Came in with babygirl yesterday to get a few things for today's dinner. We went to get some produce and the gentlemen that was restocking the produce just kept staring at me like a pervert. It made me so uncomfortable, I grabbed my daughter to rush to get the produce we needed. I was on the phone telling my husband loudly for this idiot to hear how he was being a pervert and he did not seem to care. This is not my regular Food 4 Less, but I was in a hurry as we had just left Sam's Club that was down the street. I did not have time to complain as we had to do another stop, but I will be calling the store. No one should go out especially a mother and daughter and ever feel like that. It made the visit so uncomfortable, I will not be returning to this store. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because the store was clean and my cashier was so nice. Other than that, I will not be returning nor putting myself through this uncomfortable situation again. read more

Note: As you enter the store, there is usually a heavily armed security guard dressed all in black. The store itself is big and clean for the most part. The cashiers can be a hit or a miss. The store seems a bit understaffed I would say, because I rarely see workers restocking shelves. Homeless is rampant in the parking lot and in front of the store, so just be aware. Let me start by saying shopping etiquette does not exist at this Food 4 Less. Customers have no situational awareness and no sense of time and space when they shop here. People often park their carts in the middle of the aisle while they go look at something on the opposite shelf. And they literally do not have the courtesy to move their carts out of the way for you, even though they clearly see you trying to come down the aisle. Not only that, but I often see full shopping carts left unattended in the middle of aisles. The customer who originally left their cart there is nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, their shopping cart is just sitting there blocking a good part of the walkway. Might I also add that these shopping carts are huge, bulky, heavy and some times hard to maneuver; they are not the small CVS or Walgreens type of shopping carts. Besides all that, I have also witnessed people not putting back unwanted items where they belong, especially items that are perishable such as meat. It is wild. As for the parking lot, I always see shopping carts just scattered all over the place. They are left on top of dirt, grass, curbs, or in the middle of the roadway. I have seen plenty of people just leave their carts in the middle of a parking spot, when there's a corral less than 3 feet away. I lost count on how many times I have had to get out of my car to move a shopping cart so I can park in a spot. They really need to hire someone to collect the carts. But I'm guessing because this store is located in a predominantly low-income neighborhood, the type of customers who shop there don't really give a s**t.... read more

After a while, I noticed I'd rather go to other grocery store than food 4 less. I notice for the most part everything here cost $5 or $5.50 and the brands and/or products are not competitive. I could find a wider selection of items at Ralph's . I've spend at most $130 here and was not happy with the selections I was limted with. I purchased a bag of Fritos for $5, cheese that's in the chips aisle for $5 and the can of chilli was $3. The lowest u can find for other things is often $3. Frozen meals are $5 but I can find better brands at different grocery stores. The lines can get long and the reusable bags have no handles and they didn't have any reusable decorated bags for sale . This store is not of value . I see it as a liquor store or a big cvs basically in terms of pricing. read more

Unfortunately I came in to shop and when I was getting cashed out the Manager on duty damien said that he couldn't give me the item at the price labeled as that whatever it scanned as that was it . Serves the cities of La Palma, Hawaiian Gardens and parts of Lakewood and Cerritos Seasonal sales for many times, today it was corned beef brisket since it's Saint Patrick's day weekend!! Prepackaged slabs priced from $12 upwards. Good selection of organic and regular produce, I got a 32 ounce container of ripe strawberries for $3.99. Bagged white Onions, brown onions, Yukon and Idaho potatoes, green kale, salad and Roma tomatoes, avocados, herbs like roasted and parsley : everything Bea's well stocked and looking very fresh. Chicken legs and thighs were similarly on sale $1.79 per pound. I pick the smaller sized thighs for better portions. I always get the 3 pound chub of 80/20 hamburger meat, then separate them to one pound portions. The Kroger house brand cleaning supplies work as well as the brand name bleaches, sanitizing wipes and toilet cleaner. Also good buys on Colgate toothpaste$1.25 each for 4ounce tubes. My guilty purchase is snacks and today I got the Tex-Mex snack mix of peanuts and Japanese rice crackers. Cashiers are often very busy here, but I lucked out and did not have to be in line for too long, I was the second one of three in line. I remembered to bring in my reusable bags today! read more

This past weekend I ordered a sandwich platter from the deli/bakery section. All the workers, specifically Rosie, went above and beyond to assist me. She called me to confirm my order and worked with me even though she was off the clock! Not many people have that level of work-ethic these days. The deli supervisor wished me a wonderful day and made sure my order was more than suited for the celebration it was prepared for! I'm definitely ordering food from this deli in the future! read more

