We're still in the middle of our stay at Carmel Valley Ranch, but it has already been so wonderful that I wanted to write this review before I even get home; just so I don't forget all the special details. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel truly cared for. Edward was so sweet at check-in and helped secure lovely rooms for our group. He continues to greet us kindly each time we see him in the lodge. Saša remembered us from previous visits and made my son's birthday extra special by bringing out French fries (his absolute favorite)! We also had a service issue within our group, and Jeff handled it with such genuine passion and professionalism. He went above and beyond to make things right, and then surprised my kids with their own little Stanley cups engraved with their initials. Truly above and beyond. The food and beverage team has been just as amazing. Molly's new dessert menu is fantastic; don't miss the goat cheesecake! Carly is always a gem; her warmth and kindness brighten our days, and my kids absolutely adore her. Mia is so welcoming at the host stand at Valley Kitchen, always greeting us with such friendliness. At dinner, Ismael was a wonderful server. I forgot to mention needing separate checks at the start of the meal, but he was so gracious and kind about handling it at the end. Our favorite breakfast server is José. He was is so so so kind. One member of our group has been feeling under the weather this weekend. He had the chef make her some chicken broth. And he didn't even charge a penny for us. When I offered gratuity; he declined! We adore José. We look forward to seeing him every time we return to CVR. A highlight of the trip was meeting Fernanda at the Market. We had a fun conversation early in the morning about whether eggnog and matcha might go together. Hours later, she tracked me down to tell me she had experimented, tried it, and that it was delicious--then proceeded to make me a matcha eggnog latte. And she was right. It was amazing! Her thoughtfulness absolutely made my day. We also had the pleasure of meeting Urich, the GM--including a personal hello from him, which says a lot about the hospitality here. He was warm, approachable, and clearly cares deeply about the guest experience. The property itself is gorgeous with so much to enjoy, but what keeps us coming back again and again is the incredible people who make every stay feel special. Their kindness, sincerity, and attention to detail turn a beautiful resort into a place that feels like home. We are already looking forward to our next visit. read more

My husband booked this place for the family with good intentions but missed a few details that I'd like to share in the hopes someone else may be reading reviews for this place. Location: beautiful breathtaking views tucked away in a mountain valley, it is a perfect spot to get away from the hustle and bustle from city noise pollution and high populations. Customer service: there are only 1-2 check in desks, where they spend about 10-20 minutes with each customer explaining the property amenities, location of room, events, etc. when you've been traveling all day, every minute feels like a lifetime. Restaurant: there is only one full service, sit in restaurant that gets booked very fast especially for dinner. Plan ahead and make a reservation in advance for every night you plan to stay on campus and eat there, otherwise, expect to wait until 8 pm or drive to the nearby restaurants which include a Subway, pizza joint, or a small Vietnamese restaurant. Earthbound Organic Farm is a great alternative option for a small breakfast or lunch bites. There is another Mexican restaurant nearby. Clientele in the mornings consist of rowdy children and their inconsiderate parents. I recommend asking to be seated outside if you have well mannered children and want to eat in peace. Rooms: mediocre clean. For being a Hyatt affiliated hotel, I had higher expectations, rooms are carpeted with wooden floors and heavy rugs. This resort is pet friendly so if you have someone in the family that suffers from allergies or has a very sensitive nose, this is not the best place to stay. As most Californian hotels that have carpeting, you can smell odors in the carpeting and linen. When things got hot and humid in our room, I got a nice whiff of dog. Basically any pet friendly hotel means that your linens will be washed with dog poo or other animal fluids. Rooms are only dusted at eye level but if you're someone that is concerned about dust mites, be prepared to get a showering of dust mites on bed, where the headboards reach 6' high and hold lots of lovely layers of dust. Coffee pot is sad and comparable to a motel 6 version with blah coffee, and lastly the beds are super firm with no ability to adjust (like other Hyatt holidays offer), and pillows are huge and uncomfortable. Foam alternative is slightly softer but still too high for a back sleeper or stomach sleeper. Bathroom: limited. They do provide tiny handwashing bars of soap made of lavender, and provide a tiny sample sac of lavender salt to use in tub but for those with allergies, best to request an alternative if any. Shower corners contain black mold. Refrigerators: our room had a tiny refrigerator that could hardly fit anything and doesn't cool sufficiently so for those moms packing extra healthy snacks for your kids, consider your fridge useless. All the strawberries, yogurts and hummus we purchased made it straight to the trash. Room patio: dirty and useless. There was a couple of upholstered seats and one table on our patio that could not be enjoyed as they were filled with dirt, dust and leaves. Would I stay here again? No - due to the pet issue for me. Most Californians love their pets and don't mind staying in places that wreak of dog butts that they've habituated to. Like I said, my husband had good intentions but there were too many issues that made it undesirable for me. read more

