I love this bigger Food City, it's bigger than the one on St. Mary's thats closer to me. If I'm cooking up a Mexican feast, this is where I come. I also come hungry because I love the fresh agua frescas, burros, Mexican soups, fresh tortillas, rice, and beans - its all delightful! Stinks of rotting meat and hits your senses the second you walk on. The "fresh" chicken is absolutely disgusting. It sits in the packages submerged in pink juice. Was clearly never drained. It you're looking for E. coli or salmonella, this is your destination. read more

I like coming here when I am in the mood to cook Mexican food. Their meat are less expensive compared to other stores. They also have good breads and pastries. But it seems like tue store is getting too old. They could really use a face lift. read more

Have been going to this store for years with no issues, today was different. We felt DISCRIMINATED for being a senior citizen. My husband and I went to get a few things. We went to the meat department and got some chicken, we saw a digital coupon for marinated chicken for $1.29, we figured we would try it since we had never used digital coupons at food city. The worker at the meat department said if you have issues with your digital coupon someone at the front will be glad to help you, wrong! The male cashier at the register told us we got the wrong thing, my husband told him there was a sign for that marinated chicken. My husband suggested they inform the person in the meat department about the information he was giving regarding the digital sale. The cashier continued saying I am not giving you this price for a family pack, we had 2 pounds we don't have a family pack. My husband told him to forget that purchase and the cashier continued to say that we were wrong and that we were not getting that price, all after my husband told him it's ok we won't take it. The conversation should have ended there, right? But it didn't, the cashier continued to argue about how we were wrong.. my husband already frustrated told the cashier to just shut the @&$) up. Not saying that was correct but he was already frustrated that the cashier kept giving him attitude and arguing over the same thing. If he would of said "I'm sorry you have the wrong item, we would of been ok and paid the price, but he didn't even call to check on it" He voided our transaction and called the manager, the manager a male with a long beard didn't even listened to our explanation and told my husband that he was too old to be talking like that, talk about feeling DISCRIMINATED for being older. So because you're older you're supposed to just get disrespected and have to take attitude from a cashier? what happened to customer service? Now we have 2 employees being rude. This is the closest Food City from my home. I don't particularly like it, although they have a great produce & Mexican section. The sales ads are great but run out of the sale items quick in the meat dept.. The store could use an update as it appears dingy however it's clean. However, the staff could be a little friendlier but it appears they are there to only to their job and not really be of service as we felt like we troubled the staff in locating some items as this store was new & recommended to us. read more

Back to the Deli since February. Before they didn't change their sanitary gloves. Now they can't or won't speak English to me. I said I don't speak Spanish. I even try to say it in Spanish... ​I have lived across the street from this store for 49 years. It has had a couple of different names in that time. But since it became Food City in has been the worst store! It is dirty. It is hard to find what I'm looking for. And the employees are the rudest, laziest people in tucson! Those women in the deli are so rude! They stand right in front of me and talk shit about me cuz they think that I don't speak Spanish. I know enough to recognize being called anything but the white girl that I am. Wo 't be going in that store again! I guess spending around $300 a week on groceries isn't enough to make them use any manners or be helpful or polite! They only got one star cuz I can't leave a review with 0 stars. Spend your money anywhere else! read more

Tucson has a lot of small carnicerias and shops to purchase delicious goodies like fresh tortillas, carne asada, candy, fresh baked goods, etc, so I personally go to the smaller shops to find the best quality in terms of those items. Food City is great finding great deals on produce and ingredients/spices for home cooked Mexican food. They really do carry a almost anything you'll need! There are various Food City stores in Tucson. This one is not particularly my favorite. It gets quite busy, the parking lot gets really full, making for a bit of stressful shopping experience with COVID19. They do have safety measures in place such as 6ft distancing markers on the floors and all employees wear masks. I did not see any other safety measures that are above and beyond, such as cart and basket disinfecting stations. read more

2 stars for effort... I guess. I ordered a cake for a kids birthday a month before the party. The day before the party someone from the Food City bakery calls to tell me the topper to the cake never came. They continue to tell me that I can have something written on the cake instead. That was their only solution to fix a $40 cake. So I requested to get my kids name thinking it was going to be something extravagant to make up for not ordering the topper with a month's notice. This is unsatisfactory to say the least! I used to refer a lot people to order cake from here, raving about how spectacular they come out out. I am no longer ordering cake or referring anyone. Long ago went here, expecting to be mugged or attacked in the parking lot. Nothing happened. There was a lot of staring at me , but the food prices were cheap, so I kept on coming back for 20 years. Never had a problem shopping, I've ate there many times, the foods always cheaper than the big three scam monopoly, stores frys, Safeway, Albertsons And everybody's generally helpful . Most of these locations are cheaper and a bit more rundown than Fry's and Safeway, but they aren't too bad. The selection at this location is pretty good, despite it being a smaller store than most. The deli section was very good, and the produce section had the cheapest prices out there. Best of all, is their variety of Hispanic foods, which are better than any of the other stores! It had been 10 years since I visited a Food City prior to this visit, and I came away blown away, since I used to hate coming here. I highly recommend giving them a second visit. read more

