a man, happy as hell, enjoying a chocolate chip cookie

the way it melted in my mouth. that's it, that's the review. -------------------------------------------

Cool bakery with amazing desserts. Service was quick and cookies were delicious. The line was moving the entire time in the store so there wasn't any type of long wait.

First time at levain and I'm sold that they are the best cookies ever! So perfectly sweet and crispy on the outside while soft gooey on the inside. Seriously, so good I ended up buying 3 more just to take back home to enjoy later. My fav was the classic chocochip walnut!

Cute shop on Newbury St. and often busy. Limited spaces to stand or sit to enjoy cookies inside. Few spots outside. Service was good. Cookies are always good but a bit too sweet so definitely meant for sharing. I think if the sugar was decreased just a bit, these would be the best cookies in the world.

First visit in a while, ready for a new assessment. Early morning visit, a little after 8am, and all 3 cookies were big, warm, and visually enticing. Most importantly, none of them had the greasiness of the first few visits. -- Two Chip Chocolate Chip Cookie: Believe it or not, there is such a thing as too much chocolate. I wanted to taste the dough too, but the gooey chocolatey meltiness dominated. Once cooled, the dough flavor was more discernable and nicely buttery. Good cookie, but gimme 20% fewer chips and I'll give you 40% more love. -- Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookie: I was bracing myself for chocolate overload, but this was actually more balanced than the chocolate chip. This one had more of a brownie flavor to the base, with little extra bursts of chocolate from the chips. Excellent. -- Oatmeal Raisin Cookie: The unsung hero. Even though I didn't get much oatmeal flavor, still a delicious base, and the raisins were soft and moderately sweet. A good one to have with coffee and probably my favorite of the bunch. Friendly staff. No toilet. Stool seating for four, with a few tables outside. If you're into cookies, this is a must-visit, and don't worry about the price. The cookies are large enough and rich enough that they're best shared. You probably couldn't (and shouldn't) eat two whole ones in one sitting.

This place is amazing! We ordered through Uber Eats and the cookies still arrived warm. The chocolate chip cookie was honestly one of the best I've ever had -perfectly soft, gooey, and full of chocolate. The lemon cookie was also really good with a fresh bright flavor. Highly recommend!

I came here one night because I really wanted to try their new carrot cake cookie here. As there aren't many seats in the shop, it is mostly a grab-and-go place. Service is great as always. And, if you aren't familiar with Levain, they are known for their wonderful walnut and chocolate chip cookies--which we also got. Overall, I thought their carrot cake cookie itself was okay--it fell a bit short of what I expected when I compared it to a carrot cake. But! The cookie itself was good and you can always rely on Levain for a good cookie.

I dream about these cookies. There is nothing like it. The chocolate chip and walnut are and will always be my favorite.

Seriously? Feels, looks, and tastes like a hockey puck.

I decided to pop into this Levain location on Newbury Street since over 3 years ago and they've improved and for the better. Cookies are big to justify the pricey prices but a nice treat once in a while. I might be asking for these cookies for my 30th birthday coming up. Thanks again!

    Cookies to go!

Those chocolate chip cookies are the BOMB-DIGGITY! Small location on Newbury Street but so worth the time to pick up some last minute cookies for dessert. Smells heavenly. Respectfully Reviewed.

After watching a candlelight show in the area on a Friday night, my family and I decided to feed our sweet tooth. I was surprised they closed late (10 pm) since it is a bakery. The line was out the door, but we were out the door in about 5 minutes so it goes by quick. They have the cookies on display which helps put a picture to a flavor. We wanted to share a cookie since we were still full from dinner and the only flavor we could decide on was dark chocolate peanut butter chip (for the record, I wanted the carrot cake one). The color of the cookie was a rich dark brown with little chunks of caramel colored peanut butter chips. Even though they aren't warm, the outside is crispy and the inside is soft which makes them fantastic. The texture is almost like that of a chewy brownie + if ice cream were room temperature mixed - its hard to describe. All that to say it was delicious and I would definitely try other flavors. Each cookie is about $5-7 which is not too bad for a filling dessert item. They sell merchandise and on one of the walls they have a mural of the neighboring streets. Some people were eating inside but they also have chairs and tables outside.

    Levain a la mode!