CVR is beautiful - the grounds, trails, golf course, and family pool are all great. The outdoor tub in our room was nice, but very close to the golf which didnt make it feel private at all. Complementary activities like cheese tasting and s'mores were highlights. for my child. That said, the stay felt "middle of the road." Room amenities are limited (no mini bar or snacks), the property is spread out, and dining options are tricky with limited hours. Room service was slow (2.5 hrs!) zero communication on the delivery and when arrived it was 100% incorrect. It would be nice if they offered a mini bar of the items they sell at the lobby market. If it was in-room we would of bought it all. The main restaurant was excellent! Yogurt with granola, beet salad, and lobster ravioli stood out. The cocktails were amazing. The poolside and early-morning food options could improve. We came with our kid, the family pool opened early but no food or drink service so we had to drive back up to the lobby. 1st world problems I know, but this is a 5 star resort, and basic details were missed. Later, we ordered the fried chicken sando for lunch and it was just gross, and tasted like a frozen tysons chicken patty. CVR has a lot to offer, but it falls short of a true 5-star experience. read more

We recently held our small wedding at Carmel Valley Ranch and wanted to share our feedback. To start, we want to express how truly lovely the event itself was. The bar and service staff were exceptional -- friendly, attentive, and wonderful to work with. They were an absolute highlight of the day. Unfortunately, we did experience a number of challenges in working with our event coordinator, Clayton, that we felt important to communicate. In the early stages of planning, Clayton made us feel confident in the level of support and service we would receive. However, after our contract was signed, communication became extremely inconsistent. He stopped communicating with me (the bride) directly, to the point where even my follow-up emails went unanswered. My husband had to step in and CC additional staff members just to prompt a response. Even then, Clayton continued replying only to my husband, making the planning process unnecessarily difficult. There were also several periods where Clayton disappeared for weeks without communication, later explaining he had been busy with events or away for personal matters. While we completely understand that things come up, we would have greatly appreciated being informed in advance or having another staff member step in to assist during his absence. These communication issues unfortunately carried into the wedding day. I had sent Clayton my full vendor list multiple times, yet when my hair and makeup team arrived, they had no idea which room I was in and told me they had received no communication from him at all. They even mentioned that this was unusual for a venue with CVR's reputation. Similarly, my florist delivered my bouquet and corsages to a vacant room -- we are still unsure who directed them there -- but this added unnecessary stress on the morning of the wedding. Additionally, just before the ceremony, I was instructed to wait in the dinner space with my mom. Clayton was in the room setting out place cards but did not greet us, make eye contact, or acknowledge us in any way. It was an uncomfortable and unprofessional moment, especially given that he was the staff member we had been assigned to work with throughout the planning process. We want to make clear that despite these challenges, our wedding day was still beautiful, and we are grateful for the efforts of the on-site staff who helped make it memorable. Our intention in sharing this feedback is to help ensure future couples -- especially those with smaller events -- receive the consistent communication and professionalism they deserve from the start. read more

