My experience at WinCo today was met with a sour note. I tried a free sample, came back to return the bag that I was originally going to purchase, and then explained it was because I wanted another option. They kindly told me which aisle the other options were, but they also asked me to bring back the product they ran out for samples for. I expressed I was personally in a rush because my party was at check out, also on a schedule. I couldn't find it, so I told them and they asked for me to stay put to man the station while they went to grab it. I see a few problems with this approach. Firstly, it puts a lot of pressure on me, a customer, to bring back the right product. WinCo is big and I couldn't find the product. Secondly, they should have had an employee be back up to look after the station, and not a customer that was wanting to leave. This is also a lesson learned for myself because I personally should have said "no" to the asks to begin with. In terms of groceries, I was impressed by the variety. However, I wouldn't say it's the best priced as most items are by the pound. Some items are obvious good deals, like 25lb of carrots for $11 and $0.33 per ear of sweet corn. The interior is simple with no theatrics. A huge variety of products on display. However, if you're looking for a specific product, that's difficult as evident from my experience. Lastly, they have a Pokémon Center vending machine. I purchased a few available packs but my last pack was never dropped down. WinCo doesn't manage the machine as its third party, so I had to call the number on the machine for a refund. It was inconvenient to say the least. I first discovered Winco when I was visiting the Inland Empire, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there is one close to home! I come here solely for their fresh ground peanut butter. This peanut butter is a steal, tastes delicious, and does not have any additives (e.g., sugars or oils). Their bulk bin section is fun to peruse and reminds me of the one at Sprouts except that this one is actually affordable. Came here recently to pick up some ingredients...and I forgot why I stopped coming here because it's so amazing??? Why did I stop??? I think because I typically get all my groceries via Costco, Aldi's, Target, 99 Ranch, etc. But Winco is pretty freaking amazing. They have a great variety of pretty much everything. At great prices! There always seems to be a lot of cars, but still enough parking. Lines for checkout can get long, but also move fast. I think the only real drawback is I don't think they take credit card? We enjoy shopping at Winco for our weekly groceries, we shop from fruits to fresh meats. Winco does not mail out any ads or sales paper as they have their prices listed in person and their sales alternate each week. We have found better pricing at Winco for certain foods than other grocery stores. Some days are busier than others and the service to check out may be a bit slow but other days it goes by fairly quickly to check out. We enjoy getting our seafood a meats from their deli section, they also have tasty fried and grilled chicken. The chicken family combos are a great deal you can't beat it! This place should tally all my receipts and send a thank you note to Walmart's corporate office. When Walmart where I lived was open 24 hrs.... I did nearly 100% of my shopping there because I could shop off peak. Now, ai have my grocery store again and it is called Winco. A bit of a drive for me, but if I choose my battles wisely, which I do, the traffic is nearly non-existent. The produce department is my big draw ... well, outside of the regulars, like milk, bread, eggs, butter and glance through the seasonal items. Checking out can be slow if you are there during the dinner or even post-dinner rush, but outside of that I would say that the parking lot might be sketchy for some, but I haven't had a problem. Affordable and for the cost conscious shopper. The only down side is the number of cash registers open when there are a lot of customers. I guess the limited labor is the offset to their low prices. Prices are reasonable. Store is always clean and I don't recall ever smelling rotting meat or blood in the meat section. Fresh guacamole, pico de gallo, and salsa's are second to known. We love the fresh tamales, and fried chicken is excellent. For some reason, their sliced breads seem to be consistently fresher than most other markets that I frequent. Love the fact that they also offer loose grains, candies, and other such items by weight. They have two dedicated express lanes with a single line, where the customer at the front of the line is called to the next available cashier, which I believe is fairer and more equitable to all waiting customers, unlike some other stores that have separate express lines. They have a great seafood selection here. From snow crab legs, king crab, to Dungeness crab. It is the freshest as well and you could tell it's good quality. The price for the king crab legs range from $50-$60. The snow crab range is from $15-$18 and the dungeon crab ranges from $25-$28. Ok so over the years when I stop in I find lil products here worth purchasing but some stuff is sooooo low quality and not worth spending your money on. As a matter of fact the security got really bad as of lately as I see loss prevention being super petty with people in public. I noticed how big stores like this take advantage of people and don't give back what so ever. Not only that, they shut down their self check out area big red flag! I have been coming to this WinCo for years now and it's my favorite grocery store. It reminds me of a mini Costco lol. I know where everything is by now so that helps when I have a long grocery list. The workers are friendly and really helpful when I've needed it. I like that prices are lower compared with other grocery stores in the area. I love the bulk foods area that has spices, nuts, candies area where you can dispense exactly as much as you need, and pay by weight. I would love though if their produce of fruits and vegetables were of better quality. It's not always consistent in having fruits and veggies that aren't already starting to get moldy . For checkout I do wish there were more cashiers at all times. The staff is good about trying to be as fast as they can and scanning items. But often lines can be long and self checkout is only 15 items or less so that's not always an option. I don't mind them not taking credit cards so definitely having debit or cash is a must! The restrooms are clean and there's plenty of carts available when needed. My routine is to come on Sundays to shop for the week and it's pretty busy. The least busy time I've seen is Saturday evenings. read more

