I love to support and visit, mom and pop stores. I always make a stop here when I'm here at Kula, with request to the hubby of course, since he is my Uber driver. Fong Henry General Store is so nostalgic opened in the 1930s, great selection of merchandise at this shop. I needed to grab drinks and also checking out the alcohol selection caught my eyes, the prices are low too! I ended up with few seltzers for the road and tried a new one which I loved! Another reason to make a stop at Fong Henry is for the hot dogs! Yep, they have hot dogs here and It is really good and so cheap too! I loved how it is cooked, hot, fresh, old fashion style. Condiments ( relish, peppers, mayo, ketchup, mustard) are provided. Owner request that you could use the relish/peppers first before the mustard, ketchup, mayo to avoid contaminations of spoons, keep it clean too when using the condiments. I like it better than the Costco hot dogs. I've never met Ken, from the reviews and thank you note on the wall but I always the see the same lady ( owner?) that helped me, she is friendly and she must wonder why I take so many pics of everything at the store. Great service! The hubby and I enjoyed our snack, hot dogs along with our seltzer! I can't wait to visit again and for more hot dogs! Great Mom and Pop store in Kula I love stopping at local market stores like this. This quaint, little store was along Kula Highway just 5 mins from the Sun Yat Sen Park. Established in 1906, the building is old and historic. They offer a variety of snacks, ice cream, beer, soda and sundries. I purchased my favorite chips, Maui Style Onion Chips, and a couple of drinks. I wanted to get one of their shirts too but, unfortunately, they didn't have my size. I wonder if I requested it they could've shipped me one here in the mainland. They operate by cash basis only. The owner was very nice, sweet lady. What hotdog? Passed by this old, plantation style little building so many times growing up, but never thought to stop by here up until a few months ago before a long walk on Thompson Road. This place is old school and it shows, but that's also part of it's charm. Totally fitting for the upcountry atmosphere. The little store offers a little bit everything. From drinks and snacks, to canned goods and laundry detergent; they had many essentials on hand. They also have hot dogs! Wish I knew that the first time around 'cause I was SO hungry at the time and wanted more than a snack. Just ask them and they'll ask for your toppings of choice -- I went with mayo and ketchup. Not to mention, it's cheap! Like $1.50 or less if I remember correctly. I would definitely recommend stopping by here if you're in the area and need a quick snack. It's the perfect place to stock up if you're planning to take the back road to Hana too. Best of all, you'll be supporting a local business! Just don't forget to bring CASH. No credit/debit cards accepted. Right now they're open at 8am - 5pm on Monday - Saturday and 8 am - 2 pm on Sundays. What great find. This little store has been here since 1920. Originally owned by Kevin's father in law, Kevin and his wife decided to carryon her legacy. The store is located in a very remote part of the island and definitely one of the last stop for snacks on your way to Maui Off-Road Adventure. Kevin the owner is so friendly and stocks a good variety of local snacks and commercial favorites. He also has odds and ends. I picked up a chapstick some local favorites and a couple of waters. This was on the way to M.O.RA. On the way back we all enjoyed a delicious hot dog for $1.25 each. There happened to be a local there and he shared his Fritos with us. We all sat out front eating our dogs and chips! Please stop by on your way anywhere.l, he will appreciate the visitors and have a seat on the red bench and enjoy a dog. Mahalo! I plan a return visit! We we visit Maui I like to visit various mom and pop stores because they take me back to my childhood where I had to walk pretty far to get home from school but I always had a few coins saved to buy candy from these little stores. Sometimes each store sells a specialty item sometimes not but most of these have reminders of a long time ago. At Fong's there was a refrigerator or freezer that looked like it dated back the 50's in excellent condition. I was told Fong Store dated back to 1921 and there are fewer of these stores around so someday they will all be gone. It's a nice stop to get a few snacks or drinks and admire how well preserved the store is. read more

Ambience: The owners of this store are super friendly and take time to get to know the customers. They are incredibly helpful with directions as they know Maui very well. Food: Get the hot dogs! I had a hot dog with the pepper relish and it was delicious. They also have a wide variety of ice cream, popsicles, beverages, and other food. That's insane, you need to seriously think about how Yelp affects small business and you slurring your in-comprehensive power trip of a review does nothing for anybody but stroke your ego. I had a great time talking to Kevin the owner while eating some of their great hotdogs. I also asked him to use the bathroom and he replied that the closest one was a 10 second drive away. So sorry to have not posted before. We have been three times to maui and after the visit this has been a regular visit for us. Kevin is always welcoming and feel at home. Hot dogs ! We've stopped at the Henry Fong store several times. There's not much in there (we just get a Snapple), but it's a real old school place and the people at the counter are very friendly. I get a kick out of the painted sign at the top of the front of the building...Henry Fong store 19.. that's it, just 19. I've asked about it a couple of times and somehow it never got finished. The best thing they've got in there are their store t-shirts. If you like 'vacation' t-shirts that aren't touristy and are unique, get one of theirs. The price $10 or $12 as I recall. The best t-shirt deal around and it's a cool t-shirt. read more
