Not welcoming. We arrived on Tuesday morning at noon with a great picnic. No other customers in the place. We were told not only were we not allowed to eat our picnic but that they also had no food available for purchase that day. This winery is less than a mile from our home. I'm used to friendly Sebastopol service, this winery is not one of them. Avoid. There's much better in the area. read more

This was a beautiful day for a drive, we came across this winerie and decided to sample their collection . The drive in was pleased, along the rows of vines. At the entrance we encounter the court yard with a pleasant aroma from the garden. The first thing that caught my eyes was this spectacular view of the valley below. We failed to make reservations (because we didn't know we were coming here) and they didn't run us away. They worked us in. Rosaland greeted us, she was very pleasant and got us settled in... we later found out she was the owner. The service was equally delightful as the view from the terrace. Rachel was our main server, she was knowledgeable and a delight to talk with, Paige was equally helpful and quick to see that we had what was needed, serving fresh bread and oil to enhance the tasting. All the wines we tasted were very good... our favorite were: 2019 Rose and 2017 Chardonney. All together they made our visit a memorable event!!! read more

As a result, I've updated my rating. ------- I arrived at Fog Crest this afternoon at 4:18. I checked my watch because I knew they closed at 5:00. This is the conversation I had with the man behind the bar: "Welcome to Fog Crest. Do you have a reservation?" "No. I was hoping to do a tasting." "We're closing very shortly. Would you like to sit inside or out?" I said no thanks and left. It's a shame, because it really is a beautiful spot. But I'd rather visit wineries where the people are welcoming and eager to share what they've made. And there are dozens like that within a short drive of Fog Crest. read more

This place is one of the most friendly and accommodating spots around! My husband and I came in for a tasting and got incredible service and hospitality. Neither of us are particularly wine connoisseurs and are coming from Denver, so they knew we wouldn't be wine club members. However, each wine was described in such detail that we truly learned a ton! We also got a great book recommendation that we're exited to learn more from. This visit was our 6th or 7th over the years. It is a great place to relax and enjoy excellent wine & pu pu's. Very accomodating host to both canines and humans. The spot to spend part or all of an afternoon in "wine country". Tranquil. You can talk story with friends and family, watch the grapes ripen, or the hawks soar over the vineyards. Most chill with excellent wine. A plus is the Bohemian Creamery is a neighbor with awesome cheeses that makes for a great two-fer. read more

Great service & views. The wines weren't so good. Their signature wine is Rose & Chardonnay. I love a good Rose but this one had no flavor to me, my palate just didn't take to it, so that was a disappointment. Although, their Pinot Noir was good with flavors of blackberry, plum & a earthy finish to it. Took that one home! They have been operating for 3yrs, so they are fairly new. The Russian River Valley is more of a family owned & operated wine country were you can find some well priced wines, this winery had prices outside of the norm for the area. Fog Crest, you have some of the best staff in the business there. I imagine it must be challenging to describe and hopefully sell the wines without it sounding memorized. Not here. Oliver's enthusiasm for your delicious wines is authentic, never pushy, always knowledgable. We joined the wine club not only because of the beautiful rose, but because of the staff. The Laguna Chardonnay is my favorite. It's light and crisp and will be served tonight alongside chicken breasts stuffed with herbed goat cheese. The Pinot noirs range from range from bright and fruity to the slightly earthy and haunting (estate). This is a winery to bring friends to. read more

The relaxing wine tasting atmosphere. You don't have to stand at the bar to taste. The staff will bring wine to you outside or inside wherever you are sitting. 3. The really, really good wine. Really enjoy this place! The pinot is delicious, the rose is a treat on a hot day, and even the chardonnay is tasty! (and I'm not a huge chardonnay fan. :) They have a wonderful outdoor patio with music and lovely views of the vineyards, birds, and butterflies. Stopped in to finally check it out on the way home from work and grab a bottle, as a place to bring my banking executive and physician clients that visit from around the US. I had a banker with me whose wife is employed in the industry here. It was 4:50 on a Friday, so I didn't expect much and not necessarily even a tasting, but our greeting was "We're closing shortly so I suggest you go try The Barlow for tastings", by a tall guy in skinny glasses who actually stepped out to block our entry. Really? Not even a "Hello"; not even a "sorry we're closing soon and are already closed for tastings but can I offer you a brochure?". I had to ask for a business card just to be able to make this post. He gave us someone else's card (Nessia). He's my nominee for the award for Worst Customer Service Person Ever. My banker friend was aghast. He said it was the worst tasting room encounter he'd ever experienced. We laughed about it all the way home (not far). No way would I take a chance on an experience like that with a client. That's why I always check places out first. Plenty of other great places I can take my clients around here. Whether or not you were having a bad day or something; no second chance for a first impression dude. I hear the view is nice. read more