The incredible CVR team, stunning grounds, delicious farm-to-table cuisine, amazing activities, generous suites with heavenly signature bath products, and even nightly social s'mores - everything here delights. Having visited previously during the fall, winter, and summer, we were excited to return to CVR for Easter this time. Springtime at CVR is wonderful! Highlights and special thanks from our latest visit: Is there anything that Director of Rooms JASON doesn't do? From warmly interacting with guests to re-filling the lobby water dispenser to driving the shuttle, this superhuman hospitality hero was everywhere! We were so impressed by him and his history, from starting as a graveyard shift valet and working his way up. Jason's graciousness and tireless work ethic make him an exemplary leader at the ranch. A *huge thank you* to the lovely JOSARA who kindly upgraded us to a Forest Suite and gifted cute toys to the littles in our group! While we were exploring the garden - which was magnificent in springtime - MARK invited our little ones to help plant pumpkin seeds, which was such a fun treat for them! He elevated our garden visit to magical! From chicken feeding to the Easter egg hunt to goat herding, we saw LANCE working hard all over the ranch. Thank you very much also to SAL and MILES for hosting such a fun Little Ranchers activity! The mini wheelbarrows were too cute! JOSE's friendliness and thoughtfulness made meals at Valley Kitchen such a pleasure as well as a feast for the taste buds! Big thank you as always to KIRSTEN for leading CVR's massive activities program! We enjoyed every moment of Little Ranchers, honey tasting, and our first CVR Easter egg hunt. Kirsten, ever thoughtful, made the egg hunt even more special by surprising our littles with Easter goodie baskets! JEFF gallantly shepherded large groups of guests for the Easter egg hunts - what a warm and thoughtful soul! REBECAH - thank you for offering late checkout, which helped us soak in a little more CVR and also made for a smoother drive home. Our stay at Carmel Valley Ranch was epic! It always is. My boyfriend and I were there for my birthday. Unbeknownst to me, he called them in advance to see if they could have deviled eggs (my favorite appetizer) waiting for me when we arrived. It was such a sweet and thoughtful surprise and so accommodating of the staff to do that for us. I accidentally made our dinner reservations for the wrong night. Mia, the hostess at Valley restaurant was so kind to move our reservations and to accommodate the 7:15 PM time that we were hoping for. The dinner was epic. Luis our waiter was just the sweetest-great personality and even sang when delivering my birthday dessert. We also had a really nice conversation with Jason, the director of rooms that made us feel so welcome and was the icing on the cake of a perfect stay. Thank you Carmel Valley Ranch & staff. Thanks to my brother, I had the opportunity to spend this past weekend at Carmel Valley Ranch. What a lovely property! My brother had quite a few Hyatt points, and redeemed them for a room so I could tag along on his weekend trip. Carmel Valley Ranch is a Hyatt property located in the Carmel Valley. I had never been to this part of Carmel before; I had only been to Carmel-by-the Sea (which is by the beautiful waters of the Central Coast). Upon driving in, we saw beautiful fields of lavender, vineyards, etc. This is a gated property; when you drive in, someone greets you & you let them know you have a room. We drove to the lodge to check in and was immediately warmed greeted by their valet staff. The property is rather spread out though. You really do need a car to get from say, your hotel room / suite / villa at the swimming pool. There are several pools here; there is a kid-friendly pool, an infinity pool for adults only, and a mixed area pool. I did not swim during my stay here but the kids (niece & nephew) did. Lots of families here this past weekend. Also couples with young kids. there was also a wedding on Saturday night; and on Sunday I believe another one (I saw a beautiful bride walking around!). We stayed for 2 nights. For me the top 3 highlights were: 1. Pickleball -I played pickleball for the first time! Love that they have several pickleball courts next to the tennis courts. You can play for free (I believe the 1st hour is complimentary). I played for about 30 minutes with my dad, and they also had paddles / balls for us to borrow. Fun! 2. Lavender fields -The lavenders fields were so pretty! We walked by in the morning and the smell of fresh lavenders was sooooo lovely! Then in the room they had the lavender olive oil soap for us to use ** and I took one home with me as a souvenir. -3. Alpacas -I saw alpacas over by the Huff 'n Puff trail! Such cute animals!!! I do feel like the housekeeping could've been better. My dad had to call the front office since our room was not "refreshed" by 4 pm. Also, the showerhead in the room was crooked and couldn't be adjusted. Overall though, I had a very nice and relaxing stay and am happy I had the opportunity to do that. read more

Love Carmel valley ranch. People here were so friendly and during the week we went it was raining cats and dogs. They opened up a game room for the kids. They had a movie playing, foosball, board games, cornhole and one arcade game. They had honey tasting from their bees on the ranch. Wasn't able to see the animals bc of the rain, but we experienced some lovely hail haha. The pools were still heated and some people did swim. The jacuzzi was still popular since it was heated to 100. The restaurant inside served delicious food, and the cocktails were chef's kiss. I got a massage but sadly their spa is under renovation so I wasn't able to use any amenities they would typically have with a spa treatment. Loved my masseur, she was so nice and applied the right amount of pressure! read more

Great hotel. It was very clean up until we found ants in the living room and bathroom on our last night, but the hotel was very quick to come and resolve the issue. It's a very secluded hotel and the rooms are spaced out which is great for relaxing and quiet. Super pet friendly. But it is a steep price to stay here totally worth it read more

If heaven was a place on earth, Carmel Valley Ranch would be in the top 10 locations. Nestled in the beautiful hills of Carmel Valley is a gorgeous 5 star resort filled with the natural beauty of California. We hosted our offsite here for 4 glorious days and it was work yet not work! The amazing friendly staff, beautifully well kept rooms, activities, and food were all 5 stars. They have an adults only pool area that offers poolside dining and boasts a large infinity hot tub overlooking the valley. The evenings include hanging out by the various public fire pits and roasting marshmallows. For the day time, they offer activities that cater to various tastes such as honey tasting from their local bee hives, guided tours of their mini farm which includes a vegetable garden and farm animals. We also enjoyed their catering and their menu offers many choices for various dietary restrictions. Everything was beautifully presented , food was so fresh and delicious, we couldn't have asked for a better venue. Definitely will keep this place on our lists of top places for vacation and summits. read more

