We also had the Kimchi Chow Udon and I thought it would be super spicy but it just had a kick to it which was very nice because i was able to enjoy the kimchi and beef flavor. Ming Chef has a lot of different items on their menu. Went with some friends so I was able to try a few of their dishes. I ordered their Thai milk tea with tapioca. I was hoping for a little bit sweeter, it was kind of bland to me. We had their popcorn chicken and crab rangoon for appetizers. The popcorn chicken was tasty but the pieces were really small. Entrees we had pad Thai, eel/beef cubed and rice, and some others I can't remember the names. Overall everything came out pretty quickly. Our server was nice as we were one the last customers and we didnt feel rushed. The chicken pad Thai wasn't my favorite its flavor profile wasn't as strong and sweet as I am used to. The teriyaki chicken was actually good as the chicken wasn't overcooked. If I'm in the area I would stop by again. read more

Food is the best Asian I've had locally since the many Asian restaurants in the area and surrounding suburbs have closed. The mango lychee smoothie was spot-on though. I've passed by this spot a few times while working in downtown Elmhurst and finally stopped in when I couldn't find parking near my usual lunch place. This spot had plenty, so I gave it a shot. I've ordered three times now. The Green Curry (both dinner and lunch portions) is delicious definitely a favorite. Lunch portions are perfect and come with an egg roll and soup, but I didn't like either soup option. I asked to switch soups, even with an upcharge, but was told no, which was a bit disappointing. Since this has been opened, this has been my to go to Asian restaurant mostly on the way to my brother's house for me to pick up dinner. We also order from here for our annual family dinner on Christmas Day. They have their own private parking space in the front and in the back of their restaurant. When you walk in, there is a bench for waiting takeout as well as an extensive menu of different Boba shake, and smoothies to order. It's a very spacious place very bright and clean they have TV screens that show international stations. They have a smoothie bar as well to sit if you want to drink or eat. They have both paper menu or a tablet that you would select the dishes you want to order without waiting for the weight staff to take your order. They have a nice extensive menu. They no longer offer coupons of food when you spend a certain amount of money. But nonetheless, they have been improving on dishes that I'm familiar with at a chain Chinese Vietnamese restaurant called Joy yee. They also have a good size menu of Boba drinks shakes or smoothies. This is what we typically order and would continue ordering. Shrimp tempura appetizer- good to snack on but we asked for regular sweet-and-sour sauce packets because the side sweet-and-sour sauce is spicy. -Wonton soup To go is good here they separate the wontons and the seasonings from the broth you put it together when you arrive to your destination, so your wonton won't get soggy. -Crab Rangoon good also, if you don't like hot sweet-and-sour sauce, ask for the regular sweet and sour sauce packets. -Beef cube over tomato rice. This is my husband's favorite. He likes it's sweet and also he asked for a side of sunny side up fried egg. -Korean barbecue ribs always a good one. The beef is sweet and soft. Sometimes you get large bone tips others are medium to small bones. -Garlic shrimp soft noodles, one of our favorites. Also, my nephew and niece loves them. -Cauliflower and broccoli vegetable comes in a white sauce flavorful to get your vegetables Snow pea leaves, sautéed and garlic sauce we like this they only have it if it's available. -Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce and or garlic sauce both are good flavored vegetable side dish. -Szechuan Japanese eggplant dish. It's OK a little bit greasy because it's fried and salty because of the sauce. -shrimp and fried tofu vegetables it was OK but the shrimp and the tofu was tough of texture. -shrimp and lobster sauce is a white sauce that was OK. -lemongrass fried chicken wings is OK it's naked fried. -chicken fried rice pretty good size for an order tasty. -Bulgogi Korean shredded beef on top of white rice is a pretty good dish. -kimchi on the side is good a bit spicy. -salt and pepper fried pork i've ordered this a couple of times sometimes it's greasy other times it's pretty good crispy -Japchae Korean noodles we're good and all the different meats. We were happy with especially the beef. -steam 1/2 shredded chicken with ginger and greens onion really good not greasy and no soy sauce would get again. -honey walnut fried shrimp with steam broccoli dish is good. -Salt and pepper smelt can be sometimes spicy. The smelt is sometimes crunchy depending how they're cooking them that day. -teriyaki chicken dish is pretty