I have been searching for commercially made tamales. I found them at Food City. I especially enjoy their beef ones. I've tried the chicken ,however, they did not appeal to me. The beef tamales have a great masa. They taste as if some of the beef favor has been added, giving them the homemade taste. The chicken tamales flavor would improve if only the red flavor was added. I'm also pleased that the tamales have been available year round. I have recommend them to friends. read more

The staff are all very helpful and welcoming. They say good morning when you pass and ask if they can help. It is unusual for a busy store to be so welcoming. I seldom get even a hello at Walmart where I shop often. The produce section is fabulous and reasonably priced, the meats are a large variety and you can always find the ingredients for your favorite Mexican recipe which I did today with cooking Pozole for the first time!! We go there regularly for certain mexican food items. Their fresh tortillas and chips are great. They have a huge selection of spices and peppers used in Mexican dishes. Their fresh produce is very good and always of very good quality. Their meats are very good and well priced plus again certain types of cuts typically used in Mexican dishes plus all the regular cuts we're all familiar with. Prices are great. The store while small is very well organized and very clean. I really like the place. read more

My first time at a Food City. Not the large Safeway-type store, but good sized. Plenty of choices for chilis, spices, and other Latin cooking ingredients. That was great. There's a wall full of chilis and tortillas. Produce was abundant. I liked the variety in their aisles. I didn't buy and proteins. They seemed a bit higher than normal. I have been shopping at this location for over a decade- pretty crazy! I love this location. They have a wide variety of food options. Their deli always has fresh, quality food ready to go. Their produce is high quality; great variety of fruits and vegetables. One thing I always buy when I'm here is their frozen tamales and beans- sounds random, but thank me later. My son had a football tournament so we stopped by to pick up some food so my other kids can eat lunch at the park. We bought bread, Ham & chips. When it was time to eat, one of my kids opened the Ham & it looked spoiled. It had a yellowish tint to it & it was on all of the pieces. We looked at the date & it was good until 2020. Because we couldnt leave the park, my kids ate chip sandwiches. Smh read more

There is a lot of selections when it comes to Hispanic foods and whatnot. The place can tend to be a bit dirty at times, but I guess it is just adapting to its surroundings. The prices are very low and the produce quality rivals that of walmart, which in hindsight isn't saying much. There is always a slew of questionable people lurking in and about the groceries store, but once you get past that first initial uncomfortable feeling, you find that it is actually quit simple to just get what you need and hurry off to your car and back to the safety of the other side of the tracks. read more

Working class folks shop here. Don't expect 2" T-Bones or a big organic section in the veggies. Expect good prices on good food, everyday. Shop Thursdays for Veggie specials and Friday for Meat specials. Expect some of the best produce in town. A tortilla maker on site. Lots of product geared to Hispanic tastes. During my search for great tasting Carne Asada, we decided to stop here on our way home. Food City focuses to the Latin community, and what's a better place to find great carne asada then a Latin grocery store? I have been to food city before. It's not my preference, but it's not a bad store. Now the plan was to run in, get the carne, and run out. But the six year old had other plans! So we ran in, had to stop and get a Tamarind lollipop! Then we ended up getting a bottle water, now we finally got to the meat butcher! Got my carne, tried to go back the same way so the six yr old won't find something else. By the time we got to the cashier, we ended up getting a box of cereal, yogurt, water, and her lollipop! Food City has a great selection of fruit, meat, and seafood. Did I find a great place to purchase our carne asada in the future? I think so! We cooked it on Fathers Day, and everyone loved it. Have no complaints, and will continue to go there in the future. read more

I don't normally write reviews for grocery stores but I'm seriously disgusted by this store. I went there a few times only because it's so close and needed something quick. I have never had decent service. The cashiers are the rudest I have ever encountered. Today was the last straw. I went in to get a bread that I needed for a dinner I was cooking and they rude like always but when I got home I realized that the inside of the bread was molded and rotten. I'm frustrated and I'm not even sure I want to walk back into the store to complain when I know they are going to be rude anyway or just chalk it up as a loss. I will drive a few extra miles and/or pay a lot more to never have to walk in this place again. read more

Food City. We come here for the produce. Seriously, Eddie Basha set up food city to give economically struggling families a place to shop for less. His Basha stores were for the higher-end people-- less crowded aisles, etc. Food City is for the scrabbler, the tenatious, the bargain shopper, and also,-- let's face it, the person who needs a St Mary statue or donkey cart. So, if you're willing to elbow a little, to peel some apples, to eat the ends and pieces of butcher bacon that just can't be beat, come on Wednesday--early! That's when they have the smoking bargains on produce, even if you may have to wave away a little fruit fly or two. Not only that, but the spices are some of the cheapest prices you'll find anywhere. Expect to use your Spanish here, too, if you want to chat with the other shoppers. Want Coke? Forget it, that's not on sale here. One last tip--you can get on the email list for the weekly flyer. well, primarily we buy the produce , great prices! I like their meat prices too although I don't know all the meals they go with, I buy hatches green chili and the pork for my green chili stew and for my carnitas. I will become more adventurous and try some of the marinated meats with the red chili. I don't know why some say the staff is difficult, I've always found the nice. I suppose maybe cuz I'm friendly 1st, then they warm right up. read more

terrible service young lady working in deli NO HABLA ENGLISH tried to get a 1/2 pound of Carne Asada she said she couldn't sell me it that way so I said sell me a carne asada burrito with no tortilla couldn't figure that also older lady came and spoke semi English said they would do it, Great so I asked for 1/2 pound of carne Asada she gave me .32 less than a 1/3rd of a pound !!!!! come on how do hire someone that speaks no English that works at a store where people speak English shop at!!!