Wow! What a great night. The service and food was spectacular! My wife is gluten free so Chef Joe and Chef Andrew with the recommendation from Hostess Savanah made her a GF Artichoke Lemon Risotto that was outstanding!!! What a special feeling to be tended to so well. Carly the manager was so attentive checking in on us and making us feel so welcome! CRV is an outstanding property, but don't visit... I really could not have asked for a better experience than our visit at Carmel Valley Ranch. The staff at check-in were exceptionally kind and took the time to explain all of the free activities and amenities that were included in our stay. My friend and I travelled here from Florida for my birthday and the staff ordered us a bottle of wine and a cheese board to our suite which were both incredible. The property is immaculately kept with lush golf courses, greenery, pools, gardens and even the enclosures for the animals and the bees. We did a complimentary yoga class, enjoyed s'mores around the fire pit, took a late night soak in the 24 hour hot tub and even went to visit the goats and farm animals. The rooms were so well laid out, beautiful and more than spacious enough. A fireplace in each room, a huge wrap around deck and a fantastic bathroom for 2 girls to sprawl out our makeup. I really cannot express enough how much I enjoyed our stay and how memorable of an experience it was staying here. I hope to visit again one day. read more

We stayed here one night and immediately wished we had decided to stay longer! The staff was very friendly, our room was clean and spacious and the grounds are beautiful. We didn't have enough time to explore the hiking trails, or the golf course. It is a bit of a drive into downtown Carmel and takes Lyft/ubers a while to come out but the peaceful grounds definitely make up for that. Our room service was delivered quickly and the staff at Valley Kitchen were also very friendly. read more

As a frequent visitor to Carmel by the Sea over the years with the dogs, I can't believe I've never stayed at Carmel Valley Ranch. Enter my birthday for 2024, and we stayed for a couple of very enjoyable and relaxing nights, pleasantly surprised by everything CVR had to offer. What first struck me when we arrived was the amount of acreage this property covers. With an assortment of activities to participate in and things to see, there's yoga, a farm and bee hive tour, numerous heated pools for both kids and one for adults only for those who want to feel kidless for a bit, fire pits with s'mores, a golf course, turkeys who roam freely, an incredible spa, and a cozy and exceptionally good restaurant that serves both buffet and sit down breakfast as well as amazing dinner options, what more could one ask for. By the end of the two nights, I wanted to stay for one more. The room we stayed in was very cozy with a large deck, king size bed, vaulted ceilings, a fridge, a fire place, and large bathroom with both a shower & tub and dual sinks. Pros: Excellent spa experience and massages, heated pools & infinity jacuzzi, s'mores & fire pits, large cozy rooms with fireplaces, very friendly staff and a great restaurant. Cons: A bit pricey, but with CVR, you get what you pay for. read more

I have been wanting to stay here for a while and my husband planned a two night stay here for my recent birthday. What a great surprise! We came with our 3 yo toddler. Resort - huge resort so you either need to drive around or request the shuttle. By the lodge during midday it can be challenging to find a parking spot. I requested a shuttle for pick up so I can get to my spa appointment while my husband took the car with my toddler. After an agonizing 20+ min wait the shuttle didn't arrive. I was starting to worry I would be late for my massage. Thankfully someone dropping off something next door noted that I was waiting and gave me a lift. Room - we got a regular room that came only with a king bed - no tub outside on the patio which we were definitely fine with. electric fire place was so cozy and there's no thermostat in the room so this kept us warm. The room itself was very spacious and had everything we needed from a couch, dining table, shower, bath tub, fridge, coffee machine and kettle. Spa - the spa is tucked in next to the Lodge. It is a small little building that was definitely very serene. There's an adult swim area with an Infinity pool and a regular pool by the lodge - 16+ we didn't check this out since we had our kiddo. We did go to river ranch for the family pool area- definitely need to drive or take the shuttle. It was VERY nice with a splash pad and a wadding pool on the side, hot tub, and a 3+ feet heated pool. We spent a good 90 minutes here. My husband and toddler did the garden meet and greet. She had a blast feeding the chickens and picking strawberries. Some of the other activities have an extra cost and didn't meet on the two days we were there. I expect weekends to be more popular. Food - there is a market that honestly sold very expensive and limited options for lunch/breakfast but their caffeinated drinks were made so well. We made it a point to get a drink both mornings - the matcha lavender was made better than actual cafes. We ate at the kitchen one evening and the food was amazing but pricey. Smores - every evening you can pick up a packet by the lodge and roast your marshmallows by the fire and make your own smores. One packet is more than enough for two people. Creamery - we were pretty disappointment that this wasn't open during our stay. We promised our kiddo we would get ice cream. Hikes - We did a short hike the morning before we checked out. Hiked up and was able check out their animals - goats, horses, llamas, etc. It was a nice end to our stay. Family friendly - A lot of the activities they offer are geared towards older kids like elementary or older. For toddlers, only the meet and greet and the family pool is age appropriate. They offer a lot of amenities for babies/toddlers - we only opted for the night light/sound machine which was so cute - it was a little elephant that projected stars on the ceiling. read more