I give them one star because I have to all of the fruit and vegetables are rotten. The employees are socializing instead of doing their work and the Hispanic employees are marking things down like boxes of bowls that has a little dent $20 bowls for five dollars for themselves which means she's gonna get it for two dollars with her employee discount. My review is based primarily on the bakery/cake section. I asked for a custom cake for my sister's birthday. The photo I showed was not what I got. (The photo I showed is in fact a cake they have made before) I do want to give them the benefit of the doubt because I always order cakes here, this time though it was a disaster..I also noticed the people working aren't the same that used to be there so maybe the new hires are the ones to blame. Regardless..they screwed up my sister's birthday cake pretty terribly. The photo of the cake infront of my fireplace was a cake they made a year ago versus the white one I picked up this past week. Love this Food 4 less location. I shopped here alot when i lived in Cypress and Los Alimitos a few years ago. Now i cant come here as much because it is quite a ways from Fountain Valley. Store is not in one of the best neighborhoods. But i still shop here when in the area. They have a good organized produce area and fresh cooked deli area. I'm surprised by all the negative reviews. I came here to give a shout out to Kevin. I shop at times when it isn't as busy so maybe this is why my experience is different but I enjoy shopping here. Other than the small Hispanic groceries, Hawaiian Gardens is a grocery desert. Walmart Neighborhood market closed up shop awhile ago, so Food 4 Less is the sole American big box grocery in the city. Being one of those places where customers bag their own groceries, prices can be a little cheaper than the competition. I usually come here to stock up on Zulka unrefined, non-GMO 4lb sugar when it's on sale. I prefer using this sugar when I make my monthly batch of kombucha. Ideally, I'd prefer coconut sugar, but Zulka is a lot cheaper & I've been satisfied with it, thus far. In the produce section, sweet potatoes often go on sale & I stock up on them to bake in the oven. Sweet potatoes are a low GI food, containing a number of nutrients beneficial to health. I mash a sweet potato, add almond/coconut milk as lightener, some ghee or virgin coconut oil, a few sprinkles of moringa powder I made & sometimes some chia. Filling & sustaining meal to be had there. A small clearance section in the meat department has me perusing through wrapped Styrofoam trays to see if I found what's for dinner. Of course, I always check the sell by date, as food illness is no bueno. Most of the inventory caters to the Hispanic community, based on the area the grocery is located. Bulk-sized quantities are available, for those looking to stock up on products. I'm not a Costco/Sam's Club member, as I don't feel the membership dues validate shopping at those places, but I am a proponent of saving money when I can. Service has been okay the many times I've shopped here. A few 15 items or less lanes are on the left side of the registers. Parking is in a private lot. Food 4 Less is a respectable grocer for one such as myself. Prices are reasonable and I get a good deal on some items I have on rotation. I much rather go here than overpriced Albertson's any day. My grandma can't walk well and needs the electric wheelchair that the Food4Less provides. The manager Roger told us that's she needs to come inside the store first and we can't bring the electric wheelchair to the parking lot. But how do i bring my grandma inside to go shopping if she can't walk to the store? The manager refused to make reasonable accommodations for a disabled individual. Matthew was fabulous! He was the best person ever whom helped with Me and my inability to orient myself in the amazingly huge Food 4 Less! Haylee stopped me from having a total loss and wondering Distressful experience and turned it into a quest to gather my groceries. Matthew also knew where everything was in its tire store. Which I believe is separate from what his job was supposed to be, he knows the store front and back and he was able to tell me whether things are in stock or not. He is the reason why I was able to quickly gather exactly what I needed. Before I could even get to the aisle, he show up with that item in hand meeting me halfway down another aisle... His customer service impressed me so much that I just had to radio view and take my photo of check in at is he said he would be happy to do with me of him and I Had he bot helped, he would not have made my visit one to remember nor one to make me come back. Matthew, the young gentleman, was a very kind and was. exceptional with his customer service oriented and extremely knowledgeable of products and company ( Knowing which company owns northern California versus which company owns seven California Food 4 Less) That note, at the cashier YESINIA I also knew the answer to my question as to why the differences are so apparent in In Northern California and Southern California glasses. If you haven't been in either or compared both Then you would probably not understand but there is a striking difference to you or just the way they are set up and the types of items offered. Both having benefits and pitfalls, but I was very impressed by both of these employees ability to know the differences in the answer to the question which I already knew, separate owners to the entities per northern and southern Cali stores. YENISIA was very friendly whilst I was in the store and she answered all of my questions regarding things out of stock, where things could be as well as a very friendly person in general. She was absolutely a customer service oriented person and always had a smile on her face. So thank you YESINIA for being such a wonderful example of what customer service is and should be for all people in the service industry as well as for all customers looking for the perfect person to ask a question to you :-) Also wanted to mention the security guard Ronnie M! We kind gentleman! Walk to my car and we had a lovely conversation and figure it out we had something in common, at Heritage :-) any cultural one. They leave their shopping carts all over my street and refuse to spend the money to stop it. Beware of parking scams and scandals in the parking lot. There are derelicts that hangout. The manager of the store said that SHE could not do anything. I suggested that she the manager reach out to the la county sheriff, the manager said they don't come out. Well she was LYING. Because if they are a contracted service and food for less is charging tax they can come out ( the sheriffs). Food for less needs to REPRIMAND this manager and make her listen to the customers who are alerting them to problems with in their BUSINESS structure. If not doing their job then food for less should close their doors OR bring a responsible manager TO TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS AND CLEAN THIS MATTER UP! This is totally unacceptable! read more

