This place, if I understood them correctly, is under new management and still working on their menu so getting started was a bit slow but worth it when we got our food. Staff was super nice, helpful, had a sense of humor, and from Honduras. Food was Peter flavorful. My only complaint would be that me carne asada was a little over done but when with that it had great flavor

If you have never had Honduran food, you are in luck. La Fonda is serving perfect, delicious, flavorful food. You could point blindly at the menu and pick a winner each time. They have breakfast that you can order all day. My favorite are baleadas, traditional Honduran Street food. They have a homemade tortilla folded in half and filled with your choice of eggs/avocado or meat. You can also get a plain one with beans and cheese. The fried chicken is so unique, plentiful, and comes with awesome sides (fried plantains, Cole slaw, and pickled veggies). Every meal can be split. The pork chop entrée comes with three chops! The set up includes black bean dip instead of queso, and each element is made in house, including fresh chips. You an order a dip with queso and chorizo that comes in a crazy tower. Don't forget to try the Aguas Fresca. They are yummy fruit drinks. The melon was my favorite. The weekends get pretty busy, but they always have room on a weekday. Come and try it out before everyone finds out about the amazing food.

Some 28 years ago, Uncle Sam sent me to Honduras for a few weeks. My favorite memory is the smell of the fires they used for cooking and heating. I don't know that they have piñon trees there, but the smell was similar. Most of my time was spent in the jungles near Guatemala, but one of the Honduran lieutenants took me and my supply sergeant to dinner and a movie in San Pedro Sula. The restaurant was excellent. Their appetizers - boquitas or "little mouths" - were out of this world. Everything we had was excellent, and the tab for food, lots of beer and a nice tip came out to about $10. Not $10 each. $10 for all three of us. So I was happy to learn we now have a Honduran restaurant in OKC. It's been open for a while, but I rarely find myself near that stretch of May during mealtimes. I wasn't planning on going there today, but passed by just before noon and nearly caused a major wreck turning in. Long story short: The food is really good, but don't kill yourself or anyone else pulling into the parking lot. One thing to note when you open the menu: the prices. Because they don't have a separate lunch menu, it's higher than I might have expected. Other Latin American restaurants like Cafe Kacao and Cafe Antigua are pretty inexpensive, even after CK has bumped prices up. That said, FK-T's prices would be reasonable for dinner. FK-T (does the acronym bother you too?) doesn't have an extensive menu, but everything sounds so good. I took the advice of fellow Yelper Matt M and ordered the Pollo Con Tejadas - fried chicken with fried green bananas. Thankfully everyone had warned of the funky horchata, so I went with the Jamaican (sorrel) aqua fresca. It was good, but the aqua fresca version isn't nearly as rich as the sorrel from Carican Flavors. As I waited for my meal, they brought these thick homemade chips with a black bean dip. This was a hefty dip, hence the need for a substantial chip. It was good, and while it didn't have a lot of flavor, I found myself polishing it off quickly. The presentation was great. The chicken quarter is drizzled in a tasty crema, and the crust is perfection for a Latin-style fried chicken. The green bananas are so good, and serve as your starch in place of potatoes. It also came with a nicely dressed salad of shredded cabbage topped with pico de gallo, and slightly pickled red onions. The main reasons I could go five stars were first, there wasn't a lot of meat on the chicken. Now I could understand if the chickens were imported from Honduras, as every one I saw there was scrawny as could be. Second, some of the crema had dripped on the bananas beneath the chicken, and it was great! The ones without it were good, just not as good. Lastly, they only bring you a fork. I'm typically an eat-fried-chicken-with-your-fingers kinda guy, but I happened to be wearing a suit. I could have asked for a knife, but by the time I decided to most of the meat was gone. You need to try this place. I will definitely be back. I couldn't help but contrast FK-T with the Latin American chicken chain that just opened. The ladies here could teach them a thing or two about breading.

A hidden gem, for real. It was pretty hot the day we went because they are saving on electricity and I almost left but I am SO glad I did not. The food was so good. We had the Yuca and Chicharron, Enchiladas, and Pastelitos. The slaw served with them had a really tasty salsa and complimented all the dishes well. The Chicharrones, pork closely resembling Carnitas, was the best bite with the fried Yuca, Slaw, and Cotija Cheese all together. Their take on enchiladas was new and like Tacos Cavillos but better. The Pastelitos were made with Carne Molida, ground beef, and had a very crispy yellow masa corn shell. Overall, Fantastic and worth the visit. Please patron so they can turn the AC back on. =)