Upon check in they offer a welcome beverage and they talked us through our room and the different amenities. Because we used our Amex and it's considered a Fine Hotel and Resort, we receive complimentary upgrades if available. We were upgraded to a beautiful suite for no additional cost, we received an $80 a day credit for breakfast, and $100 credit to be used during our stay (which we ended up using for post dinner drinks). The suite was amazing! We did end up driving to it from the main lobby and restaurant area but it was a very short walk - just easier with our suitcases. The suite had a large common area with a table, couches, a fireplace and a tv. The bathroom was spacious with a nice shower and large tub. The bedroom was also quite spacious with a fireplace and a beautiful view. We didn't eat dinner at the restaurant while we were there, but we did eat breakfast due to the $80 a day breakfast credit. We ordered the french toast to share both days and it was amazing. The breakfast sandwich was incredibly underwhelming...it felt dry and completely fell apart. One day I opted for the basic breakfast with poached eggs, fruit and bacon which was good. The adults only pool and hot tub is right off the lobby. It was pretty chilly and a bit rainy while we were there but one morning it was sunny and we spent time in the hot tub. It has a nice view of the hills and the golf course with plenty of space. The hotel is incredibly family friendly...there were kids everywhere. As someone with children of my own, it didn't bother me at all, but I could see how if you were trying to escape that and have some quiet during a meal that could be bothersome. The child friendly pool and gym is all the way down at the bottom of the hill. It feels like a bit of a ways to go if you had kids with you, you'd absolutely have to drive. My family and I stayed here for the second time for a short weekend trip. We all had a good time and I think we'll try to come back once or twice a year from now on. There were a few downsides to our stay, though: - hotel key would randomly stop working and we had to go back to the lodge to get a new one. But then it stopped working again.. luckily I had a digital card on my World of Hyatt app. - we didn't really watch TV but had it on in the background when we were in the room and it would randomly shut down and restart pretty frequently (maybe like every 20 minutes), then you'd have to go back to the menu and select whatever show you were watching. Overall, I feel like this place is quite overpriced in almost everything (not just the cost of the rooms, but the spa and activities), BUT I still mention that I want to go back haha because it's just such a family friendly place. It's nice to stay there for a few days and not have much of an agenda other than to explore the ranch and have everything you need there. Not only are there plenty of kids activities but there's also stuff for adults to enjoy as well (golf, spa, gym, hiking). We ate at the Valley Kitchen in the main lodge a few times this trip and although the food is pricey, as expected, it's really good so at least you're not paying for mediocre overpriced hotel food. Sweet potato shoestring fries and the burger were amazing! I took a BodyPump class this time and enjoyed it because 1) it was one of the free activities lol and 2) it was a good workout. Next time I visit I'm going to try more of their fitness classes. Also, last thing to add is that the filtered water they have is REALLY good. My son drank a crazy amount lol. Booked using points (Chase) so the whole thing was relatively inexpensive. Be prepared to drive/walk a lot as its a HUGE property (complimentary). The food is solid, but really you're there for the views. The whole place is very child-friendly (we brought our toddler), but the most family friendly place is the River Ranch, which is on the CVR property but also open to members of the country club (?). It's still really pretty and a fun place to go, but keep in mind it's a little pricey. Chase also gives some extra perks like comped food and an upgraded room. There's some cute animals and such around the property, but our bb is a little young for a lot of the activities. It feels like it would be BEST for elementary school aged kids, or regular honeymooners. Just a fun place to go and not too far from the bay! read more