The view from the patio is beautiful, but that is the best part of the tasting- which was $15 per person. Their least expensive and most popular wine- the rosé- is only available to club members. The other wines are good, but pretty pricey. I understand that they're a small production winery, but it seems like a way to build a better following would be to make good wines that people feel good about spending their money on. read more

Beautiful view, wine, and service! I have been here about 8 times since a close friend 1st recommended this winery about 14 months ago. Which is a lot since I live in LA. Whenever I am home I make it a point to stop here. I brought my BF here back in May and he loved it so that we joined the wine club. I just wished we lived in town so we could attend all the events. On day the timing will work out. *finger crossed* I love sitting out on the patio. Nothing like sipping wine in the sun while looking down the hill on the stunning property. Started our day here, and this place truly made sure we started the day as we meant to go on. There were a group of about ten of us out for wine tasting, and got here not long after they opened. They were so accommodating and not only poured us everything on their menu, but also a few extra pours of whatever they had open (which definitely secured them a few extra sales!) We came the day before they started pouring the rosé, and we were gutted that not only couldn't they pour it, but they couldn't even sell it to us as it wasn't on the system yet. ALL of the staff were wonderful. Had a great time here and will definitely revisit at a sunnier time to enjoy the patio and the hospitality some more. read more

I am not a white wine lover, but do taste them, as I use them to make some chicken dishes, and also for my risotto. Very first Chardonnay we tasted really blew my mind! All three in our party bought a bottle., it was that fabulous! All of their wines were lovely, but we could not afford to buy them all, so had to pick a favorite. In addition to their chardonnays, they have some lovely pinot noirs. Big shout out to Nessia who was so knowledgeable about the wines and their winemaking processes. Thank you Nessia! The wine tasting fee was very reasonable, waived per bottle purchased. The views from the outside patio are gorgeous, the tasting room is so pretty and tastefully decorated. My gf and I visit Sonoma County twice every year. Once during barrel tasting and once over the Summer. Fog Crest is usually our favorite stop because they have a great view and ambiance. Unfortunately, this place has gone down hill. What happened to the funky music and friendly young people who used to work here? Anyway, prices are definitely higher. The new staff did not tell us anything about the wines and really did not make any effort to wow us. We had to ask for bread/olive oil halfway through the tasting and go to the bar for our splashes. This was not the experience we were hoping for. One of the guys poured us a $70 pinot that was not on the list, but it was not good to drink anymore. It had the date 3/1 (a few days ago) written on the back label and we thought it tasted like vinegar... When I said something about it, the server told me I was wrong and that he could not open a fresh bottle because they don't make very much. There are so many better wineries that sell the experience... I would recommend Square Peg, Iron Horse or Lynmar before I tell anybody to visit here. read more

I found fog crest to be very welcoming when I recently visited. Several Chardonnays and pinots which seem to be awarded in the very competitive category of "expensive Pinot noir" at the sf chronicle wine competition. Dynamite view, very sharp and attentive taller host gentleman. Lots of folks from Sebastopol seemed to be here buying wine, so that's a good sign, right? Lots of good wine in their backyard but the came here. The one star "local" reviewer should know that showing up at a winery right before they close is kind of impolite! Rookie move! I used to love coming here. Joe, Oliver and Cooper really made the feel of this place different than most wineries. For some reason or another the owner decided to get rid of these guys and bring on new employees. The new people can't even describe the wines. When I used to walk in here the guys would recognize me as a club member and I'd be helped immediately! Now they ignore you until it's convenient for them to acknowledge you. I feel the ambiance has changed. I doubt I'll be keeping my membership here. The wines this year are a little too young and don't have the same quality that they did when I joined. read more

A day in Sebastopol began with a tasting at Fog Crest. Our friends made an appointment for noon and we were the first people to arrive that day. We were hosted by Robert who asked our preference for indoors vs. outdoors; it was just chilly enough that we opted to sit on the couches by the gas fireplace. He brought out some french bread and olive oil with herbs, then proceeded to the tasting. We were served their three Chardonnays and two Pinot Noirs. They were well-described, both in terms of vineyard location and winemaking (barrel regimen, etc.). We were left to enjoy our sips and chat in the cozy space. The outdoor patio has several tables and the view over the vineyard is very nice. The five wines that we tasted were all very good, and were truly distinct. I'm not enough of a fan of the more expensive examples of Chardonnay in general, but I found their pricing to be reasonable compared to other wineries in the area. A wonderful tasting experience overall. Highly recommended. read more
