I would like to clarify an error on my last review. I had written that their meat was the same as other competitors and cheaper. I have since found out that the meat at Foodmaxx is a meat grade lower than the other stores. Maybe thats why it is cheaper. read more

Who is managing this store? I often come into this store in the evening after work. Is it a new way of managing the store by allowing the customers to wait in a very long line before a second checkout line is opened??? Here's a suggestion: whomever is making decisions to only have 1 checkout line open, should come be a customer for a day. Just a thought.....I get it, You really don't give a damn about us customers. Been shopping here since I moved here in 2017. Always was a good fair price for their bakery goods, especially the French Baguette! They stopped making Sourdough baguette, which is far superior in taste and healthier as a whole. Strike One! The baguette used to be really thin but it was still a good price at $1.29 a loaf and $2.50 for a Two pack, then they raised their prices to $1.99 a loaf and $2.99 for the 2 pack. Strike Two!! Next they changed to a Rustic baguette which was a little bigger and better tasting than the original one but they raised the price to $2.49 a loaf, $3.98 for the 2 pack which was not bad, but still no Sourdough! And for the last straw that broke the Camel's back They then raised the 2 pack to $4.98? That's the same thing as buying 2 single loafs and where's the value for buying 2 loafs? There is none!! Seems like the only way to get a response from Food Max corporate office is to Yelp them, apparently they pay more attention to that then they do a phone call and an email. So #1 complaint, which I have brought to the attention of management multiple times, Twice I have gotten "OK, thanks sir I will speak with her" Only to show up to shop the next day and find her car still there. This is a specific employee who starts at 0600 am and seems to think she is entitled to park in the handicap spot closest to the store every day she works, and she is not handicap nor does she display a placard or a handicap plate. (It's The black lady that works self checkout most of the time, say no more!) Thus leaving one less spot for other handicap people. I bring this up ONLY because my wife is handicapped and has had to park one car over in the non-handicap spot and struggle to get out of her car, while the employee seems fine with reserving that spot for herself. Just her personality alone when running across her in the store is very arrogant and stand-offish. Her customer serviced skills are 0. However since I am on the subject. How about some more damn checkers one 30 pack of beer and I have to wait 20 min behind everyone doing there monthly shopping!! One of these days technology will allow you buy beer thru the self checkout, which you can do in other states! FYI! But its California go figure... FoodMaxx has the cheapest, biggest watermelons this season (less than $8!). Besides the only store I can find in town with seeded watermelons, I love the customer service at FoodMaxx. The staff is happy to help and on my return trip for more melons, one of the managers helped me, because I panicked when I only saw seedless melons (the seeded melons were hiding from me behind a pole). The cashier staff is also personable and helpful. I would not gone to FoodMaxx (it's not super close to us) had I able to find seeded watermelons elsewhere but now, I know where to go AND where I'll get friendly service if needed. read more

Came Herr for firm tofu. Easy find in vegie area. Found entire spot BUT most were expired, two weeks over and some had yellowish residue like homeless pee. Many can get sick because don't look at expiration dates. Come on FakeMaxx u know better read more

Reasonable Prices on Groceries! Semi-helpful staff and reasonably clean store! Decent produce, great sales on meats, great selection of spices. Great deals overall! We rarely go to Safeway anymore and purchase groceries here. Best time to shop is early in the morning! And never on payday weekends! We shop there all the time! read more

For the last 3 years I have tried on and off again to fill my gallon jugs of water. With foodmax having 6 water fillers you would think at least 1 of them would be working. Nope everytime I go in none of them work or 1-2 work but only fill a gallon before stoping. I have gone in the mornings the afternoon even at night. Random days of the week and they still never work. Today was the last straw for me. We needed 12 five gallons filled and to do weekly shopping. The machines weren't working and the workers were clueless as to to why or how to fix it. Needless to say I left and went food shopping elsewhere. I will never be going back to this foodmax again. read more

It has what we need most of the time and for cheap prices. Unfortunately the area where I live there's only WalMart and FoodMaxx as grocery store options so when we want something like say jumbo prawns, or a good cut of steak we're pretty much S.O.L. For the more basic options we'll always choose FoodMaxx over WalMart to shop. Lines here on weekends are long and sometimes there's only one line open which is awful. Occasionally we're assisted quickly and don't have much to complain about, but usually it's just kind of a mess. I'm sure we'll continue to come in here, but it's definitely not our ideal grocery store.. read more

I've been coming here for a few months, But I absolutely dread having to deal with or be around a cashier that ends up almost always being the guy that ends up checking me... older white guy mid 40s maybe early 50s literally every single customer he talks to he makes it a point tell everybody that COVID-19 is fake, that it's a big hoax and I'm just seriously tired of this every single time I'm in there and I have to deal with that guy. I came in here today for the first time with a friend to buy some bread to feed the ducks and geese at Gibson Ranch (yes, I know bird food is better for them). The manager, Rich Miller, was stocking the bread aisle at that time, and he was incredibly kind to us. I've never shopped here before, but I am going to come here the next time I go grocery shopping because of his excellent customer service. read more

I purchased my groceries 1/14/2018. I paid $282 and asked for $20 cash back. I proceeded to put groceries in my car and drive home. I then realized I didn't get my $20. I drove back and spoke to the cashier who rung up my items. Her name was Michelle. She was so honest and in front of her manager said "you are so right, I don't think I gave you your $20. literally watched a customer eat an apricot in line then threw the pit back in the bin. the lines were SO LOOONG I couldn't tell a clerk in time.. she had left before I could point out the disgusting customer that did it. I told cashier mark what I witnessed and the exact fruit bin the trash was thrown in. he seemed uninterested but said he'd call someone. I came back 2 hrs later because I forgot something out of my recipe and decided to see if the eaten fruit was possibly STILLL there and IT WAS!! Paul was the cashier I told at about 8:50 and when i got back him and the garbage was STILL THERE! no one at all between 9pm and 11pm felt it was important to take the garbage out of the apricot this gross customer spit in the bin! Not the cleanest store, not the freshest meat and produce but the prices are pretty reasonable. If im in the area and need a few things i stop in but if i plan on "big" shopping i drive 2 miles up the road for better prices. Yes, I'm very happy with Food-Maxx on Watt Avenue in North Highlands! Generally great people working there with a positive spirit! Reasonable prices. But, I have one Huge Upset-ness, and, that is their coffee prices have Blown Through The Roof!! Market Essentials coffee has been dropped from 30.5 ounces down to 24.2 ounces, one-fifth Less, and it costs More!!!! Next stop: (since Walmart is out of the question), the giant worker-owned store a few blocks down Antelope Road to check on their always-low prices!!!! read more

Great store. Probable wouldn't normally shop here but we recently moved to the area and got a couple of coupons from them in the mail for free items so we decided to try. The parking lot was big, not crowded. The store was well lit and had an easy lay out. All the employees were friendly and helpful and the other customers were just fine. Will not absolutely not help disabled people bag their groceries have asked several times cashiers just look at you they see you struggling you ask for help they turn their head and act like you didn't say anything... since taking over from food source..i have asked no less than 30 employees,clerks and managers to please stock rolling rock beer in bottles..totally ignored . i spend 5 to 7 hundred a month there and was a every few day customer. they refuse to sell it, i now refuse to shop there. winco sells it, thats who gets our business from now on. dont care about your customers , your customers leave.bye. i will shop there when it changes owners again..and by your service , it wont be long. read more