I know this review won't do anything but I have to express how poor the customer service is here. A friend and I made separate room bookings next to each other. I had forgotten my room key so I went to my friend's room to wait while it was being printed after I called guest services. 15 minutes pass by and nothing happens so I call them again and apparently they forgot about it so they finally sent someone with my key maybe 20-25 minutes after the original call. In clear view of the shift leader "Chris" I receive my key and leave my friends room which I obviously had permission to be inside prior. I go back to my room to get something for my friend who I was worried about, not to the point of a medical emergency but definitely felt like they needed someone to take care of them a bit. But I forgot to take their room key after leaving their room so once I called my friend and realized they weren't able to respond to their phone I became very very worried. I first called guest services at 12:08am, I tell them everything that has happened and they seem completely clueless about what to do like this has never happened before. They say they need to make an emergency meeting with their manager while my friend is potentially dying in their room. They put me on hold for 8 minutes so I hang up and call back and I'm on hold for 4-5 minutes before someone picks up and tells me that they still need to talk to the manager for what to do and said they will call me back and completely hang up on me this time. How were they going to call me back they didn't even ask for my number! 10 more minutes go by it's probably like 12:35 or so, Carmel Valley Ranch security is at the door of the hotel and knocking on the building door for me to let me in. Because the security for the entire hotel doesn't carry any keys to get into any hotel building, isn't that super smart? And I'm not blaming the security, the hotel management decided that security didn't get to have any access cards. So I let him in and honestly he's really nice and understanding, he also doesn't understand why this process is taking so long but he explained that management doesn't give keys to security and someone from the front desk needed to come down with a master key. Maybe 15 minutes of waiting later the shift leader "Chris" finally appears with the key and he has the manager of the property on speaker on his phone. Chris has the audacity to tell me to go to my room as if I had no right to be in the hallway even. I explained to Chris that he literally saw me emerge from my friend's room so it made no sense that I couldn't go back in and then Chris literally says "you have to talk to my manager". Actually I don't have to talk to anyone, but I obliged and the manager said, "if you don't go back into your room we're going to call the police" which was a completely empty threat because they actually have no right to keep me out of the hallway for a welfare check. But also how dare the management of the building threaten to call the police on a guest who's just concerned about their friend? And the entire time I'm trying to convince them I should be able to go back into the room Chris is making these annoyed faces at the security guard. TLDR if your friend has a medical emergency here and your name isn't on that friends room reservation, they will probably just die because it takes about an hour for the hotel to conduct a welfare check on a room. And they might threaten to call the cops on you for no reason as well. read more

We had an unfortunately unpleasant experience at Carmel Valley Ranch. Our trip was unceremoniously cut short after we discovered a mouse living under our bed and its droppings covering my wife's shoes and water bottle. We could see the hole the mouse was going to and from our room in the wall behind the bed, and judging by the droppings he'd probably been coming and going for quite some time. The hotel staff did begrudgingly offer to move us to a different room adjacent to the room we were in, but since the building already clearly had a mouse problem it seemed silly to just move to another room that shared a wall with the room we were just in. Otherwise the stay was quite underwhelming - we did an activity with the goats one morning where the goat reared up and kicked me in the stomach leaving a pretty nasty bruise. At the same time one of the goats rammed an elderly woman, knocking her to the ground - they had to call the staff to come pick her up in a 4x4 and take her back to the lodge to get patched up. Luckily it wasn't worse, those animals were probably not ready to be allowed to free range around people. Finally service for breakfast and lunch at the restaurant took forever and even though they forgot to bring some items we ordered they still charged us for them - and it wasn't until we went and found the hostess that we could get it sorted out because the restaurant was so short staffed they only had 1-2 servers working at a time. The hot tub also does not get hot - it's the same lukewarm temperature at the pool. All in all I would have expected vastly more from a Hyatt property of this caliber and will not be returning. Save your money or points - go elsewhere. read more

We had never heard of Carmel Valley Ranch until some of our friends had a recent stay here. We decided to come for the weekend and had a nice time. Upon arrival we were greeted with a complimentary glass of wine and friendly staff. We deceived to have lunch at the restaurant and it was very quiet, relaxing and the food was delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. Everyday the staff updates a board with daily activities and we really enjoyed it. There was cheese tasting, hikes, visits to the corral, 4x4 tours around the property and many other activities. The property is spread out over several acres and there is a shuttle to take you anywhere you need to go. We had a great time hiking the trails, visiting the lama's, goats horses and lassoing the "bull". We also took time for a massage, it was good, not the best we've had. We also really enjoyed the heated adult pool and the jacuzzi. The temperature was perfectly hot and enjoyable with views over the golf course and the sun rising one morning, absolutely perfect! It's not a typical hotel setting here, as you have cottage type rooms with a living room, small refrigerator and a dining table. We enjoyed room service for dinner one night and it was great. Our food arrived within 25 minutes, it was hot and very tasty. Definitely try the blackened halibut over wild rice and the lobster ravioli, wow! As two extensive travelers, we are used to large, busy resorts and this was a nice change of pace for us. Not loud,crowded or unpleasant is any way. Carmel Valley Ranch is definitely family friendly, dog friendly and also couples friendly. We highly recommend a stay here. Enjoy! read more