Disclaimer! I love levain bakery!! Their cookies are SO good! It was a dream come true when they announced they were opening a spot in Boston because I could finally try a fresh one! I've had the frozen ones from Whole Foods and an ex had even sent me levain cookies in the mail once to try to win me back. Not necessary now that we have what, TWO locations in Boston?? Anyways, I went to this location as I do (I find the cookies to be a little fresher than the one in Seaport, although I've only been to that one once). I was interested in their summer collab with a local ice cream company, and in Boston's case this was JP Licks, which is well known in the area. I got the original cookie (delicious) with vanilla ice cream. You didn't have a choice on the flavor, which was honestly a bummer because I would've gotten chocolate. Oh well. It was still very delicious though. They got it to me fast, the line wasn't long when I got there, although it started to fill in as I was leaving. They didn't have their outdoor tables set up yet, so we couldn't really enjoy it outside, so we snuck onto their neighbors'- Ben and Jerry's- and ate there. I don't respect Ben and Jerry's so i was morally okay with it.

Place was super busy but line moved fast. Cookies come out hot and fresh, many different options.

There was a short wait since they bake the cheesecakes fresh in batches, but it moved pretty quickly. The Original Japanese Cheesecake was warm, soft, and definitely lived up to its signature "jiggle." It's very different from a traditional cheesecake--much lighter, fluffier, and less sweet, almost like a cross between a soufflé and a sponge cake. If you're expecting a rich New York-style cheesecake, this isn't that. Personally, I enjoyed how light it was, and it didn't leave me feeling overly full. The staff was friendly, and the shop was clean and well organized. My only suggestion would be to have a few more seating options since it's mostly grab-and-go. Overall, it's worth checking out if you're in downtown Boston or curious about Japanese-style cheesecake. I'd come back again and would like to try some of their other pastries next time.

I ordered an Ube cheesecake and repeated my order as it seemed there might have been some miscommunication. I was in a bit of a rush due to limited parking and unfortunately didn't check my bag before leaving. When I got home, I realized I had been given a different cheesecake than what I ordered. I decided to keep it rather than return, as going back to Chinatown wasn't convenient at the time. The cheesecake itself was also disappointing in texture and freshness--it felt quite soggy and not as fresh as expected. Overall, the experience did not meet my expectations, and I don't think I would return.

Portuguese Egg Tart葡撻: The shop keeps the egg tarts in a warming box, which is very thoughtful. I've always preferred the cookie crust of old-fashioned Hongkongese egg tarts; they don't crumble or feel sticky in your throat. The custard filling looked a bit overbaked on the surface, but it was still smooth and creamy inside. The milk and egg flavors were qualified, and it was not too sweet. While not particularly amazing, it definitely deserved 4 stars, especially for a Cantonese person like me who hasn't had egg tarts in a long time. Hongkongese Egg Tart蛋撻: The crust is the same as the Portuguese egg tart, but the custard filling seems a bit more diluted, with a lighter milk flavor and a stronger egg flavor. People who aren't used to it might find it a bit eggy. I still prefer the former. Custard Bread奶黃包: Recommended by the owner, and it was definitely the best thing there! I ate it the next morning, but the bread was still soft, and the crust wasn't dry. The custard filling was generous, sweet, creamy, moist, and had a slightly grainy texture. Sausage Bread腸仔包: The seasoning was quite interesting, with a hint of wasabi (?). However, the sausage itself was just average, with a slightly starchy texture. Breads generally cost $2-4 each, and here four items were only $8+, enough to last me all day Important Reminder: Cash only for orders of $10 or less.

I am always surprised at how full I am when I leave! I'm stuffed every time. There is complementary miso soup with all of the bowls I've tried, outlined below. I really loved all of the bowls I've tried but my favorites are probably the Sake Aisuru Don and Kuromon Don. I just prefer more salmon to more tuna though, and they're all very good! Food: - Sake Aisuru Don: their classic all-salmon bowl! I loved the larger cuts of salmon, and I was pleasantly surprised that even the more pulverized salmon was flavorful! - Kuromon Don: loved the yellowtail in this! Each fish comes with two pieces (except the mackerel for which there are four), and I liked the sampler style for the salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and izumidai. - Maguro Toro Don: so much tuna! And all such high quality. The otoro was so fatty that it practically melted in my mouth without chewing. - Sake Maguro Hamachi Don: a mix of salmon, blue fin tuna, and yellowtail.