tasty. I would get this again. -Hot and sour soup is your typical soup but this place is pretty hardy with all the fixings. -chicken pad Thai lunch is a good dish, sweet and plenty of noodles. -Beef chow fun was OK not your typical Chinatown style though. -Mongolian beef is OK but they put vegetables with it. Not your typical Chinatown style. -beans sautéed with beef is a good dish a little bit salty. -fresh spring rolls with shrimp and a side of hoisin peanut sauce appetizer was pretty good -softshell crab deep-fried appetizer is pretty good if you like that dish -Japanese fried tofu with assorted mushroom dish is pretty good would get that again. -they also sell different kinds of pho noodle soups here haven't tried them yet. Drinks -avocado smoothie with tapioca is good, sometimes we would ask for avocado smoothie no tapioca but too smaller cups for the kids. It's an additional $.50. -coconut taro smoothie with tapioca -watermelon smoothie with bursting strawberry flavored pearls -Thai iced tea smoothie with tapioca was pretty good There's more on the menu I would like to try. We typically try one new dish add onto our typical order if we like it or not. Overall, it's a good restaurant to try if you're in the area. They also have a good lunch special as well. And sometimes they have special dishes going on that is off the menu. You would see it near the Boba menu at the entrance of the door. We stumbled into this quant Asian resto in the heart of Elmhurt after searching for new place to eat to celebrate my oldest son's bday. Their menu is basically almost identical to the ones we go to all the time. But we didn't expect it to be much better. It's more flavorful and you can really taste each dish well. The spices is well define. I love how the salt and pepper smelt is not salty it's crunchy but not too much. It just well blended in the smelt itself. The beef cubes in tomato rice has been my staple dish and is was definitely #1 for me. I can go on and on, in general all the dishes we ordered was absolutely delicious. We stopped in for lunch on a weekday right when they opened. There weren't many customers so service and food preparation was speedy. At noon, dine-in and carry-out customers started to roll in steadily. Their lunch specials are moderately priced and portions are decent. For my money, you can't go wrong starting with the hot&sour soup! The small bowl is plenty! Add the shrimp tempura appetizer. Then split the beef vermicelli noodles with your favorite person AND you'll still have enough noodles/beef for lunch the next day! I have been looking for a new place to enjoy Asian cuisine since we moved into this area from Rolling Meadows. I was immediately drawn in to Ming Chef by the bright modern exterior and interior. Such a nice departure from traditional dark Chinese places. The food was so beautifully prepared and presented. My husband ordered his safe choice, fried rice and enjoyed an elevated version of his favorite with tender barbecued pork. I ordered a mushroom and shrimp dish that was offered over wide rice noodles. So delicious! The variety of mushrooms really set this dish apart. Kenny helped us narrow down our choices from the expansive menu to suit my need for novelty as well as my husband's spice-phobic palate. Kenny also treated us to custom bobo tea for desert. Went here after church for lunch and it was a pleasant experience. I had beef and vegetables while my husband had a whole Tilapia, pricing was fair and customer service was excellent. I loved the milk tea and boba, it was so yummy. The restaurant didn't have a lot of people when we were there which I really liked because it gave us space and intimacy as we don't go on dates frequently and so when we do go, we love to spend time together and not scream to hear each other out if you get what I mean. This the my third time coming here to try out more dishes. Overall not bad but I can tell crispy food is not their specialty. Salt pepper fish - it isn't very crispy or well seasoned. I didn't taste any jalapeño and the fish was a bit soggy. Salt pepper pork chop- same as salt pepper fish. Not very crispy or well seasoned. It was cooked well and the meat wasn't dry but it isn't anything special. Tofu dish- it is ok, just not my preferred taste for tofu. Hou fun- cooked very well. They give tons of meat and noodle. It also isn't too oily. Lobster- it's not bad but it could have been stir fried in the wok for longer. I didn't taste any of the Wok Hei taste you get from traditional Cantonese lobster dishes. A huge menu and pretty solid food makes Ming Chef a worthy stop. I ordered the sesame chicken and thought the portions were very generous. The sauce was thick and sweet. The white rice they included was awesomely sticky - perfect for inclusion in your meal. I do wish they'd provide the option for brown rice. I grabbed pickup, so I can't speak to the dine-in experience, but