Take a trip off the beaten path, down Occidental Road in Santa Rosa, and you will find Fog Crest Vineyard. Marked by a sign barely big enough to read, this winery, part of the Russian River Valley AVA, was established in 1998 and practices sustainable farming methods. Fog Crest's rolling hills provide excellent drainage, the south/east exposure allows for full morning sun, and the coastal fog keeps the grapes cool. This creates a "premium wine growing terroir" for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. My tasting started with the 2013 Rosé. The rosé is a light-bodied filled with berry aromas and is dry with moderate spice. I took a bottle home and paired it with salmon ceviché. It was delicious. The 2011 Estate Chardonnay highlights the vintage notes. 2011 gave us a wet spring followed by a cool summer, resulting in a smaller than normal crop. The low yield led to intense flavors of crème brûlée and pear making this my favorite sip of the day. 2011 was also a great year for Fog Crest's Laguna West Pinot Noir. The smaller than usual crop was able to take advantage of the only sustained ninety degree days of the season in September to accelerate their maturity. The low crop yields led to very concentrated and intense berries. Aromas of plum and currant with hints of spice and a silky finish made this my favorite Pinot of the day. read more

First thing that will impress you about this Vinyard is the view while wine tasting. They encourage you to sit and RELAX. For your wine tasting, they offer bread with an olive oil to dip it in. We mainly focused on Pinot noir but found some of their other wines very nice. The wine tasting room here is fairly new but has excellent customer service, that has vast knowledge of wines. Small, hip & fun winery in West Sonoma. We came here on a sunny Saturday afternoon and were one of 3 couples there. They play great music, you can pre order lunch and its dog friendly! We loved this winery. First of all, the wines are exquisite. Second, the service is amazing. The tasting room has a beautiful patio overlooking a nice lake. We cannot wait to visit them again. We just recently attended the Valentine's Day dinner and everything was delicious. 5 dinner course with Wine pairings. The staff never let our glasses empty. They let us try different wines. The winery only produces Chardonnay and Pinot and you don't need anything else. The wine maker was present during dinner and made sure to speak with everyone. Great job! read more

Our stop at Fog Crest was definitely the highlight of our trip and will be for yours too! Aside from the brand new tasting location and vineyards, breath-taking views and lush atmosphere... their wine is really really good! What made this experience even more memorable was their accomodating, "go out of their way to please" type of service. We were invited to a table outside to eat sandwiches that we packed and provided everything we needed to make it a memorable occasion. I reserved a "gourmet" lunch of assorted sandwiches for my anniversary 4 days before the event and then at 7:30 pm the night before Ms. Manoogian called me to say her system had taken a reservation it should not have and she was cancelling my reservation. I called to inform her that I had made the reservation 2 full days before their 48 hour cutoff and she proceeded to blame their "system" but still refused to honor the reservation that I had prepaid to the tune of $257 ! Supposedly she is going to refund the payment but I'm not holding my breath. This is a hell of a way to run a business. I will never patronize this establishment and urge anyone else to stay away from this shady business. Now I have to find somewhere else with absolutely no notice. This is between 4 and 4.5 stars. The winery is relatively new; I believe it has been open for a year and a half or two years. We enjoyed the tasting, which was comped with purchase of a bottle, and brought home the rose on the tasting menu. We enjoyed speaking with the staff (a young woman with dark hair), and loved her insights into the area. The tasting is served with complimentary bread and olive oil, which was a lovely touch. The estate is breathtaking, and the back patio was a gorgeous place to sit with our glasses and take in the surroundings. read more

Super nice view and very welcoming staff at Fog Crest Vineyard. I liked the Rose despite it is not that kind of wine I usually prefer. Pinot is also good. Here you will be offended 5 types of wine: Rose, 2 kinds of Chardonnay and 2 of Pinot for a 15$ tasting fee. And as usual, if you buy any bottle the cost of tasting fee will be vanished. read more

Amazing! This tasting room just opened up about a month ago. It is so beautiful inside and out. Inside there are comfy couches with an amazing fire place, with a beautiful tasting counter. Outside there is a patio with a spectacular view of the Santa Rosa laguna. Paula poured two estate Chardonnays and two estate pinots that were awesome. Paula was knowledgable, entertaining, funny, my hubby and I could have spent all day there because we were having such a good time. They even have cheese platters and wine by the glass if you want to just sit and enjoy the patio. An all around wonderful experience, I definitely recommend this winery! read more

This was, hands down, my favorite stop out of all of the wineries my husband and I visited on our honeymoon last week. On top of the breathtaking views and delicious Chardonnay, the service here is beyond compare. If you are lucky enough to speak with Oliver, I'm sure you'll have a similar experience. Oliver sat with us for probably 25-30 minutes going through all of his top recommendations for local restaurants, wineries and breweries- actually writing each recommendation down for us until it filled up 2 full pages front and back. At every other winery we visited, people were warm and friendly to an extent but I truly felt welcomed in like an old friend at Fog Crest, and if we had to choose just one spot to head back to in Sonoma County, this would definitely be it. read more

I would say this is one of the worst wineries in Russian river. 15 of my friends came here to do the tasting and they were super rude. They asked my friend who had her 10th wedding anniversary to check in before going out to the patio and told her the only thing she could do was Use the restroom. I mean who talks like that ? This obnoxious guy needs to be fired !! They also served me smaller portions of wine tastings than everyone else. I mean I don't know how this business is surviving. Then someone else spills the wine and they again acted out on another one of my friends when she was simply trying to help them out. I would never recommend this winery to anyone because of the poor service. read more

This is what wine tasting should be. At Fog Crest you get to sip delicious wines at your leisure while sitting outside on a patio overlooking a truly decadent view. They even bring you bread and olive oil to go with your tasting. If you want a relaxing wine tasting experience this is your place. Oliver guided us through our tasting and in the end my husband and I were like "can we be friends with him?" He was awesome. He'll give you all the info about the wines that you want but only if you want it. If you'd rather talk about beer or where to get lunch or the best 90's hip hop music, he'll be happy to advise you in those departments as well. This was a great little find on our recent trip to Sonoma and Napa Valley. This was our last stop on one of our wine-tasting days and it was our favorite. Another local winery recommended it and I am so happy they did! There was only one other person out on the patio when we arrived and he left halfway through our tasting, so we had the place to ourselves. Beautiful view of the Russian River Valley...great service and excellent Pinot Noir and Rose! They also served us some wonderful bread to go with the wine.
