Beautiful location, but worst service I have received. Called 2 months ahead and asked for reservation for 17 girls for a bachelorette party, but was told no reservation was needed. When we arrived we were told we needed a reservation, but would be put on a wait list. 1 hour later we were still waiting. Went to check on the table and was told sorry nothing they could do. We were sitting at a vacant table for an hour and easily could have been served. What a loss for the company. Bianca the manger was rude and didn't try to help us out or apologize. Went there yesterday (Sat, 6/11/22) to enjoy the music of Two Rivers 2-man-band in the ambiance of this lovely setting and great 3PM-5PM menu. Experience exceeded all expectations. Family-friendly winery with outdoor seating, music, food variety. We came for brunch (reservations and deposit required) and had the Danish waffle and corned beef hash, along with the sparkling rose and red wine flight. Waffle was served with Bakers bacon- (never had it before) super thick and a bit fatty but all rich and tasty. I couldn't finish it! Also came with butter and a flavored honey. Waffle wasn't as warm as I would have liked, but the flavors were delicious! The sparkling rose was a great light accompaniment. Corned beef hash included a lot of other ingredients - potatoes, mushrooms and other things. Topped with an egg- menu says 63 degree egg but we subbed scrambled which was perfectly cooked. Red wine flight includes five samples. Typical amount. Overall, the food was fresh and delicious, wine was great, as was the service. Nice to sit outside and hear live music (guitar player) and watch families. They have a grassy area with picnic tables, many couches for groups and lots of two-top tables. The tables and areas for larger groups are seated closer to the music area, so it seems like they have the better view but we enjoyed people watching at our two-top near a tree, half in the sun. read more

