First time repeat customer recently. They have much more reasonable prices than the larger chains and they seem more friendly. One thing about the larger chains that I don't like is that sometimes you get a trainee. Hair Focus seems to have all experienced personal. I've gone twice and gotten Kim both times. She's was detailed and didn't rush. She wore a mask, which I really appreciated. I recurved compliments from someone at work about my haircut! Highly recommend Kim. Oh man, Hair Focus... I have incredibly mixed feelings about this place, and I'll tell you why. Although their prices are incredibly low for South Bay ($8 haircuts), their profit margins aren't the only thing they recklessly chop away. Quality of haircut varies drastically between employees. I've had haircuts where my bangs were clearly uneven, and when I pointed it out to the hairdresser and asked if she could make them more even, she instead took away even more hair, making it more uneven. It was a super hairy situation for sure. The entire situation was super rushed and they've taken shortcuts like not tapering off my neck properly to shave off some time per haircut. On the other hand, I've had some great haircuts from some sharp barbers at a hair of the cost of nearby salons. In general, the male employees have done a better job with my hair than the female employees. (Sample size N =5) this may be coincidence, but I didn't want to cut it out of this review. read more

This review is just for Tony. I had an appointment at 2:30 PM today. I sent Tony a text message to let him know that I was running about 10 minutes late. I ended up being 15 minutes late and got in at 2:45. He was finishing up with another customer and when he was done, he looked at me, asked for my name, and then raised his voice across the shop and said, "You're hella late" while giving me a look. I was taken aback at his rudeness, like uh ok. "Yeah, sorry about that." I should have just walked out right then but I figured I just spent some time driving there so whatever, I'll let it go. He cleaned up the station a little bit and then had me sit down. He asked me how I wanted my hair cut, and I told him. Tony then got an attitude and started going off about how "you were 15 minutes late and you want me to do a bald fade and now I'm going to be this delayed for my appointment. Awesome blah blah blah" and he tossed his phone on the counter like he was so very upset. I was a little uncomfortable and not sure what to do as this guy was having his passive aggressive little temper tantrum. The hair cut finished. I went up to pay and he told me the haircut was $25. Ok, no problem. As my card was being run, he looked at the clock and had another little comment, "Yup, I'm fucked for the rest for the day. Wonderful." I'd be more upset about Tony's rudeness and lack of professionalism if it wasn't so bizarre in the first place. I could make excuses for him if he was fresh off the boat and he didn't know how to act or how to treat paying customers, but he's a man who obviously knows better than to act like a little kid in public. I noticed that there was no place to write in a tip on the receipt, so I started saying that I didn't have cash on me (and I was going to offer to tip electronically), but Tony cut me off before I could finish, turned his back, quickly walked away and gave me a "salute." Ok? I guess I saved a few dollars on a bad haircut, and it is bad. I got home and took a look, loose hairs hanging off and edges not cleaned up. Went their first time and had my haircut and beard from the senior man. It was okie. It was little hard to explain and communicate with him but it was still okie. This time i came in he was not there. The senior lady on the left most glass called me. I was trying to tell her how i want my beard to be. It was not easy to explain. When i was trying to explain Tony told her in their language that he will be finishing soon and he will take care of me. And the rest is history.
