I don't have too much hair - but I still need to get what I do have cut to stay neat. Jennifer does a great job. I should probably get an appointment but usually I just drop by if it's been about 6 weeks since last cut and I happen to be in the area. If she has a male client already in the chair, I just go get a coffee at the nearby Starbucks and wait 20 minutes and come back. Usually that gets me in. This is the not the same focus hair as years ago. Jennifer, the best hair dresser at the old focus hair, branched off and started her own business and kept the focus hair name when the old business closed. Jennifer is the only dresser and hair cutter at the new focus hair. She's absolutely the best!! I have been getting my hair cut by Jennifer since 1988. I'm 46 years old and still get my hair cut by her every time. She's personable , prompt, humorous, and she does an outstanding job and has so many loyal long time customers. My regular barber at another shop was on vacation for 2 months. I needed a haircut sooner than later, so I swung by here. I walked in and was seen immediately. I described what kind of haircut I wanted, and she got started. I couldn't see the process, but what I felt was that it was all guessing and random buzzing and snipping without the use of a comb for accuracy. I won't lie. I was worried. At the end, I put my glasses on, and my hair was actually pretty good! The sides were rounded a bit, so I asked her to make the sides straight. She buzzed a bit more, and my hair was GREAT! No need to wear a hat for a few days to let the haircut work itself out!! AWESOME. I think this is my new haircut place... $15 for my (a guy's) haircut. read more

I have been a regular at Focus Hair for many years. Always a good haircut no matter which person I get. They have lots of regulars and know many of their customers by name. I used to take my kids there years ago when they were in elementary school. My kids are off at college now. I go in by myself but I'm still greeted with a friendly "Hi Daddy!" I have watched them work with many other customers. They are always so patient and listen carefully to get it right. From small children to senior citizens, everyone seems happy when they leave. I was a little shocked to see another review mentioning their English language skills. They all speak perfectly good English. Not sure what's up with that person. read more

The staff is awesome (: This is your all-in-one type of shop. You can get your hair colored, cut, and even get a wax and your nails done too. I love all the services they provide and I'm always so pleased with how I look when I walk out of this store. They always know how to keep their customers happy and entertained. I've seen some very difficult customers (I'm talking about customers who are completely unbearable and inappropriate) in this shop and they always manage to put their customers first and keep their cool, even when I know I would personally lose it. I have been going to Focus Hair for at least 10 years. They always do a very good job cutting my hair and sometimes do a fantastic job. They are always friendly and cheerful. The price for a standard haircut is fantastic $12, and well worth the price. Even though I've moved to San Jose from Sunnyvale, I still go back to Focus Hair to get my hair cut. Van Rocks!!! I'm a retired hair stylist and I am extremely selective on who cuts my hair. Van knows what he's doing. I also feel the other hairstylists in the shop are very good. English is not their first language, but they speak enough English for the client and the stylist to understand each other. I get an excellent haircut from him every single time. Don't be fooled by the price...excellent hairstylist don't have to be in an over priced Los Gatos or Saratoga salon. - The low price allows me to give a larger tip to the stylist. This is where I take my kids to get their hair cut. As much as I love those specialty kids' hair salons, $25+ per haircut adds up when you have 3 kids who need their hair cut every 4-6 weeks. We pay $10 per haircut (that includes tip) and we're always happy with the result, esp if we see Stella. Stella can do more complicated styles, like stacked bobs. Jennifer is also good for squirmy little ones because she's very very fast (you just want to make sure it's perfectly symmetrical, she's happy to fix anything you want) and Karen is fine as well. read more