Had the worst experience in this store. Walked in and in moments Anna was rude to myself in front of my child. There was a spill that she was attending to and both walk ways were blocked so I asked if I could scoot around her and she told me to use the other way - that was also blocked! So I went past her successfully not even touching the mess at all!! I said excuse me and apologized as we went by. She mumbled something under her breath.. my son heard what she said and he became upset , he told me mom did you hear her she said "you're not sorry". I turned around and went back to her asked her her name , she told me Anna , I told her I was gonna let her manager know about her behavior because it was not appropriate and my son even heard her and she said "go ahead I dont care" I attempted to shop but felt so uncomfortable I decided to just leave. I found who I thought was the manager, but when I told him Anna was rude to me all he had to say was "well she is actually my manager" - that was it !. No surprise that this lady acts the way she did, she is in charge so no one to answer to- go figure. Pretty sad. I never go to food city, it's not my cup of tea- so this just really sucks that this was my first experience. read more

There is no cheaper place to buy produce in Tucson than at Food City. 5 avocados for $1. 3 pounds of onions for $1 (not 3 onions for $1, 3 POUNDS), the list of ridiculous deals goes on and on. I often buy enough veggies for two weeks thinking it's going to cost a fortune, and walk out paying $10. It's really hard to spend a lot here. And the produce is GOOD. The mangos, pears, limes, peppers, you-name-it, are abnormally large. I don't care why they're large, they are so delicious! I've also had fun trying new Mexican cheeses every time I go. The Mexican table cream is also to-die-for - more liquid than your typical sour cream, but so much more flavorful! One thing I haven't had great experiences with is the meat. We bought one of the family mix packs for barbecuing and it was all just OK. Same with the chicken breasts which were abnormally tough. So I'll probably pay a bit more to get meat elsewhere. I really love the chorizo though. Word of warning that sometimes there's only a couple of cashier lines open so expect to wait at check-out for a little while. During my limited time so far in Tucson, I've enjoyed using Food City as an excuse to try cooking with new ingredients and taking advantage of my surroundings. It's also just so cheap and I make special trips there just to buy produce and cheese. read more

I was on the hunt for reasonable and good tamale corn husks. My friend said to get them at Food City. She was right! I had not visited this store since perhaps a decade ago. I was favorably impressed with what I saw and experienced. The shopping center has been updated (it was pretty dated a while back) and inviting. I noticed that the produce looked well kept and fresh. Not knowing where to find the husks, I asked the first employee I encountered, an Hispanic produce man. He was super kind, walking me over to the huge display of all types of corn husks (a WHOLE DISPLAY just for husks!). He kindly pointed out the best quality and also the Food City brand sale (half the price), with just one sale bag left (waiting for ME!). We chatted briefly and he made me promise to bring one of my future tamale creations back to him for a taste test. The store is filled with Hispanic foods as well as the usual American store foods. I enjoyed looking around briefly. I have to remember to come here for some specialty items. At the check out area, I spotted a tray sporting freshly roasted green chiles. That was too much to pass up. What a treat! They roast them there. At $1.99/lb., I got a nice little baggie of roasted green chiles. AHHH (cost $2.15 for just over 1 lb. What a deal!). Those non-spicy chiles are great with eggs, sandwiches, and nearly every dish! I also checked out the deli for future reference. You can get an entire meal or dinner for the family here--Hispanic specialties like red or white menudo, posole, roasted chickens, tamales, etc. They also prepare breakfast burritos. Handy to know. Upon leaving, we spotted two employees roasting up pollo asada (roasted chickens) outside (in nearly 100 degree weather) on major-sized grilling contraptions. 2 for $10, all fresh and beautiful looking. I had a friendly quick chat with them. Good guys working there. I found everyone friendly and more than helpful. What a delightful community store experience! Some Food City's are great, just not this one. This one sucks! This is the worst Food City I've had the misfortune of entering.

The staff is very nice and helpful especially the ones at the restaurant section. Their food is pretty good too. I gave it a four because the Store needs more shopping carts. I highly suggest they get the quarter shopping carts like the ones at the 99 cent store and get new shopping carts. It's frustrating when you have to wait for a customer to finish using their shopping cart outside then come in and sanitize it. read more

I love Food City. It is by far the best place I have ever found to buy produce for the price. Just try to beat 5 lbs of onions for $0.99 or 3 lbs of green chiles for $1! They consistently run deals like this on different produce each week, but even their normal prices generally blow any other grocery store out of the water. The quality is usually good, but sometimes you have to dig around a bit. I'm still confused as to how they're able to make money selling things as cheaply as they do. Maybe it's because they import a good deal of their produce. The meat section usually is also running some good deal on chicken, steak, etc. With these deals, they usually limit the quantity you can buy, which isn't a problem for me. Most Food City locations I've visited around town don't have the polished, clean feel of a nicer grocery store like Albertsons, but that doesn't bother me with all the money I save. Plus, it's like getting a little taste of vacation in Mexico, which is fun. The benefits of shopping here for me greatly outweigh any cost (less-than-clean store, moderately impolite employees sometimes, etc.). I've noticed that the cashiers are usually pretty friendly while some of the other employees don't really go out of their way to make you feel welcome. This doesn't bother me either. In addition to produce and meat, I usually look for any deals on chips, soda, and tortillas. These items are generally pretty cheap also. To recap, I love Food City. read more
