Folk Thai out there helping to support my takeout lifestyle! I've actually never heard of or seen Folk Thai before despite visiting downtown many times, yet alas Yelp Thai searches in the downtown area led me here for dinner after work. Take note the address is listed for Main Street, however the main entrance is actually on Walker Street. I arrived around 7:30pm after placing my takeout order online and was surprised to find the lights on, the restaurant completely empty, and the door locked. After rattling the door a little bit, a gentleman came out from the back and unlocked the door from the counter with a clicker. When asked, he said that they keep the door locked in the evenings since the staff are often in the back and Main Street is notorious for *characters* wondering the streets. I ended up ordering a Thai favorite, Tom Kha soup, and something new to me, the Thai cashew nut stir fry. Both were prepared hot (temperature), fairly flavorful and each with a surprising variety of veggies. I prefer the Thai cashew of the two dishes as the Tom Kha is what I would consider a slightly more nontraditional version with beech mushrooms rather than larger cap mushroom, and no lemongrass or kaffir lime leaves left in the soup. Despite this, it was flavorful with strong lime notes. I do appreciate the fact that all selections on their menu can be customized based on protein or veggie preference. While they maybe busier during lunch to cater to the downtown workforce, I was a little sad not to see anyone inside of the restaurant. They have a nice well lit, clean, sitting area with modern decor. Well it's not at the top of my list, their takeout was fast, satisfying, and reasonably priced. read more

I think this was the Mango Tree or was it called Red Mango spot? It's a popular quick sit down lunch spot on weekdays. The food used to be quick and cheap; the cheap part doesn't apply anymore. The beef pad Thai was $18 and didn't taste $18 at all. It was an alright version of pad Thai but definitely not very traditional or cleanly executed; it tasted like a mall food court version to me. For the price, there are more competitive lunch options in the downtown area. Service was quick and minimal as you would expect. The spring rolls were pre-made and a solid 2.5/5 for being quick (probably also pre-cooked). Also beware, their $6 coconut water is just an actual thing of Vita Coco (like those you get from Costco). read more

The definition of American Thai food. The familiar favorites with mix and match proteins able to be added to the dish. There's a number of noodle, rice, and curry dishes to choose from and all of them come with a spring roll and tofu soup complimentary. Service is quick and helpful for those quick work lunches where you need consistency and price that is fair. I like the names update and interior changes that have been made since Covid and it makes the whole space feel cleaner and more modern compared to the old set up. read more

Chicken Pad Thai - Flavor was ok, but nothing stood out. Noodles were cooked well and the veggies were fresh. Service was standard. I asked for extra spicy based on the reviews and it was probably a medium. I asked for some dried pepper flakes and added that to get it to where it was spicy. read more

Very clean place. I went late at night and was surprised there wasn't many customers inside. I had the shrimp pad Thai and crispy chicken egg rolls. Egg rolls were hot and crunchy. The pad Thai had the thinner noodles which I was surprised since I've never seen those same noodles in pad Thai at any other Thai restaurant. The noodles were overcooked and maybe it's because they were so thin. The flavor was ok given the overcooked noodles. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the side of rice was very big and worth the additional price for it. read more

I'm staying downtown, I seemingingly missed the closing bell for when everything closes. They are open til 9 and the guy was super nice even it less than an hour before closing. I order the pineapple rice with chicken medium spicy and he says 10 min so I get moving. Made it back to my hotel. It was well contained + styrofoam and still piping hot. You guys, this is the best pineapple rice with chicken that I have ever had. The spice is not siracha but tastes great with all the other flavors going on. It tastes like they spend all day crafting it and it took 10 min. The spice is not overbearing, it's not greasy/oily either. It's perfect! I was going to save half for my trip tomorrow but I don't think I can it's that good. Thank you guys! You made my night! read more

We stopped by here because our car was parked in the garage across the street and we were hungry and craving Thai. Absolute GEM! Our server was super sweet and sat us right away, drinks came out right after. Service was overall quick! The ambiance was peaceful and very private as we were the only ones for the first half of our meal. We got the egg rolls, FIRE! 9.5/10! They came piping hot with a yummy sweet chili dipping sauce. I got a Thai tea and my husband got a Perrier. I really liked the Thai tea, definitely a 9.5/10! I got the Tom Yum shrimp, I loved it! 9.5/10, one of my favorite ones out of the 20+ restaurants I've tried over the years! This location in downtown has been known to be the go to for Thai food, despite for change in names and possibly owners the past few years. I visited this place again today for the first time since the pandemic and was first surprised with the modern interior in comparison to its past state. When we first arrived, we were the only customers in sight, so we received some good attention in taking orders and our appetizers/drinks. Once the place became crowded, I was impressed that they still consistently paid attention to our needs and made sure we were able to finish our business lunch efficiently. The food came to the table fast, in large quantities and was very tasty. I ordered the classic pad Thai and asked for a combination of beef and tofu and was surprised that they didn't turn down the order as other places might have due to complexity. Along with the pad Thai, I ordered Thai tea and a mango sticky rice for the table. Both were delicious and good portions. The Thai tea was a bit overly sweet, but that might just be me. The reason for the four stars instead of five is because the price for thai food appears to be increasing at rapid speed, and the pad Thai was somewhat sticking together. I really wanted to like this place, but my recent experience was beyond unacceptable. I ordered the basil fried rice, which looked great at first, but halfway through, I found a ROACH. Yes, a roach. I'm absolutely disgusted. I didn't pay for "extra protein."  I told the staff, and while they didn't charge me for the meal, their reaction was almost as unsettling as the roach itself. They didn't seem shocked or apologetic, which makes me wonder how often this happens. Cleanliness is key in a restaurant, and if they can't keep their kitchen roach-free, I dread to think what else is going on back there. I won't be coming back, and I seriously recommend others think twice before eating here. What a shame. read more