I'm a buzz cut kinda guy, so I'm not asking for a whole lot. Sure, the workers are nice. I'll give them that. When you can't trim a straight sideburn, though, I get upset. Charge me $12 + $1.50 ATM charge + $2 tip (for messing up my sideburn) and I get even more pissed off. I've never refused to tip for a haircut, but there's a first for everything. I was lured in by the $8 kids haicut sign. They give an $8 haircut for boys but they will tack on extra charges for girls. They charged a lot extra because my daughter had long hair (and even though her hair is fine and about 1 inch thick in a ponytail). The irony is it takes them longer to cut the boy's hair than the girls hair. I decided to get my eyebrows waxed here once and it was expensive - but she did a good job. I've taken my kids there for seven years and always gotten thoroughly mediocre haircuts, that are rushed, uneven, but acceptable for $8/child. My daughter's hair is in a simple bob, but took twice as long to cut as her brothers because her hair is very straight. I took the kids in several weeks ago and they REFUSED to cut my daughter's hair because it took too long last time. "I'm sorry, " Jennifer said, "I don't know how to cut it." In other words, they didn't want to put the time in to do a decent job. It wasn't worth it for an $8 cut. Miserable customer service... and a poor way to treat a regular customer. I don't like giving a negative review since i only went once. It is possible that I would get better results on other visits. But I don't plan to go back considering my experience. To set the context, I have a simple hairstyle. I have been to several different places in the area, and even the cheap places are able to give me a good cut because I give very specific instructions (like "use the one and a half clipper"). The good: - My haircut ended up looking decent in the end. The bad: - I had to trim my hair again after getting home to get what I wanted. - The stylist did not cut it as short overall as I wanted. - My hair stands up on one side but lays flat on the other. The stylist said she could not cut it short on the "standing up" side. I have never had this happen. Usually stylists cut it, then see that it it is standing up, then cut it shorter to make it look right. - The stylist asked if she should trim off my sideburns. (Why ask that? Obviously I want them because I keep them trimmed.) I said I want to keep them, then she trimmed them off. - The haircut cost $13, but I would would value it at $5. I did not try to correct things at the salon, because of past experiences. More than a few times, I did not like the cut in the salon, but it looked good after going home and washing my hair. Because of this, I usually give the stylist the benefit of the doubt. Practically every cheap ($8) place I have been to nearby have done a way better job than this. Even if they screw it up, I am less disappointed because I went in for a cheap haircut. A higher price means higher expectations. I do not understand how the stylist just did not understand or did not listen to my instructions. I told her the usual things I tell people, and always get what I ask for. Again, my cut is very simple -- clippers on the sides and back, scissors on top. Sometimes stylists double check ("You are asking for a short clipper cut") since I go a while between cuts. But they always honor my request. And I would rather they cut it too short than not cut enough, because having to come back sooner is a waste of time and money. The stylist seemed to have a communication problem. But communication is one of the principle requirements for that job. It's been a week since my cut, and I feel like I need another cut 1n about a week. That would make my last cut a useless waste. read more

I love the price, convenience, quick service, and the non-chatty hairdressers. I take my two kids regularly here because of the $8 hair cuts for kids 10 and under. I get whoever is available since it's hard to go wrong with layering bangs and trimming my daughter's hair and buzz cutting my son's hair. I will more often than not ask them to either make it more layered or buzz cut shorter even when I ask for a specific length. I'll get my haircut once in a while here for $12, but I'm not super picky about my hair. I'm happy enough to keep going back until my kids want more stylish hair, but I have to confess no one has ever complimented me on my or my kids' haircuts. read more

Went to pay for the haircut after, the lady looked at the 20$ bill and snatched it from my hand, she did not tell me how much it cost for the haircut or what the tip amount was. Worst hair cut ever!!!!!!!! So I had my long hair grow for one year and only wanted a cut to make it slightly tidy and I even showed the Vietnamese lady a picture about what I want. What did she do?! Before I even notice, she cut my hair all short!!!!! WTF?!!!! She told me that's what I wanted: men hair, long look? WTF is this long look? It's plain short!!!! I've been going here for about a year now - about 6 haircuts - and I'm quite happy. Every time I've gotten a good haircut, for a mere $12. I wish the hair cutters were more talkative, but I don't think English is their first language. However, they understand all the important hair-cutting terms. Recently I have noticed that the stylist (who is the owner and the one who manages everything) does not want to offer the service. She was free when I reached and she denied to cut my hair. I went with another stylist who is very nice. I could see the owner sitting around and doing nothing. Another not so pleasant incident happened last week too. I was lured in by the $8 kid's fee, but this is an awful place. The staff was alright, but the quality of their service were TERRIBLE. My daughter wanted to get these sort of wispy side bangs, but the woman who cut her hair just chopped off a handful of her hair, saying that my daughter would look better with bangs in the front. To top this all off, the front bangs aren't even straight; it's like a jagged line! My daughter hates this new hairstyle and it's going to take a very long time to grow out the bangs since she has very long hair. Do NOT go to this place. read more