Fonda K-Tracha. It's been in our bookmarks for a long time but never bothered to try it until today. Probably because we were 2 minutes away from this joint and our kiddos were starving. It was a lazy morning for them so with a late breakfast, they skipped lunch- never a great idea! We asked the waiter what they are known for. She pointed us to a couple of things. We basically ordered what she recommended. Baleadas (Flour tortillas w/beans, cheese and cream) for the kids, along with a shrimp basket. My wife had the Carne Asada and I had the 1/4 Fried Chicken. The dinner came with complimentary beans + cheese dip that our family enjoyed, especially with a dash of hot sauce. Unfortunately, the baleadas were essentially the same thing so my older two didn't care for it again after the appetizer. Apparently they can only down so much beans in one sitting. They did enjoy the shrimp though. We read about the yucca fries and we've loved them at other Latin American joints so my wife subbed her side of beans for the yucca. She enjoyed her rib eye dish and the yucca fries. She asked for the sauce that typically comes with it. Killer sauce! Her dish was supposed to come with plantains too, along with a salad and pickled veggies. There was a misunderstanding and they subbed the beans and plantains with the yucca instead of just the beans (frijoles). Course, we went ahead and asked for the plantains too. Overall, good dish. Great flavors and very filling. My 1/4 fried chicken seemed more than 1/4... and it came with the best pieces..DARK MEAT! Two drums and a thigh with a coleslaw salad of sorts and green bananas. Very filling to where I couldn't finish. Enjoyed the sauce on the chicken... paired well. It's definitely the kind of chicken that tastes best fresh. The only reason for the 4 stars is because the place wasn't the cleanest. Our family enjoys hole in the wall joints but we're not keen on having our footwear sticking to the floor. I guess it's a great way to get people to stay! We also thought the service could be better. It wasn't bad at all but we constantly had to ask for things. It may have been because it's a family joint or something because my wife believes our waiter could be the daughter. Not a huge deal at all. We found out from the staff that the food is mostly Honduran. Glad we tried it out! Now to the next one..

Pig skin, yucca, and coleslaw salad. Yum!

I have no idea what Fonda K-Tracha means but it's a neat place. They have plenty of seating inside the restaurant; plus I saw some outdoor seating to the side of the restaurant. The food is pretty amazing and the horchata is out of this world delicious. It was my introduction to horchata and one helping of the drink was not enough. I took a second horchata to go for the ride home. The food is cooked to order with fresh ingredients. The portions are huge so don't be shy about sharing your entrée with another person. All orders come with homemade salsa, bean dip, and chips. Other than the refreshing horchata, I recommend the plantains and fried yucca. I got so full eating the chips, plantains, and fried yucca that I didn't get to try the main entrees that we ordered, which appeared to be just as delicious from what I heard. Service was excellent and there is plenty of parking. Don't be fooled by the tinted windows. Get yourself in the door and enjoy this family-owned business!

I absolutly loved this placed. I'll explain to you in a minute why I had to drop it 1 star but for the most part this place was awesome. I came here with a friend for dinner. I ordered the Anafre la Fonda for $6.00. It had Frijoles Con queso [Beans with Cheese], Chorizo Con Queso [Chorizo with Cheese], Queso con Habanero [Cheese with Habanero] in it. I thought it would be cheesier but it was very refried beans like. At first I wasn't a fan but a few bites into it I sprinkled salt on each bite and it made it awesome. It was just lacking salt. I loved how spicy it was. Being Indian myself I grew up eating spicy food. Food that is spicy just wins extra points with me. I also ordered the fried plantains..they were so good! It came with a yogurt type sauce that complimented it quite well. My main dish was a churusca steak. Absolutely DELICIOUS! I loved it! My friend had a a shrimp brochette. It was DELICIOUS! This place is just out of this world. I want to go back again. Now the part where they loose a star. We ordered a Horcheta and it was the worst Horcheta drink I have ever had. It tasted like undesolved powder mixed in water. It was undrinkable. I had to ask her if it was ok if we could give it back because I only took 1 sip. She took it back but still charged us. I told them I took 1 sip and it was undrinkable so I gave it back. Finally they took it off the price. I get really embarrased asking for anything to get taken back and I didn't want to ask but I just couldn't pay for what they gave me. It was literally horrible. Other than than this restaurant was soooooo good!! I will definitely be coming back again!!.