carryout was efficient and the adjoining parking lot makes it easy to get in and out. We came here after recommendations from fellow Yelpers and we enjoyed our weekday evening dinner here! They were open until 9:30pm, which worked out great since we got there around 8:00pm. There was still ample groups in there dining, so it was nice to see other people around eating a later dinner like we did. The restaurant is very big, so there is plenty of seating. I would say it's really good for groups. The menu is also very big, so it can be daunting. We went with the strategy of picking one noodle dish and one rice dish. We ordered the Vietnamese Fried Pork Egg Rolls. These were pretty decent. I don't think there was anything too special about them though. The Pad Kee Mao was amazing. We got it with tofu, which I probably wouldn't necessarily do again since the tofu was dry, but the rest of the vegetables in it were really good. I loved the slight bit of charred crunch to the wide rice noodles. I bet the other chow fun dishes would be really tasty too. As an aside, I didn't love that our server gave me a bit of sass when I asked for Pad Kee Mao to be spicy because it "is always spicy". We also got the Korean Spicy Pork Fried Stone Bowl Rice. It was fine. I guess I was expecting more of a bibimbap situation, but it was mostly just pork, onions, and an egg over rice. The stone bowl was nice, but not the same caliber as the ones from Korean restaurants, where the rice actually crisps up. The service was good initially but never asked about water refills or anything else. The place is clean and they were quick to clear the table which made it nicer to sit a while longer to catch up. There wasn't much of a crowd so we didn't feel bad staying a bit longer. If they actually continued with follow-up service, we probably would have ordered dessert or at a least another fruit drink; oh well. Ming Chef Asian Cuisine was an awesome find on a busy street. My husband and I were greeted and led to our table right away. The server was very attentive and we got our waters right away. There is a very extensive menu. It can take you a while to find something to eat if you don't know what you're looking for. We ordered the French beef cube stone bowl rice and the barbecue pork and wonton noodles soup. the beef cubes were delicious and the sauce that covered them was sweet and spicy. The stone bowl did a great job of keeping the food hot. After twenty minutes the food was still hot and had to be cooled before it could be eaten. The dish came with kimchee. I cannot eat spicy food and this was not clear from the description on the menu. The wonton soup had a great chicken broth and was loaded with wontons. I counted six wontons. There was a very healthy helping of noodles in the soup. The barbecue pork was tender and fatty, just the way I like it.. This was plenty of food to fill us up. I very highly recommend Ming Chef Asian Cuisine. The food was fantastic as was the service. I will be back to try more dishes when I'm in the area. read more

Ordered from this place online several times and their food has always been great. They have never missed a step over the last 2 years of ordering. I just realized that they also make the best Boba tea. Just yesterday, I ordered Strawberry Fresh Fruit Tea with Popping Strawberry boba and my wife and I loved it. She got smoothie instead but preferred my tea. So today I went somewhere else for Boba tea and it was not the same. Ming's use of fresh strawberries and lemon slices along with, I assume, strawberry infused tea, makes for a light, refreshing summer beverage. I highly recommend this place! read more

Ming Chef is worth the visit (and then some)! If you've lived around Chicagoland and enjoy Asian food, you've most likely had Joyee Noodle (located in both Chicago and Naperville). If you don't want to drive out to those locations, you can check out Ming Chef in Elmhurst for some solid dishes and drinks. My husband and I visited the restaurant on a Saturday evening around 6:45pm and were promptly seated. We ordered the Beef cubes over tomato rice, the chicken and shrimp pad Thai, and a half serving of the roasted duck. Portion sizes were ginormous, and we will most likely be eating two more meals from our leftovers. Beef Cubes - a fan favorite, and the tomato rice tasted the exact same as Joyee's. The beef cubes could have used a little bit more sauce, but overall, a solid 4.5/5. Chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai - I've gotten the same dish at Joyee, and honestly, if you want legit Thai food, go to a Thai restaurant. You get what you ask for coming to a pan-Asian restaurant. I most likely will not be ordering it next time 3/5. Roasted Duck - the roasted duck was absolutely divine! The duck was cooked deliciously, and the meat was so moist! 