Passed by this old, plantation style little building so many times growing up, but never thought to stop by here up until a few months ago before a long walk on Thompson Road. This place is old school and it shows, but that's also part of it's charm. Totally fitting for the upcountry atmosphere. The little store offers a little bit everything. From drinks and snacks, to canned goods and laundry detergent; they had many essentials on hand. They also have hot dogs! Wish I knew that the first time around 'cause I was SO hungry at the time and wanted more than a snack. Just ask them and they'll ask for your toppings of choice -- I went with mayo and ketchup. Not to mention, it's cheap! Like $1.50 or less if I remember correctly. I would definitely recommend stopping by here if you're in the area and need a quick snack. It's the perfect place to stock up if you're planning to take the back road to Hana too. Best of all, you'll be supporting a local business! Just don't forget to bring CASH. No credit/debit cards accepted. Right now they're open at 8am - 5pm on Monday - Saturday and 8 am - 2 pm on Sundays. Due to COVID, face masks are now required and only 2 customers are allowed in the store at a time. Please also be mindful and practice social distancing.

What great find. This little store has been here since 1920. Originally owned by Kevin's father in law, Kevin and his wife decided to carryon her legacy. The store is located in a very remote part of the island and definitely one of the last stop for snacks on your way to Maui Off-Road Adventure. Kevin the owner is so friendly and stocks a good variety of local snacks and commercial favorites. He also has odds and ends. I picked up a chapstick some local favorites and a couple of waters. This was on the way to M.O.RA. On the way back we all enjoyed a delicious hot dog for $1.25 each. There happened to be a local there and he shared his Fritos with us. We all sat out front eating our dogs and chips! Please stop by on your way anywhere.l, he will appreciate the visitors and have a seat on the red bench and enjoy a dog. Mahalo! I plan a return visit! We we visit Maui I like to visit various mom and pop stores because they take me back to my childhood where I had to walk pretty far to get home from school but I always had a few coins saved to buy candy from these little stores. Sometimes each store sells a specialty item sometimes not but most of these have reminders of a long time ago. At Fong's there was a refrigerator or freezer that looked like it dated back the 50's in excellent condition. I was told Fong Store dated back to 1921 and there are fewer of these stores around so someday they will all be gone. It's a nice stop to get a few snacks or drinks and admire how well preserved the store is.

I really enjoy coming here whenever we are in the area. Old school mom and pops kinda store. Really friendly service and cool atmosphere. Hot dogs are the brown ones I prefer the red ones. But come support this place if you're out here

The staff was welcoming and offered to be of assistance in finding anything one was particularly looking for. This store was very clean and appealing. This convenience and souvenir store chain serves as a one-stop shop for grab-and-go food (cold and hot offerings) including drinks/liquor/ice cream, all types of souvenir island home & gifts, and many types of souvenir tchotchkes from keychains to stuffed animals. There is a large selection of beach gear as well as Hawaiian apparel. Prices of the clothing are quite reasonable and the quality good. In the back, you will find a food court with endless options, whether you grab what is already laid out or order fresh off the menu. I had the California roll twice, and the rice was so soft with a perfect rice-to-filling ratio, easily the best California roll I have ever had. I also tried the BBQ flatbread, which was pretty good. Ordering off the menu was also a great option. I got the fried rice and galbi, which came with sides and were all delicious. One thing my friend could not stop talking about was the poke, which was slightly on the spicier side but fresh, soft, and very tasty. This place has it all, and you really cannot go wrong. It might be a bit more on the expensive side depending on what you get, but it is pretty in line with the rest of Hawaii's pricing. Do yourself a favor and check it out. You can also grab groceries and snacks while you are there.

I don't touch musubi from anywhere else, because they don't compare, and turns out to be a waste of money and expectations. 7-11 does it just right. I've been avoiding this review for a long time. I'm hoping that this message will actually land in…read morethe hands of the corporate management team. I live on Maui. I shop at this Safeway constantly. I also shop at the two other Safeway stores in Kahului. There's a glaring issue at this store which is often noticed by several shoppers as we all search the: Entrances, self-checkout, every checkout line, back to the self-checkout and then... Back outside to get a cart because there's absolutely zero hand baskets to grab a few items. None. Chronically. I shop at odd hours. Tonight, 12:30 in the morning? There were none, anywhere. A few weeks ago? Stacks of them. They suddenly disappeared. I shop there daily. I do not buy a cart full of groceries. I live alone and do not dare fill my fridge. A bag of groceries at a time is sufficient. Having to use a cart causes gathering more items than will fit in a bag, which I want to be able to carry in one trip from my parking area to my second floor apartment. Stacks of these baskets just disappear from this store, suddenly. No other nearby grocery stores apparently have this problem. Times? Always a stack by the entrance. Foodland? Always a stack by the entrance. The other Safeway locations? So many it makes me wonder what's actually happening. The employee I spoke to says 'people just take them to their cars and drive away with them.' Ok, sure. Then why not the Times and Foodland baskets? Why not the Safeway location that has two homeless camps nearby? That store has more hand baskets than parking spots! Recently they started charging 15 cents for bags. Maybe I'm just old school but isn't that what the food we pay a lot for is already supposed to cover the costs of? I pay $5 a pound for 5 apples and then I have to pay 15 cents to avoid juggling them? But with any phone number there's an always sale on most items. They will discount items for me sometimes in dollars but if I want to buy enough I can't carry them it's 15 cents more. Oh, and then they also eliminated the bags with carry handles so paying for bags decreased the quality of each bag I have to buy. And I have to use a cart to make my selections, pushing the cart around looking so empty. It's a psychological trick - remove the hand baskets that carry exactly one bag of groceries, make customera use a cart that is easy to impulsively add a few items too many for a bag, charge for bags and decrease the quality of the bags so they're more difficult to carry. Oh, and once you walked all over hoping to find a convenient hand baskets you have to walk back out to the parking lot to get a cart with self-locking wheels that sometimes activate automatically by one of the two entrances. It's the ONLY grocery store on Maui that can't seem to keep track of their hand baskets. Two stars because this problem is isolated to this store and that needs upper management to intervene. Oh, and while I'm getting management on the line - your new flavors of always on sale buy 2 get 1 free items don't ring up correctly - that's a $4.99 sleight of hand, I mean, false advertising that has tricked me a few times until I figured out what the problem is: the new UPC flavor isn't tied to the sale price that the other 7 flavors of same brand and size beverages are displayed with. An entire beverage cooler with every item marked buy 2 get 1 free should have all the prices marked correctly. I have mentioned it to each store 'management' and every cashier corrects it manually because that's the right price. I'll change my rating to 3 stars if you fix the false advertising on the new flavor beverages. I'll make it 4 stars when the hand basket problem gets solved. If the store manager can't figure it out maybe they could ask the management at Times or Foodland just down the road a bit how they are able to keep their baskets - baskets that appear like they have had them for awhile.
