    Reasonable prices

Looking for a sushi spot on our drive back to the burbs, we came across New Star on yelp. Parking lot is shared with another hot spot of the area - Johnnys beef and hot dogs. There were a couple of people picking up to go orders before us, but then we were seated promptly. Menu is huge! They have traditional dishes as well as sushi. With our order, we were also given hot tea and cucumbers. My sushi roll had a nice kick to it. I ordered the Mongolian beef and it had a good amount of beef and vegetables. Prices were very reasonable as well. Sure, our server did disappear at times, but we got our order in promptly and didn't need much assistance. Definitely recommend this spot.

Our initial server was a little pushy at first and tried to get us all to order the item happy couple. The food, even for hibachi, was a bit oily. All the food was cooked at a different time so we eneded up having to eat our entree in shifts. In particular, the veggies came out last and we hardly ate any of those despite trying to eat more balanced in our daily life. The fried rice was done first followed shortly by the noodles so we had a while to eat on them before anything else. On the positive side, it seemed to be a very popular and family friendly restaurant. It was packed with a lot of people and lots of families at that. Despite that, you got a table for a lot of people on short notice very quickly. Our hibachi cook was very friendly, especially to our daughter. He even gave her food even though she didn't order an entree. That being said, there was plenty of food to go around. My wife and I had 4 to go boxes full of food at the end despite having eaten quite a lot already. The portions here are beyond generous. All of the meat and seafood was perfectly cooked and the exact specified doneness for our family members who ordered steaks.

Came here for my birthday today with some friends and my son. First off. They have a childrens menu!!!! And a crayons to color and a toy! 10 points on a 10 point scale!!! They used to do pictures for the birthday guest. Not sure if our server was new But that wasn't offered and no free dessert other than fortune cookies and almond cookies which they give to everyone. That's good enough for me. I don't think he realized we were celebrating a birthday even though there was a giant birthday balloon!!! Oh well. I love this place. Always something for all dietary needs. Just ask for what you need. They vegetarian sushi!!! The child menu comes with a hearty serving of rice and appetizer and entree. Also comes with dessert of ice cream although our server forgot to bring it and we didn't bother to remind him. The lunch menu is very extensive with many choices of an entree. I didn't even realize my meal came w an egg roll and soup! Very filling and delicious. I'll be back like usual. Next time for the hibachi since my husband hasn't had that experience.

Stopped in for dinner this evening. Place was jumping already at 430 but we were seated immediately. I had shrimp egg foo young and the party with me had shrimp almond ding. Both were very good. Also had a veggie egg roll to get things started. Service was excellent. All in all a very good visit. Price point was very reasonable also This is a must stop if you're hungry and in the area

The food is always amazing and I'm so impressed by their bags. The Mother's Day bag was so pretty and they gave my son a toy and me a scarf. So nice!!!! Thank you!!!

This place keeps coming up as a recommendation whenever someone in the neighborhood starts asking about a good Chinese place so I decided we needed to try it. It was indeed pretty good. They have BBQ pork fried rice, which I don't find terribly often at restaurants around here (or at least not the ones I frequent) and that was quite good. They also have egg fried rice which I find even less and is my favorite. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken and I liked it for the most part. The sweet and sour was really good; sometimes a place makes it way too sweet. The chicken was ok, though the breading was a little thick at times. I would return here, and I probably will... but it's too far away for more than a very occasional trip since it's about 30 minutes away from me. There doesn't seem to be any parking here for the restaurant specifically, but there's street parking... although Johnnie's Beef is a couple doors down so the parking can be pretty competitive around here at times.

I really enjoy coming here but word of advice is to make sure your entire party is there; otherwise they won't seat you. It's a nice family ambiance in the front and hibachi is in the back. Heads up...you get enough food for at least 2 days! We ended up doing the happy couple which comes with shrimp, chicken and steak. You also get ice cream as a dessert with this. The food here never disappoints and the portion sizes are huge! Love that you get noodles and rice. The drinks were meh. One person in my party ordered an espresso martini and it came out looking like they just put a bunch of creamer in it. And the mojito just had big ole mint leaves that weren't chopped... All in all it won't prevent me from coming back, I just won't get any drinks.

First time, so far it was good. The portions are huge! I got the sample tray and the rib was amazing so was the pork I did get two wontons without the stuffing inside and the deep fried shrimp was too greasy for me. Service was fast and everyone was kind and welcoming. The atmosphere is super chill and place is clean and well kept. I got the sesame chicken and it was tasty and tender and had enough sauce.

See this is where I see a combo restaurant that may last a while on my go too. The food here was great aside from the white rice which didn't really appeal without the entree it was overall a great meal. The service was good until the waiter made it seem like they wanted to turn the table quicker. The ambiance is wonderfully spacious and very relaxing if I should say. I'd feel confident going back in to try something different. See ya there !