Depending on your expectations for certain products, this grocery store can be amazing or a let-down. The low prices are worth it if you make smart decisions regarding which products to buy. + The produce section for in-season items is good, otherwise it's a hit-or-miss - It's super annoying to purchase alcohol that's locked because you have to wait in line and have the whole checkout line wait as the cashier walks away to get your product + The staff is friendly and helpful if you ask - Do not purchase bakery items here, even if it's an impulse buy..you'll be greatly disappointed Tip: Check expiration dates on your products before placing them in your cart at this location. read more

I've been around hawaiian gardens for about 14 yrs now. FOOD 4 LESS has always been the grocery store if choice for my family and I. With low prices and great selection. Only issue is you bag your own food. I guess it's ok as long as you don't pay those rediculess prices like at von or stater brothers. Always clean in and the associates are always willing to help. Now FOOD 4 LESS also has expanded and opened a bigger organic selection and a bigger Hispanic selection. Just make sure to shop on TUESDAYS as that's when everything goes on sale. I gave this FOOD 4 LESS 4 stars because the outside is always filthy and you have to bag your own stuff. Before I forget remember to take your own bags as they do charge for them now. read more

Last resort shopping - Pork country style ribs $1.29 a pound -- blowing my budget this month on crap I don't need - this should be a priceless lesson - to me and to you. While this is a step up from "Walmart used diapers in the parking lot & shopping carts & restroom floor" dankness, they could use a light or two in the parking lot. The plus side - you get to pack your own groceries so your bread does not end up under the canned soups, the down side: I always feel like leaving that message to friends and family - like you would before going on an internet date, so that if you do come up missing, they know where you were last. read more

While the employees don't always have the best attitudes and the people who shop here are kinda scary, I continue to shop at Food 4 Less because everything here is so cheap. My boyfriend is a firm believer in Walmart and their "competitive pricing," but when it comes to food, Food 4 Less dominates. I got a pack of lean bottom round cut steak for $4-5. A pack comes with 4 steaks, so you know you're getting a good deal. Chicken here is ridiculously cheap. The only thing I wouldn't buy is their packaged "lean ground beef." It says it's lean, but it really isn't. If you look at the back, you'll see that it's 20% fat and 80% lean meat. Not very healthy at all. The fruits and vegetables here are so cheap! Terrible grocery store! I have tried and tried again to give this grocery store a chance after multiple bad experiences, because it is my closest grocery store. But this will be my last time going there. I ordered a cake for my mother's birthday that I specifically told the man who took my order to say "Happy Birthday Grandma" with LIGHT purple roses. When I got the cake it said "Happy Birthday Gradma" and had dark purple icing. I was upset but understood that mistakes happen, again. When I asked to speak to management to maybe get a couple dollars taken off the price, I was told "I can't do that, would you like to go back to the bakery." I replied with no, never mind. If she was the manager why would she have to go back to the bakery and ask an employee. I don't blame anyone but the management for this experience. I generally Love this store.. Im here today, 7-16, 1:45pm and its at least 85° and they have a short lady, maybe no more than 5ft and at least 55-60 WORKING CARTS OUTSIDE!! MANAGEMENT PLEASE CORRECT THIS ATROCITY!! Broke my heart to see someone that small size and age trying to haul 10-15carts back to the store. read more

I only come here because it's convenient to grab several things at once. In particular, soda and booze. They actually have some good deals on their soda sometimes. But getting booze is a different story. Grabbing beer here is easy except their selection of "craft beer" is kind of limited. Grabbing liquor is much more difficult. I understand that most shops will lock their higher end liquor behind their glass cabinets, but this location locks ALL of their liquor behind the glass. Even the cheap bottom shelf liquor. In order to get them, you will have to line up at the register and ask the cashier to step away from their register and unlock the glass to grab you a bottle while you wait there. Which isn't too big of a problem, but they don't particularly seem too happy to be working there in the first place. The only upside is that they are open relatively late for a market. Pro-tip: I recommend coming here only if you need to grab something and it's late. Otherwise, I'm sure there's better places to shop nearby. read more

This Food 4Less is not the best one I have been too, but it is on the way home so every now and then I stop and then as I am checking out, I remember why I don't like coming to this one. It smells...seriously, it almost smells of spoiled food. The produce section is questionable on some items and make sure you check the dates on perishables, because I have checked and they are past their expiration date by at least a few days. Rotation doesn't seem to be their strong point. read more

This store is awful. Perhaps the traffic is too high for the amount of staff on duty. I live around the corner so unfortunately I frequent this location often. EVERY time I come to this store there is AT LEAST one person walking around with no mask on. The security guard sees them walking in and says nothing. Not sure why he's there if that's the case. As far as food for less groceries go this one is on the cleaner side, and usually has a parking available. it's also open late.

We do majority of our shopping at this location. The staff there are all great. There is always good deals in the store. This store has some items we use that the other locations don't have so saves me a double trip. The other day I dropped my wallet and the cashier Marisol noticed and I got lucky she did because I had my passport in there. read more
