I still managed to purchase groceries but was disappointed that I couldn't purchase and beer for my growler!. I left off two stars, here's why: 1. I don't recall anything on the company website stating they discontinued the alcohol and bar service. 2. Armed security guards walking around the store doesn't ease my mind, it makes me more weary of the fact that this store may not be the safest to shop at.

My wife and I have been ordering pickup through Instacart at this location for two years (picking…read moreup our own groceries, I am not an Instacart Shopper) and EVERY TIME, we wait for a long period of time and then have to go inside to track someone down to get our order. This happens on a weekly basis. And I learned yesterday that this happens because they prioritize Food Lion app orders over Instacart orders and treat Instacart customers like an inconvenience. After I had waited ten minutes without anyone collecting my groceries, they instantly brought an order out to someone who pulled up ten minutes after me. Yesterday was ridiculous. I waited for ten minutes because the Instacart app said that someone was gathering our groceries. I was the only car waiting until about the ten minute mark when another car arrived. I went inside to ask the Food Lion To Go employee how much longer it would be, and she said she was grabbing my order. I went and shopped for an item that I left off my order and then circled back around to the To Go area where I saw they had a cart full, which I thought was surely mine, so I went back out to my car. It wasn't my order. They rolled the cart out to the lady who had pulled up ten minutes after me! When I asked how she got her order before I did when I had been waiting ten minutes longer, the employee said "it doesn't work that way, you two ordered from different apps." How does that matter? I went back inside to make sure that my order was being worked and got an attitude from the attendant for being irritated by this ridiculously poor experience. So I guess what I learned is that if you want your order to be treated with urgency, you must use the Food Lion app. I don't use the Food Lion app because they charge a fee per order. It is less expensive to use Instacart+ at $100 a year than pay Food Lion's per order fee for the weekly orders I place. And I can use Instacart at many other stores. And that is exactly what I will do. Take my business to a store that doesn't treat me like an inconvenience.

Produce looks fresh and amazing, all other products are displayed in an attractive fashion. I am able to find a few items I like that are not available at a lot of other locations in the chain. The store is very clean and organized and the staff seems well trained. Even the shopping carts are in good repair and operate smoothly. Employees are polite, professional and helpful. At some local supermarkets, employees seem to just be going through the motions but that is not the case at this Pembroke Meadows location. Employees here seem to enjoy their jobs and place importance on providing a satisfying shopping experience to their customers. I don't get out this way too often but I have visited this store a few times over the past year. Grocery shopping is not generally one of my favorite activities but the experience at this Food Lion location is always pleasant.

I was thrilled to see the TJ's sample station offering their graham cracker squares topped with their whipped carrot cake cream cheese! Uh, yes, please! I mean, who doesn't like a sample? Needless to say, I picked up a container of the whipped carrot cake cream cheese. Then, after moving away to continue shopping, I decided to turn right back around to grab another container! The nice young lady serving the samples smiled at me and told me she completely understood why I grabbed another container. Lol TJ's is always so clean and the staff is always so friendly at this location. I like finding new items every visit, and I picked up lots of sweet treats for the holiday. My cashier, Melissa commented on the additional (3) reusable regional shopping bags I had in my cart. Hilltop had the bag for North Carolina! Yay! I was disappointed. They were stale. Thankfully, I only purchased $3.30 worth of nuts at $9.99 a pound. I purchased nuts from the dispensaries in the past and they were great.

I brushed that off, but things escalated when two other women approached. I had my dog (a well-trained miniature Goldendoodle) calmly restrained next to me. I gave him simple, quiet commands -- "sit, stay, treat" -- which he followed perfectly. I trained him myself during COVID-19 pandemic, and he responds well to calm, consistent cues. Ms. Stacey then commented, "mom has eyes in the back of her head... you can tell she's been in here a lot because she knows the exact words to say -- I would just change her voice though." Commenting on my tone toward my own dog -- especially when I was being calm, controlled, and respectful in a public space -- was unnecessary and inappropriate. It was early in the morning, and there was nothing wrong with how I handled my pet. I chose not to respond in the moment and remained respectful, but this pattern of behavior is disappointing. I come here often and expect to feel comfortable, not critiqued. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as I would like to continue shopping here -- but with a more respectful and positive experience moving forward.
