I have to say, i have stopped in here a couple of times and ALL of the staff members that work here are so friendly and genuine. It's sometimes hard to find people this nice in a big city that works at a local corner store, but this is a true gem in Uptown. I absolutely loved the quesadillas here and they were all I had When the pandemic broke out. I accidentally ordered enough for eight people , for myself somehow and it was the best thing. I don't think they make them here anymore but if they do again, I'm gonna have a weeks worth to celebrate. I just love Food Town! We live just down the street so my husband are in here several times most weeks. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and really make this area feel like more of a neighborhood. There's a great selection including some unique specialty drinks and snacks, and prices are fair. read more

Well kept and well stocked convenient store. It's pretty great. Convenient location to our apartment, and walking distance from the busier parts of Uptown. Basically the only bodega/convenient store/deli nearby. I mean, there is the place attached to the Sheridan Red Line stop, but comparing that to Food Town is like....I don't know what it's like because that store is cramped and meh. It's pretty large as far as these things go, with coolers stretching around the entire back of the store. Friendly staff working behind the counter. Store is really clean and well lit, and somehow there don't ever seem to be any shady types hanging out in front or inside. Like a previous reviewer said, they run a tight ship. This place is a pretty standard neighborhood corner convenience store. No frills, no thrills. They have some major competition with a Jewel right across the street! I would think this place would want to stay open earlier in the morning and late in the evening when Jewel is closed, but they keep somewhat odd hours and are usually closed by 8pm. Based on this, you may be asking "then why three stars, Adam?". Well this place appears to be family-run and everyone that works there is friendly and pleasant to their customers. There's one attendant in particular who is very easy on the eyes and keeps me coming back instead of walking a little further to Jewel. Check him...errr, this store out sometime. read more

I really like this place. Sometimes I'm too tired or sick to actually cross the street and try to tackle the lines in Jewel. They have 6 packs of soda for 2.99, they cigs are not overpriced, and they usually cover the tax on their items. This is a big deal for a Chicago store, if you know what the taxes end up being. Anyway, they're always really nice, they seem to be family run, and they are very very convenient. I know the hours are not that great, but when trying to avoid Jewel during dinner time, it's a great alternative. shopper tip: check the back freezer. look hard and dig. My mistake - try the homemade hummus the best I've ever had (I've traveled extensively and I love to eat ) the owners wife makes it and other delicacies daily, What made me finally write a review? I'm always pleasantly surprised when I walk into Food Town, which is more often than you'd think since it's nowhere near my apartment. But since I play softball down the street and a good friend lives across the street, I find myself all up in Food Town. A lot. Most convenience stores are pretty boring. Yeah, you can grab a diet Coke and a pack of Parliament Lights, but there's really nothing else to offer but dusty packages of no-brand cookies and a questionable freezer section. Food Town is SO different. It's huge. It's well stocked with an impressive variety of beverages, snacks and pantry items. It's well-lit. It's clean. The people are really nice. I mean... honestly. This place is great! Confession: I may or may not have purchased a lighter that's literally the size of a toddler's arm for $4 at Food Town on a whim (and possibly after a few adult beverages). I get nothing but compliments on how awesome it is. So if you've seen it, now you know where I got it. read more

I use to live around the corner (4250 N Marine) and me and my ex-girlfriend would stop in here almost daily. It was a great store before they renovated it and it is a great store now (I'm sure of this!). When we left the area, I would stop by on my way to the lakefront trail just to say hi and buy an energy drink from them. The owners are wonderful people and hope business is doing great. I moved away from Chicago but plan on moving back around April of 2017. Not sure if you guys would remember me but I do plan on stopping by either way. Loved this place! read more

They just got done remodeling this place and I was very surprised to see it. There is a new coffee bar and a deli counter. They have pre-made foods at the moment, but plan on getting a deli person this summer to go with their new outside patio. I had a bad impression about this place because it looked like a typical liquor store from the outside, but it's really nice. read more

Good, honest, family owned small business. Never a single problem in over 13 years of living in the neighborhood. Homemade falafel, veggie wraps, spinach pitas, and (very good) hummus, not to mention pizza puffs, hot dogs, fruit cups, etc. It's a good place if you're in a hurry to work and need to eat something that doesn't take long before the bus comes. If they were able to carry enough decent produce for me to make salads that aren't tacky, I would figure out a way to only shop there. The younger employees leave little inspirational messages on post it notes underneath the glass on the counter. As the neighborhood develops and the neighborhood continues to lose its character, I will continually be grateful for this place. It is clean, well lit, and friendly. read more

Great store. If you ask for white cheddar popcorn enough times, they'll stock it for you. Only downfall is they are a bit hypocritical as they will sell bacon, or a ham/cheese frozen pocket, but will not sell regular ham like Oscar Mayer and such. I don't want the ham/cheese hot pocket. I want to buy ham, bring it home and make a sandwich...is that so wrong...lol... read more

I've lived in Uptown for a few years now, and last week was the first time I have gone to Food Town. I'm within walking distance of a couple of grocery stores, but I always have to walk past Food Town to get to them. I have never considered going into the place because it looks kind of old and creepy from the outside. The sign is so unwelcoming that I would rather walk a little further and go to a familiar place, like Jewel. I have asked to a few people in my apartment about Food Town, and none of them had gone there because of the same reasons I avoided it. They, too, would go a little out of their way to avoid shopping there. But last weekend I needed something and I was in a rush and had no time to take the longer walk, so I took my chances and went into Food Town. And I have to say, I was shocked at what the inside of the store was like. The store is so clean, neat, organized, and modern. They have great products at great prices, and it's obvious they spent a lot of time and money making the store look great. I couldn't believe how much different the store was than I thought it would be! The outside looks so dark and unwelcoming (the neon sign is awful) but the inside is beautiful! And not to mention the workers are wonderful. There was a some serious eye candy working behind the counter. Ladies (and some gentlemen) keep your eyes open for the stud in the black glasses. He was the sweetest person, too! I was definitely pleasantly surprised by the experience, and I can't believe I've been avoiding this gem for so long! So basically, if you can get past the old school outside and the creepy giant sign, the store will not disappoint. You'll be back just like I will be! read more