    Great dish

Wow way out of the box. But Jack ate the cole slaw . Jack dislikes cole slaw. I had a stewed fish that was amazing. This is a gem. Get the shrimp

I really like El Quetzal, awesome Latin American restaurant. More people should check this place…read moreout but it's not perfect though. They have the robot that brings out food for you like at certain hot pot restaurants. The robot was not precise and it would stop at random table instead of the exact table where it should be. Could be because the restaurant is small for this robot or the set up was not good. Service was excellent. Server came to check on me four times. Plantains were great. The el mar which is a seafood combination dish and included lobster tail, shrimps, and a piece of salmon. The dish was really cheap, only $23.99. The shrimps and salmon were good. The lobster tail was not the most fresh. The meat at body end was soft/soggy. The mixed vegetables were frozen vegetables. Please never ever use frozen mixed vegetables. I would rather pay a little more for fresh vegetables. I didn't quite understand the use of salsa as there were no chips for it. There were tortillas but salsa and tortillas don't go together, am I right? Who knows? I didn't touch neither. This restaurant also has burgers, steaks, and pasta which I haven't tried. I feel like wether you give this a 4 or 5 stars all come down to what you order. An incorrect order will automatically knock it down to 4 stars. It is such a cool restaurant though. I wish Tulsa has something similar.

We were the only guests there when we went in the early afternoon. The restaurant has that hole-in-the-wall atmosphere without the nastiness. It seemed clean and had colorful (but not too overdone) decor that was fun and tropical. The server brought out chips and a bean dip. It was almost like puréed refried black beans with queso fresco sprinkled on top- it's served warm. We thought it was good. I love horchata so that's what I got to drink. It was served in a very cute pottery thing that was almost like a small pot/vase. It wasn't gross, but definitely not what I expected. It tasted like the milk leftover in your bowl after eating Cocoa Puffs. It did not taste like horchata to me. We were intrigued by the passion fruit juice and the cashew juice so we asked for a sample of them. The passion fruit juice was very good, kind of like a mango-pineapple-papaya flavor. Very tropical. The cashew juice was very strange on my pallet. Not gross, but very odd. I honestly can't even describe the taste besides that it was slightly milky but also kinda sweet. Hubby ordered the pork chop meal and loved it. I tried a bite of the meat and thought it was great. It came with fried plantains, which he loves. I ordered the pupusas with chicharron (pork skin) and cheese. They were delicious! Very fresh and hot and super cheesy and filling. The salsa they come with is EXTREMELY spicy. For my son, we ordered something that I can't remember the name of. It was a large flour tortilla (homemade and so good) folded over, with eggs, avocado, refried beans, cheese, and I think some meat on the inside. It was decent but I probably wouldn't order it for myself. Hubby liked it more than I did- maybe I just wasn't in a breakfast mood or didn't care for the combination of foods inside. The downside is that it seemed to take an eternity to get our food. It took at least 30 minutes and only one other table (of two guests) walked in after we ordered. It was clear to us that it was made fresh but I hope they figure out a way to be able to still bring that fresh taste while also getting the food out in a timely manner. We will be back, however, because we both really want to try the beef soup! Give it a shot, the food is pretty good.

A few more tables filled up before we left around 7:00 pm. There are two TVs in the dining room. One showed a soccer game, while the other showed a frozen picture. I hope that they figure out what is wrong with the frozen screen. The table that was already seated when we arrived seemed to be intent on watching the soccer game. They were rather loud but not so loud that we felt that we could not carry on a conversation. This was our first time here. We like trying hole-in-the-wall places, and that's what this place feels like to two non-Spanish speaking people. Our server spoke very good, non-accented English and answered any questions that we had. That was good because the menu was entirely in Spanish. They served us complimentary tortilla chips to start off. Instead of a spicy tomato salsa, they came with a warm bean puree that had queso fresco sprinkled on top of it. We ate the chips before we realized that we could have satisfied our craving for spicy food by asking for some hot sauce. I ordered the Honduran fish platter. It came with a pile of chopped, fried bananas; coleslaw with a light lime dressing; some purple pickled onions; and a room temperature bean puree garnished with queso fresco. The fish was a sight to behold. It was fried and served whole. I like crispy skin, and the underside of the fish satisfied my craving. I enjoyed the coleslaw and pickled onions. The fried bananas were just okay. They were too oily for my taste. They came with two dipping sauces. One was a mayo-based white sauce; the other was a red colored sweet and sour sauce. Dipping them in the sauce did not change the fact that the bananas were too oily for me. Other diners might like them, though. My wife ordered the tacos. They were more like what you expect when you order taquitos or flautas at a Tex-Mex restaurant: filling rolled up in a corn tortilla and then deep fried. There was a mix of chicken and beef fillings, and they were garnished with some lettuce, chopped tomato, and chopped onion. She enjoyed it, especially because she likes crunchy things. We were full from dinner, so we did not order any dessert.