The check in time is 4pm, and I requested early check in. They were able to accommodate by letting us check in at 3pm. I visited the ranch for my 3yo, so we looked at the potential events prior to booking. We were able to do s'mores and herb picking. Both events were a bit disorganized. We had to ask around to figure out the s'mores location, get the fire started and acquire the s'mores pack. The herb picking event at the garden was super confusing. Two different staff instructed us to get to it with different methods. One told us to park at the golf club and walk up, while the other told us to park at the garden. There was no noticeable sign and we saw that the gate was locked. We didn't see anyone at the entrance, so we skipped the garden event. The room was a bit dated, but it wasn't a deal breaker. It was just a bit disappointing to not be able to do these events my child looked forward to. Lastly, I was told someone would send her a glass of milk and chocolate chip cookie. Amazing stay with family , the property is beautiful , the staff was excellent , food was delish! Breakfast was Ala carte and each dish was well portioned and very tasty! From pancakes , French toast , eggs, all was top notch .The steak house was perfect , from my Filet mignon and mussels, to the scallops and burger my family ordered , yum! The host Amanda was stand out sweetness and very helpful on an order I took back to my room. All the pools and hot tub were great and clean, along with the room with a nice patio and comfy beds. The hayride up to the ranch is lots of fun for the kids , we saw great views on the way up , there were donkeys, cows , alpacas, goats. We recently celebrated our 15-year anniversary at Carmel Valley Ranch, and the experience was nothing short of magical. We visited during the off-peak season, so the resort wasn't overly busy, which made it feel even more special. He made us feel so welcome, showing incredible kindness and patience with our son. We also did the garden experience and can't wait to try Little Ranchers. They offer a variety of complimentary and bookable activities for families, ensuring there's something for everyone to enjoy. The food was amazing, especially at The Kitchen restaurant, where every meal felt thoughtfully prepared and delicious. Another highlight was the two pools, splash pads, and jacuzzi, perfect for unwinding with the kids after a day full of activities. For those who enjoy sports, the resort also offers tennis and pickleball courts, as well as a beautiful golf course, adding to the endless ways to have fun and stay active. The ranch is spread out over a large area, but getting around is a breeze with the golf cart and shuttle options available. We loved seeing so many animals on-site, including plenty of deer roaming freely--it added to the natural beauty and charm of the resort. We also adored the resort's beautifully designed lobby area, complete with a cozy living space, a warm fireplace, a well-stocked marketplace, and the thoughtful touch of welcome wine. Every detail added to the charm and comfort of our stay. There's so much to do here, from relaxing to exploring to staying active. We stayed at Carmel Valley Ranch for two nights in a Bluff Suite (Suite 316) on a Sunday and Monday. While the property itself is undeniably beautiful, the overall experience fell far short in terms of hospitality, service, and room comfort. Room: We booked a suite with a soaking tub, hoping for a relaxing stay. Unfortunately, we couldn't enjoy it the first night due to a loud wedding at the lodge, complete with Taiko drummers and a DJ whose announcements and music were clearly audible from our patio. While events like this are understandable, we didn't expect such noise on a Sunday evening. The biggest issue, however, was the room's location. It shares a wall with the hallway's entry door used by guests accessing their rooms. Every morning, starting before 7:30 AM, the door would slam loudly--so loud it startled us awake from deep sleep. It was jarring and, frankly, unacceptable. We informed the staff after the first night, and while they said they would notify the manager, no one followed up with us. To make matters worse, the slamming door seemed to wake our upstairs neighbors as well, and we were unable to fall back asleep due to the sound of kids running overhead. Despite our concerns, the issues persisted the second night, and the lack of any communication from management made us feel disregarded. Pool & Food Service: The adults-only pool area is lovely, but service was extremely slow and riddled with errors. We ordered a Cobb salad (which the menu states comes with chicken), but it arrived without any. After notifying staff, a side of chicken was brought 15 minutes later--too late for a now lukewarm salad. While the mahi mahi tacos were quite good, our drinks were forgotten entirely and had to be reordered after 30 minutes. To top it off, we were charged for the chicken that was originally missing. Additional Issues: We requested housekeeping at 10:15 AM, but when we returned at 3:15 PM, the room had not been serviced. Room service brought a pot of coffee but no mugs. Since housekeeping never came, I had to wash a used mug myself. Final Thoughts: At checkout, the front desk did comp our resort fee and provided a $100 food credit, which we appreciated. However, it didn't make up for the disappointing experience. The lack of care from management, noise disruptions, and subpar service throughout left us feeling let down--especially considering the high price point of this resort. There are many other great lodging options in the area that likely provide a more relaxing and guest-centered experience. Sadly, we would not return to or recommend Carmel Valley Ranch. read more

