This restaurant can be much better. I've lived in New York my whole life so I know the meaning of expensive. The vodka gnocchi was excellent and I have no complaints about that, but my boyfriend decided to get the special which was a sole Fish dish stuffed with crab meat. He didn't like it, and I don't like to complain so I decided to try it myself and unfortunately I agree with him. It was a tiny portion that was mushy. The combination of Potatoes wedges with the fish was not a good One. The staff was great. We didn't want to make a fuss, so we wrote the suggestion on the receipt. We were over at Natirer and debated going to 90 Acres for their limited bar menu or here. We decided to forget about the expensive drinks and fried food and come here. It was not our first trip. If it's a nice night the outdoor seating is terrific although the cars drive by. Pan fried salmon with carrots and spinach was done just right and was delicious as was the homemade pasta scampi with shrimp and crab. We have been to Focacceria several times and it never disappoints. The indoor space is a little tight but cozy. In warmer months they have a patio with comfortable seating. Although primarily Italian food they have an eclectic menu that will appeal to all. Everything is fresh with decent portions and amazing dessert options. It is a BYOB. read more

I've now been here three times. Twice was seated downstairs and once upstairs. Downstairs is a bit more intimate, but upstairs was nice as well. They have yet to disappoint us! We've had a number of different dishes from all parts of the menu, each time has been excellent. There is always a selection of specials, sometimes even some not on the specials menu. Last night, I had the Tuscan Onion Soup and Stuffed Pork Chop. The soup had some mushrooms and was lighter version of a typical French Onion Soup. The Pork Chop was absolutely delicious! A very large sized chop, perfectly cooked, and not overly sweet with the fig maple glaze. Hopefully this will return to the menu again! My significant other ordered Veal Milanese, also delicious. In the past, We have tried a lamb chop special, gnocchi special, Chicken special similar to saltimbocca, and a ravioli special. Apparently, the specials have always tasted fantastic! We also splurged on dessert twice, Affogato on the menu and, surprise here, a special of Bread pudding. Both were very rich and best split between us. Service has always been great. We met Nick, the owner, the first time, and he was very personable. His brother, I can't recall if he's a co-owner or manager, has been there the other times. Strangest dining experience ever! Reserved a table through open table for 8. Not seated until 8.45. No server until after 9.00 and no food until around 9.20. Food, when it finally arrived was okay at best. Clearly they were over extended - not enough staff for a busy Saturday night. This place is a family go-to for a reason. It's a BYOB with absolutely fantastic Italian food, a nice conversational ambiance and a service team that only makes the experience better. It's a bit formal for me at times, but hey that's just where I am in life. If the opportunity for a romantic date in the suburbs presents itself, I will look no further than Focacceria. As a party of four on a Saturday night, we asked to sit indoors. This seemed to flummox the hostess (who seemed to be about 17 and not sure about our reservation) who told us to stand in the vestibule. There was a couple waiting who were shown to a table by another hostess; there an older gentleman started arguing with her about why she was seating people there. A third gentleman came along and told the couple where to sit, and the hostess pointed us to a table. Gentleman number one started to correct her on that choice, too, and hostess ignored him and brought us to a table in the corner. That scenario perfectly describes our evening. Scattered, uneven service, four different people attending our table with no one introducing themselves, forgotten silverware and side orders, and everyone at our table having to pass plates over heads because there was no room for the servers to serve the food. The food wasn't bad, but it was only a week ago and none of it was memorable. That tells you something. The wine list is good, and the affogato enjoyable. That said, it was very overpriced for what we experienced and we won't be back. read more

So disappointed. We had reservations for Valentine's Day at 7pm. We arrived early only to get stuck in the closet sized waiting area. I guess we were better off than people who came after us who were stuck waiting outside in the cold. We were seated at a table for two upstairs that was actually an outdoor patio table with a hole for an umbrella covered by a tablecloth. We kept accidentally kicking the legs of the table causing water and wine to slosh everywhere. Our wine was opened immediately, which was appreciated but then there was a terribly long wait to put in our appetizer and main dish orders. We waited so long for our main dish that I actually asked the waiter if he could check to make sure it was in process and was told "I'll go tell the chef to hurry it up " People who arrived after us had finished their desserts and we're leaving before we got our entrées. The salmon was overcooked and the eggplant lasagna's noodles were gummy. By this point it was almost time for the next seating and instead of being able to enjoy a cup of coffee and dessert we were feeling rushed to leave so they could seat the next scheduled parties at 8 o'clock. I asked for a dessert to go and when we left there was a very very long line of People outside in the cold waiting for their 8 o'clock reservation. When I got home and opened my dessert container I found the smallest piece of tiramisu thrown into the tin. For what it cost I expected more especially considering that we were leaving to convenience their future customers who are waiting outside in the cold. I don't think we will return given the attitude of the waiter and the way they treated all their customers. read more