One of the most beautiful wineries I've been to right in the heart of Carmel Valley. First off, you have to come on a nice day (which is pretty easy to come by). The outdoor seatings have plenty of umbrellas to keep you cool and there are also covered sections as well. The day I went was moderately breezy to keep us cool in the heat. While we were deciding what we wanted to get, a server gave us some complimentary tastings for the Blade & Talon collection. We got to try two types of wine - it was a white and a red-white wine. Both were delicious and the owner, Nat, actually came by to explain his methodological approach to producing the wines, how he got into the business, and how he came up with the brand name. This was a unique experience as I don't normally get to chat with the actual winemakers. It was inspiring to hear his journey and story. As for the Folktale wine, I tried their rose which was absolutely crisp and delicious. It was the perfect amount for an afternoon. The glasses are reasonably priced and the tasters are a great deal as you get about six hefty glasses to try. If you're looking for a special venue to book, this place is absolutely perfect with their beautiful patio, green lawns, outdoor stage, decor, and even corn hole at the edge of the property. There is also a home goods store inside that sell everything from kitchenware to accessories to pet items. The property is clean, well-kept, and spacious. The staff was also very nice and accommodating. We didn't have a reservation but they were able to seat us on a Monday. Many years ago I came here and we tried wine without a problem. The place was beautiful, the staff was friendly. Recently, past few years, the service is bad and the atmosphere is pretentious. You're treated like a peasant. They don't want regular people coming here. They want rich people here only. I am more than happy to spend my money when I'm treated well, but I've now been treated so poorly here about 4 times. I joined the wine membership even tho I live a few hours away. Every time I came here they made an excuse to not give me my free tasting that comes with the membership. I've since canceled, no apology for the treatment by the way. I came here for brunch and a tasting. But we were told that during brunch we were not allowed to taste wine. Yet there were plenty of other tables receiving wine tastings. I then told the waiter at the end of our time there that I was a member. Then he seemed embarrassed for having been so rude to me. You should be nice to people even if they're not members tho. Anyways, I never got a tasting even while part of the membership. The staff is very rude. All of them. The same day I was there eating brunch, some friendly ladies stopped by to ask for a wine tasting. They were turned away and also spoken to rudely. They said they'd never been treated that way. I pointed them in the direction of a much kinder winery. Hire some nicer people. And give members their free tasting when they ask for it! Wasted all that money on a membership I never got to use. And also, update your website if you're going to randomly close for an event during normal business hours. Waste of a long drive for people who don't know you're going to turn them away. Such a peaceful and soothing place. We came here on a Sunday, group of 6, no reservation, after completing a beautiful drive on 17 mile drive. We were all tired and hungry, found here from Yelp (thanks Yelp!). We were welcomed with a complimentary sparkling brut from folktale flights, which was then replaced by a Le Mistral Voignier when some of us actually ordered the folktale flights. The weather was a bit chilly, the staff turned on the fireplace and heaters outside. Service was incredible. I was particularly surprised by the 80's rock music selection. They played many songs I really like, so my view on the music is biased. There are a bunch of games in the backyard including Kinect and Jenga, looks fun. Food was unexpectedly amazing. Definitely try the Moroccan Spiced Lamb -not disturbingly spiced at all-. Cheese and charcuterie boards were very adequate. I liked the apple spread and dates on the cheese board, merged well. I wasn't a big fan of saffron cavatelli, but my friend liked it. I did not try octopus but it looked very tempting. Overall, this place is a hidden gem and I am glad we found it. This is a great place to spend a late afternoon. The outside seating area is gorgeous, with different kids of tables, couches, and chairs set up. The building interior is also beautiful and features a shop with pottery, specialty food, and other home items. My husband and I split a Signature wine tasting flight with both whites and reds. Then we split a bottle of sparkling rose with our friends - this was our favorite! The other food here was excellent, though on the pricy side. We ordered a flat bread with prosciutto and potatoes - it was a winning combination and the crust was perfect. We also tried the ravioli with short ribs and mushrooms - it was nuanced and perfectly balanced. Beautiful and charming grounds. We had a relaxing family time here! the wines were pretty good (I got the signature flight $40, generous pours too), but wow don't skip the flatbread pizzas!!! They were soooo good. We got the tarte flambée that had creme fraiche, bacon, allium, and gruyere... wish I didn't have to share! Friendly service, and yes they are family friendly. A lovely place to relax and taste wine. The wine garden is spacious and beautiful, with plenty of seating, both indoor and outdoor. It's pretty casual, a perfect place to visit on a warm summer day. We got the Tasting Flight, truffle fries and the charcuterie and cheese board. My favorite was the Brut (the free sample glass you're given when you first come in). Very light and refreshing. The chardonnay was way too strong (aroma was overpowering). The Pinot noirs were okay, I usually like Pinot noirs but these ones didn't stand out to me. I loved the truffle fries. They were so delicious and decadent. The aioli that came with them was also really good. I enjoyed the various meats on our charcuterie/cheese board. The cheeses were also good but the pickled items were all very strong and overpowering (Especially the olives). The candies dates were okay but a bit too sweet. The games available in the corner of the courtyard were also fun! There was a giant domino set, corn hole boards and a giant Jenga set! Beautiful venue-I loved all of the staff that waited on us. My only complaint would be if you want to spend a lot of money and have children running around you screaming the whole time during the experience than this place is for you. We had children screaming the whole time. They were there running around between tables not controlled at all by their parents. We did complain once, and the staff member went over and told those children to stop it parents not once told their children to stop acting the way they were behaving . But it continued throughout our experience. Awful experience not sure if I would ever go back maybe during the week when these children with no supervision are not on the property. It's almost scary because they were running around, and the parents had no idea where their children were and they were over near the parking lot. If parents can't control their children, please ask them to leave. A winery is not a playground. Another couple made the same comment to me on my way out the door. read more

This may be my favorite winery visit. Let me preface that by saying I know very little about wine and I'd much rather have a gin and tonic any day, but I love the settings and atmosphere of wineries and the food. We stopped here after the drive from San Fran while we waited to check into our hotel. It's situated on a busy road near houses and the area looks kind of suburban so I wasn't sure what to expect. As soon as you drive in it charms you into your happy place. Everything looks manicured and upscale but still friendly and welcoming. The service, wines and menu were just the way as well. There was zero pressure to buy bottles or join the club and the wines were reasonably priced. And the food....I am still thinking about the tomato and melon salad I had. We were there today 9/16/23 and they have a HUGE wasp problem. Every table was shooing away dozens of wasps. They need to find the nest and get an exterminator out there. - The Hidden Vineyard Took a day trip with my wife to Carmel. Enjoy some good food along the way, tour beaches, just to relax. On our way back my wife wanted some wine and we happen to find this place. First off the wine is good, not great but good. We have tried way better way in other vineyards. The food however on top of the ambiance was spot on. Beautiful outside seating, dog friendly, kid friendly, perfect weather and just overall we loved the experience. We order the cheese plate which was like $20, very very good, plus the 6 wines you can try for $20. They even give you their inhouse Champaign to try, pretty good. Server was very friendly, very helpful, and then live music started. Overall a very nice experience. BIG FYI....if you don't have reservations or you are not a member you may have to wait to be seated depending on how busy they are. read more

