A great place for specialty and hard to find items. It also is a co-op so it supports the community unlike big stores. The Dill Pickle has many interesting things. Lots of healthier and specialty things for certain diets. You can find many items made by local artisans and farmers. It has many items that aren't found it common grocers. Such a large amount of organic items. The prices vary. Many items are pretty expensive. The organics especially among these. Local items are a key attraction. They have so many and it's a great way to become familiar with all these. Gluten free items and other diets are represented and you can find something acceptable. There's also tons of vegan choices like not only food but also household items. Buying here benefits the area because it also supports many other businesses. It helps you learn about these and what they can offer. The prices may be high on certain things but most are pretty fair though.

So I'm obsessed with this sushi. It tastes so fresh. I can't believe how good this sushi is, it really blew me away. I got this sushi three days in a row. And I always get so much as there so many different flavors to try and they are all so so good. This is my favorite sushi I have ever had and I'm not the only who thinks so. My friend tried it and she was also surprised at how amazing this grocery store sushi was. The only down side is that it is a bit expensive, but for taste and freshness it's worth it. And it's always friendly and really kind service and this place.

It was pretty easy to social distance. There weren't too many people in there. It would've been nice to have an employee by the entrance enforcing masks, social distancing, and doing a head count like other places are. I appreciated that they tell guests alternative face coverings that are acceptable in the event they don't have a face mask. There was no hand sanitizer upon entry which would've been more reassuring safety is a priority here. They have curbside pickup available for those that want that too. You just don't see enough of that available at different businesses. Kudos!

Plenty of unique, LOCAL, quality, good-for-you products. Cheaper than Amazon -- COCONUT VINEGAR is cheaper by $3. BACH flower essences. Better than Amazon -- I haven't seen a display of CBD OIL since Barcelona's Hemp Museum. Amazon only sells Hemp. *yowzer!* Better than Whole Foods/Amazon + Mariano's -- $0.99 organic ramen, selections of RISHI tea in bulk, Chicago's exciting la di da coffee (Dark Matter, Metropolis, Abacus + new brands) in bulk, artisan KOMBUCHA on tap! ELLIS FAMILY FARM HONEY from Michigan on tap (has a spout) or bulk? *yeah!* CHICAGO LOCAL -- RED HEN's pretzel bun, WEST TOWN's Baquette, Chicago Co-Op Honey, CENTRAL PICKLING's organic hot giardiniera with only 243 mg of sodium. Gluten-Free $8.99 Pizza. GERMAN CHAMOMILE, huh? 2 sections of bulk ORGANIC HERBS that you can easily make your own potions. *double double toil and trouble* Drugstores have discontinued ACTIVATED CHARCOAL on their product list. 2+ options here. CUSTOMER SERVICE -- the only one to answer the phone and set aside products for you?!? Caring CASHIER took the time to check ALL lids are closed and never opened that she noticed I took a tester (oops, :-o). Meticulous bagging. 1-Star less as there is a problem with product restocking, bulk counter cleanliness/orderliness and obliviousness when empty.

They really do have organic everything.

It is within walking distance, which is a plus, though I do watch the prices and go to Mariano's or Jewel when they offer more for less. EVERYONE at the meat/cheese counter is great, and friendly. They really do know their stuff, though at times, I wish they had a ticketed numbered system. It would prevent me from going off on some of the older Eastern Euro clientele when they try to butt in line. NOT happening! The cashiers are efficient, though there is a tall male one that is new to me. Feels like his name should be Draco. Would almost pass for AI, due to his height an personality, though AI can be programmed to be charming and efficient. He literally saw me put down items on the belt and looked like he was confused as to what his role was, then asked me if I wanted a bag for all my purchases, despite it being obvious that I had none with me. I had to get snippy, because, well, I had to get snippy. Oprah did mention them in one of her shows, so they got "trendy" afterwards, but as other reviewers have said, they do carry items that you would find more at a Treasure Island than a Jewel, Aldi, or Mariano's. They are good for that. Now, if they would only work on their AI cashiers and make them more personable, then I would give them a five star rating. Especially since peeps in the hood voted down Amazon from taking over and planting seeds on the corner of Western and Lawrence, to take over the grocery store market.

It's a pretty standard small grocery store, with a few things that may be hard to find elsewhere. They have some international brands, although the Mexican grocery store farther west on Lawrence (Lindo Michigan) is a better bet for Central American things. They sell some local brands, including freshly-roasted coffee from Brü Coffeeworks, also on Lawrence. Prices are a smidge higher than you might find elsewhere, but at least they're consistent and don't require you to download an app or join a frequent shopper club or whatever. I do wish they would stay open a little later. The staff are helpful, and they have a good selection of spices and seasonings. I wasn't able to find caraway seed elsewhere, for some reason, but when I asked a staff member if they had any, he immediately took me to the exact spot on the shelf where they had it in two different container sizes.

It feels like a place to shop if you want to virtue signal. I wanted to look into more sustainable options and decrease the amount of plastic I consume via containers. I had gotten a few things (bar shampoo, toothpaste pellets, etc) online at the Zero Waste store, but prefer to keep it local whenever I can. When I heard about E.F. I decided to check it out, but was surprised at the prices, which are astronomical for what you get. I expected bulk pricing and BYO containers to result in better pricing, but was mistaken. In spite of the cost, I gave a couple products a try thinking perhaps the quality would be superior quality, and walked away with a small lotion stick that was $20 and has a weird smell, and some bulk lotion (orange blossom, I think) that smells good but wasn't very moisturizing and cost $13 for maybe about a cup worth. According to my kitchen scale, about 5 oz. Only a select few people are going to be able to lotion up through a Chicago winter for $2 an ounce when you could double the amount with a store brand. Good on you if you can extract some wealth from the people who have too much, but this is just not a store for everyone. I found some other small businesses and switched to bar soap and lotion to avoid buying more plastic, and there are a couple online options for cleaning products and such.

The closest grocery stores are Cermak Produce, some corner stores, and a Family Dollar. FoodSmart is clearly catering to the hipsters slowly moving west and south from Wicker Park and Logan Square, respectively. There's definitely a huge selection of food and liquor here for everyone, but they specialize in fresh organic food with a lot of vegetarian and vegan selections. Yay! There's a lot crammed in here, so take your time looking around. My favorite part of the store is their fresh food since they have veggies, fruits, and pre-prepared meals that have very few preservatives. Yasss! Prices are typical for the brands and quality of foods that they carry, which is great on this lonely stretch of Armitage. Liquor section is huge and there's tastings available if you want to try something. They also have a new-ish food counter where you can buy hot food and drinks while you relax in the store.