Everyone we encountered was friendly, professional, and genuinely attentive, which set a positive tone for our entire visit. Our room, as well as the property as a whole, was peaceful, relaxing, and very quiet.We also enjoyed seeing the animals on the grounds, which added a unique and charming touch to the experience. Because the property is quite large, the shuttle service was extremely helpful. It was prompt, convenient, and made it very easy to get around without any hassle. If there was one area that could be improved, it would be the food at the on site restaurants. While the dining options were convenient, the quality of the meals was fairly average and did not match the high standard set by the rest of the resort. Overall, our stay was excellent and we left feeling rested and well taken care of. Absolutely LOVED our stay at CVR. We had the pleasure of staying for 4 nights and it gave us the opportunity to truly enjoy what the ranch had to offer. We were checked in by Jocelyn who did an amazing job at explaining everything to us about our stay and even gave us each a welcome glass of Prosecco. Our room was gorgeous, we had the suite with the tub on the deck. It is such a vibe. Highly recommend that suite. The room could have been cleaner as we did notice a lot of build up in the shower but overall it was fairly clean. I loved that there is SO much to do. You literally never have to leave the ranch. They have hikes, fitness classes, golf, so many animals to go look at in their stables, an amazing spa, pool/hot tub with a view and much more. They have shuttles to take you to and from wherever you want to go on the ranch. Oh and complimentary apples in the morning and s'mores every night to roast by the fire pits. I liked that there is an adults only pool and hot tub. The ranch is verrrry family and pet friendly but it was nice to have some peace and quiet in that area. 1000/10 for the SPA. My fiancé and I got a couples massage with a scalp massage and it was the best massage we've ever had. They gave us a complimentary cupcake and glass of champagne afterwards since it was my birthday. I would especially recommend this hotel for families and people that want to bring their fur babies with them. Such a romantic relaxing getaway for our anniversary just what we needed. Everyone was so kind.

The staff here are so kind, from the tennis instructors to the people at the front desk, they made it an enjoyable experience for us. The food at all their food spots were delicious and always had kid friendly menus at each spot. The hotel room was comfy, clean, and was easy to change the temperature. The golf course was a nice course with great views, but the grass could be better. (4 stars for the golf course) Our kids got coaching from a tennis instructor that was fun and energetic and a golf coach named Todd. All the sports lessons were fun and my kids learned a lot. read more

My family stayed here for 4th of July weekend last year and it was a great experience. What I didn't realize is that it was an early birthday present for me. Despite the hot weather, we managed to keep ourselves warm. When my parents arrived, we ate by the pool and it was a nice summer meal. I also went swimming in the hotel pool and the hot tub and it was refreshing. I got to get more swimming at River Ranch and both became core memories. Always open and serving moderately priced food with a relaxing golf course view, this is one of our go to havens for a casual lunch. There is an open seating section in the middle for non-members or you can sit anywhere on the patio. The menu is an ever evolving grill menu full of favorites like burgers, Caesar salad, and wraps. There are also more vegan selections than before. I chose a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and a salmon farro salad. My husband got a tuna melt and a Pepsi and we settled in to enjoy the view. read more

The grounds are beautiful and the views are breathtaking and the staff is very friendly! The best part of the entire hotel experience however was interacting with Salvador, the corral Ranch hand. You can hike up to the corral from the hotel or take a shuttle up and when you get to the top of the hill, there are goats, sheep, Highland cows, miniature donkeys, and alpacas. We had just missed the feeding of the animals, but Salvador walked us through each of their pens and let us pet and interact with them and told us a little bit about each one of them and how he cares for them. The hotel stay was great minus some hiccups with the restaurant and our room, but I would come back just to see the animals and learn more from Salvador. He's incredible! read more