7/5, definitely would recommend. Drinks - my husband ordered the lychee watermelon freeze with tapioca and I got the avocado freeze with tapioca. Both drinks were great 5/5 and tapioca was well cooked (if you like chewier textures). This building is quite nice, large, and clean. I picked up some takeout for the family and purchased quite a few items from their online menu. The online menu was very easy to access and purchase through. The Vietnamese spring rolls were packed tight with a thick and delicious peanut sauce. It's been a while since I've had a great Vietnamese spring roll, and now I have a favorite, thanks to Ming Chef. We ordered three entrees and a fried rice for four people, which will be meals for another day or two. The Mongolian Beef felt like you were eating a steak. The Orange Chicken wasn't too sweet, but enough to keep your mouth watering. The Hunan Chicken had enough peanuts and protein to keep you full, not full of sauce, but not dry either. The Veggie Fried rice was lightly sauced, not full of salt, but packed with veggies. We really enjoyed this restaurant. We have been struggling to find decent Chinese food in the area, and we finally found it with Ming Chef. I definitely suggest ordering from here, whether it's dining in or taking out. read more

We asked to sit in the corner and the guy was worried we will not like it since they're expecting a party to come in. That was nice of him. Wonton soup was ok. I've had better broth and wonton. That was a 2.5/5 star. Spicy beef noodle was good but my hubby was not fond of it. I liked the chewy noodle and the taste of the soup actually. It came with meatball and beef. I ordered purple basil seafood and out came purple basil "mussels." Yes, mussels. I asked the waitress and she even showed me what she had put in "seafood". Since I don't like to waste food, I took the mussel over the seafood. What a mistake, I didn't like the taste of the mussel. And we were not given any discount for their mistake whatsoever. Nada. Fish with black bean, hubby enjoyed it. Breaded with brown gravy. Beef With Chinese broccoli chow mein. I ordered no carrots and it came out WITH carrots. I was loving it in the beginning until I got down below it and tasted the salty brown sauce after mixing it. I'm not a salty eater and that was too salty for the egg noodles. Basil shrimp fried rice was oily. Hubby's favorite food. He had to mix in the white rice. But it was good otherwise. Ice cold water is a plus. I mean lotsa "Ice". Thank you for that at summer time. The shrimp were fine, but the batter wasn't fully cooked. Damp tempura. The dipping sauce was excellent. My main was the spicy beef and green beans. This was good, not overly sauced or salty. What a pleasant surprise to find delicious Pan Asian cuisine with plenty of parking near downtown Elmhurst. This restaurant also features plenty of items presented nicely with large portions in a large sized building but with reasonable prices and friendly service. This reminds me of places like Joy Yee's and Wonton Gourmet, with a similar quality of cooking to match. On this visit, I had the chance to try two items. The Beef Cube Fried Egg Stone Bowl Rice was a good mix of lots of different flavors. The beef cubes were cooked very tender with a good dose of sweetness and strong pepper flavor at the same time. This matched quite well with the kimchee which was bright and spicy at the same time. Combined together, it created a nice umami and complex layer of flavors. I also liked how the rice was nice and fluffy, showing some extra care to prepare different types of rice for different dishes. The BBQ Pork Wonton Noodle Soup was pretty good as well, the noodles were cooked to be just slightly firm in a fairly flavorful chicken broth with plenty of green onion. The char siu was a little on the fattier side which I enjoy and cut in a slightly thicker portion that's closer to what you'll find in ramen. While the wonton had a nice silky wrapping and had a good amount of meat filling, it was a little underseasoned for me (maybe would have been nice with some red vinegar). This wasn't enough to detract away from the overall dish however. Overall, this is a good pan-asian option if you're in Elmhurst and would like to try some more unique items in a spacious restaurant with reasonable prices and large portions. read more

We were first greeted by the frustrated and panicked owner. She was visibly annoyed by our presence as she seated us. Our orders were taken promptly by the waitress, but we only received half of the meals we ordered. It took an hour and a half to receive the tasteless, bland, freezer burned food that tasted like it was microwaved. I lived in Southeastern Asia for many years, so I know what authentic Chinese cuisine tastes like and it's not this. The other downside was that we heard shouting coming from the kitchen. There was a line out the door for to go orders, and customers were being shouted at as they received their to go orders.
