Tried this place for the first time. If you love orange chicken then you will love the sesame chicken! I love mongolian beef, but this place has some pretty salty and medium heat mongolian beef, so keep that in mind if you're interested. It's no joke, salty, and I love salt. I ordered salt pepper fish and pork (2 dishes), and bbq pork fried rice. The salt pepper smelt was really on point! So is the pork. Crispy yet juicy. A hint of spiciness but not really spicy. The bbq pork was a little disappointing... the bbq pork wasn't sweet and neither was it caramelized. The rice has too much soy sauce. It was not inedible but the previous dishes set my expectations so high this one did not meet the mark. They do give chicken noodle soup for every order and I thought that's a fun way to implement a good chinese tradition while implementing the need of customer based on the demographics. Great food! The place's (I think) manager is an Asian lady, Mandy. She interacts with her customers well and knows her customers even by name! I can't tell you how many places I've been to (as a regular) which still do not know my face. She is funny and sweet. However, if you do try to play with fire, she will fight fire with fire, as I've seen in the past. In these situations I've seen while waiting for my food, there have been instances where the customer was definitely in the wrong. This woman runs this restaurant close to on her own, and yet her smoothies and food come out fabulously! I ordered Mongolian Beef--large order--and seriously there were 6 little pieces of beef. Mostly onions and some mushrooms. Now they only give you a very small rice for a large Entree so I ordered an extra rice. Unfortunately I won't be back. It was just under $20 and really no beef to speak of. I'll go to Jess Cafe from now on even though it is a little further from my house. Their prices have gone up a lot and they have cut the meat portion so much it's ridiculous. Well, well, well what a wonderful treat! I moved from Logan Square about 4 months ago and I have been trying to find a place with good Chinese food since. I had hit up a couple other spots prior to Fong's and have not been fully satisfied. Last night , I took a gamble and it paid off. The Spicy Chicken was baller! Super spicy with hints of ginger. Honestly this dish was not how I was expecting it to be but it surprised the hell out of me. I wanted to eat the whole box! Tons of flavor and heat! The Garlic Beef was also pretty dang good. Good chunks of meat and amazing flavor! House Rice without shrimp was also outstanding. So flavorful and packed with great pieces of meat. The Crab Rangoon were also pretty good. The filling was a sweet blend of crap and cream cheese, so delicious. The only downside were the Pot Stickers. Pretty disappointing. The dough was too thick. They didn't have that good crunch too then. The sauce for them was better than some other places I have ordered from but all and all, I would not have to get those again. I will be back Fong's! I need to explore some other items on the menu and I am really excited about it! read more

In a word Fantastic. The Mongolian Beef is on the sweet side but that's the way I like it. I ask for no spice so they left the peppers out. It does come with mushrooms which is a little weird for this dish but they have a good flavor. The Egg Drop Soup is just egg and green onions/chives which again is perfect. After reading all the great reviews on Yelp, decided to give it a try. Overall it was pretty good. I had the won ton soup which had a lot of won ton dumplings in it, there was barely enough broth. Dumplings were very tasty but broth was a little lacking. Next onto the egg roll and crab Rangoon. The egg roll was just okay, not the best I've ever tried. The crab Rangoon was tasty even though it's made with "krab". What I was most interested in was the Mongolian beef which did not disappoint! It was a little spicy, the beef was tender, and the sauce was absolutely delicious! It's been a long time since I've found a Chinese restaurant that makes an authentic Mongolian beef! I'll definitely be back for that again! Lastly tried the Empress chicken which had a good amount of spice and flavor. The owners were very nice and accommodating and I'll definitely include them in my rotation of take-out establishments even though it's nearly 5 miles away from where I live. Not a big fan of the egg roll; the hot/sour soup was hot and sour and delicious ... only $4.55 for large container that easily serves 3 or 4. The lunch chicken & veges was tasty and almost more than I could finish; the veges were crispy and fresh. The basil shrimp mei fun was delightful... lots of large shrimps, al dente noodles, hot pepper that went down smooth but finished spicy...terrific. Very friendly staff. First timer and a little underwhelmed with my food. Delivery was relatively decent but ordered enough food for left overs. It's suppose to be in the teens here in Chicago tomorrow (staying at the Crowne Plaza O'hare Airport). I ordered hot and sour soup, chicken wings, house rice, and Mongolian beef. I couldn't enjoy the soup or Mongolian beef because the chicken wings and rice were prepared in unclean oil that it ruined my taste buds. I've got that nasty scratchy feel in the back of my throat and had to drink a liter of water to rid that feeling, ugh! I will say; however, the Mongolian beef was very tasty so my 3 stars were for that and delivery. The soup was pretty good too. I blame myself because I was going to order Giordano's or Gino's deep dish pizza but the delivery time was almost 90 minutes. Guess they make it fresh for real! Fong's had good reviews and of course reviews, (like mine) are subjective so I tend to try venues for myself. Ordered chicken chow mein for takeout. Instead of chow mein, they gave me rice. This was the most flavorless and fake tasting Chinese food I have ever had. The chicken was slimy (not even sure if it was real chicken or chicken from a can!) and had ZERO seasoning. The rice was over cooked and mush. I enjoyed the food, the fish got a little doughie after a while but next time I'll eat it first and it'll be just fine. The only problem I had with this place was that the delivery time was an hour (I was told it would be on the phone so it's not like I was waiting for food that never showed) and I was hoping it could be quicker. The upside is the food was good. My last little problem was that I didn't want white rice with the order and was hoping for more flexibility in substituting a different item. While the service can be a little friendlier, I found the Chicken Cantonese Chow Mein (#170) quite acceptable and at under $10, it's a good buy. My wife and I also liked the General Tso's Chicken and the Ginger Scallion Beef.
