The grasshopper had a generous amount of Oreo! -1 point for the ingredients... I'm pretty sure this has a bunch of gums in it and stabilizers based on looking at the ingredients in the freezers. I actually had no idea the ice cream was dairy free until I had a bite.. lol! There's a good selection of flavors for it being a dairy-free spot. Portions are massive (thank you ice cream Gods) and service is great. I tried cookies and cream and PB and while I loved them both I did feel the coconut flavor from the milk was a bit overpowering. I've admittedly only had FoMu once, and at Boston Calling, so can't comment on the ambience or full menu. The service was great though, and the prices seemed reasonable at least comparatively to other vendors at the festival. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the ice cream whatsoever. The coconut taste here was too overpowering to really be able to focus on anything else. I think the mint may have been a particularly bad combination with it but am not sure. Would I come back? I love fomu so much! Typically I prefer soft serve to hard ice cream but theirs is an exception. It's vegan so the base has an underlying coconuty flavor which I love (I think bc they use coconut milk). Definitely an elevated treat. Very creamy despite there being no dairy. I recently tried FoMu at an event and I was overall impressed. I can't comment on the ambiance, as I didn't get to visit the actual location. From the pictures I've seen, it looks like a pretty modern spot. If the shop is anything like the ice cream pop up I visited, you should have a great experience! Even with a long line, my ice cream was ready to go fairly quickly. The staff was very knowledgeable about the flavors and ingredients, too! As someone who is often looking for a non-dairy option, FoMu is pretty legit. I tried the Cookies 'n Ceeam ice cream, which had a coconut base and was chock full of cookies. I've heard mixed reviews on coconut based ice creams before, but I really enjoyed the flavor. The cookies mixed in were a great bonus. Just a warning, the ice cream tasted very sweet. I hope to visit the actual ice cream shop sometime soon! read more

This place deserves 10 stars- I shared the brownie sundae with peanut butter ice cream and vegan whipped cream with a friend and we couldn't get over how amazing it was- it was also super big so it's perfect for sharing. We were also surprised at how good the vegan whipped cream was- very close in texture to the real thing. Our only complaint was that they have tiny little cone cups for water, but if you have your own water bottle it's fine. There's lots of seating inside and it's very clean. I am such a FOMU fan! I am dairy free and gluten free and this place has the BEST vegan and GF ice cream. I have taken so many other people here that don't have dietary restrictions and they still love the treats. The staff at all the locations I've visited have been kind, patient and helpful. I'm always sad when they've run out of vegan whipped cream at the end of the night, but I understand it's so good people eat it up! My favorite flavor is birthday cake. And also that a GF/DF ice cream shop existed at all lol We tried two mini scoops, one blueberry shortbread and one pumpkin pie. I wanted to try their birthday cake but they only had pints and I didn't want to eat that much ice cream (I mean, I DID want to but you know, it's not exactly the healthiest choice). Stopped by on a whim just walking around South end in Boston. I think there's a few other locations around. I'm glad they have mini cup sizes because it's actually more filling than you think. The ice cream is very creamy and rich even though it's made with coconut milk and dairy free. There was a lot of choices for flavors and I ended up with the chocolate cookie dough one and there were chunks in every bite! My friend got the strawberry one and she said it is her go-to. The ice cream is very delicious but also very very sweet. I had to chug water afterwards. The place was very clean and nicely decorated. There were a bunch of seating areas inside and you can even sit and people watch on the couches by the windows. The prices aren't cheap but not very steep either. Some of them just miss the mark, and if you don't like coconut I'm not sure this is the place for you The peanut butter cookie frappe is so thick (almost too thick) but the flavors are incredible. We got an extra shot of espresso and it was like the most wonderful mocha pb frappe I've ever experienced. I think a wider straw would be way better! Their seasonal flavors always hit the spot, so they're a must try while you can get them! I'm particularly a fan of their lavender, but you'll have to try them all to find your fave. While the ice cream is pretty good, I don't think it's good enough to be as expensive as it is, especially with a lot of other creameries and ice cream manufacturers having vegan options, as well. During my last visit to FoMu, I tried the cookies and cream ice cream and was somewhat disappointed. The taste of coconut in the ice cream overpowered the actual flavor. On the bright side, the texture is fantastic and the ice cream is rich and creamy. The grasshopper pie flavor is incredible. If FoMu were more affordable, I wouldn't hesitate to give 4 or 5 stars. I was really interested to try this vegan ice cream shop. I myself am not vegan but my wife is dairy intolerant and finding ice cream she can tolerate that actually tastes good is hard. We came late one night after a show at the Wilbur and found the roomy venue down on Columbus Ave had a little buzz to it. The staff was patient as we tried flavors. My only complaint is she misunderstood my order and served me the very largest size when I asked for the smallest -- so it was not only very expensive but a mountain of ice cream. I know I know I should have said something but it took her forever to scoop it, by then a small line formed, and I didn't want it to go in the trash.