Meh...the food is just not that good. I don't know what other people go here to do but we were here to eat. My medium rare $30 flank steak was well done with strange fatty low-grade tendon-like inedible pieces throughout. My husband's veal scaloppini was overly heavy. Both meals had this brown gravy all over them and the gravy had sort of coagulated with a film on top of it. We were the first patrons of the evening with 5:00 reservations and even though we ordered right away our food took longer to receive than the food of other diners who had arrived much later. When I answered how the food was to the ugly bearded guy, he got very defensive and came back extremely rude and even insulting. Focacceria has a great deal going for it. But there's an important "but". On the plus side of the ledger are excellent food, very good service, and nicely decorated dining areas in an old house that has been converted to a restaurant. In addition, it is BYO. On the negative side is the management's inability to deal with crowds on the weekend. On those nights, the frustration of long waits and seemingly random seating is compounded by clueless front-desk hostesses and empty promises from the owner as he fields complaints from annoyed would-be diners. The solution for people who enjoy top-notch Italian food is to avoid going to Focacceria on weekends. The solution for the restaurant's management is to tighten things up in the front of the house before they squander the good will that the kitchen has earned. Bottom line: Five stars for cooking, three stars for front-end dysfunction. read more

Today I had an amazing dinner at this restaurant. I normally don't write reviews but I think this place really deserves one. From amazing staff and owner himself, the food was just delicious. On top of it it's BYOB so you can bring your favorite wine to pair with your dinner. I recommend the patio outside too which is so lovely during a nice summer evening. Just a quick update after our 2nd visit (my birthday dinner). I have to say, while the food was still delicious, our experience this second visit wasnt as great as the first visit. We ate inside this time because it was quite hot outside. It seemed that our waiter was either the owner or manager, however he was one of the LEAST personable people I've met. While he was filling my water, I mentioned to my sister how excited I was to have the eggplant lasagna. It was, after all, the whole reason we came here for my birthday dinner. I had been dreaming about it since our last visit. The waiter/owner/manager overhead what I said and replied "oh....we're actually out of the lasagna". He was so serious and unapologetic that I laughed and said "Are you messing with me? It's my birthday! We came here for the lasagna". And without so much as a smile or an apology he said "Nope...I'm serious. We ran out for the night already." Honestly, I guess I just felt that there were so many better ways to handle the situation and make me and my guests feel welcome (especially considering the occasion). I won't go into more details, but the service was just not very warm or efficient our entire evening. The food definitely makes up for it, but, I was pretty disappointed. We will definitely be back and cross our fingers that they have lasagna, and that the service is a little better. read more

Had dinner with some friends on a cool evening. We sat in the tent across the driveway from the main patio. They could have used two more heaters to try and equalize the temperature. The food was a bit late coming out of the kitchen but when it arrived it was very good. We shared the spicy fried calamari which was very good. We also had the sea bass and gnocchi in Alfredo sauce. I just went to Focacceria for the first time and loved their Osso Bucco on mushroom risotto. The meat was tender and full of flavor and the mushroom risotto was the perfect texture - not too soft and not too al dente. Kudos for the fresh baked focaccia bread - crusty but not too oily. It was our first dining out after three months of quarantine, and I was very impressed with this restaurant. We were seated in the tent that provided good protection from the relentless rain. Our food, grilled octopus and prosciutto to start, and then linguini with shrimps, tuna, seabass and clams pasta (there were four of us and we shared everything)were delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. The service was very friendly and attentive, and there was lovely live guitar playing just outside the tent to provide a nice background music. This place is now off out list of favorite summer places to dine al fresco. From the start, the service was terrible. We waited over an hour just for the salads and another hour for the meal. We were told they were "short staffed" but this was ridiculous. Once we ordered, we never saw our waiter again. After 3 hours, we finally got the check ( and we never did see a dessert menu either). We then asked to speak to the manager and let him know what transpired. The attitude was one I will never forget. He totally dismissed our concerns, knowing full well what was going on in this place. He became nasty and belligerent and when we said we will not be back, his answer was "I hope not". Well guess he'll get his wish! Neither I nor my friends, have ever experienced an attitude like this in any restaurant. Save you money and go eat somewhere else where they appreciate their customers.