Their prices have just SHOT UP recently, so I can't really justify or recommend going unless it's in your way. What staff there was were nice at this one, but not very interested. I can't believe it took me this long to know about Winco Foods. To be fair, there are so few Winco I'm California that I only knew about it when I was driving by and happened to notice it. This place is huge and has EVERYTHING you need and more from a grocery store. I was blown away by everything here. Winco carries multiple brands for a single item. For example, there were six different brands of syrups for hotcakes. Winco also have some products under their own branding, but for the most part, you'll find most big box store brands here. I was super impressed to discover new brand products I've never seen before. I've been searching for Pappy's Choice seasoning and couldn't find it anywhere, but Winco for the win because they had it all! This place is not only huge, but very clean and organized! I was very impressed with their bulk section. I have never seen pasta sold by the bulk! It was very inexpensive too! I was even more impressed with their self-serve, freshly ground nut butter! I've only seen freshly ground peanut butter at Whole Foods, and you have to order it at the counter and pay a lot of money for it. Not here, the prices are so cheap as they go by the price of the type of nuts per pound! You can literally get a pound of freshly ground peanut butter for under $2! Seriously, there is SO much that this Winco has to offer, and I wish this was closer to me. Also, they are open 24/7! One thing to note is that they do not accept credit cards. I went there ,,,yesterday to purchase some oysters and pull at least 10 jars that were out of date. I even came upon a rancid pack of filet of sole. It was very disappointing. I'm leaving this review because I am hoping someone with WinCo Foods reads it. I have been shopping at WinCo since moving to LA back in 2015. Actually, I did shop at the one in Moreno Valley a few time when I lived out that way. Back when I first began shopping there, the store was nothing like it is now. I don't think it is WinCo's fault that the atmosphere has changed. When all the other grocery stores began to raise their prices, there was only one place to go. WinCo. Since then, the store is often over run with just too many shoppers. Not a bad thing for WinCo but it can be quite frustrating for WinCo shoppers. There really needs to be more WinCo locations in the LA area. Especially, in the South Bay. I drive from LA just to shop at the WinCo in Lakewood. WinCo management... You sell Skinny Pop popcorn. Just not the flavor that I prefer. I think, not the flavor anyone likes, as it appears that no one buys it. Even at Costco. I enjoy the Skinny Pop Popcorn Cheddar Jalapeno. We drove about 15-20 min to shop here as we like the deals and options available to us as shoppers. Really love the sections to package your own spices, pasta, candy, nut butters, dog and cat food and cooking oils that just blew me away. Big produce section too which was especially nice. Worth the drive in my opinion. Only thing we were not aware of was that they only take cash, debit or EBT. Would have loved a sign somewhere at the entrance because we did not find out until we were getting checked out and at that, it was a small sign behind the cashier. Luckily I could use my debit. People and customer service there is great. I really like the bulk coffee dispensers and they have my favorite beer and liquors. Prices are the lowest in California. It was worth the few extra miles it took to shop there. I went into the room where they sell the hard liquor and an old man on one of their electric shopping carts knocked over a pallet of Jose Cuervo 1.75 liter bottles and broke them. The staff was very kind and didn't make him pay. The place smelled like a bar after Cinco de mayo. They don't except credit cards because the credit card companies charge them 1 to 2% on the purchase. Most people don't know the the grocery business has one of the lowest profit margins of any business between 1-1/2% to 5%. read more

Abysmal customer service and disrespectful tone and attitude from a young man / boy on 9/3/2024. I was waiting behind multiple people in what apparently was the 15 items or less line, but the signs were confusing & in tiny print, so I didn't know. The signs were printed on a small paper in black and white. It's no wonder multiple people with more than 15 items kept walking in the line. The person in front of me had a full cart, so I waited behind the person as they were being helped and checked. I thought nothing about this being an express lane since multiple others were in the lines with full carts. When it was my turn I was confronted by a young man with a nasty attitude telling me I can't be checked in the line, even though multiple others were in line behind and in front of me with a full cart and 15+ items. He did everything in his power to escalate the situation. I would gladly move over if others with full carts and 15+ items weren't being helped, and if the person had a better attitude. If I wasn't singled out, and the rest of the people asked, it wouldn't be much of an issue. It's an issue when you treat one customer one way, and allow the rest to get through, behind and in front of me. I told him that I waited awhile and that the person ahead has a full cart but wasn't asked to move. I was being singled out to move, while others with 15+ items were being scanned and helped. It is confusing when the employees are okay with some people with a lot of items but not others. Why am I being treated any different than other customers and being singled out? After mentioning that I waited awhile and that others have more items and are being helped the person told me that he will make me move all my items if they were put down on the conveyor. So you are threatening me to move my items, while the person waiting for their full cart to be scanned isn't told that they have to take their items off the conveyor belt. Again, it's outrageous that I am the only one being singled out, when the person ahead had a full cart of items on the conveyor belt waiting to be scanned. After I mentioned I would like to stay as I waited awhile, I asked the cashier if this was fine to stay and she said yes. Why again would I be treated different than a customer right in front being checked with a full cart? At this point the boy called the manager over who said the same thing to only me. I pointed out multiple people in line who weren't asked to move but had 15+ items. They didn't make any effort to have others move with 15+ items, only me. I moved over to the other line and again waited and while I was waiting noticed multiple people being checked in the same line with 15+ items. After I was finished, the manager mentioned that the employees could do a better job of ensuring there is less confusion with the check out lines & that others with a lot of items were helped but they should have the process worked out better. I won't be returning or giving my business to Winco again, as the condescending behavior from the boy / young man was unacceptable and disrespectful.