Located downtown. Food is generally good but, as with everything, prices went up. However, it's a treat for me when I'm craving yellow curry. You still get a cup of soup and mini eggroll as an appetizer. Service is great eventhough there are days this place stays busy. Tunnel access as well, convenient fir those scorching summer days or those rainy mess days. Place is maintained pretty clean. read more

Absolutely delicious, fast and service is top notch! Most of our table samples the different rice fried rice dishes and one person ordered noodles. We had a variety of spice lovers and everyone agreed it was just the right amount of spice for them. When we sat down we were served a small cup of soup and a crunchy spring roll. I really like this restaurant and it's a nice addition to the downtown lunch scene. We went there earlier this week for a quick lunch and got the crab fried rice, the fried egg rolls, and the panang curry. The curry was straight up awesome! The crab fried rice left something to be desired and didn't have much flavor, but I haven't had many crab fried rice dishes at Thai restaurants so this could just be me. Egg rolls were great. Atmosphere and ambiance is where they are lacking. Chairs and tables make it seem like a deli atmosphere, but the food was delicious. I would definitely consider making a stop here. 8.2/10 read more

The coconut soup was very delightful and very good customer service. They also have a little grocery store attached to it.

Meal starts with a small bowl of tasty broth and a small egg roll. I ordered the panang curry which was delicious. I feel this is becoming my comfort food of choice. The location does get crowded at lunch time. I did think it was a bit pricey and I didn't notice any lunch prices. Stopped in during the week right before the lunch rush at noon. When my friend and I arrived, it was already a bit busy but we were seated right away. Once seated it got busier. Waiter was friendly & took our orders, we both got the spicy chicken Pad Thai. As we waited a bowl of what I believe was Hot & Sour soup with a small veggie egg roll was brought out as an appetizer. I missed taking a photo, but it was good, not to salty and enough to help hold you over for when the main meal arrived. The Pad Thai didn't take long after to arrive, it is a good portion that we both had leftovers for dinner. Everything was flavorful, chicken wasn't dry, the only thing is it wasn't spicy just had a bit of a kick. Didn't take away from its taste. Possibly could've asked for chili sauce to add. The place has been open for a month, so it's still working out some details but nothing that takes away from it's charm, open ambience, good service and delicious food. I'm town for a convention and my friends and I wanted Thai. We found this restaurant on yelp and thought it looked good. The staff was friendly and super helpful! We ordered edamame and veggie rolls for appetizers and they were so flavorful! For dinner we did the pad Thai, fried rice, and cashew beef and all three orders were amazing! Side note, if you ask for regular spicy, your mouth and lips will be tingling for and hour after the meal. If you are spice adverse, order it "no spice" and then add your own for flavor. read more

Order most common dishes we eat regularly at home. Papaya salad has no taste very bland and this lao style should be more pungent because we use fermented anchovies in the salads. Bamboo shoot soup aka "kang Nor Mai" has way too many wood ear mushrooms and lack of herbaceous we see in lao cuisine. The order came with no utensil's so I have to call room services to bring us some. read more

This place is overrated. The food is good but the service is terrible. The first time me and my co-worker went, we ordered and i received my food first and then had to wait another 15 mins for her food to come out. Then again we went and this time her order came out first and I had to wait another 20 mins for my food. Like wtf! Our food should come out at the same time! Just enjoyed the stir fry dinner of Thai Cashew Nut. I usually order the Yellow Curry but tonight, I wanted to try something different. The Thai Cashew Nut was recommended over the other stir fry I thought I wanted and as always, the server made a very fine suggestion for me. I so wanted to have enough for left overs but alack and alas, it was so good that there was not even a cashew left on my plate tonight. Gluttonous perhaps or was it just too damm GOOD? I am inclined to think the later. This dish along with all the others I have enjoyed, will take me back to this restaurant.