New Star has been a staple for our family for years, and every time we come back, it reminds us why. When we're craving Asian cuisine, this is the first place that comes to mind. The food always arrives piping hot, beautifully plated, and full of rich flavor. Their lunch specials are generously portioned and priced so well that it almost feels like a hidden gem you want to keep to yourself. Whether we dine in or order delivery, the experience is consistently smooth. Delivery is impressively quick, and everything shows up fresh--not soggy, not lukewarm, just perfectly prepared. Inside, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, with staff who greet you like they've known you forever. They're friendly and attentive, though service inside can be a little slow at times, especially when they're busy. I will say that over the years, the quality has dipped just slightly--not enough to turn us away, but enough to notice here and there. Even so, it's still one of our family favorites, the kind of place we keep coming back to because it's familiar, comforting, and full of memories. It works for so many occasions: a casual family dinner, a comforting meal after a long day, or even hosting a banquet--the space and service adapt beautifully. New Star has been around for decades, and once you eat here, you understand exactly why. It's one of those rare restaurants that never loses its charm or the feeling of home it brings.

I can't believe I have never reviewed New Star. I've been eating here since I was a kid now I bring my kiddo here. We love it. The portions are plentiful and the food is delicious. Today we tried the hibachi for the first time and we were impressed. My kiddo ordered the shrimp kids meal with noodles and soup (crazy to me noods cost $3 since they're already being made for everyone else) the chef also gave her a scoop of chicken fried rice as well. I ordered the steak and shrimp. It was delicious. I have zero complaints. We also ordered virgin daiquiris. We left feeling content with plenty of leftovers. We can probably get another 2 or more meals honestly. The noodles and fried rice were so dang good garlicky and delicious. Our meal was about $90 with tip.

One of my favorite restaurants, enjoy the luncheon specials. They offer Chinese mainstay s and sushi & sashimi. I ordered the sashimi and my guest ordered the Mongolian beef lunch. The luncheon specials come with soup, egg roll, entree, white or fried rice and cookie and fortune cookie. Our meal was delicious. Try New Star, you will not be disappointed!

Came here for our Women's Group celebration for our church. There were about 20-25 of us and we had a semi private room off to the side of the restaurant. The servers were really great and attentive. They came to check in on us every few minutes or so and were very friendly. We ordered several entrees to share per table but the walnut shrimp dish was my favorite along with the chicken satay. They have several dishes available for everyone to order so something for everyone. There is parking available in the lot off to the side or behind the restaurant. If you are craving some good Chinese food with a little bit of an upscale feel, definitely check out New Star Restaurant!

Do they take reservations on Mondays?

You do not need reservations, I always just walk in

Do they have the skinny noodle low mein or do we have to ask for something special to get the skinny noodles, my husband only likes the skinny(its the only skinny we got going for us, lol) Also, do they have Pad See Ewe?

Yes, we do have the skinny noodle (we call pan fry noodles), also; we do have the Pad See Ewe. Thanks!

They say they kept the original Moy menu? Really? Then where is the Lechee Duck?

Because that dishes no body order for many months that why we take off from the menu, very sorry.

Is the lunch special for hibachi on sunday?

    Sorry, I don't know.

    Is the hibachi menu online?

    Yes, see www.newstarrestaurant.com

Do they have yum yum sauce?

    Yes!

Are you on Grub Hub or any other online ordering service?

    No, sorry. Not yet.

    Is this place handicap accessible?

    Unfortunately not

I moved to Florida several years ago but loved this restaurant for the lobster fried rice and chicken and broccoli fried rice omg delicious... my question is when did they move and do they still serve the same dishes ❤️?

They didn't move - still in same spot on North Avenue. They have renovated the place and expanded the menu to include sushi, Thai and Hibachi. But many of the traditional New Star favorites are still in place.

    Is this place byob?

No we have a full bar.

I know it's not the hostess' fault but absolutely terrible moods starting. They definitely should've called people and let people know that they are an hour behind because then it would give people the opportunity who drove 45 minutes like us the opportunity to cancel. I can't even rate the food because we didn't get it. We finally got seated around 8:30 and the food was really good. The chef was impressive and the servers were very attentive. We ended up getting out of here about 10 o'clock so if we had plans after our reservation initially at 7:45, we probably wouldn't have made them, but thankfully we didn't have anything after and it was a fun experience. We probably won't come back to this location as we live in the city, but the quality of the quantity of the food was plenty. The chef was relatively attentive and very skillful. We ordered the edamame, crispy calamari, Benihana trio, and A5 Japanese wagyu combo. Before the meat was cooked, the color of the meat was gray. Not that it's no longer good to eat, but definitely not appetizing... The amount of butter that was added to the veggies and meat was also terrifying. Let me put it this way, my lactose intolerance wasn't happy with that amount. Our server never checked on us after the soup and salad was brought to us. We finally found her toward the end of the meal and let her know the calamari was missing. She then found out it was delivered to the wrong table. We did warn the server about sesame allergy. She double checked with the kitchen about cross contamination but never warned us about the sesame paste dipping sauce for the meat... Overall, service was bad and food was not great.