I can't say enough nice things about Folktale Winery. We were greeted with a glass of sparkling wine when we walked in and then told we could sit anywhere. They offer table service on the wine tasting so you can get comfortable at the many, many places to sit inside or out and have wine. We were given excellent service by Annie who was very knowledgeable about the winery and the wines there. We also ordered a cheese plate (they had a number to choose from) we chose the burrata cheese plate that came with some bread and a few tomatoes to compliment. Nice venue, however we were seated in the side room, which is not as pleasant as outside. When I asked if we could be seated outside, the host said those are for larger parties. Then after being seated, I saw a bunch of 2 tops by the tree and asked if we could be seated there. We were able to move. Their sparking rose was good. The other wines were okay. Fyi, they charge for bottled water. Parking lot B is closer to the entrance which is confusing. We thought the building would be closer to lot A so we wandered towards a private venue at first, so look for signs. Those were not obvious, so it's helpful to know that the entrance is closer to lot B. read more

We ended up going to one of their evenings with music. It was very early spring so the crowds hadn't started coming in yet though the place was lively as we walked in. There was a singer-songwriter and a couple of others playing guitar, ukulele etc. It was an excellent twilight setting. We were greeted with sparkling wine right as we walked in and sat down. The menu is perfect size without being too bare or too full. We ordered an artisan cheeseboard - 3 types of lovely smelly cheeses, candies pecans, walnuts, Sherry dipped dates, apricots, fruity jam, and of course crostini. We also had their spicy jalapeño sauced carrot tacos which was excellent! We also chose their Folktale wine flight which gave us a taste of 6 different wines with generous pours. We chose one flight between the two of us and I think that was just about right unless you're a heavy drinker. The wines we had were a Rosé, a smokey Chardonnay, viognier, couple of Pinot noirs and a Grenache. The wines were decent and if you choose the wine pairings with the food I don't think you would go wrong. Most of all the ambiance, the feel, and the combination of great weather, decent wine and good food made for an excellent romantic date even with kids around which is unusual. read more

Having been through much of Paso Robles, Sanoma and the Alexander River valley wineries, I am always looking for "understated gem" and this is exactly that Beautiful and centrally located in the heart of Carmel valley, the grounds here are simply gorgeous and the ambiance is breathe taking. I came in with my 2 little dogs and they were mobbed with affection and dog treats by the host who follow up with bubbly white wine for us upon entry. What an entrance ! Next we have samplings of the wine and fav was the Riesling which I had a full glass and followed this with the cheese platter which was a gorgeous as well. The Riesling had a high acidity with a floral aromatics and finishes with a dry after taste of apples and pears. The fireplace area is also set up to have a stage for live music and unfortunately there was none on this night. I will be back for sure when I get the chance again read more

First arrived with ample parking, it's a beautiful property. We made a reservation pretty far in advance just to secure everything since we were visiting. We went on a Sunday their was live music. We ordered the Caesar salad and the sweet heat pizza. Both really fresh and tasty. The Caesar salad came with big chunks of lettuce and anchovies. The pizza was a little bit spicy, sweet and creamy and had a very thin crust. We ordered the signature flight and it was a very nice variety of wines. We ended up ordering a bottle to take back home. Service was great the somalier checked on us a few times. And it was a beautiful day but it got kind of hot, and we asked for a shade umbrella and they brought that right away which made the experience a lot better as well. Which is disappointing. Even with covid and the current climate they just had no customer service and did not care about helping us find wine. We're here for their Bubble Brunch event the brunch menu is amazing! The food tastes amazing, but if you order endless Mimosas make sure you get your monies worth. We're 4 mimosas in & notice that it's just orange juice! And our waitress keeps asking if we want another one each time. Never had this happen before at a brunch. My boyfriend and I were on vacation in the area and had some free time, so we decided to stop by Folktale Winery. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip! We were there on a sunny afternoon, and we grabbed a couch out on their patio area. We aren't big wine people, and the waitress was very helpful in making recommendations based on what we like. We quickly discovered that the Late Harvest wine was our favorite (sweet like a moscato). We spent the entire afternoon sipping wine, chatting with the waitress, and getting a good wine buzz. We also ordered the cheese board and the Brie toast for snacks. It was overall a great experience, and we wish we lived closer so we could visit again.
