Just got blocked from going in the store 17 minutes before they close.. which by the way is listed on the wall as 10pm but online says midnite. The employees all want to be walking out by 10pm. I regularly go to this FM because it's very close to home. They have a huge and amazing produce section, y'all are missing out if you don't know this! The cashiers are generally really friendly and nice. Sometimes the lines are unusually long and other times they're unusually short. It doesn't follow the regular busy / less busy times like other big stores so it's just a gamble when you get to the front. Try not to forget a produce or dairy item, because you gotta run across the entire store once you're at the cashier. Haters gonna hate, I go here all the time and this FM is great! read more

TL;DR: Available for you when you're in desperate need of something late at night or early in the morning when nothing is open. Beware of where you park. Huge store, lots of selections, but maybe not the healthiest? They do have unsweetened kefir which is awesome. I haven't bought much produce here, so I can't comment on their freshness. But overall they do have OK deals and some overpriced items, so its a hit or miss. They did have reduced hours due to COVID, and they have slowly reopened longer hours as time has progressed, but its still not back to 24hours yet. Unfortunately they have nice security guards but they don't do their job efficiently. Sketch parking lot, where my car got dented by someone who I think was living in their car at the time. When I asked the manager for their security footage, he refused. When I questioned the 3 security guards at the door if they saw anything, they politely said "I'm so sorry that happened but we just got back from break." How convenient. I honestly shop here for the great prices (which are only great when it comes to the fruit) because everything else here is expired!! Half way through shopping I realized most of my cart had expired items and started checking the dates to put items back. Unfortunately when putting items back and trying to replace them with something not expired, this wasn't possible as literally EVERYTHING here is expired.. I brought home "fresh mozzarella cheese" which was probably the only thing I didn't check the expiration on & when using it this morning I realized it expired 5/31, I purchased it on 6/11.. I get the prices are low but there's no way you guys should be expecting people to purchase almost 2 week expired food. Taking my shopping needs to Safeway from now on or maybe any other local grocery store but definitely keeping a distance from here. Waste of time and money. read more

The fruit and veggie selection is great! My family frequents here because of their produce section. One time my dad had trouble finding something because he didn't know what it was called in English and although he told me what is was in Spanish I still had no clue what he was talking about. Luckily, despite the manager not knowing that much Spanish he was able to find it for my dad. I forgot his name not sure if it was Conrad or Conner but he was white and had big blue eyes. read more

FoodMaxx isn't a force to be reckoned with. ---except for their ridiculous prices on certain products being sold at their store. It's not a bad store, but it's also not all that special (good) either. This store is to be considered in the middle. I have been going to this store for years, and nothing really changed except for their logo and store name. Although, this grocery store is extremely convenient for those who are near East Oakland and for the residents in San Leandro. If you're too lazy to waste cash on expensive artisan items at Safeway, then head down over to FoodMaxx. There's at least a little bit of everything for everyone. ... But don't expect an artisan item like Hummus being sold at FoodMaxx. It's not there. FoodMaxx tends to have a sale on their produce, chips, and soft beverage drinks like the AriZona brand. Make sure to keep an eye out for those whenever you enter the store. They also want to please the Latino community by offering various pastries, baked bread, drinks, and the like. Other than that, the lines are pretty long when it's the afternoon on a weekday. There are times where you are being passively forced to go to a different line if a certain check out aisle closes. But oh well. You gotta deal with it once that happens. Overall, it's a decent convenient grocery store. P.S: Sunnyside Farms is the "brand" being sold at FoodMaxx and nowhere else, folks. read more

I'm not one who wants to or will wait in any long line especially since my surgery so, I opted for delivery service. Trust and believe, I never have to go to the grocery store ever again. The delivery girl was on time. I ordered online from my job in Hayward and 15 mins after I got home in San Leandro, she arrived. Only two items were missing but I did get a refund. I will never shop at food max in San Leandro. First reason: I dropped my keys and within 5 minutes I realized what I did but someone grabbed my keys and they were gone... I had to have my car towed home. Second reason: I bought 2 bottles of wine and when I opened the bottle and poured a glass and the odor hit me first cause it was really bad. The color of the wine was a dark yellow/ orange color.. it was spoiled badly. I took the bottles back to the store and they would not refund my money... and they were rude!!! I left the bottles there and left. The lines in this store are ridiculous too. The cost savings is lost when you can't trust the food and liquor could be spoiled!!! read more

I really love this Food Maxx. I feel like other Food Maxx's that I've been too, everything is mushy, old, moldy, expired or about to expire. When I first walked in it didn't seem or look like that at ALL. Everything seem pretty fresh, really clean, stocked nicely and organized. The set up is a little....different, but it works. My primary purpose for coming here is to buy half-and-half for my coffee and some vegetables. All their cashiers need lesson in friendliness and customer service. Every once in a while you'll catch a nice one and you're caught totally off guard because you expect all of them to be an ass. First of all this grocery store is NOT cheap. You pay as much as you would at Safeway but you have less selection and you have to bag your own groceries. I live around the corner and my wife refuses to shop there. They always have trash blowing around the entrance and out of ten check stands, only two are open at any time. I tell everyone I know that I can shop for 3 adult women on $50 a week. Many ask me how this miracle is achieved, and I inform them, quite often in hushed tones, that my secret is FoodMaxx. Consequently, I have converted many a friend to shopping at FoodMaxx. It's one of my staple stores, and where I do my weekly grocery shopping. All of the tags are color coded (sales are blue, SUPER sales are red), and the produce is fresh, the meat sold in bulk, and everything is cheap, cheap, cheap - almost a dollar cheaper than you'd find at Safeway or Albertson's/Lucky's. (e.g. Oroweat bread - $4.99 at Safeway, $3.96 at FoodMaxx) It looks like a warehouse store, and you'll have to bag your own stuff, but what's that in exchange for saving $20 a week on groceries? Extra tip: tell the kiddies to be on the lookout for the birds. I have no idea how they have finches in the store, but they're cheeping every time I go there. read more
