-American offerings.
